Abstract:

The basal part of the Upper Cretaceous, mid-Campanian to Maastrichtian Izumi Group of the Izumi Mountains and Awaji Island, Southwest Japan, contains the most diverse gastropod fauna of this age in Japan. This paper discriminates 19 species and describes two new genera: Atira tricarinata n. sp., Ataphrus (s.s.) sp. A, Ataphrus (s.s.) sp. B, Globularia (s.s.) izumiensis n. sp., Lysis izumiensis n. sp., Trichotropis? sp., Deussenia takinoikensis n. sp., Volutilithes antiqua n. sp., Pseudoperissitys bicarinata Nagao and Otatume, Nekewis sp., Nipponitys inouei n. gen. and sp., Nipponitys acutangularis n. gen. and sp., Nipponitys sp. cf. N. magna (Kalishevitsch), Calorebama cretacea n. sp., Taniella japonica n. gen. and sp., Amuletum (s.s.) sp., Biplica osakensis n. sp., Biplica sphaerica n. sp., and Cylichna sp. The family Ampullospiridae is assigned to the suborder Architaenioglossa from the superfamily Naticacea. The enigmatic genus Lysis is tentatively assigned to the Calyptraeidae. Taniella japonica n. sp. is the oldest member of the family Olividae, and Calorebama cretacea n. sp. is the oldest member of the subfamily Pseudolivinae. Occurrence of Atira, Ataphrus, Biplica, and five perissityids further supports close communication of the northwestern Pacific Late Cretaceous gastropod faunas with those of the North American Pacific coastal areas.

Company usually teached work culture to every worker that can be seen from Japanese work ethic. For example ideology of Family Methaphore, Shushin Koyo seido (Lifetime employment) Nenko Joretsu ( Salary based on seniority ) and Kigyou betsu Kumiai (Union based on corporation). The work culture practice in Japan company has had positive and negative consequences. As we know, that it has great contributed to Japanese economy development it self. But, it also bring a number of social problem especially to many workers. Service overtime and Karoshi are the example of the consequences of Japan work ethic practice until nowadays. Worker are expected to give their deducation and loyality to job company. This paper will try to give explanation about the consequences of Japan work ethic practice in Japan.

The main objective of this research is to find out about some of the uniqueness of the early childhood education system in Japan that is different from other countries. This research is a type of literature study that only relies on data from written sources such as books, journals, articles, and others. Data collection methods used in this study include classification, analysis, interpretation of synthesis and description. From the results of the study, in general, it can be described that the early childhood education system in Japan has much uniqueness. From the results of the study, in general, it can be described that the early childhood education system in Japan has much uniqueness. This uniqueness can be seen in the activities of the beginning of the new school year and how to enter kindergarten, at the entrance ceremony for new students, when doing daily activities in class, when additional activities outside the classroom and when organizing traditional Japanese cultural activities.

Abstract:

Japanese history course is one of the primary supporting knowledge for Japanese language and culture learners to understand Japan as a whole. Therefore, the Japanese Language and Culture department at Darma Persada University, providing a Nihon no Rekishi (Japan History) lecture using Japanese language textbooks of Japan History. However, based on the results of the evaluation using a questionnaire, Japanese language modules that our campus had now does not give a positive impact on student understanding. Based on this, our goal is to make Japanese History module with developing lecture materials. The development of teaching materials in the form of this module is a Research and Development (R&D) research, based on the ADDIE (Analyse, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) method. First, the results of the analyse phase is improvement needed in order to be able to present knowledge that is not only useful and actual but also encourages students to think critically about Japan history. Second, the results at the design stage, a teaching module is prepared, which contains balanced explanations with pictures or mini videos. They can question about pictures or figures or events that have multiple perspectives for discussed with teacher in lectures. Third, in the development stage, based on the results of analysing and design stages with consultations from leading universities in Japan experts found that at the development stage, have the results that the implementation and evaluation contents of the module are a simplification of reference literature materials, and provide several perspectives on figures and events in Japanese history.

Abstract:

The number of Japanese learners in Indonesia ranks the second largest in the world after China. In addition to great interest in Japanese popular culture products, such as anime and manga, the enthusiasm of Japanese learners to study in Japan has become one of the main motivations for learning the Japanese language. The changing in educational policy implemented by the Japanese government has also offered a new possibility for study in Japan. This study aims to explain how the motivation to study in Japan was cultivated through the process of Japanese language learning in higher educational institutions in Indonesia. Researchers collected data using a set of a questionnaire distributed to Japanese language learners at designated universities and interviews with some of the respondents. This study focused on three issues: factors that motivate students to choose Japanese language study programs in university, language skills that learners want to develop in university, and their interest in studying in Japan. The result showed that interest in the Japanese language was the primary motivation for many learners to continue their study in higher educational institutions. The ability to communicate with native Japanese speakers was a significant achievement for a Japanese learner, but at the same time, it was a difficult task to achieve. Study in Japan provided an opportunity for learners to improve their Japanese language skills and to gain experience in Japan. These things were expected to increase the value of learners’ cultural capital and access to previously unobtainable resources.

Abstract:

Pokemon Go is a smartphone game that blends the real and digital worlds, tasking players with exploring their neighborhoods to find creatures and treasure for in-game use. This research describes the ways Japan uses its soft power in international coorporation relations, particulary through Pokemon Go’s game. Based on Joseph S. Nye, Jr, the soft power defined as the ability of country to achieve its goal using cultural attraction rather than coercion and violence. After the World War II, Japan has tried to change its image as war crime through popular culture, such as anime, manga and cosplay. According to Nye, Japan has more potential resources in soft power compared to the other countries. This research is focus on Popular Culture of Pokemon Go’s Game as Japan’s Soft Diplomacy. Pokemon Go is one of Japan’s cultural diplomacy activities and the other countries uses popular culture to strengthen the positive image of Japan in the international world. The development of popular culture as a soft power and soft diplomacy also a diplomacy tool of development that can be used by Japan in conducting foreign policy in relation to international cooperation.

(Title: Informal and Formal Controls Against Yakuza in Japan) This research explores how far yakuza's development in Japan and to find social factors which affecting its change. The methods used are literary research. This paper discusses the implementation of formal and informal social control in Japanese society and its ties to yakuza. The fact that yakuza, as Japanese mafia, have been intervening its society for decades, is a strange phenomenon since Japan is known for its low crimes as portrayed on most of the media. The formal control section will be focused on the National Police Agency of Japan, while the informal control section will be focused on Japanese society, emphasizing on its culture. Both controls leave the door open for yakuza to establish power in society. This may lead to the conclusion that Japan’s social control is relatively weak.

AbstractUntil recently, mosasaur remains from the Izumi Group (Upper Cretaceous) in southwest Japan comprised only scattered finds; now a richer material is available. From the upper Campanian Hiketa Formation in Kagawa Prefecture, Kourisodon sp. has just been recorded, on the basis of portions of skull and mandible which has small and laterally compressed teeth. A few teeth of the same or similar type have previously been described from the Maastrichtian Mutsuo Formation in Osaka Prefecture. A report of Mosasaurus sp. A, which resembles M. missouriensis and M. dekayi, is based on some cranial and mandible remains, inclusive of numerous teeth and a few well-preserved cervical and two incomplete dorsal vertebrae, from the Maastrichtian Mutsuo Formation in Osaka Prefecture. A slender tooth of Mosasaurus sp. from the Mutsuo Formation has since been reassigned to Platecarpus (Plioplatecarpinae); yet, this may indeed by a species of Mosasaurus, here listed as Mosasaurus sp. B. To date, smaller specimens of mosasaurids have been shown to be abundant in the Izumi Group, which suggests two possible explanations. Either most of these represent juveniles, or smaller-sized, Kourisodon-like animals flourished here. Finds of Kourisodon sp. from the upper Campanian Hiketa Formation and the Maastrichtian Mutsuo Formation suggests the second explanation is the more likely one.

Indonesia is one of the countries that send migrant workers to more developed Asian and Middle Eastern countries. The increasingly rapid flow of globalization in the world goes together with the need for new workers to fill the industry, especially in Japan. This condition has forced Japan to open doors for foreign workers from developing countries to satisfy demand. These workers usually come from developing countries, such as Indonesia, Vietnam, China, the Philippines, and others. In general, they occupy the less desirable working positions over Japanese youth, the so-called 3D work (dirty, dangerous, and demanding). Therefore, the current dynamics of these migrant workers' life in Japan becomes an exciting subject to comprehend, especially for the Indonesian migrant workers. This study aims to determine the dynamics of Indonesian worker's life while working in the Japanese fisheries sector. In particular, the study looks at those who work in oyster cultivation in Hiroshima prefecture. This research was carried out using descriptive analysis methods and field study with in-depth interviews conducted from 2016-2018. The interviews performed in this study were structured to find answers for the following questions: What problems do the workers face while living in Japan? What kind of processes did they go through before coming to Japan? While working in the Japanese fishing industry, how was their life as a Muslim minority?

(Title: Batik Clothes As Omiyage: Case Study On Japanese University Students Who Had Studied At UGM In 2009-2017) Batik has long been known as a typical culture of Yogyakarta, and therefore it is most likely chosen by the tourists to take home as souvenir. Until 2017 UGM which is located in Yogyakarta is often visited by students from Japan. As well as studying, they also become tourists who will buy omiyage before returning to Japan. The culture of giving omiyage has existed in Japan since ancient times and until now the term omiyage is still being used for something given to others after traveling. This study aims to determine the relevance of batik clothing as omiyage according to the view of Japanese students who have studied at UGM from 2009-2017. Data were obtained through questionnaire distributed during July 2017 to 60 Japanese students who had studied at UGM. The results of this study indicate that food is still preferred to be omiyage, and batik clothes is not a suitable item to be brought home as omiyage, because of some perceptions about batik clothes as somehing not quite universal to wear in Japan.

Abstract:

This article aims to discuss the Japanese modernisation of the Mutsuhito Emperor Era, which focused on the developments that triggered Japan to become an imperialist country. The Bakufu government, which had been in power for more than 250 years, must finally end. After being deemed unable to handle the country's condition, the Bakufu government returned the Japanese government ultimately to Emperor Mutsuhito. During the occupation of the Empire's seat, Emperor Mutsuhito was assisted by his advisers to make changes in all fields. The main fields were built by them, such as reorganise the political bureaucracy, developing industrial-economic, and developing military technology. Supported by the progressive developments in the country, Japan was transforming into a large industrial nation. To meet its industrial needs, Japan became an imperialist country and defeated China and Russia during the Mutsuhito period of government. The method used in this research is historical and has five steps, among others determining the topic, sources collection, sources criticism, interpretation, and writing. The results showed that the aggressive development and strengthening in political bureaucracy, industrial economics, and military technology in the Meiji era were the roots of the spirit of imperialism of new Japan. Political, economic, and military are the reasons to undertake imperialism besides cultural and religious reasons

Abstract:

Suicide cases are still a big challenge for Japan, even though in the 21st century, the government began to pay attention to and follow up on this phenomenon. While Japan's suicide rate among adults is declining, the rate in minors increased, and suicide is the highest cause of death for those under 20. This research reveals the problems and factors around suicidal teens in Japan through twelve characters' stories in 12 Suicidal Teens Film. To understand this film, what meaning that brought to discussion requires interpretation. Paul Ricoeur said that text or work is a dialogue to reveal the dimensions of reality in the phenomenological approach. The suicide motives expressed by 12 teenagers in the film 12 Suicidal Teens could be common. However, there are several factors such as religion, culture, social, even economic trends that could influence teenagers to commit suicide. The result shows that the social changes in Japan put pressure not only on adults but also on the lives of the youth. Also, information that is increasingly easy to obtain by anyone can become a boomerang for society because people can learn from what this information says.

During spring season, mass media reports about Zensen Sakura, that is prediction the growth of Sakura in many places in Japan, along with climate prediction. By that information, Japanese people are ready to welcome warmer air in the spring ( after winter) and holding Hanami feast. Based on that situation, writer interest to write this research by the title “ The Attraction of Sakura Flower for Japanese people”. The problem that will be analized is how is the attraction and the effect of Sakura flower for Japanese people. In this research, writer uses literary review from internet, article, and many other sources. The attraction of Sakura flower is Japanese people can enjoy Hanami with family, friends, and close person in the office and organization. This study discusses about the condition of the re-employed senior workers after retirement in Japan’s manufacturing companies. Since experiencing demographics problems, Japan faces many obstacles, one of them in the employment sector. Meanwhile, the government more incentive to make efforts to make Japan's rise from the stagnant economic situation after the economic recession since the 1990s. One of them by employing returning senior workers who have retired. The age of workers in Japan's pensions set by the government at the age of 60 years and the government is trying to raise the limit. Policies readmission of senior workers in the manufacturing companies of Japan after retirement is the type of work contract system. With a logical consequence of the creation of a number of different conditions with the conditions of the workers before retirement. The most prominent difference is the condition of the status of work and reduced the salary given up to 50% as a result of the worker's status has changed. However, there are still some conditions such as the number of hours worked, the same job. And on the part of senior workers have a good respon to their readmission policies in the company to support the employment sector in Japan. To obtain primary data, the authors distributed questionnaires to employees of manufacturing companies who are above the age of 60. In addition, the authors also conducted interviews to a number of parties for additional data.

This paper show that there’s a transition from traditional family to modern family that influence change of children utility from good utility become comsumption utility. (Title: Deus Versus Ohirume in Kamigami No Bishou: Cultural Clash Between West and Japan) The Kamigami no Bishou short story is one of the most famous Japanese literary works, Akutagawa Ryuunosuke. Kamigami no Bishou was created by Akutagawa in 1922 which tells the meeting of Organtino, a Christian missionary in Japan with an old man who was the embodiment of one of Japan's ancient gods. The purpose of this article is to reveal how the clash of cultures between the West and Japan was reconstructed in Kamigami no Bishou short stories. To achieve this goal, the following steps are taken. First, an explanation of the terms contained in the Kamigami no Bishou Short Story. Second, explained the actions of two figures in the short story that are in opposition to the Greimas model's official scheme because this scheme can make it easier to understand the actions and motivations of the characters. Third, the analysis of one of the short story structural elements is a theme with the aim of understanding the essence and purpose of the entire short story. Fourth, further explanation about the reconstruction of Western versus Japanese cultural clash which is explained by the presentation of binary opposition. After going through all four stages, it was concluded that the reconstruction of cultural clash in Kamigami no Bishou short stories was presented by Akutagawa in a conversation between the Organtino character and the old male character. Through a dialogue centered on Deus versus Ohirume carried out by Organtino figures and old male figures, Akutagawa indirectly wanted to convey the message that Japanese tradition and culture would not be destroyed due to influences from foreign cultures that entered.

This study discusses the identity negotiation and resistance of the Zainichi minority to Japanese domination as the majority group in the literary text by Kazuki Kaneshiro. Zainichi is Korean people who came and have settled in Japan before and during World War II. As a minority group in Japan, Zainichi often faces discrimination from Japanese people due to his identity. Issues regarding the issue of Zainichi's identity are a dominant theme raised in the literary work of Zainchi (Zainichi bungaku). One of the authors of Zainichi's literary works is Kazuki Kaneshiro who wrote a novel entitled Go in 2007. Go novel as a literary text of Zainichi will be used as research data to reveal how Zainichi's identity negotiations are articulated by Zainichi characters and how their resistance against Japanese domination as the majority community group. By using postcolonial studies and analyses the structure of the narrative text, this research can reveal the forms of identity negotiation and resistances dis-course represented by Zainichi characters. Identity negotiation is seen through using Japanese name by Zainichi characters while interacting with the Japanese and changing the nationality from Korean to Japanese. Meanwhile, physical violence, mimicry (imitation), a mockery of Japanese behaviours, and maintaining their identity and Korean culture as resistances to counter the Japanese domination in the novel Go.

Japan becomes one of the countries that has been producing worldwide popular culture, namely through anime. Besides its popularity which attracts wider audiences, anime cultivates cultural content as it is also found in popular anime entitled “Kimi no Na wa”. Aside from its popular culture, Japan has undoubtedly been known for its ‘high culture’ products such as haiku or Zen, to which Japanese identity is attached. Then, the content of Japanese locality performed in the anime highlights some crucial issues related to Japanese identity, including the problematic relationship between traditionality and modernity, generations, and genders. Thus, the local content in the anime is interesting to scrutinize how traditional values are depicted and negotiated concerning Japanese identity. Since this study is descriptive-qualitative research, it answers the problem by describing the phenomenon and employing the interpretative method by Hall’s concept of identity. The selected data related to locality and identity obtained from the movie and poster are grouped and approached by Hall’s semiotic representation to see the relation to its significations. Finally, this brings out the interpretation of the data indicating that the anime portrays the ‘return’ to local culture. It is referred to as ‘nihonjinron’, which is particularly emphasized in youth life. Through this film, the identity is negotiated. The characters (Taki and Mitsuha) perform post-modern subjects; a case in point accepts the changes as they develop their identity in the current era.

AbstractWell-preserved upper and lower jaws of the aptychus-type found inside the body chambers of two specimens of the heteromorph ammonoid Pravitoceras sigmoidale Yabe, 1902 (Nostoceratidae, Ancyloceratina) are described from the Upper Cretaceous Izumi Group in Southwest Japan. They are similar in overall morphology to those of other nostoceratid and diplomoceratid ammonoids currently known, suggesting the morphological stability of the jaw features among these taxa. The equal size of the upper and lower jaws with beak-like rostral projection suggests that the jaw apparatus of this species might function to bite and cut up prey.

In that era, Japanese trading activities that dominated by Japanese goods pitchman like textiles, drugs, soap and the other daily necessary untill suburb of Java, changed into permanent economic activities in the form of a small shop that popular among Javanese society in that era as Toko Jepang or Japanese Store. In the end of 1910 untill early 1940s, Japanese store’s activities were growing and increasing to become an icon in the economic relation between Japan and Dutch East Indies. During that period, there was increase and decrease in Japanese store’s activities, but at the world economic crisis in 1920s, Japanese Market was able to survive, even Japanese products from Japanese Store was better than Chinese and European products. Japanese store, that popular among indigenous was known for it’s good service, cheap price and good quality products. This research is trying to find how Japanese store can build it’s connection and the factors that supporting and obstacling Japanese store’s growth in that era. In this research, besides the diaries of Japanese immigrants such as Jagatara Kanwa and Nanyou no Seikatsu Kiroku, Japanese newspaper of Touindo Nippou was used as main sources. Content analysis was applied as a method to determine the contents in those sources which were relevant to the topic of this research. It can be concluded that the success keys of Japanese store was marketing strategies that supported by a strong trade connection, beside another factors like the success of observing people’s needs and product marketing strategy.

Internationalization of Japanese Higher Education is not a new issue, but has begin since 1983. In 1983, the Japanese Government lead by Prime Minister Nakasone Yasuhiro announced its plan to accept 100.000 international students by 2000. The target number of international student was reached in 2003. In 2008, Japanese Government announced new plan to accept 300.000 international students by 2020. This plan called Global 30 or Ryuugakusei 30-mannin keikaku. To achieve this target, thirteen universities has been chosen to be pilot for the project. One of main aim of Global 30 is to develop system where student can learn in international method, so some university offer English program by invite English speaker lecturer, and English training for university’s staff. This paper reviews the internationalization of Higher Education in Japan, focus on Global 30 project.

This paper describes a dynamics proletarian literature and its relationship with Kanikosen novel by Kobayashi Takiji, including; the institution, ideology, production, and figures associated to narration used by Marxism theory posed by the author as one of the Japan "wild literatures" in the 1920s. This paper aims to usher the readers to the narrative of the Japanese proletarian literature and illustrates the Japanese proletarian literary map development. The form of “wildness” obtained by author is a social class conflict in literary texts such as in the Kanikosen story. Like an empirical reality, text construction, especially characterizations, background, and language style reflecting a dynamics of everyday social life. Intimidation, exploitation, deception, torture, suffering labor on one side and on the other side, the accumulation of profits, accumulating capital individually, and the arbitrariness of employers conducted by the owners of capital, reflected brightly by Kobayashi Takiji.

Speech is a way of expressing ideas in the form of words or discourse that is prepared to be spoken in front of the audience. Speech contains a message that is tailored to the situation when the orator delivers the speech. In addition to the message to be conveyed, the ideology and thoughts of an orator are also reflected in his speech. Therefore, an orator must have expertise in delivering his speech.This research is aims to determine the purpose and background of the Shinzo Abe Policy Speech at the 195th Session of Diet. The speech was delivered by Abe after he was re-elected as Prime Minister of Japan after the general election on October 22, 2017.Researcher used the critical discourse analysis of Teun A. van Dijk's model to dissect the ideology contained in the speech to focus on text analysis. Based on the results of this research, it can be interpreted implicit meanings in the text through linguistic elements, such as tematic, skematic, semantic, sintaxs, stilistic, and retoric.
