Abstract:
Abstract A new species of freshwater crab of the genus Isolapotamon Bott, 1968 (Potamidae) is described from western Sabah in Malaysian Borneo. Isolapotamon seowi new species, is the sixth species of Isolapotamon known from Sabah, and differs from its closest congener, I. buntyae Ng, Low & Clark, 2022, from eastern Borneo, in possessing a relatively lower carapace, a more rugose dorsal carapace surface, the postorbital cristae being sharper and subparallel with the frontal margin, relatively shorter fourth ambulatory legs, and the terminal segment of the male first gonopod is gently curved with the subdistal process slightly longer than the distal projection and angled at 90° to the longitudinal axis.

Abstract:
Of the seven species of potamid freshwater crabs of the genus Isolapotamon Bott, 1968, known from Sarawak, the type localities of two species, I. borneense Ng & Tan, 1998, and I. grusophallus Ng & Yang, 1986, are not known with accuracy. Through extensive collections in Sarawak, the provenances of these localities are now determined. Isolapotamon borneense is found in the upper parts of the Baram River in northern Sarawak; while I. grusophallus occurs in Gunung Penrissen and adjacent areas in central Sarawak. The taxonomy of these two species is also discussed.

Abstract:
Seven species of freshwater crabs from three families are recorded from and around the Danum Valley Conservation Area in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo: Thelphusula capillodigitus sp. n., Thelphusula dicerophilus Ng & Stuebing, 1990, Arachnothelphusa terrapes Ng, 1991, Terrathelphusa secula Ng & Tan, 2015, Parathelphusa valida Ng & Goh, 1987 (new record) (Gecarcinucidae); Isolapotamon ingeri Ng & Tan, 1998 (Potamidae); and Geosesarma danumense Ng, 2002 (Sesarmidae). The new species of Thelphusula Bott, 1979, can be distinguished from all congeners by a unique combination of morphological features, most notably the presence of dense patches of short setae on the fingers of the adult male chelipeds, as well as the structure of the male first gonopod. Arachnothelphusa terrapes is confirmed to be a phytotelm species. A key to all species in the conservation area is provided.

Abstract:
Freshwater crabs are among the most threatened species, primarily due to their high levels of endemicity, poor dispersal ability, low fecundity and the relatively fragmented nature of freshwater ecosystems. Consequently, regional diversity of freshwater crabs can serve as surrogates for assessing the quality of aquatic habitats in the upper reaches of Baleh River in Sarawak. The six days of sampling during a scientific expedition in the area resulted in the collection of five species of freshwater crabs, including two notable discoveries. The freshwater crabs belong to the families Gecarcinucidae (Arachnothelphusa sp., Bakousa kenepai) and Potamidae (Ibanum aethes, Isolapotamon nimboni, one new genus). The formal description of the new genus and two new species will be made later in appropriate taxonomic journals. The new crab species tends to a specialist in habitat use, being found only from an unusual habitat - a sandy spring within undisturbed forests, near the Elite Honour Camp. These findings indicate that the undisturbed forest patches near the timber camp are important to support population of crabs. Keywords: Decapod crustacean, Gecarcinucidae, Potamidae, semi-terrestrial
