In the conditions of the international isolation of the Russian Government, at the initiative of the Soviet diplomacy in December 1922, a „disarmament conference” was held in Moscow, in which the states bordering Russia participated. Although it was invited, Romania did not respond to the invitation, because the Soviets refused to recognize the border on the Dniester. The tribune of the Moscow conference was used by Russian diplomacy for propaganda purposes. At the conference, the Romanian Government aimed to explore, through its ally Poland, the possibility of normalizing relations with the R

The political and economic changes in Russia in the last five years have been enormous, however, Russian psychiatry remains isolated from the mainstream. This isolation started in the aftermath of allegations in the seventies about the misuse of psychiatry, and has been exacerbated by recent economic uncertainty. I was therefore interested to receive an invitation to stay with a Russian psychiatrist for a week in September 1994, to investigate the possibilities of research collaboration between the Institute of Clinical Psychiatry in Moscow and the Department of Psychiatry in Southampton.

Abstract The principle of monocentrism in building a picture of the social world is opposed to the principle of polycentrism. Certain trends substantiating the principle of monocentrism, on the one hand, and the principle of polycentrism, on the other, are considered. The justification of monocentrism is universalism—of man, human consciousness, human history. In anthropology, polycentrism is based on the idea of the sociocultural conditioning of man, while in the philosophy of history, it is based on the concept of history as the development of individual isolated cultures or civilizations.
