Abstract:
The authors of this paper argue that worker co-ops need to be valued as an improvement in the quality of working life, yet all too often they and the agencies which support them are caught up in a “numbers game” of trying to maximise the number of jobs created in order to justify funding. It is important not to under-estimate the problem of under-capitalisation in co-ops, the stresses of establishing a new business for those with no management experience, and the cost and time needed for training. Co-ops are more an experiment in a new labour process than an easy cure for a dying economy.

Steel products made of ferritic steel can show some defects, such as jagged edges, following the hot rolling process. Aiming to identify the origin of this type of defect in order to help their reduction, an in-depth study has been carried out considering the hot rolling conditions of flat bars made of EN 1.4512 steel. A wide number of references to austenitic stainless steel can be found in literature: almost all the semi-empirical models describing the microstructural evolution during hot deformation refer to austenitic stainless steel. This paper presents a novel image interpolation method based on level-sets motion (LSM). The proposed method computes the speed field of level-sets adaptively, according to which the contours in images evolve at proper speeds. Thus it can produce images with less jagged edges stably and fast. To suppress blurring artifacts, the shock filter is used to get sharper edges in images. And the new method can interpolate images with arbitrary magnification factors (MFs). Experimental results have verified the effectiveness of the proposed method in terms of both objective and subjective image quality

In today’s precarious world, working people’s experiences are becoming more alike even as their disparities sharpen. This book unfolds a critique of the precarity phenomenon by setting Latino day laborers’ commentaries in dialogue with critical social theory. The Fight for Time shows how migrant labor on society’s jagged edges relates to encompassing syndromes of precarity as both exception and synecdoche. Subjected to especially harsh treatment as unauthorized migrants, these workers also epitomize struggles that apply throughout the economy. Juxtaposing day laborers’ accounts of their desper

Abstract:
Land markets in India continue the elusive search for price discovery as determined by market forces. The LARR of 2013 has planted a floor on land prices. The role of state governments has become central to acquisition, or purchase, of land as a financially weak private industry has little access to credit. Outright purchase of land is stressing state finances and creating perverse incentives for hoarding. As states seek to work out their own land rules, it is essential for them to converge to a common ground for amending the jagged edges of LARR 2013. Major political parties like BJP and Congress should abandon the political optics of upholding LARR 2013 just on ‘pro-farmer’ grounds and work with states in a politically neutral fashion to seek such ground. Innovative ideas like whether bringing in land and real estate within GST can improve land purchase capacities must also be examined.

Abstract:
This chapter places Lawrence’s poetics, as developed in his poetry, in relation to his responses to other poets and poetic tendencies or movements, such as Pre-Raphaelitism, Symbolism and Aestheticism as well as contemporary free verse, Realism and Imagism. Lawrence knew and corresponded with many poets throughout his career, from Yeats and Pound to Amy Lowell and H. D. The extent to which he assimilated or resisted such diverse influences is the focus of this re-evaluation of Lawrence’s paradoxical status as an outsider inside. His poetics elude simple definition. So dissimilar are the kinds of verse to which Lawrence responded that his general openness to old and new voices, alike, helps account not only for this maverick status, but for the sheer variety of verse forms practiced in his poetry. Through the poetry of Whitman, Lawrence recovered the sense of ‘wonder’ that he had felt as a child hearing the Bible and listening to church hymns. Poetry also became a form of play. He soon discovered, too, how much work, or ‘groping’, was entailed in writing and resisted falsifying perfection. Double-edged, the ‘jagged’ edges perceived by Conrad Aiken became a signature trait. Dialectical and conflictual relationalism inflects his Whitmanesque style.

Significant progress has been made in the study of the developmental biomechanics of the embryonic chick heart through the use of the finite element method (FEM) [1, 2, 3]. Our work focuses on the geometry of the Hamburger-Hamilton stages 9–12 embryonic chick heart, approximately the time when the heart begins to function and undergoes drastic morphological changes, such as c-looping. Our objective is to devise a method for building an accurate 3D solid FEM mesh used for nonlinear analysis of the myocardium (MY) and cardiac jelly (CJ).
