Abstract:
The legal authorities set the minimum capital level for the banks. Recent studies have shown that variables used to explain capital structure of non financial firms, such as size, profit, leverage, liquidity and risk, could also be helpful in understanding banks’ capital structure. This paper aims to evaluate the impact of bank-dimensional and environmental factors on bank’s capital adequacy ratio in South Eastern European (SEE) region. Size, profitability (ROA), leverage, liquidity, net interest margin (NIM), and risk are used as bank-dimensional explanatory variables in a feasible GLS regression model. On the other hand, economic growth rate, inflation, real interest rate, Eurozone stock market volatility index, deposit insurance coverage, and governance indicator are added to the original model to control for environmental factors. Annual data from 71 commercial banks belong to 10 different countries in SEE region for the period of 2007 – 2012 is used. This region mainly consists of the “transition economies” which are still experiencing the difficulties of turning into efficient market economies with high economic potentials. The results of our study show that among the bank dimensional explanatory variables size, ROA, leverage, liquidity, net interest margin and risk have statistically significant effects in determining CAR for the banks in the region. Among the environmental factors, economic growth rate, Eurozone stock market volatility index, deposit insurance coverage, and governance have statistically significant effects in determining CAR for the banks in the SEE region.

Abstract:
The research aims to examine the effect of the effectiveness of internal control on trends in accounting fraud, examine the effect of information asymmetry on trends in accounting fraud, examine the effect of compensation appropriateness on accounting fraud trends. Qualitative research was carried out through in-depth surveys and interviews with the management of Islamic banks in Malang, customers, and academics about the need for an internal control system that is in accordance with the characteristics of Islamic banks. The development of an internal control system using the COSO (Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of The Treadway Commissions) framework was adopted and adapted to the characteristics of Islamic banks. The results of the study offer a model of an Islamic bank's internal control system through five components of the COSO, namely (1) the control environment, (2) risk assessment, (3) control activities, (4) information and communication, and (5) monitoring that will benefit banks sharia to achieve strategic and operational goals, accuracy of financial reporting, and compliance with applicable policies and laws. Thus it will be able to help eliminate risks so that the performance of profit-sharing based financing can also be improved

Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is to assess the financial health of the company J&T BANK for the five-year economic period from 2010 to 2014 based on various methods of financial analysis. The entire thesis is structurally divided into two main parts. The first part, purely of a theoretical nature, deals with the very financial analysis, or its main aspects, which can comprehensively evaluate the bank's performance using financial and analytical methods. In the second part, there is application of the selected methods, which were introduced in the theoretical part, on the bank. First, absolute and ratio indicators are analysed-also in the context of the bank's competitive position-which are then supplemented by a detailed breakdown of return on equity, results of selected prediction models of financial distress, and SWOT analysis. In the conclusion, the thesis sums up all partial results obtained, which are then used for the prediction and evaluation of the overall financial situation of the company.

Abstract:
This paper researches the theoretical background needed for the implementation of literary texts with multicultural themes for use in EFL courses in Sweden and it offers several concrete didactical solutions for multicultural reading. The theory of multicultural education by J. A. Banks is presented with focus on the dimension of knowledge construction. The processes that are examined are the learning processes in the zone of proximal development by Vygotsky (1986), the concept of scaffolding by Woods, Bruner & Ross (1976) and the process of perspective-taking by Thein & Sloan (2013). These processes each employ a three-step sequence that moves students from their existing knowledge to new knowledge and revised personal opinions. The teacher’s role is to provide support during the learning process. The second part of the paper suggests different activities for the multicultural reading of a novel, used to make the process of multicultural knowledge construction and scaffolding visible. Teacher support includes text reduction, book discussion and language analysis. Discussion points found in Love Medicine start with revising the stereotypical images, discovering how personal experience influences knowledge or how ethnicity influences professional career choices. When teachers and students read literary texts with multicultural themes, students’ racial prejudice can be reduced (Banks 2004) and their ethical attitudes become more open (Thein & Sloan 2013). The literary work chosen for framing in the theory is Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich. The paper ends with a reflection over the limitations of multicultural reading projects.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis proposes the hypothesis that Brazilian writer João Guimarães Rosa’s The Third Bank of the River and Other Stories [Primeiras estórias, 1962; English translation published in 1968] is the author’s arrival point after a strenuous path toward aesthetic expression. Such achievement may be partially explained by the support provided by the book’s epigraphic experience, and also by the use of characters who apparently have a secondary role but eventually spring to the narrative foreground as protagonists. The paratextual elements could be described as “narrative poems”, similar to the ones Rosa wrote for Magma [collected poetry, 1936], as well as “parallel essays”, in which Rosa experiments with the genre of the very short narrative, through the excision and framing of texts written by others or the creation of epigraphs signed by pseudonyms. Not all texts have epigraphs, in order to highlight the correspondence between the paratext, the protagonist and the theme. The narratives where the protagonists are children (who are considered as paradigmatic characters in that they allow us to better understand how families are configured) are placed at the beginning of the section without epigraphs. At the same time, both the epigraphs and the characters in the stories lead us to recognize the presence of an implied author, which is a confirmation of Rosa’s aesthetic choices, especially concerning his preference for the genre of the short narrative.

In recent years, banking industry has shifted the focus to the business of wealth management. Both European sovereign debt crisis hits the global economy and the impact of capital markets continuous shaking to Taiwan''s banking and wealth management business, are the main reasons of low willingness to invest. In the impact of bank and customer relationship, customer awareness of investment risk increases substantially, profit is no longer the only considerations. Professional level on the banks of the wealth management business confidence, trust management specifically staff weakness (moral hazard), the decline on bank loyalty. This wave of European sovereign debt crisis will accelerate the market and the economy change, but the recent banking wealth management business shrink, although the main line market continued to fall, however, customers lose confidence in the wealth management products and financial planning experts in real terms is also one of the main factors. How can we learn lessons from past to this new understanding of wealth management is an important issue. The paper mainly discusses the banking wealth management business in the European sovereign debt crisis future trends.

Abstract:
Several studies in acellular systems have shown a covalent binding of eicosanoids to proteins (1). We have therefore investigated whether eicosanoids bind covalently to proteins in intact platelets. After incubation of washed human platelets with 14C-arachidonic acid, ethanol precipitation followed by extractions, a small fraction of the radioactivity (0.3%) was tightly bound to the protein pellet. Four criteria suggest the covalent nature of this binding. The radioactivity remained bound after exhaustive extractions with solvents of various polarities, and was not removed by dialysis against SDS-buffer. 15 labelled protein bands could be separated by SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). Finally, exhaustive enzymatic hydrolysis of platelet proteins by several proteases liberated an amphipathic radioactive material which had a chromatographic behaviour similar to that of a known peptidolipid, leuko-triene c4 This covalent binding involved products of both cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase pathways : it was partially inhibited by indomethacin (±40%) and completely abolished by eicosatetraynoic acid. The covalent binding was increased five-fold by dazoxiben, suggesting attachment of prostaglandin endoperoxydes , and by diamide (a glutathione depleting agent) (2) suggesting the involvement of 12-hydro-peroxyeicosatetraenoic acid. Dazoxiben and diamide intensified selectively the labelling of distinct protein bands, separated by SDS-PAGE. Further studies will be needed to evaluate the possible physiological significance of this covalent modification.(1) Wilson, A.G.E. et al. Prostaglandins 18: 409-422, 1979.(2) Bryant, R.W. et al., J. Novak, Jiri. "About Relation Between Irradiation Hardening of Ferritic Steels and Ductile Fracture Toughness Decrease." In ASME 2009 Pressure Vessels and Piping Conference. ASMEDC, 2009. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/pvp2009-77026.

Full text
Abstract:
We showed recently that temperature dependence of the ductile fracture toughness can be predicted on the base of two assumptions: 1) assumption of constant characteristic length, 2) assumption of proportionality between J-R curve slope and deformation work in unit volume, evaluated from zero to critical strain for initiation of deformation bands determined in plane strain geometry for material modeled by deformation theory of plasticity. Temperature dependence of ductile fracture toughness results simply from temperature dependence of the stress-strain curve. Irradiation hardening changes stress-strain behavior in a qualitatively different way: It is observed that irradiation hardening to certain yield stress level changes the stress-strain curve of the material in the same way as prestraining of the unirradiated material to the same flow stress level does. Equivalence of irradiation and prestraining concerns all key properties of deformation theory; namely the secant modulus should be taken from the stress-strain curve of unirradiated material. With exception of this specific feature, the task of finding relative fracture toughness decrease by irradiation is the same as prediction of relative decrease of fracture toughness by temperature change. In the frame of the corresponding theory, relative decrease of ductile fracture toughness expressed by J-R curve slope can be obtained from the stress-strain curve of unirradiated material and irradiation hardening level. Quantitative results are presented for the weld metals 72W and 73W, studied in the Fifth Irradiation Series in the Heavy-Section Steel Irradiation Program, and compared with experimental data.

We have previously described the patient to have acquired von Willebrand's disease due to a circulating inhibitor to the factor VIII complex (B. J. Haematol-, 54,233,1983). Prior to infusion plasma from the patient contained factor VIIIC, RRCo, and vWFAg at less than 10 u/dl- Plasma factor VIII multimers showed an abnormal pattern with no high molecular weight bands present despite a normal triplet structure in the low molecular weight forms. After the infusion of porcine factor VIII concentrate a large increase in the levels of plasma VIIIC was detected with a disappearance half-life of 3.5 hours. A specific non-crossreacting immunoradiometric assay (IRMA) showed that plasma levels of porcine vWFAg did not rise significantly after the infusion. Despite this, human vWFAg levels were notably elevated at 1 hour (40 u/dl by Laurell) and 2 hours (30 u/dl by IRMA) post infusion. Similarly, ristocetin induced platelet aggregation and plasma RRCo levels showed significant elevations , 2 hours after the infusion. Factor VIII multimers assessed on plasma samples taken over a similar time period revealed the transient appearance of a normal compliment of human factor VIII multimeric forms 2 hours after the infusion of porcine factor VIII concentrate. This study indicates that the abnormal pattern of factor VIII multimeric bands present in inhibitor-related variant acquired von Willebrand's disease can be transiently normalised by infused porcine factor VIII concentrate. Whether this represents antibody displacement or de novo synthesis is yet to be determined.

Abstract:
We have identified a family of low molecular weight proteins with cell attachment properties in a variety of soft and mineralised connective tissues (Wong et al., Biochem. J. 232, 119, 1985). For further characterisation of these proteins we extracted porcine bones with 4 M guanidine hydrochloride and purified the proteins on a series of gel filtration columns The purifed SAPs comprise three bands with Mr -14 000 -17 000. All three proteins bound to heparin-sepahrose in both the presence and absence of 4M urea, and when eluted with 2 M NaCl they retained their cell binding capacity. These proteins promoted the adhesion and spreading of a variety of cell types, including normal fibroblasts, osteoblasts, and epithelial cells, and tumour (osteosarcoma) cells. On Western blotting SAPs did not cross-react with antibodies against fibronectin, laminin or type I collagen; however, they were recognised by a monoclonal antibody to human vitronectin, a polyclonal antibody to bovine vitronectin and polyclonal antibody to human somatomedin B. Dose response experiments indicated that maximum attachment of human gingival fibroblasts occurred in the presence or absence of fetal bovine serum on wells precoated with 2.5 μg/cm2 of SAPs. Attachment of cells to these proteins was partially inhibited by the synthetic pentapeptide Gly-Arg-Gly-Asp-Ser. Utilising the nitrocellulose cell binding assay of Hayman et al (J. Cell. Biol. 95, 20, 1982), the cell attachment to these proteins could be completely inhibited by heparin (100 units/mL) whereas up to 1000 units/mL of heparin had no inhibitory effect on cell attachment to fibronectin and vitronectin. The occurrence of these proteins in a variety of connective tissues and their recognition by different cell types may reflect their general biological role in adhesive mechanisms in both hard and soft connective tissues. Currently, we are investigating the relationship between SAPs and vitronectin, since it is possible that SAPs represent a tissue-processed form of vitronectin or may be novel attachment proteins with regions of homology with vitronectin
