In der Revision der Gattung Rhacocarpus (Frahm 1996) wurde vermerkt, daß ein Holotypus von Rhacocarpus purpurascens im Herbar Bridel (B) nicht vorhanden ist. Der Typus stammt von der Insel Reunion (“In caespiticibus humentibus et ad saxa basaltica madida in Planitie des Chicots Insulae Borbonicae hucusque tantum lectum est. Clar.
