Tracing the sociocultural influence of any technology is fraught with problems. First, many of the influences cited are likely to be too large and diffuse to be tested under experimental conditions in the laboratory. Second, the technology is likely to be, at most, an accessory to many other influencing factors rather than a singular cause. Third, insofar as the technology can be isolated as a factor of influence, the direction of the influence is often two way. The technology may cause changes in sociocultural states, but existing sociocultural states are also likely to result in the technolo

Eight serotypes were identified in all age groups, while all other serotypes were found exclusively in one age group or in patients over 4 years of age. Serotype 3 w

The pounding of retaining walls forms a potential risk of degrading the performance of seismically base-isolated buildings subjected to strong, especially near-fault, earthquake ground motions. Incremental dynamic analysis is employed to generate the so-called gap graph, in which two characteristic gap sizes of a base-isolated building are related with the isolation period of the building and the strengthof the superstructure. Thegapgraph canbe usedto evaluate the required gap size for a base-isolated building to have certain collapse performance. By means of gap graphs, the interdependent rel

During biomass storage, some gases can be produced and reach dangerous levels to human health. Among them, carbon monoxide is especially worrying, due to its potentially lethal effects and its contribution to the greenhouse effect. High levels of this gas could be reached, depending on many factors, such as unsuitable ventilation in storage areas or raw material characteristics. The aim of this research study was to assess the levels of CO produced during pellet storage at a laboratory scale, depending on the ventilation conditions (changing the amount of sample and frequency), the pellet char

The proliferation and neovascularization inducing properties of adipose tissue-derived stem cells may contribute to solve this problem. Therefore, the enrichment of fat grafts with stem cells is studied intensively. However, it is difficult to compare these studies because many factors—often not precisely described—are influencing the results.
