Abstract:
This research paper explores the top ten CSR-contributing companies in India and their contributions toward environmental sustainability. The study analyzes the CSR spending patterns of these companies and the percentage of their CSR funds directed toward environmental sustainability. The results indicate a significant variation in CSR spending and contribution towards environmental sustainability among the top ten companies. Companies like Wipro Ltd, ITC Ltd, and Infosys Ltd have directed a considerable percentage of their CSR funds toward environmental sustainability. On the other hand, companies like Tata Consultancy Services Ltd, Tata Sons Private Ltd, and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd did not contribute to environmental sustainability, despite significant CSR spending. The findings suggest that there is a need for companies to prioritize environmental sustainability in their CSR activities, given the current environmental challenges faced by the country. The study recommends that companies should adopt sustainable practices and invests more in environmentally sustainable CSR initiatives to achieve a balance between economic development and environmental conservation.

Abstract:
Mikrokontrollerille kirjoitettiin yksinkertainen arduino-koodi, jolla saatiin tehtyä testianimaatio LED-valojen testausta varten. Järjestelmän testaaminen aloitettiin visuaalisesti tarkastelemalla LED-valoja, jonka perusteella pystyttiin huomaamaan ilmeisimmät ongelmat. Lisäksi suoritettujen mittausten avulla pystyttiin rajaamaan ongelmien aiheuttajia ja varmentamaan väylän toiminta ja PWM-aaltomuodot. Korjaamalla virheet RTL-koodista ja lisäämällä logiikkatasonmuunnin, järjestelmä saatiin toimimaan ongelmitta
In this project, I2C bus controlled LED controller was implemented. The starting point was an assignment made on Digital Technology 2 course which was implemented on FPGA circuit for this project. The configuration of FPGA circuits was studied first in order to get RTL code to work on FPGA board. The RTL code was then modified and compiled for the FPGA. The small-scale test environment consisting of FPGA and MCU boards as well as logic level converter was made for testing the system. Simple Arduino code was written for MCU to get test animation for the LEDs. The testing of the system began by examining the LEDs visually. From this the most obvious problems were able to be noticed. In addition, causes of problems could be limited on the basis of made measurements. PWM-waveform and operation of the I2C bus were also verified by the measurements. The system was made to work without problems by correcting errors in RTL-code and adding logic level converter

Abstract:
A portable and low cost fluorescence set-up to quantify the concentrations of Ochratoxin A(OTA) in real samples was developed. The detection through the device consist of anultraviolet light at 365 nm and an photo detector or a CMOS sensor controlled by anexecutable interface designed in LabVIEW or MATLAB. It has been reported that OTA is naturally fluorescent, so it allows the user to get a UV LED to excite the sample, get a value involtage when a photodetector is employed or a photograph of the OTA under excitationconditions, and process that image in order to predict the concentrations of the sample. Tocapture and process the image, in an automatically manner, the system was completely basedon the Red, Green and Blue (RGB) components. The linearity for OTA obtained in the rangeof concentrations corresponds to 2-40 µg/L. Immunoaffinity columns (IAC) and molecularimprinted polymer columns (MIP) were used with cocoa, beer and wine samples. Theobtained results were cross-validated using chromatographic method such as HPLC and theFluoroskan equipment. The developed setup is easy to use, economical and portable. Besides, the use of new tendencies was included such as employ the smartphone to detect OTA and thecreation of an APP. Fluorescence image data from the smartphone camera are analyzed by apersonal computer and presented in RGB components, where the image is sent to thecomputer by WIFI and the smartphone is used as a power source too. Finally, an APP forandroid system was created to capture the image and provides the RGB values. At the end, theuse of image processing to quantify the OTA in real samples without incorporated IAC or MIPcolumns to extract the mycotoxin from a complex solution, employing colorimetric techniquesand color analysis

Abstract:
Purpose: Today there is big room for improvements in the work with logistics and scheduling on construction sites. Increased complexity has led to increased demands on planning. However, studies have shown that construction is one of the least digitalised industries today, in spite of all tools available. The purpose of the study is to study the advantages of using BIM in the work with logistics and scheduling compared to the traditional methods available, and in that way see how this increase efficiency. Method: The research methods that was chosen to answer our issue are case studies and literature studies. Those methods are the best suited for these types of studies that are going to be done. Collection of data has been made through qualitative interviews with employees at Gärahovs Bygg AB. Findings: The study has shown that the interviewees believe that communication between different participants in the project can be improved using the BIM-based method. They also believe that it will be easier to see that everything is included in the planning phase. The benefit of using BIM: • The BIM method can provide a visual advantage in the communication between contractors and subcontractors. • The BIM method can give a clearer picture of how the work will proceed through visual simulations. • The BIM method can make it easier to see if all the planned activities are included in the planning phase. • The BIM method can make it easier to make reconciliations against the schedule during the project. Limitations: The study is limited to only make a production schedule over one typeapartment in a project, and to only make comparisons with this. The study has only been made together with one company. For a more reliable result, more companies would have to be included in the study. A simulation of a larger model could have given an even clearer picture of what advantages and disadvantages that comes with the BIM-based method.

Abstract:
The introduction of smart grid technology has changed the way traditional power grid network function. It made the grid structure more dynamic by enhancing electrical usage management capability. Also, it has increased the scope to enhance communication infrastructure in a smart grid structure. The current smart grid solution is based on IEC 61850 architecture where the exchange of information between the electrical utilities is over the fast Ethernet LAN connection. This communication mechanism is fast, efficient but lacks scalability, flexibility and less susceptible to failure. Also, earlier technical paper from IEC 61850 standard was for communication within a substation. Wide Area Monitoring Protection and Control implementation which utilizes coherent real time synchrophasor information would play a vital role in realizing the utility physical status. IEC 61850-90-5, a new technical report from International Electrotechnical Commission provides the mechanism to transmit and receive the synchrophasor information using the advance IP protocol over a wireless communication infrastructure for WAMPAC application. IEC 61850-90-5 provide a way to exchange routable synchrophasor information over public IP network such as LTE, WiMax, WLAN, etc. Out of all the available wireless solution, LTE provides high flexibility, distance coverage, data rate with low latency and hence can play an important role in replacing the existing communication structure in a smart grid. The thesis work evaluates the performance and applicability of LTE for smart grid communication. An IEC 61850-90-5 communication model utilizing UDP/IP protocol to transmit and receive data over the LTE network was developed from the open source project. The modified model was used to benchmark the performance of LTE. Different communication metrics such as reliability, availability, latency, and throughput was evaluated to benchmark the performance of LTE for time critical smart grid application. The metrics were measured for different packet sizes and transmission rates combination. The result shares some interesting findings on the readiness of LTE for smart grid solution. It is concluded that cellular network can play an important role in realizing communication infrastructure in a smart grid application.

Lehmann, Johannes, and Nina Dwerlkotte. Carbon Farming and Its Impact on Agricultural Technology. SAE International, 2023. http://dx.doi.org/10.4271/epr2023026.

Full text
Abstract:
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">The agricultural sector is responsible for a large share of anthropogenic greenhouse gases. At the same time, methods such as targeted land use change can reduce emissions from landscape elements and sequester carbon from the atmosphere in the soil. This process, also known as carbon farming, has not been uniformly defined, and faces challenges regarding establishing new requirments for agricultural vehicles and technology, creating profitable business models (that preclude “greenwashing”), and developing governmental frameworks and industry acceptance.</div><div class="htmlview paragraph"><b>Carbon Farming and Its Impact on Agricultural Technology</b> discusses the large development gap for carbon farming methods, especially with regard to agricultural technology. In addition to the new hardware requirements arising from land use change, there is also a need for the further development of software. The establishment of suitable interfaces and solutions that are interoperable with existing technologies is also crucial at this point. This report clearly shows that more funding for research and development is needed today so that appropriate standards can be set and carbon farming can contribute to climate protection in the future.</div><div class="htmlview paragraph"><a href="https://www.sae.org/publications/edge-research-reports" target="_blank">Click here to access the full SAE EDGE</a>TM<a href="https://www.sae.org/publications/edge-research-reports" target="_blank"> Research Report portfolio.</a></div></div>

Zhou, Jiayi, Fei Su, and Jingdong Yuan. Treading Lightly: China’s Footprint in a Taliban-led Afghanistan. Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.55163/ovbo3684.

Full text
Abstract:
This SIPRI Insights Paper provides a preliminary assessment of China’s attitudes to and policies on Afghanistan since the August 2021 Taliban takeover. It examines the scope of China’s security, economic and humanitarian interests, and the depth of its engagement so far. It finds that China’s footprint has been minimal not only due to China’s non-interference policy but also to a range of broader challenges: the militant extremist groups that continue to operate on Afghan soil, the risks of investing in a country where the government remains unrecognized by any member of the international community and a fragile stability that is far from conducive to long-term planning. While there may be prospects and opportunities for China to contribute to Afghan stability and development, particularly from a broader regional perspective, current realities mean that China’s overall approach to Afghanistan will remain cautious, pragmatic and limited.

Fabling, Richard, and David C. Maré. Pay in Māori-led firms. Motu Economic and Public Policy Research, 2024. https://doi.org/10.29310/wp.2024.05.

Full text
Abstract:
This study examines whether working in a Māori-led firm contributes to the earnings of Māori employees. It uses administrative data for 2005-2020 to identify Māori-led firms, based on the ethnicity and descent of working proprietors, and using an improved method of measuring descent. Almost 8% of Māori employees work in Māori-led firms. Controlling for firm and worker characteristics, we find that Māori-led firms have slightly lower than average multi-factor productivity and wage levels. The wage effects for Māori of working in a Māori-led firm are small but there is some evidence to suggest that moving between Māori-led firms contributes to wage growth for wāhine Māori, and that in Māori-led firms there is stronger pass-through of firm performance to earnings levels for tāne Māori.

Abstract:
<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Original equipment manufacturers, Tier 1 suppliers, and the rest of the value chain, including the semiconductor industry, are reshaping their product portfolios, development processes, and business models to support this transformation to software-defined vehicles (SDVs). The focus on software is rippling out through the automotive sector, forcing the industry to rethink organization, leadership, processes, and future roadmaps.</div><div class="htmlview paragraph"><b>The Software-defined Vehicle: Its Current Trajectory and Execution Challenges</b> assesses the state of SDVs and explores the potential hurdles to execution and examines the work being done in the industry. The goal is to evaluate whether the implementation of SDVs will encounter the same fate as electrification or autonomous technologies, which after some level of disillusionment, are expected to pick up momentum in a more mature way.</div><div class="htmlview paragraph"><a href="https://www.sae.org/publications/edge-research-reports" target="_blank">Click here to access the full SAE EDGE</a>TM<a href="https://www.sae.org/publications/edge-research-reports" target="_blank"> Research Report portfolio.</a></div></div>

Shin, Boonam, Nitin Tiwari, Peter J. Becker, and Antonio Bobet. Improved Light Weight Deflectometer Test (LWD) and Analysis. Purdue University, 2025. https://doi.org/10.5703/1288284317813.

Full text
Abstract:
This study focused on improving light weight deflectometer (LWD) testing protocols and understanding material and equipment variability. The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) adopted the LWD test for its efficiency and effectiveness in measuring soil stiffness, a crucial parameter for pavement structural layers. However, challenges remain for implementing LWD testing, particularly in small construction areas. There are also challenges with establishing standardized performance-related criteria for various subgrade treatments. To address these obstacles, this research aimed to develop maximum allowable deflections for compaction quality assurance without relying on site-specific test sections. A large-scale laboratory testing facility was established at the INDOT research center and equipped with advanced sensing systems and a sandbox for controlled testing environments. Finite element (FE) models simulate material behavior under LWD testing conditions by using the viscoelastic plastic model to predict realistic deflection basins for different materials. Initial findings suggest that Dynatest LWD equipment provides more reliable results compared to Zorn LWD equipment, based on FE simulations. This study underscored the need for standardized calculation protocols and aimed to refine LWD testing procedures, enhancing the durability and reliability of pavement structures across various construction scenarios.
