Abstract:

Langtext engl.: Otto von Gierke (1841–1921) has had a lasting influence on key terms and concepts related to the modern understanding of the state. This volume is divided into three systematic parts, in which Gierke's political and legal thinking is analysed from the different specialist perspectives of sociology, history, political science and jurisprudence. The focus of these different perspectives is his organic understanding of law and the state, which he consciously developed in different genres. At the same time, it also becomes clear what, if anything, can be taken from Otto von Gierke’s ideas for our own contemporary understanding of the state. The principle of subsidiarity and Gierke's strong emphasis on the role of communities and corporations below the state level, for example, make this particularly tangible. Gierke's work develops the relationship between cooperative law and constitutional law, thus succeeding in developing an innovative, organic understanding of law and the state on the basis of a comprehensive historical analysis. Prof. Dr. Peter Schröder is Professor of the History of Political Thought in the Department of History at University College London. Die Visionen der Lebensreformer auf dem Monte Verità inspirierten Schriftsteller wie Hermann Broch, der selber ein Aussteiger war. Im verheißungsvollen Jahr 1900 gründeten Ida Hofmann und Henri Oedenkoven eine lebensreformerische Heilanstalt in Ascona, beeinflusst von Ideen Rudolf Steiners sowie Friedrich Nietzsches. Viele Spielarten des Aussteigens - von unpolitischen über sozialistische und anarchistische Positionen - waren in Ascona vertreten. Neben Karl und Gusto Gräser, Otto Gross und Erich Mühsam hospitierten in der Kommune Schriftstellerinnen und Schriftsteller wie Hermann Hesse, Ernst Bloch, Yvan und Claire Goll, Franziska zu Reventlow, Emmy Hennings, Hugo Ball und Oskar Maria Graf. Willkommen waren auch Vertreter der neuen Tanzkunst wie Rudolf von Laban und seine Mitarbeiterin Mary Wigman. Der Band untersucht die Faszination, die Nietzsches Philosophie auf die Kommune ausübte, sowie Spuren der Reformideen, die in der Medizin, der Architektur und der Literatur der Moderne zu entdecken sind. Sieben Aufsätze beleuchten erstmals Hermann Brochs Beziehungen zu diesen Gegenwelten, denn 1927 verkaufte er die Fabrik seiner Familie, schaffte mit vierzig Jahren den Berufswechsel vom Industriellen zum Schriftsteller und schuf in Wien sowie im amerikanischen Exil ein Erzählwerk voller Aussteigerfiguren.

Das Problem des Ausnahmezustandes ist in den letzten zwei Jahrzehnten aktuell geworden im Zusammenhang mit Sicherheits-, Finanz- und Gesundheitskrisen. Diese Ereignisse stellen eine Herausforderung für die liberale Demokratie dar, da sie die politischen Vertreter an den Rand der Legalität bringen können und zumindest potenziell Verfahren zu legitimieren scheinen, die ansonsten in einer liberalen Demokratie fragwürdig wären. Einige Autoren haben sogar Bedenken geäußert, dass die Ausnahme allmählich zur neuen Normalität geworden ist und dass wir (fast ohne es zu bemerken) in einer permanenten Ausnahme leben. In Reaktion darauf haben Experten darüber nachgedacht, ob der Ausnahmezustand ein geeignetes Mittel zur Lösung von Krisen ist und ob es andere Modelle gibt, die im Hinblick auf das Interesse an der Wahrung der liberalen Demokratie angemessener sind. Das Ziel des Buches ist es, eine wissenschaftliche Reflexion des Ausnahmezustandes zu liefern und zusammenhängende Begriffe zu diskutieren. This book gives you the historical sensation of coming face to face with the bodily expression and regulation of children's emotions over time. The study does this by encouraging you to look through the eyes of well-known artists, like Albrecht Dürer, Domenico Ghirlandaio, Jan Steen, Antony van Dyck, Rembrandt, and Titian in early modern Europe, and Jean-Baptiste Siméon Chardin, Thomas Lawrence,Jean-Honoré Fragonard, Philipp Otto Runge, Willem Bartel van der Kooi, Paul Gauguin, Auguste Renoir, and Jozef Israëls in the late 18th and 19th centuries. These sources are supplemented by works from less-famous artists, as well as popular emblem books, child-advice manuals, observations from the emerging child sciences, and personal documents. Jeroen Dekker observes children's emotions mainly in the child's world and in the domestic emotional space, and connects them with history's ongoing, underlying discourse on education and the emotions. This discourse was developed by theologians, philosophers, and moralists like Augustine, Aquinas, Erasmus, Descartes, Jacob Cats, John Locke and Jean-Jacques Rousseau, by Romantic educationalists like Friedrich Fröbel and Ellen Key, and by scientists like Charles Darwin and William James who emphasized the biological instead of the moral fundament of children's emotions. The story of children's emotions is told in the context of cultural movements like the Renaissance, Humanism, the Reformation, the Enlightenment, Romanticism, and the starting Age of Child Science. Children's Emotions in Europe, 1500 - 1900 crucially highlights the continuous co-existence of regulation-oriented and child-oriented educational views on children's emotions.
