Abstract:
Enogastronomia. Identidade étnicaABSTRACTIn the years of the Great Immigration (1875-1914), many Italians opened, in the most important cities of Brazil, commercial activities in the food segment. As the journalist Francesco Bianco wrote during his trip to the South-American country, “the Italians manage to impose their culinary, taking over the domain of people’s taste”. The objective of the present article is to analyze the distinctive features of the ethnic business of exchanged food products, which favored a phenomenon named “induced business” and allowed many Italians to open their own dispatch houses in the main urban centers in the country. In particular, it is emphasized the case of São Paulo, where the large amount of immigrants provide the advent of numerous ethnic enterprises. Through a qualitative analysis of varied documents such as family correspondence, ethnic press and, especially, rare almanacs related to the numerous groups of Italians living in Brazil, this article shows the theme of food as one of the main elements in the definition of ethnic identities and, consequently, as a new possibility for commercial enterprises in the cities of immigration. Keywords: Italian immigration. Ethnic business. Wine and gastronomy. Ethnic Identity.

Abstract:
Censorship and Book Circulation in Eighteenth-Century Italy During the eighteenth century some Italian governments changed the regulations concerning censorship, and asserted the state's role in the control of the production and circulation of books. Paradoxically, the existence of different regulations for censorship in Italy revealed itself to be an instrument of corrosion of the control mechanisms by making the access to forbidden books less difficult than in countries in which there was a centralized control system. In the years comprised between the 1760s and the 1780s there had indeed been transformations similar to those of other European countries, pointing towards that «revolution in readership » which had increased the occasions for having access to books; multipling the number of readers, discovering a new public, which was to have great importance especially in the nineteenth century: women readers, which publishers addressed with fashion journals and almanacs. In some Italian cities the opportunities to read had increased in the eighteenth century: in public libraries, in coffee houses, in literary societies, in the cabinets de lecture books and newspapers could be browsed and read without having to buy them. The urban guidebooks and the récits de voyage of foreign travellers (as the Spanish Jesuit Juan Andrés, and as Jerôme de de Lalande, Gotthold Ephraim Lessing and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe) are important sources that provide informations about cultural transformations as the opening of libraries, book collections both privat and public, for the selected public and the opening of new reading occasions for a wider public.

DELBRUGGE, LAURA. "FROM LUNAR CHARTS TO LI: CONSIDERATIONS OF MARKETABILITY AND CONCEPTS OF AUTHORSHIP IN THE EVOLUTION OF BERNAT DE GRANOLLACHS’ LUNARI." Catalan Review 22, no. 1 (January 1, 2008): 219–26. http://dx.doi.org/10.3828/catr.22.13.

Abstract:
In 1492 the first edition of the bestselling almanac, the Reportorio de los tiempos, was published by Pablo Hurus in Zaragoza. Written by the converso Andrés de Li, the Reportorio incorporated in toto the Lunari, a Catalan text by Bernat de Granollachs, and published in 1485 in Barcelona. The Lunari contained month by month lunar charts of the years 1485 to 1550. These two works were enormously popular and versions of them appeared in over ninety editions in French, Catalan, Castilian, Latin, and Italian. It was probably the extreme popularity of Granollachs’ text that led to its expansion by Li and the subsequent success of the Reportorio. In the early days of printing, the success of each volume, and indeed the survival of the press, was determined for the most part by the type of work selected for production. This essay explores the evolution of the Lunari to the Reportorio de los tiempos, particularly in terms of text selection, marketability, and medieval traditions of textual incorporation.

Abstract: Diego de Torres Villarroel published in 1724 an almanac entitled Melodrama astrológica: teatro temporal y político. The chapbook, besides helping him to gain fame by having supposedly predicted the death of King Louis I, is one of his first attempts at incorporating literary content into astrological predictions. This article aims to demonstrate that, contrary to those critics who see in the “literary model” an original and fortuitous discovery, Torres is inspired by certain formulas that some other contemporary authors were successfully practicing in Europe, specifically in the Italian States.

Abstract:
The author of this article considers some aspects of the functioning of terms denoting various mass media, historical aspects of their origin and semantic transformation in the Russian language, languages-sources of borrowing. The history of the terms gazeta, zhurnal, kuranty, vedomosti, radio, kinozhurnal and televidenie, internet is considered in detail. The first Russian periodical was “Vesti-Kuranty” or “Vestovye Pisma”, as it is conventionally referred to in research, a handwritten newspaper published since 1600 (regularly — since 1621). Since the beginning of the 18th century, printed “Vedomosti about Military and Other Matters Worthy of Knowledge and Memory” have been published. Soon the word gazeta was borrowed from the Italian language, which was first found in the papers of Peter I for 1707, but its spread in the Russian language was probably influenced by Prince Boris Ivanovich Kurakin, who spoke Italian well and used this term in his papers. The word gazeta was popular in many European languages, it was regularly included in the gemeronyms. The word zhurnal was borrowed from the French language to refer to time-based book publications. In the Russian language, the lexemes almanac, vedomosti, bulletin, tabloid are also used to refer to periodicals, scientific periodicals and non-periodical publications including words with a gemeronymic meaning: uchyonie zapiski, trudy, chteniia, materialy, kommentarii, akty, memuary, etc. Radio and television also joined the mass media system, and at the end of the 20th century, the Internet. The existence of the terms SMI and media in modern usage is noted, the latter’s frequency of usage is actively increasing. There is a derivational explosion of almost limitless new formations from this term. The term SMI also continues to exist in the Russian language, fitting into the composition of abbreviations and having a transparent semantic content with the full use of the abbreviation.

Abstract:
On the 22nd October 2017 the Swiss numismatic firm Nomos offered at auction a silver didrachm minted by the Campanian city of Nola. Unbeknownst to the auction house this coin was once in the collection of Alfred Bourguignon. Although little is known about this 19th century collector, he is recorded by the Almanach de Gotha as being the deputy of the Netherlands Consulate in Naples. He was also a partner in the prominent 19th century Neapolitan bank, Banca Meuricoffre, founded by Achilles Meuricoffre and continued by his two sons Oscar and Tell; he was also their distant cousin. The Meuricoffre (German Moerikhofer) were wealthy Swiss bankers who immigrated to Naples in 1760 to facilitate trade with the Kingdom for the fine silk of Calabria. To repay large financial debts Alfred Bourguignon had accrued from casino and horse gambling, he repeatedly embezzled the bank bringing it to bankruptcy. Although Alfred Bourguignon died in September 1903, Banca Meuricoffre continued trading until 1905 by which time it was insolvent and went into liquidation. The financial damage brought to the Meuricoffre family was significant, having to sell warehouses, agricultural land, the apartment of Palazzo Caprioli, and the Casa Grande of Capodimonte, and an estate in Ischia. The financial activities of the bank were subsequently transferred to Credito Italiano, which opened in Naples in July 1905.

Abstract:
С. Abstract:
This article proposes to analyse from a transnational approach a specific modality of literary almanac appeared in Italia e Spagna during the Early Modern Age: the serio-faceto. The main aim is to demonstrate the common elements between two traditions which have been analysed separately but have never been the subject of such a comparative study. To this end, a study will be carried out to highlight the particularities of the burlesque discourses that seek to discredit astrology, especially in its judiciary aspect. It will then be demonstrated how part of this critique is taken up by certain authors, who succeed in developing an almanac that combines usefulness and amusement.

Abstract:
