Abstract Tumor initiation and progression are the result of a close interplay between malignant cells and immune cells. While single-cell genomics has enabled the molecular dissection of the cellular heterogeneity underlying complex cancers, many facets of tumor microenvironments remain unresolved. In particular, the ontogeny of myeloid cells have not been fully understood in human tumors, although the source and expansion of macrophages have been suggested to underlie tumor development and metastasis in mice. Abstract Background: Although immune checkpoint inhibitors (CPIs) have revolutionized cancer treatment, resistance remains a challenge. Reduced interferon (IFN) signaling, immune escape and immunosuppressive tumor phenotypes have been proposed as resistance mechanisms, suggesting innate immune cell stimulation in the tumor microenvironment as a potential strategy to overcome resistance. Stimulator of Interferon Genes (STING) is a cytosolic protein critical for induction of type 1 IFN-dependent innate immunity. To address this gap, we focus on cancer-related social support networks. Social networks are the context in which resources and support are exchanged. Networks can exacerbate inequalities by amplifying differences in access to resources. We examined access to social support and composition of support networks among pediatric cancer caregivers to understand how social network dynamics differ by careg

The first part of the paper, drawing upon Bourdieu, argues that vegetarian “taste” is fundamentally a social practice linked to class and gender. It then offers a preliminary theoretical sketch of the sociological drivers and consequences of vegetarianism in late-modernity, drawing on social theory. Having es

IntroductionIn Britain, hunger is often hidden in the privacy of the home. Yet otherwise private hunger is currently being rendered public and visible in the growing queues at charity-run food banks, where emergency food parcels are distributed directly to those who cannot afford to feed themselves or their families adequately (Downing et al.; Caplan).
