Abstract:

Abstract:
With the rapid development of microprocessor and semiconductor technology, industry continues to update the requirements for power supplies. For telecommunication and computing system applications, power supplies require increasing current level while the supply voltage keeps decreasing. For example, the Intel's CPU core voltage decreased from 2 volt in 1999 to 1 volt in 2005 while the supply current increased from 20A in 1999 to up to 100A in 2005. As a result, low-voltage high-current high efficiency dc-dc converters with high power-density are demanded for state-of-the-art applications and

Abstract:
The bi-directional dc/dc converter is a very popular and effective tool for alternative energy applications. One way it can be utilized is to charge and discharge batteries used in residential solar energy systems. In the day, excess power from the PV panels is used to charge the batteries. During the night, the charged batteries will power the dc bus for loads in the house such as home appliances. The dual active bridge (DAB) converter is very useful because of its high power capability and efficiency. Its symmetry is effective in transferring power in both directions. However, the DAB

This diploma thesis deals with design and comparison of selected DC/DC converters, where the better of them is practically realized. The first part of the diploma thesis is focused on the general analysis of DC/DC power converters. The following part is theoretical analysis focused on the first selected topology – step-up converter. The second analysed topology is forward converter with full bridge on the primary side. The theoretical analysis also includes a description of synchronous rectifier, the differences between hard and soft switching, and the types of secondary rectifiers. Another pa

Among the many renewable energy sources, solar power is becoming one of the quickest to be adopted due to continuous technological progress and reductions in cost. Today's typical photovoltaic modules that are connected together in series and parallel to form strings and sub-arrays. Various distributed photovoltaic architectures are introduced in this thesis and DC-DC converters with maximum power point tracking are also introduced. Partial power processing is a technique to allow only a fraction of the power to be processed by the DC-DC converter, thereby reducing losses and improving efficie

Abstract:
In recent years the growth of renewable energy has encouraged the development of HVDC grids. One challenge of building HVDC grids is the power converter response to DC side faults. The full-bridge Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) is a desired power converter topology which is used in HVDC grids due to its scalability, modularity and capability of blocking DC side faults. Post fault operation of the full-bridge MMC requires the control of power flow, the energy of each sub-module capacitor and the elimination of circulating harmonic current to reduce power loss while DC line-to-ground or DC l
