Abstract:
Komenský and “Age of Extremes” among Slovenes 1: Didactica magna (The Great Didactic) and Komenský in its latest Edition The discussion presents a semantic, rhetorical, historiographical, methodological and editorial analysis of the only edition of Jan Amos Komenský’s fundamental work in the modern Slovene language—Didactica magna or The Great Didactic (Sl. Velika didaktika, Novo mesto, 1995)—that was met with reception (i.e., was accessible to the public). The analysis suggests that this edition—for reasons unexplained—lacks the basic determinants of scientific work and thus cannot be a valid ground for the reception of Jan Amos Komenský, either for the reader-expert or for the general reader. From the editorial point of view, the edition does not provide clear information about the original text, and there is no editorial report or comment on individual passages of the original / translation, e.g. unravelling citations in the original—all of which have been the standard knowledge repertoire of scientific editions of sources, even scholarly critical editions of translations since the early 19th century. The edition is not based on the scientific publication Dílo Jana Amose Komenského 15/1 (Academia: Praha, 1986), which since its publication has been the primary textual base for every reader-expert’s understanding of The Great Didactic and a mandatory textual starting point for re-creative reception in the form of translation. The analysed edition does not include comments, and since it only provides translation without any additional knowledge apparatus, it cannot be considered as popularizing either. The current situation impedes a full reception of Komenský and indicates the need to prepare a new critical translated edition of his selected didactic writings, where optimal results could be achieved by collaboration of experts from various disciplines (different branches of historiography, didactics, pedagogy, history of science). The edition should be 1) written in modern literary language and based on the historical-critical edition of Dílo Jana Amosa Komenského. 2) It should include selected fundamental didactic writings of Komenský, 3) obligatory editorial and translation report, 4) explanatory comments and translations, and 5) European studies on Komenský in his time, as well as 6) discussions on the reception of Komenský in Slovenia. Abstract:
The goal of this article is to detail the opposition to “Ramean tree” dichotomic divisions which emerged in the age of swelling Antitrinitarianism, especially Socinianism. Scholars such as Bartholomaeus Keckermann, Jan Amos Komenský and Richard Baxter made a point of preferring the trichotomic to the dichotomic division of Petrus Ramus and the Ramist tradition. This paper tracks the origin of Komenský’s “universal triadism” as present in his book metaphorics and in his metaphysics. Komenský’s triadic book metaphorics (the notion of nature, human mind and Scripture as “the triple book of God”) has its source in late sixteenth-century Lutheran mysticism and theosophy, mediated perhaps by Heinrich Khunrath and, above all, by Johann Heinrich Alsted. Komenský’s metaphysics follows the same triadic pattern. What is more, Komenský illustrates both these domains by means of Ramist-like bracketed trees; regarding book metaphorics, clearly his sources are Khunrath and Alsted. Although inspirations from Lullus, Sabundus and Nicholas of Cusa are most probably involved, the crucial role has to be ascribed to the influence of Lutheran mysticism and Alsted’s “Lullo-Ramism.”

Abstract:
After an overview of late medieval Latin biblical mnemonic tools with a special attention to those transmitted in Bohemia, the study moves to an analysis of the most singular biblical retelling from Bohemia, the Biblia picta Velislai (Velislav bible) from ca. 1340. While this “biblical comics” displays many inconsistencies both in its visual and textual aspects (e.g., there are only nine precepts of the Decalogue included), the author argues that such features were quite common during the Middle Ages and did not exclude its use for education and meditation. Like substantially later Manualník by Jan Amos Komenský (1623, printed 1658), the main aim of this and other biblical retellings was the moral edification of the readers.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper deals with the ethical views of the 17th century Czech thinker Jan Amos Komenský, also known as Johann Amos Comenius. Comeniologic studies are focused on different aspects of his contribution to education, theology and philosophy but surprisingly there are only a few studies on his ethical standpoints. Jan Patočka classified Comenius’s work in three periods: prepansophic, pansophic and panorthotic. Here the focus is on the panorthotic works in order to trace the different conceptions of ethics, virtue and other ethical concepts specially the virtue of prudence (prudentia/phronesis). Furthermore, to have a broader perspective, a short analysis of his prepansophic period book The Labyrinth of the World and the Paradise of the Heart is also included in order to contrast the evolution of the concept of prudence and the ethical sphere in his world-view. The methodology is based on conceptual analysis, the contrast of different references to ethics in his late period books. At the same time, this work is an attempt to extract secular elements for understanding his ethics, although the organic link between philosophy, theology and politics is recognized in his thought.

Abstract:
Koreni današnjeg sistema obrazovanja potiču od jednog od najznačajnijih pedagoga svih vremena, Jana Amosa Komenskog (1592-1670). Cilj ovog rada jeste analiza primene principa očiglednosti u delu „Orbis sensualium pictus“ Jana Amosa Komenskog.

Abstract:
This theses deals with the cycle “The Labyrinth of the World and Paradise of the Heart” for organ and the reciter, composed by Petr Eben who was inspired by the written artwork of the same name by Johannes Amos Comenius. Eben’s String quartet based on the same literary work is also mentioned. The content of this thesis includes the biography of both authors, Eben and Comenius. In order to achieve a better insight into the Comenius’s work, the outline of the contemporary political development and its philosophical and religious background is also included. The contents of several different passages of Comenius’s text are described in more details. These were used by Eben as the foundation for the organ improvisations. The description of individual musical parts of the cycle is also introduced. This theses also includes the inspirational sources of Eben’s cycle, especially the Comenius’s spiritual songs published in the Amsterdam Hymn Book, as well as the comparison between Eben’s manuscript and available printed versions of his cycle, and available audio recordings of his work. Last but not least this work also mentions the works of other Czech composers of the second half of the 20th century (i.e. J. Krcek, M. Raichl, A. Tucapsky) who were inspired by the Comenius’s creations (not only by the “Labyrinth”).

The thesis deals with the legacy of Johannes Amos Comenius for the contemporary protestant education; it tries to pinpoint the timelessness of Comenius' thoughts, his pedagogical rules, methods and principles. The religious schools, where these thoughts should be practiced in the first place, have their position in the system of Czech education and provide safe surroundings for children coming from religious families. The history of religious education in Czech and Moravia points to its historical anchors and meaning of its value system for the whole society. Abstract:
Comparison of Philosophies of Jan Ámos Komenský and René Descartes The aim of this work is comparison of philosophies of Jan Ámos Komenský and René Descartes based on their essential works, i.e."Labyrint světa a ráj srdce" (The Labyrinth of the World and the Paradise of the Heart) and "Úvahy o první filozofii" (Meditations on First Philosophy), in which God's existence and the difference between the human soul and body are proved. The philosophy of both contemporaries originated in the 17th century on the background of the Thirty Years' War and the Counter-Reformation. The rationalism of René Descartes, which starts Cartesian thinking, seems to be substantially different from the philosophy of Komenský based on Neoplatonism and Christianity. In the thought of Descartes analysis, mathematical operationalism, is principal, whereas Komenský synthesizes and puts the whole together. The first chapter of the thesis deals with the lives, period and works of Komenský and Descartes. It is possible to find significant similarities in their life stories. The second chapter deals with the interpretation of "The Labyrint of the World and the Paradise of the Heart" and the interpretation of "Meditations of First Philosophy", in which God's existence and the difference between the human soul and body are proved....

Pojetí výchovy u Jana Amose Komenského John Amos Comenius 's Approach to Education Petra Bochenková Jan Amos Comenius as a great thinker of the 17th century created a complete and comprehensive system that remained in his time misunderstood. After the Battle of White Mountain he was the greatest writer of emigration, philosopher, theologian, bishop of the Unity of Brethren. Last but not least, teacher and humanist. It should be appreciated Comenius theological importance of the creative effort, since the absolute top of the intellectual system is the existence of God. Throughout his working life has led to harmony and peace in the world, came up with the idea Pansophia. Pansophia trader a perfect connection and knowledge of all matters of life and the greatest possible realization of perfection. Opened the way to God. We can say that his ideas reached timelessness and especially in educational matters. Its comprehensive educational system can be applied in the field of education even today. His esteem gained mainly by its content overlaps with many, many areas of science and life. He sought to promote humanity and emphasized man as the pinnacle of God's creative efforts, which in his time represented something quite extraordinary. Abstract:
Jan Amos Komenský is a great figure of the Czech nation. However, despite his fame, he is a much more significant thinker than he is generally regarded to be. Labyrinth of the World and Paradise of the Heart has no equivalent in its time or in older Czech literature. Even if Komenský wrote nothing else, this book would guarantee him a prominent place in Czech literature. In Labyrinth, Komenský shows himself as a great believer who exactly uncovers human pride, uncovers imaginary and untrue independence of man and shows exactly and aptly the futility and true face of many human endeavours. Labyrinth is a merciless criticism of man. It is never nihilistic, though {--} it is always based on a deep and realistic sense of purpose, a deep feeling for the ethical. That is why Komenský{\crq}s irony {--} which is the essential accord of Labyrinth {--} is irony of sadness. Some of Komenský{\crq}s ideas are close and understandable to us; however, some are much more distant. It remains a question if what seems to us to be old, outdated or naive in Komenský, is a basis without which it is not possible to understand well and realize what we are no longer willing to identify with. Is the ``critic of rationalism{\crqq} and great believer in Komenský, so distant to us, his most important basis that gives viability and future to his own ideas as well as to all human endeavours? This work briefly describes the ideas and storyline of Komenský{\crq}s Labyrinth. Each chapter of this thesis attempts to find what is most important in the mass of text of Labyrinth and thus to briefly point out the significance of each part of the book. Sometimes exact quotations are used which should show the real sense of Komenský{\crq}s ideas in a better way. Quotations from the Bible which could be a base of Komenský{\crq}s ideas are matched to individual chapters. The attempt is to find those ideas of Komenský which could be used and could be useful in our society. On the basis of an elaboration on the book, this work attempts to point out the importance of real belief and keeping to its rules for the life of a man and a society as a whole.

Anotation Personality Jan Amos Comenius is viewed from different sides. There are a number of expert works which accommodates the personality of assorted sides about Jan Amos's Comenius's professional activities and human destiny. Me, I have not concerned his professional public and even organizational activity and intrigued me rather its human searching security in life through faith. Therefore, the subject of my work are more or less his fictional writings, therefore Letters to Heaven, Mournful, and The Labyrinth of the World and the Paradise of the Heart. I believe that if real life Comenius uses the term "consolatory", you can search just finding his comfort in his own creating and then in the tone in these works. Although these works are subjects of the harshest reality in his time. I think an interesting document is his correspondence expressing his worries mostly, but also sometimes the joy of his own works, as well as its human joy of universal recognition of his work. I most relied on the autobiography of John Amos Comenius, the work of Jan Blahoslav Čapek, work by Jaroslava Pešková, Pavel Říčan, Jan Václav Novák and of course my own reading Comenius's works from the sources.
