His old master sergeant in the army became one of the arrangers for what was called the Glenn Miller Orchestra with Tex Beneke, and a job was found for him there, first as an occasional arranger and in the late 1940s as the band's rather underused pianist. He eventually grew close to Beneke band singer, Ginny O'Connor, who convinced Henry that they should quit the Beneke band to settle near Los Angeles, and that they should get married.
