Abstract:
AS SUSAN L. MEYER SUGGESTS, “[a]n interpretation of the significance of the British empire in Jane Eyre must begin by making sense of Bertha Mason Rochester, the mad, drunken West Indian wife whom Rochester keeps locked up on the third floor of his ancestral mansion” (252). In Richard Mason’s deposition concerning the marriage of Edward Fairfax Rochester and Bertha Antoinetta Mason in Spanish Town, Jamaica, Bertha is described as the child of Jonas Mason, West India planter and merchant, and Antoinetta Mason, identified only as a Creole. In Rochester’s account of Bertha’s family the “germs of insanity” are passed on by the Creole mother (334; ch. 27). In this essay I retraverse late eighteenth- to mid-nineteenth-century ethnographic discourses about white Creole degeneracy and situate Brontë’s representations of the Creoleness of Bertha and Richard Mason in relation to them, arguing that Jane Eyre demarcates both femininity and masculinity in imperial and racial terms, while also blurring these categories. Brontë, I demonstrate, links the degenerate moral and intellectual character of the white Creole with the cruelties of the slave-labour system in Jamaica, and with historical Jamaican slave rebellions figured through metaphor and allusion. This depiction suggests that Brontë has carefully historicized the relationships among Bertha Mason Rochester, Edward Fairfax Rochester, and Jane Eyre.

BALCONI, PAOLO. "IL ROMANZO EPISTOLARE NELL'INGHILTERRA DEL SETTECENTO: IL CASO DI JANE AUSTEN." Doctoral thesis, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, 2010. http://hdl.handle.net/10280/689.

Abstract:
The dissertation focuses on the epistolary novel in England in the second half of the eighteenth century, particularly on works written by women. The purpose of this study is to understand how Jane Austen (with her early writings and “Lady Susan”) represents both a synthesis of and a turning point in eighteenth-century novels in letters. In particular, two fields of study will converge into the works by Jane Austen: the first part, divided into three chapters, focuses on the importance of Samuel Richardson at the middle of the century (chapter 1) and of some woman writers such as Sarah Fielding, Charlotte Smith and Frances Burney (chapter 2), whereas chapter 3 is dedicated to the “golden period” of the English epistolary novel during the ‘80s and ‘90s. The second part of the dissertation is divided into four chapters and focuses more specifically on Jane Austen’s role within the development of the style and the fortune of the novel in letters. After a short autobiography of the author and an analysis of the correspondence between her and her sister Cassandra (chapters 4 and 5) in order to underline the importance of letters in Jane Austen’s upbringing, chapter 6 is dedicated to the Juvenilia, that is to say the works written between 15 to 20 years of age, while chapter 7 focuses on “Lady Susan”, a novel which represents the renunciation of the epistolary style by the author.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The thesis is an analysis of the concept of space and its representations in the novels of Janet Frame. Geography, movements, travels, places and dwellings are the basic elements that are examined in order to reveal the cultural and philosophical background of the author. In this perspective, both as an intellectual and as a fiction writer, Frame reveals her extremely original position in relation to some crucial issues such as New Zealand identity and the cross-cultural ties between the English-speaking countries.

Mayali, Nohad. Paris 11, 1986. http://www.theses.fr/1986PA112327.

Full text
Abstract:
Bean Yellow Mosaic Virus (BYMV, a Potyvirus) is today the most severe disease affecting the bean on account of the damage caused, of its frequency, geographical extension, and easy dissemination by aphids, and of the high susceptibility of most cultivars available. This virus may contaminate many other plant species including peas, thus encouraging breeders to emphasize selection for resistance to this disease. The purpose of the works presented in this thesis was 1/ To gain à better understanding of the virus populations occurring in the Paris Basin and involved in breeding, by the symptomatological and biological characterization of isolates on a wide range of differential hosts, the study of their actual agricultural impact on a few cultivars, the purification and characterization of virus particles, the preparation of antisera, and the carrying out of discriminatory serological tests. 2/ To examine certain epidemiological parameters of the disease, from certain isolates, by carrying out: a field and glasshouse study of the post-infection behaviour of some of the currently most important bean and pea cultivars, an analysis of virus translocation in a few cultivars after contamination at various levels and times, a study of the virus transmission by aphids (Mysus persicae and Aphis fabae) and by seeds. The results obtained allow a better characterization of the BYMV populations available and provide epidemiological information about the behaviour of many cultivars. Therefore, they also yield concrete information which should aid breeders in devising better schemes for the use of resistance sources taking into account the variability of this potyvirus

Abstract:
As the film theorist Janet L. Borgerson claims, there is something awry in our historical memory of Medea. This is precisely the point of departure for Pasolini’s film: he does not create an opposition between the world of patriarchal reason, embodied by Jason, and the matriarchal, irrational, archaic, and magical world personified by Medea. On the contrary, he shows that this opposition is itself the product of a historical conception.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This paper presents the numerical study of internal free convection in a vertical annulus. To predict the characteristics of nanofluids in heat transfer regime, thermal conductivity, density, and viscosity of clear fluid need to be modified. Numerous models have been disclosed to calculate these properties but recent models for viscosity and thermal conductivity which are in excellent agreement with experiments have been used. These models are thermal conductivity model of Jang and Choi and viscosity correlation of Nguyen et al. for 36nm Al2O3 particles. Inner and outer vertical walls are in constant temperature while horizontal walls are adiabatic. The continuity, Navier-Stokes and energy equation were solved numerically. Effect of nanofluids on buoyancy-driven heat transfer is investigated as a function of geometrical and physical parameters and various particle concentrations for aspect ratio of 0.2<H/L<5, Grashof number of 103<Gr<105 and concentration of 0<φ<0.12. Finally, one correlation is developed to demonstrate the effect of using atom-size particles on Nusselt number.

Objectives: The objectives of this study is to investigate the correlation of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in predicting the depth of myometrial invasion, cervical involvement and lymph node involvement and actual histopathological findings in the women with endometrial cancer. Methods: This is a reterospective study of the patients of endometrial cancer from Nov 2011 to Jan 2016 who underwent Surgery (Total abdominal Hystrectomy with B/l salpingoophorectomy with peritoneal washings with b/l pelvic lymphadenectomy with or without para aortic lymphadenectomy) at our centre Max Superspeciality Hospital. CE MRI Pelvis has been done pre operatively in every patient. After the surgery Histopathological reports of the specimen checked and compared with MRI findings of that case. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the validity of MRI findings of endometrial cancer in comparison to final histopathological findings. Results: For the detection of myometrial invasion, overall sensitivity of MRI is 93.9%, specificity is 66.6%, for cervical involvement Senstivity is 60% and specificity 1s 93.75% and for detection of lymph node involvement sensitivity is 66.6% and specificity is 93.5%. Most common Finding on MRI is thickened endometrium with disruption of Junction jone. Conclusions: Preoperative pelvic MRI is a sensitive method of identifying invasion to the myometrium in endometrial cancer. MRI Is a sensitive noninvasive modality in predicting locoregional spread in ca endometrium. Senstivity in detecting Myometrial invasion is high but sensitivity is less in detecting cervical involvement and lymph node involvement is less.

Abstract:
Contemporary processes of urbanization have outpaced the traditional notion of city. Connectivity has become a distinctive characteristic of urban spaces, so that networked cities don’t rely anymore on continuous urbanized areas, but on connections that rarely leave a direct spatial footprint. The new spatial structure of urban areas include greater inter-penetration of built-up and open spaces, and the emergence of urban enclaves, which can be spatially isolated despite being functionally connected to a city. In order to study these enclaves and their impact on urban form, a sample of 47 Spanish functional urban areas was examined, ranging from 36,000 to 6.0 million inhabitants. Land use polygons provided by SIOSE were grouped into three main categories (residential, non-residential and urban infrastructure) and cross-matched with functional urban areas defined by AUDES (an iterative method than combines morphological and functional criteria) in order to calculate compactness proximity index, gross and net density. Factors that influence urban compactness were identified: most northern and some coastal urban areas display a low compactness which can be attributed to orographic conditions; bigger cities tend to display high compactness, but smaller ones display a great diversity of values, from the highest to the lowest. A further analysis of small and intermediate cities helped to identify two complementary mechanisms of urban growth, spatial expansion of core areas and functional integration of peripheral nuclei, whose ocurrence in different proportions can explain the variation of compactness in the studied sample. Abstract:

Abstract:
With the continuous development of interactive technology, informatization has begun to integrate into people's life[1].Having been neglected in history, postpartum depression reminds us that we need to pay attention to maternal emotional needs and prenatal care[2]. In the current situation, it is worth researching the interactive products for prenatal emotional care. According to the survey, it is not difficult to find that some speech emotion and facial expression recognition technologies in artificial intelligence are developing Which have large potential for extensive use.[3,4]. Therefore, it is necessary and feasible to design prenatal emotional diagnosis tools for pregnant women. This study has designed a product to care for pregnant women by identifying their emotional needs through AI recognition technologies. Appropriate prenatal intervention is conducive to the prevention of postpartum depression[5,6] . The use of artificial intelligence recognition technology can provide an appropriate emotional care plan. This can reduce the difficulty of training medical personnel and the difficulty of relatives caring for pregnant women. Therefore, the risk of postpartum depression can be reduced. QUESTIONCollecting opinions and information from previous studies is an important reference for this study. Therefore, this study needs to solve the following problems.1) How to design an artificial intelligence product that can accurately diagnose the emotion of pregnant women?2) How to integrate AI facial emotion recognition technology?3) How to help nurses and their families take care of users more professionally and easily through the information database?4) How to adapt the emotional care program provided by interactive products to different pregnant women? Methods:the research methods of this study are as follows:1) Observing the working process of artificial midwives and psychologists to find Which part can be assisted by machines[7].2) To understand the emotional needs of pregnant women through interview.3) To brainstorm according to the real data collected before and research findings, and then design interactive products that can practically solve the emotional care problems of pregnant women.4) Through the experiment of AI emotion recognition technologies, the feasibility of emotion recognition is verified. CONCLUSIONS:With the continuous development of artificial intelligence, more and more artificial intelligence products have entered our life [1]. This study is aimed to help pregnant women prevent prenatal and postpartum depression and maintain their health through artificial intelligence interaction technologies. This study is exploring the solution under the help of artificial intelligence after studying the problem that prenatal and postpartum emotion are neglected. This design is still in the conceptual design stage, but it seems only a matter of time before this design is applied in the future[8]. REFERENCES:[1]. Lee H S , Lee J .
