Abstract:
This thesis argued that the Jain community in the diasporic context of the USA has invented a new form of Jainism. Sectarian negotiations are the distinguishing marks of the diaspora Jain community and their invented form of Jainism. Based on ethnographic study that is, interviews and observations conducted at four different sites (Jain temples/communities) from June-August 2016, the thesis examined the sectarian negotiations among the diaspora Jain community in the USA and the invented Jain tradition that is resulting from these negotiations. The central questions of the research on which this thesis is based were: 1) what are the levels, processes and results of sectarian negotiations within the Jain diaspora community in the USA, and 2) what is the nature and characteristic of the new form of Jainism, the invented tradition; and how do Jains in the USA experience and use it.

Abstract:
There are two parts to this thesis; one is a critical study, the other comprises two literary texts. In the first part, I speak of the links between fiction and autobiography. Having defined these two terms, I then look at the ways they are present in several works by Janine Boissard, a French writer. I try to understand the techniques that are needed to write fiction and autobiography. The second part of the thesis contains an autobiographical story and a short story that uses some autobiographical elements. It shows how an event is modified by memory, in the case of the autobiographical text, and by imagination, in the case of the short story. Finally, in a brief essay, I discuss the difficulties I encountered in writing each of these texts.

Les ressources naturelles de Jania rubens, une algue calcaire benthique, sont insuffisantes pour leur utilisation à des fins industrielles. Des microthalles axéniques de cette Corallinacée sont utilisés pour déterminer les conditions optimales de production de biomasse. En cultures non agitées, les vitesses de croissance des microthalles axéniques sont de l'ordre de 4 mm par mois, contre 2 mm en milieu naturel. Une réduction du rapport Ca++/Mg++ du milieu ASP12 permet d’optimiser la régénération post-fragmentation et le rendement de production enzymatique de protoplastes. Une incubation à Ca++/Mg++ de 0,05 conduit à une décalcification partielle des thalles sans perte de viabilité. Nous montrons que les fragments de J. Rubens sont cultivables en suspension dans des photobioréacteurs sous agitation mécanique et/ou par bullage d'air. Les expérimentations en réacteurs à recyclage interne de biomasse établissent les relations entre intensité des flux lumineux, variations de l'alcalinité du milieu et valeurs des biomasses sèches finales (> 6 g. L-1). L'analyse des cinétiques de variations d'alcalinité montre qu'il existe un équilibre dynamique entre la libération de carbonate par la biomasse en suspension et la production photosynthétique de biomasse. Ceci permet de définir des seuils critiques, qui sont utilisés pour mettre en place un procédé de production de microthalles de J. Rubens en photobioréacteurs de 60 L et 300 L avec une alimentation de type fed-batch en bicarbonate et calcium. Les valeurs maximales de biomasse sèche et de productivité sont respectivement de 1,75 g. L-1et 0,1 g. L-1. J-1. Les données sont analysées sur le principe d’un fed-batch à volume constant
Natural resources of the benthic alga, Jania rubens, are not enough for industrial applications. Axenic microthalli are used to determine the optimal conditions for biomass production in closed photobioreactors. In unstirred cultures, the growth rate of axenic cultures are about 4 mm per month, against 2 mm per month in the nature. The decrease of the ratio Ca++/Mg++ in the ASP12 medium improve the regeneration of algal fragments and the protoplasts yield obtained by enzymatic digestion. When Ca++/Mg++ ratio is adjusted to 0. 05, the thalli are viable but partially decalcified. We show that Jania rubens can be cultivated as free microplantlets in mini-photobioreactors with mechanical stirring and/or air bubbling. The experimentations with biomass recycling reactors determine the relations between the light intensity, the alkalinity changes of the culture medium and the final biomass concentrations (> 6 g. L-1 DW). The analysis of the kinetics of alkalinity variations and the photosynthetic activities shows that there is a dynamic equilibrium between the processes of carbonatation and de-carbonatation in stirred cultures. As a result, critical thresholds are identified and used to improve the fed-batch production of J. Rubens microthalli in 60 L and 300 L photobioreactors. Maximal biomass and productivities are respectively 1. 75 g DW. L-1 and 0. 1 g DW. L-1. J-1. The data are analysed according the principle of a constant volume fed-batch culture

Cystoseira compressa et Jania adhaerens sont deux macro-algues marines de la mer méditerranée bien répandues le long des côtes Tunisiennes et non exploitées. Il ressort de cette étude que ces algues pourraient être utilisées comme une source d’ingrédients fonctionnels d’origine naturelle pour la production de burgers à base de chair de poissons d’eau douce (Barbus barbus). De plus, ces travaux ont conduit à l’obtention d’un fucoïdane (CCF) et un alginate de sodium (CCSA) comme polysaccharides matriciels de C. compressa. CCF (1,05 × 105 g/mol) est un hétérogalactofucane sulfaté (14,65 %) composé d’une chaîne principale de α-(1,3 ; 1,4)-l-Fucp ramifiée (31,84 %) en positions O-4 et O-3 par des monosaccharides terminaux et des chaînes latérales. CCSA (Mw = 1 × 105 g/mol) est composé de 56 % de α-l-GulA (G) et 44 % de β-d-ManA (M) (M/G = 0,77). Ce polyuronide est constitué de 93 % d’homoblocs (FGG = 53 % et FMM = 40 %) et de 6 % d’hétéroblocs (FMG = 3 % et FGM = 3 %). Les analyses rhéologiques et biologiques ont montré que CCF et CCSA présentent un comportement rhéofluidifiant ayant des propriétés de liquide visqueux avec des propriétés antioxydantes. Le polysaccharide issu de J. adhaerens (JSP) est un hétéroxylogalactane de Mw = 8,0 × 105 g/mol et est constitué de résidus disaccharidiques répétitifs de [→3)-β-d-Galp-(1,4)-α-l-Galp-(1→)]n et [(→3)-β-d-Galp-(1,4)-3,6-α-l-AnGalp-(1→)]n substitués principalement en position O-6 des résidus (1,3)-β-d-Galp et en positions O-2 et O-3 des résidus (1,4)-α-l-Galp par des T-β-d-Xylp, de groupements sulfate et/ou méthoxyle. Ce galactane sulfaté possède un comportement pseudoplastique typique d’un fluide viscoélastique, ayant des propriétés de gel faible
Cystoseira compressa and Jania adhaerens are two seaweeds widespread on the Tunisian coasts and were not exploited. They have been used as natural ingredients to produce new canned fish burgers prepared from minced fish of common barbel (Barbus barbus). In addition, this work led to the extraction of a fucoidan (CCF) and a sodium alginate (CCSA) as matrix polysaccharides of C. compressa. CCF (Mw=1.05 × 105 g/mol) was a sulfated (14.65%) heterogalactofucan composed of α-(1,3) and α-(1,4)-linked l-Fucp as main backbone, which could be branched (31.8%) in O-3 and O-4 positions by terminal monosaccharides and side chains. CCSA (Mw = 1 × 105 g/mol) was composed of 56% α-l-GulA (G) and 44% β-d-ManA (M) (M/G = 0.77). The CCSA linear backbone was constituted by 93% of homoblocks (FGG = 53% and FMM = 40%) and 6% of heteroblocks (FMG = 3% and FGM = 3%). Rheological and biological investigations showed that CCF and CCSA solutions exhibited shear-thinning and fluid-like viscoelastic behaviors with antioxidant properties. A sulfated xylogalactan-rich fraction (JSP) was extracted from J. adhaerens. JSP (Mw = 8.0 × 105 g/mol) was mainly constituted by the agaran disaccharidic repeating residues (→3)-β-d-Galp-(1,4)-α-l-Galp-(1→)n and (→3)-β-d-Galp-(1,4)-3,6-α-l-AnGalp-(1→)n mainly substituted on O-6 of (1,3)-β-d-Galp residues and in O-2 and O-3 positions of (1,4)-α-l-Galp residues by T-β-d-Xylp, methoxy and/or sulfate groups. JSP solutions displayed a shear-thinning behavior with a great viscoelasticity character, having weak gel properties

Abstract:
Parlay is an open standard that focuses on opening up the telecommunication networks for new services and new service providers. It encapsulates the underlying protocols and signaling layers and provides a framework for services so that the applications do not need to handle signaling and network related tasks. Parlay is also created to integrate the public telephone network with wireless and packet based networks. Java APIs for Integrated Networks (JAIN) is the Java implementation of the Parlay specification and includes a Java framework for network access and call control, among others. I have in this thesis used the Parlay and JAIN technology to design a Virtual Private Branch Exchange (VPBX), which is a software based system for the telecommunications domain. The VPBX provides functionality such as attendant control, routing and re-routing of calls, telephone queue handling and calls on hold. All use of the system is made from mobile phones, even the attendant client application is designed for a handheld device. I have in this thesis presented an architectural design for the VPBX and an evaluation of the design.

Esta dissertação tem por objetivo trazer a tona uma reflexão sobre a produção artística contemporânea em três artistas latino-americanas, especificamente Janine Antoni (Bahamas, 1962- ), Teresa Margolles (México,1963- ) e Dóris Salcedo (Colômbia 1958- ), artistas que procuram uma exploração da noção de corporalidade por meio da análise de alguns processos esculturais-objetuais em produções artísticas que parecem trabalhar de maneira a repetir ou sugerir fatos, embora evitam a representação realista e que têm um interesse como obra de protesto. As três artistas utilizam a presença corporal em sua relação com o real apresentado. A repetição ou impressão é o que retorna, não é o fato original, mas sim, à sua sombra, sua memória. É no encontro com ela que se produz no sujeito um estranhamento, uma ansiedade e angústia traumática que parecem permitir sair do cotidiano e cogitar outras possibilidades de viver no mundo. Os resultados revelam as obras como testemunhas de processos vivenciais que permitem uma revisão de diferentes estados da poética corporal envolvida com a problemática de índole política. Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to psychometrically evaluate the Revised Janis and Field Scale using the rasch model. The model is a measurement model often used to develop and improving composite measures. Quantitative content analysis was also used in the study. After the two analyses were conducted the problematic items were examined, where an interpretative perspective was applied to try to explain why some questions didn’t seem to work as intended. The other purpose of the study was to examine if emotional and cognitive components need to be treated as separate variables when studying self-esteem. The data collection was administrated at Karlstad University in April of 2014. In total 225 respondents participated in the survey, of whom 140 were women and 85 were men. Based on the rasch model, the instrument did not seem to measure self-esteem in an acceptable manner. There were also major problems with the content of the questions and how they were structured. It is concluded that the instrument should not be used for research purposes. Based on the analyses it was not possible to determine if it’s necessary to distinguish between emotional and cognitive components of self-esteem. It requires more analysis, based on more reliable instruments in the future.
Syftet med studien var att utvärdera mätinstrumentet Revised Janis and Field Scale med hjälp av psykometriska analyser baserat på raschmodellen. Raschmodellen är en mätmodell som används inom olika discipliner vid utveckling och granskning av mätinstrument. Därutöver genomfördes här även en kvantitativ innehållsanalys. När de två analyserna var genomförda granskades problematiska frågor, där ett tolkningsperspektiv anlades för att försöka förklara varför vissa frågor inte verkade fungera som avsett. Avsikten med studien var även att undersöka om emotionella och kognitiva beståndsdelar bör hanteras som separata variabler. Datainsamlingen ägde rum vid Karlstads universitet under april månad 2014. Totalt deltog 225 respondenter i undersökningen, 140 kvinnor respektive 85 män. Baserat på raschanalysen verkar inte instrumentet mäta självkänsla på ett godtagbart sätt. Därutöver finns problem med de ämnen som frågorna behandlar och hur frågorna samt svarsalternativen är formulerade. Bedömningen gjordes baserat på analyserna att instrumentet inte bör användas i vetenskapliga sammanhang. Avslutningsvis var det inte möjligt att bekräfta om det är nödvändigt att särskilja mellan emotionella och kognitiva beståndsdelar ur självkänslan utifrån de analyser som genomförts här. Det krävs att fler analyser genomförs i framtiden och att dessa bygger på mer stabila mätinstrument för att uppnå det syftet.

Abstract:
Le compositeur Jani Christou (1926-1970) constitue un des principaux témoins de la pensée musicale grecque du XXème siècle. L’intérêt pour nous est de montrer la diversité des compositions des dix dernières années de sa production, son style personnel et l’esthétique qui en ressort, ainsi que l’approche de pratiques d’expressions primitives (ritualisation, sacrifice) par le biais de la « métapraxis » et le rapport qui s’installe entre l’art et la métaphysique. Pour faire le lien nécessaire avec la période étudiée nous présentons les traits principaux de la vie du compositeur en donnant également les caractéristiques essentielles de ces compositions jusqu’à 1960. Ensuite nous analysons les œuvres majeures de la période qui nous intéresse (1960-1970) afin de montrer les techniques d’écriture et les idées extramusicales (très présentes chez Christou) qui régissent ses compositions. Notre but n’étant pas de faire une présentation de sa production, nous partageons notre corpus entre l’aspect musicologique et l’aspect esthétique (philosophique) du compositeur tout en le situant par rapport à son époque et à ses contemporains
The composer Jani Christou is considered as one of the most important representatives of the Greek musical production in the 20th century. It is very interesting to reveal the diversity of his compositions during the last ten years of his life, his personal style and the resultant aesthetics, as well as the way he approached the techniques of primitive expressions (ritualisation, sacrifice) through “metapraxis” and the relationship which is being established between art and metaphysics. In order to comprehend sufficiently the period in question, first of all we will present the main events that marked the composer’s life outlining at the same time the most essential characteristics of his compositions up to 1960. Afterwards, we will analyze his major works during the period that concerns us (1960-1970) in order to show the writing techniques and the extramusical ideas (very often in Jani Christou’s work) that influenced deeply his compositions. Since we’re not aiming to make a presentation of his musical production, our study will focus on the composer’s musicological and aesthetical points of view, while we will try simultaneously to place these elements in connection with his age and his contemporaries
