EinleitungDie antiretrovirale Therapie (ART) hat die Lebenserwartung von Menschen mit HIV deutlich erhöht. AIDS ist eine weitgehend vermeidbare Komplikation einer HIV-Infektion geworden und tritt vor allem noch bei zu später Diagnose oder zu spätem Therapiebeginn auf. Erkrankungen, die mit dem beschleunigten Alterungsprozess durch die HIV-Infektion oder mit den Langzeitnebenwirkungen von Medikamenten assoziiert sind, stellen neue Herausforderungen für die Therapie dar.

Die Prävalenz von Tumorerkrankungen liegt in der nationalen Kohorte des BMBF-geförderten Kompetenznetzes HIV/ AIDS bei 8,9%. Das Kaposi-Sarkom ist mit 349 Fällen der am häufigsten dokumentierte Tumor. HHV-8 assoziierte Tumore (z. B. das Kaposi-Sarkom) werden durch molekulare Mimikry vermittelt. Although the number of infectious agents capable of being transmitted through blood and blood products is vast, only a few cause problems in recipients of a magnitude which warrants the need for screening tests.
