Abstract:
We show that, for any positive integers n and m, if a set S ⊂ Rm intersects every m − 1 dimensional affine hyperplane in Rm in exactly n points, then S is not an Fσ set. This gives a natural extension to results of Khalid Bouhjar, Jan J. Dijkstra, and R. Daniel Mauldin, who have proven this result for the case when m = 2, and also Jan J. Dijkstra and Jan van Mill, who have shown this result for the case when n = m.

Abstract:
In this note, we show that a mutation theory of species with potential can be defined so that a certain class of skew-symmetrizable integer matrices have a species realization admitting a nondegenerate potential. This gives a partial affirmative answer to a question raised by Jan Geuenich and Daniel Labardini-Fragoso. We also provide an example of a class of skew-symmetrizable [Formula: see text] integer matrices, which are not globally unfoldable nor strongly primitive, and that have a species realization admitting a nondegenerate potential.

Abstract:
The challenge of representing movement in literary texts involves not only a knowledge of the physical, affective, and cognitive aspects of motion, it also needs to engage with movement’s medial transformation in the act of writing. Thus, this article draws attention to the largely unnoticed importance of writing in its visual and spatial dimensions within the field of literary movement studies. The article explores the dynamic aspects of the concept of the ›figure‹ and traces its relation to the literary ›scene‹ or ›scenario‹. Drawing on contemporary literary and cultural theories of the ›scene‹ as a cognitive operation (Rancière) and engaging with examples of texts on movement (Pierre Rameau’s ‚Le Maître à Danser‘ and Jean- Georges Noverre’s ‚Lettres sur la danse‘), the aim of this article is to introduce the concept of the ›scene‹ as a (transdisciplinary) hermeneutic category for literary studies of movement in modernity.

Abstract:
Focussing on the double meaning of the concept of »movement« as both physical and emotional movement within the interdisciplinary frame of literary and dance studies, this paper examines the complex connections between the representation of emotional and dance movements in Jane Austen’s novel ‚Pride and Prejudice‘ (1813) by tracing an aesthetics of restraint, reticence and control (in compliance with the code of conduct promoted by contemporary dance treatises) in Austen’s writing: in the depiction of emotions in her text, in (the delineation of) her characters’ physical and emotional behaviour, and in the almost complete absence of references to dance per se and to dancemovements in her dance scenes. Dance scenarios are mainly used to provide implicit kinetic and cultural information for the representation of her characters’ sentiments.

Abstract:
This chapter provides the philosophical background for the discussion of Robert Boyle’s chemical philosophy by highlighting the most relevant theories that either influenced Boyle or to which Boyle was responding. The chapter begins by addressing the vitalistic character of Renaissance alchemy. The chapter then discusses the Scholastic theory of substantial form, to which Boyle seeks to provide an alternative. After this, the chapter addresses the Paracelsian spagyria and theory of the tria prima, since these come under specific attack in Boyle’s writings. The doctrines of semina rerum and minima naturalia are then discussed as they relate to vitalistic corpuscularian theories of matter. Finally, the theories and work of early modern alchemists Daniel Sennert and Jan Baptista van Helmont are discussed in detail since the experiments of these alchemists had a significant impact on the Boyle’s experimental work.

Abstract:
This chapter examines the political and artistic activities of dancer and choreographer Serge Lifar at the Paris Opera during and immediately after the Occupation of Paris. Although Lifar was condemned as a collaborator in a postwar trial he was rehabilitated after a brief exile and returned to work at the Opera until his retirement in 1958. The question of collaborationism has arisen again in light of performances by the Paris Opera and other dance companies of his ballets. Using archival materials usually ignored by dance scholars, the article examines Lifar’s political activities, his political convictions, and his political ambitions. His theory of ballet as set forth in La Danse: Les grands courants de la danse académique (1938) and two of his successful ballets of this period—Joan de Zarissa (1942) and Suite en blanc (1943)—are discussed in light of his politics. The chapter concludes with an analysis of corporeal fascism from a theoretical perspective including discussion of Carl Schmitt, Georges Bataille, Louis Marin, and Claude Lefort.

Spraying was performed in a 120 cm (24 in) diameter tablet pan-coater (Accela-Cota Model 10, Thomas Engineering, UK). The separate influences of drum rotational speed and drying air flow rate were studied by making measurements at four different pan-coater operating conditions: stationary drum with drying air turned on/off, and 8 rpm rotating drum with drying air turned on/off.
