Abstract:
Previously, from the plasma of unrelated haemophilia-B patients, we isolated two non-functional Factor IX variants, namely Los Angeles (IXLA) and Long Beach (IXLB). Both variants could be cleaved to yield Factor IXa-like molecules, but were defective in catalysing the cleavage of Factor X (macromolecular substrate) and in binding to antithrombin III (macromolecular inhibitor). In the present study we have identified the mutation of IXLA by amplifying the exons (including flanking regions) as well as the 5′ end of the gene by polymerase-chain-reaction (PCR) method and sequencing the amplified D

ABSTRACTThe herpesviral terminase complex is part of the intricate machinery that delivers a single viral genome into empty preformed capsids (encapsidation). The varicella-zoster virus (VZV) terminase components (pORF25, pORF30, and pORF45/42) have not been studied as extensively as those of herpes simplex virus 1 and human cytomegalovirus (HCMV). In this study, VZV bacterial artificial chromosomes (BACs) were generated with small (Δ30S), medium (Δ30M), and large (Δ30L) ORF30 internal deletions. In addition, we isolated recombinant viruses with specific alanine substitutions in the putative z

A new species, Ixalma mindanaoensis sp. n., of the subtribe Ixalmina (Rhamphini, Curculioninae) is described and illustrated from Mindanao (Suriago del Sur, Surigao del Norte and Lanao del Sur) of the Philippines. The new species is similar to Ixalma javanica Voss, 1934 but differs in a shorter rostrum and non-tuberculated third and fifth elytral interstriae. It is the first record of the genus Ixalma Pascoe, 1871 from the Philippines.
