Abstract:

Unimolecular reactions based on the Lindemann - Hinchelwood mechanism are important to understanding combustion and atmospheric processes. The main feature of this mechanism is the energy transfer probability distribution function, P(E',E). We have chosen to study P(E',E) through gas phase collisional dynamics probed with IR transient absorption spectroscopy. Post-collision absorption line widths for the pyrazine-N2O system are used to calculate lab frame translational temperatures. The translational temperatures reveal that collisions with large rotational energy transfer also transfer large amounts of translational energy. For J states >47 the relationship is linear indicating a constant impact parameter. Line widths for J=47 through J=59 also showed that there is no out-scattering from these states, in contrast to work performed previously in the Sevy group. The discrepancy between these measurements prompted a complete analysis of the causes of noise in the experimental system. Defective instruments were identified and noise sources localized, including IR diode frequency jitter. Improved experimental techniques and troubleshooting guides are explained for future researchers in the Sevy group.

The present work rescues the reflections of the English marxist historian Eric Hobsbawm about the history of the socialism within the Brief XX Century , more specifically the soviet socialism between the year 1917, in Russia, and the collapse of the Soviet Union, in 1991. Beginning from his personal history as a communist activist and as an intellectual of the English Social History we outline his ideas about the socioeconomic and political conditions which originated the October of 1917 and the raise of the so called really existing socialism in the Soviet Union and East Europe, as well as its implications on the history of the XX century, on marxist thinking, and on the political strategies of the international communist movement. Using tools as the ontological conception of the marxist work identified initially by György Lukács and kept on by István Mészáros and José Chasin we tried to analyse the contribution of Hobsbawm s historiographical thinking on the fight to overcome inequalities economic and social injustices created by the hegemonic capitalist mode in the world nowadays
O presente trabalho resgata as reflexões do historiador marxista inglês Eric Hobsbawm sobre a história do socialismo no Breve Século XX , mais especificamente do socialismo de tipo soviético que se desenvolveu entre a Revolução Russa de 1917 e o colapso da União Soviética em 1991. Partindo da sua trajetória pessoal de militante comunista e intelectual de relevo da História Social Inglesa, destacamos suas ideias sobre as condições socioeconômicas e políticas que originaram o Outubro de 1917 e a construção do chamado socialismo realmente existente na União Soviética e no Leste da Europa, bem como suas implicações na história do século XX, no pensamento marxista e nas estratégias políticas do movimento comunista internacional. Municiados pela concepção ontológica da obra marxiana identificada inicialmente por György Lukács e continuada por István Mészáros e José Chasin , procuramos analisar a contribuição do pensamento historiográfico de Hobsbawm na luta pela superação das desigualdades econômicas e injustiças sociais geradas pelo sistema capitalista hegemônico atualmente no mundo

Abstract:

Johann Joseph Fux's influence on the development of eighteenth-century alto trombone literature is significant. His music, when compared with that of other composers who wrote for the alto trombone before 1730, reveals a more elaborate and frequent use of the instrument. Many of Fux's compositions call for alto, tenor, or bass trombone, but his Sonata a Quattro K. 347 and Alma Redemptoris Mater K. 186 are of particular interest in regard to the composer's treatment of the alto trombone. This study points out the technical demands placed on the trombonist in Fux's works as compared to such contemporary composers as Antonio Caldara and Marc'Antonio Ziani. The primary goal of this study is to substantiate the importance of Fux's role in the development of the alto trombone repertoire. Published and unpublished works by Fux that significantly incorporate the instrument have been studied and compared to compositions of his contemporaries. A thorough discussion of Sonata a Quattro and Alma Redemptoris Mater illustrates the technical aspects of his alto trombone writing. The secondary goal of this study is to create a performing edition of Sonata a Quattro and Alma Redemptoris Mater. The existing editions in Denkmaler der Tonkunst in Osterreich and Johann Joseph Fux, Samtliche Werke are less than complete. There are no individual parts for performers, and tempo indications for several movements are missing. Mistakes in the parts of Sonata a Quattro and discrepancies between the figured bass and continuo realization have been corrected for the creation of a new edition. Identity development has a definite influence on a broad spectrum of developmental domains. This study focuses on specific domains such as student- and career development as facilitating structures from which the formation of a personal identity can be studied and understood. The purpose of this study is to undertake a descriptive investigation into the process of identity development during the late adolescent and early adulthood phases of college students. This developmental process has a definite influence on student development within aspects such as career maturity, intimacy and interpersonal relationships. These aspects' relevance to identity formation is also highlighted. This study utilises theories such as the psychosocial developmental perspective of Erik H. Erikson to investigate the purpose of a variety of factors within the sphere of student and career development. The test sample consisted of 78 students between the ages of 18 and 27 years from the Park Town Tertiary College. The following questionnaires were completed: the Extended Version of the Objective Measure of Ego Identity Status Questionnaire (EOM-EIS); the Career Development Questionnaire (CDQ) and the Student Developmental Task and Lifestyle Inventory (SDTLI). Taking the descriptive quality of this study in consideration, the statistical techniques used in the analysis of the quantitative data included canonical correlation analysis. The study concentrated on possible interventions and recommendations that takes the influence of identity developmental processes and career maturity in consideration with issues such as curriculum compilations, teaching methods and tertiary educational systems.
