Abstract:
The main features of the Grateful Dead’s long-term project were formed, in utero as it were, by 1958. This was Jerry Garcia’s annus mirabilis, the twelve short months between his fifteenth and sixteenth birthdays. During this blessed interval, he received his first guitar, smoked his first joint, took courses at the California School of Fine Arts, and read Jack Kerouac’s On the Road. By themselves, none of these events counts for much. Many baby boomers had similar experiences, and most haven’t been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But when we set these experiences against the larger cultural forces that were sweeping through San Francisco at the time, and when we consider their profound effect on Jerome John Garcia, they help us understand not only the Dead’s interest in ecstasy, mobility, and community, but also the source of the band’s sustained appeal.

Abstract:
AbstractAmong the many differing interpretations reported by St. Jerome is the set ascribed to "our Judaizers," who are in reality Christian interpreters with whom Jerome disagrees. In his own exegesis of the prophets, Jerome accepts both the literal/historical meaning of the "Hebrews" (Jews) as it relates to Israel's past (Old Testament history), and the spiritual/allegorical meaning of the church as it relates to the present or future. The interpretations that Jerome regards as "Judaizing" are almost all attempts to assign a literal meaning to the future. It is this combination (literal and future) that Jerome rejects as "Judaizing."

Abstract:
The publication in 1516 of Erasmus of Rotterdam’s New Testament and his edition of St. Jerome invites an exploration of his concept and deployment of this Church Father’s exegetical authority. A thorough analysis of Erasmus’s Annotations on the New Testament shows that he appealed to Jerome among other Fathers and on his own. Jerome figures primarily in the main business of the Annotations: the establishment of a correct Latin translation of the text of the New Testament. His role in the theological dimension of exegesis is secondary. Erasmus’s use of Jerome as authoritative support for his exegetical judgments as well as his criticisms of Jerome have the effect of asserting his credentials as an authoritative exegete.

Abstract:
AbstractCoastal-trapped waves (CTWs) in Jervis Bay were investigated using a Jervis Bay Ocean Model (JBOM), based on the Princeton Ocean Model. Under the typical temperature stratification in Jervis Bay in summer, the first three modes of external CTWs can scatter into the bay. The wind stress inside Jervis Bay can generate CTWs, and the wind stress on the adjacent shelf can also generate CTWs in the bay by oscillations at the bay's opening, which are associated with temperature fluctuations there. The actual subinertial CTWs in Jervis Bay are a result of the interference of these CTWs. The amplitudes of the first three CTW modes were calculated from the observed sea level data. Three numerical experiments were designed to identify the major forcing for the observed subinertial temperature oscillations in Jervis Bay during an observational program in the summer of 1988/89. It was found that the local wind stress was the major contributor to the observed oscillations.

Abstract:
The Jaria Pika Gas field is a domal anticlinal structure in the northeast of Iraq NW trending, about 3.6 km long and 1.9 km wide. The 55 m thick gas bearing Jeribe Formation is the main reservoir. This study intends to well log interpretation to determine the petrophysical properties of the Jeribe Formation in the Jaria Pika Gas Field. Total porosity, effect porosity, and secondary porosity have been calculated from neutron, density, and sonic logs. Porosity is fair to good in the Jeribe formation. From RHOB-NPHI and N/M cross plot, the Jeribe Formation is composed mainly of dolomite, limestone with nodules of anhydrite. The Fatha Formation contains considerable amounts of anhydrite layers, so it's represented the cap rocks for the Jeribe Reservoir which is recognized based on the reading of Gamma-ray log, Density log, Neutron log, and Sonic log. The Jaria Pika is considered as gas field as the Jeribe reservoir rocks are gas saturated ones.

Erasmus was a biographer not only of Jerome but, through four of his letters, of More also. The subject of ancestry is treated similarly by Erasmus writing of Jerome and by More writing of Pico. Erasmus stresses the training in rhetoric and letters, in languages, scriptural study, and patristics of both Jerome and More. The author explores the identification of writers with their subject, and then focuses on similar attitudes of Jerome, Erasmus, and More regarding the education of women and the dangers of heresy.

Abstract:
The mutual relationship between two contemporary Christian authors, Jerome and Ambrose, has been discussed by modern scholars with differences in the conclusions about it. Jerome referred frequently to Ambrose in his literary work, including those records in which he thought on him without mentioning his name. Ambrose's writings does not contain a single word about Jerome. The fact that only Jerome mentioned Ambrose and himself was not mentioned by Ambrose means that it is not possible to discuss the personal relationship between the two, but only Jerome's opinion on Ambrose's work or his attitude to Ambrose's personality. We may safely assume that in order to protect himself against charges of being a follower of Origen, Jerome quoted other church fathers who followed Origen in their work, among others Ambrose.

Abstract:
In this article, middle school science teacher Zachary Sconiers and university researcher Jerry Rosiek introduce the sonata-form case study, a narrative structure designed to document teachers' understandings of how subject matter and sociocultural influences intersect in the classroom. Written in collaboration with the Fresno Science Education Equity Teacher Research Project, this case study is told from the perspective of Jerome Jameson, a fictional chemistry teacher, whose story is based on Sconiers's actual teaching experiences. Also integrated into the narrative are Sconiers's in-depth reflections on the connections between his commitment to science education and his commitment to promoting educational equity. The sonata-form case study is followed by an afterword, written by Rosiek and Sconiers, that describes this unique methodology for teacher inquiry in full detail. The writing process for the case study was extensive and iterative: the two authors worked closely over the course of a year to develop the narrative, with Rosiek taking the lead on revising and editing. With this case study, Sconiers and Rosiek highlight the critical need for a new form of educational research, one that "builds bridges between the discourses of educational excellence and educational equity, as well as between theory and practice."

Abstract:
Jerome, like most of the early Christian exegetes (Origen, Didymus the Blind, Hilarius of Poitiers, Ambrose, Augustine), respected Philo of Alexandria as a specialist in the field of spiritual exegesis of the Old Testament and called him vir doctissimus Iudaeorum. In his letters and biblical commentaries Jerome used the knowledge on the liturgical vestments of the high priest and their symbolism that can be found in the writings of Philo. However, Jerome probably didn’t use directly his biblical commentaries, but took their content through the works of Origen, in which Philo's ideas have been christianized. The admiration for the person and work of Philo, which can be compared only to that showed in the East by Didymus the Blind, resulted in St. Jerome a certain lack of criticism. In De viris inlustribus Jerome too hastily considered Philo as a thinker deserved for the development of Christianity and attributed to him the works of which he was not the author.

Abstract:
During the revision of the earlier translation of the Book of Jonah St Jerome changed the name of the fast-growing plant referred to in the story. In his version it is ivy that sprang up and perished in a day instead of gourd. St Augustine (Bishop of Hippo) wrote a letter to St Jerome expressing his discontent about the ivy-version. According to his argumentation disturbance broke out among the Greek and Roman Christian communities in the city of Oia as a result of the differences of the translations: the Greeks used the version of Septuaginta (gourd), while the Romans used the new St Jerome-translation (ivy). In his response St Jerome rejects St Augustine’s criticism and explains what his reason was for his departure from the customary text. The paper tries to illustrate that St Jerome, who knew the plant properly, favoured the Latin-speaking communities of Europe, when he inserted the word ivy into the text.

Abstract:
The study includes petrographic and stratigraphical chraractrstic of the lower-middle Miocene sequence at selected wells from Jambur and Khabaz oilfields. Four hundred and sixty thin section from Jeribe, Serikagni, Euphrates, Dhiban, Anah and Azkand formations in four wells from Jambur and Khabaz oilfields are studied. The stratigraphic study indicates that contact between Jeribe and Faꞌtha formations, Jeribe and Dhiban formations are unconformable in all wells under study, while the contact between Jeribe and Anah, Anah and Azkand, Euphrates and Serikagni formations are conformable. The petrographic study reveals that most of the studied formations are limestone rich in benthonic foraminifera especially in Jeribe and Anah formations, with low percentage of planktonic foraminifera such as Globigerina species in Serikagni and Azkand formations. Additionally, echinoids, coral algae, ostracoda and intraclast remains are present. Non-skeletal component such as, pellets and ooids are rare in Euphrates Formation. Microfacies analysis shows the presence of several microfacies distributed in the studied formations. The environments of lower-Middle Miocene formations have been concluded from petrography and microfacies studies. Jeribe Formation was deposited in lagoonal or semi lagoonal environment, while Serikagni and Euphrates formations were deposited in deep marine environment and shallow open lagoon environment respectively. Closed lagoonal environment is assigned for deposition of Dhiban Formation, while slope and reef environment is recognized for the Azkand Formation and tidal and supratidal with reef marine tropical environment for the Anah Formation. http://dx.doi.org/10.25130/tjps.23.2018.169

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to develop an ultraperformance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) method to assess the concentration of jervine in rat plasma and its pharmacokinetics. Diazepam was used as internal standard (IS). The chromatographic separation of jervine and IS was carried out on an UPLC BEH C18 column (2.1 mm × 50 mm, 1.7 μm) with a flow rate of 0.4 mL/min. A mixture of acetonitrile and water (0.1% formic acid) was used as a mobile phase. The UPLC-MS/MS was equipped with an electrospray ionization (ESI), adopting multiple reactive monitoring mode to determine jervine in rat plasma. The retention times of jervine and the internal standard were 1.71 and 2.13 min, respectively. The calibration curve of jervine ranged between 1 and 1000 ng/mL. The lower limit of quantitation (LLOQ) was 1 ng/mL, and the lower limit of determination (LLOD) was 0.2 ng/mL. The accuracy was ±6%; the interday precision and intraday precision were no more than 9%. The recovery was higher than 90.3%, and the matrix effect was lower than 10%. The UPLC-MS/MS method was successfully developed and used for the application of the pharmacokinetic study. The primary pharmacokinetic parameters of jervine in this study were as follows: the AUC(0–∞) was 969.3 ± 277.7 ng/mL·h, the Cmax was 506.6 ± 192.8 ng/mL, the CL/F was 1.7 ± 0.5 L/h/kg, and the t1/2 was 3.4 ± 1.2 h.

Abstract:
Following Milton Babbitt's untimely death at the age of 94 (death at any age is untimely, since it unties the time dimension) in January 2011, I was interested in finding out more about his relationship, personal and music-theoretical, with the US information science community during and after the Eisenhower years. The musical avant-garde represented in parody by Babbitt and Cage as two poles of an antithesis sprang into life in the Cold War era at the same time as Scientology, MAD and Playboy magazine. Today the US doyen of priapism is ready to admit that even the best formula for a creative life has its natural limits. I wanted to ask Joseph Straus and Jerry Kohl what they thought of Babbitt's influence in the wider context of cognitive linguistics. In addition to positioning Babbitt as a significant influence on the Russian composer's serial music in the instructive Stravinsky's Late Music (Cambridge University Press, 2001), Joseph Straus is co-editor (with Stephen Dembski) of Babbitt's Words about Music. Jerome Kohl is a fellow Stockhausen enthusiast and distinguished former editor of Perspectives of New Music, a periodical set up in the 1960s to assert US authority in new musical theory and practice by an editorial board including Babbitt and graced by a logo in honour of serial music devised by Stravinsky himself.

Abstract:
Jerome translated the Hebrew Bible into Latin over a decade and a half beginning in about 390c.e.With each translation he included a preface dedicating (in most cases) the translation to a friend or patron and defending his reliance on what he called thehebraica veritas (Hebrew truth)against his many detractors. This last feature of the prefaces proved necessary because by choosing the Hebrew text of the Old Testament as his base text, Jerome directly challenged the traditional position of the Septuagint within the church. The unpopularity of this move in some circles compelled Jerome repeatedly to justify his adherence to the Hebrew text. Similarly, in hisPreface to Samuel and Kings(the “Helmeted Preface” orPrologus galeatus) he famously advocated the Hebrew canon as the Christian Old Testament and relegated all other books to the apocrypha. As part of this latter category, Jerome named six books outside the Jewish canon that were finding acceptance as fully canonical in some quarters and would much later receive the label “deuterocanonical,” these books being Tobit, Judith, Wisdom of Solomon, Sirach, and 1 and 2 Maccabees. In multiple ways Jerome sought to restore the Christian Old Testament to what he considered the original Hebrew text and canon.

Abstract:
Restricted gene flow and reproductive philopatry are increasingly being described in marine predators such as sharks. However, observing shark reproductive behaviour in situ is problematic because of issues associated with sampling in the marine environment. As such, molecular tools have become fundamental to unravelling complex mating behaviours. In this study, we examined patterns of genetic structure in the oviparous Port Jackson shark (Heterodontus portusjacksoni) using 10 microsatellite loci and the mitochondrial (mt)DNA control region. Patterns of genetic structure were investigated between breeding aggregations in Sydney and Jervis Bay, as well as between two sites within Jervis Bay. Significant genetic differentiation was detected between Sydney and Jervis Bay using mtDNA, but no structure was observed within Jervis Bay. No significant genetic differentiation was found with microsatellites within or between aggregations. Mean assignment index values were significantly higher for females than males in Jervis Bay, but not in Sydney. Both females and males migrate inshore during the Austral winter for breeding, but it appears females may exhibit higher levels of reproductive philopatry than males. This is the first study to document reproductive philopatry in an oviparous shark, highlighting the importance of conserving and appropriately managing breeding sites for H. portusjacksoni and potentially other oviparous shark species.

Conti, Brooke. "Milton, Jerome, and Apocalyptic Virginity." Renaissance Quarterly 72, no. 1 (2019): 194–230. http://dx.doi.org/10.1017/rqx.2018.3.

Abstract:
Milton's youthful interest in virginity is usually regarded as a private eccentricity abandoned on his maturation. His “Mask” is often read, analogously, as charting the Lady's movement from temporary virginity to wedded chastity. This essay challenges those claims, arguing that Milton's understanding of virginity's poetic and apocalyptic powers comes from Saint Jerome, whose ideas he struggles with throughout his career. Reading “A Mask” alongside Jerome suggests that Milton endorses the apocalyptic potential of virginity without necessarily assigning those powers to the Lady herself. In later works, Milton modifies and adapts Jerome before finally producing the perfect eremitic hero of “Paradise Regain'd.”

Abstract:
AbstractWillem Vorsterman was a leading printer in Antwerp in the first half of the sixteenth century. He printed two anthologies of the letters of St. Jerome, one in 1515, the other in 1533. These deserve attention in connection with Erasmus of Rotterdam, the renowned humanist champion and editor of Jerome. In its preface, the first anthology takes up the cause of humanist theology and invokes Erasmus' authority on the eve of his celebrated edition of Jerome. His name adds value to the anthology. The second anthology does not refer to Erasmus at all; nevertheless it yields traces of his editorial influence.

Abstract:
Mansuriya Gas field is an elongated anticlinal structure aligned from NW to SE, about 25 km long and 5-6 km wide. Jeribe formation is considered the main reservoir where it contains condensate fluid and has a uniform thickness of about 60 m. The reservoir is significantly over-pressured, (TPOC, 2014). This research is about well logs analysis, which involves the determination of Archie petrophysical parameters, water saturation, porosity, permeability and lithology. The interpretations and cross plots are done using Interactive Petrophysics (IP) V3.5 software. The rock parameters (a, m and n) values are important in determining the water saturation where (m) can be calculated by plotting the porosity from core and the formation factor from core on logarithmic scale for both and the slope which represent (m) then Pickett plot method is used to determine the other parameters after calculating Rw from water analysis . The Matrix Identification (MID), M-N and Density-Neutron crossplots indicates that the lithology of Jeribe Formation consists of dolomite, limestone with some anhydrite also gas-trend is clear in the Jeribe Formation. The main reservoir, Jeribe Formation carbonate, is subdivided into 8 zones namely J1 to J8, based mainly on porosity log (RHOB and NPHI) trend, DT trend and saturation trend. Jeribe formation was considered to be clean in terms of shale content .The higher gamma ray because of the uranium component which is often associated with dolomitisationl and when it is removed and only comprises the thorium and potassium-40 contributions, showed the gamma response to be low compared to the total gamma ray response that also contains the uranium contribution. While the Jeribe formation is considered to be clean in terms of shale content so the total porosity is equal to the effective porosity. No porosity cut off is found if cutoff permeability 0.01 md is applied while the porosity cut off approximately equal to 0.1 only for unit J6 & J8 if cutoff permeability 0.1 md is applied . It can be concluded that no saturation cutoff for the units of Jeribe formation is found after a cross plot between water saturation and log porosity for the reservoir units of Jeribe formation and applied the calculated cut off porosity. The permeability has been predicted using two methods: FZI and Classical, the two methods yield approximately the same results for all wells.

Abstract:
In his Commentarium in Hieremiam, as well as in other contemporary works, Jerome accuses Pelagius of conducting a defamatory campaign against him by accusing him of Origenism, contempt for marriage (regarding such charges Jerome had already needed to defend himself!) and more generally, of wishing others ill. Did Jerome really seek to discredit his adversary, or were such accusations even circulating? This paper takes into consideration Pelagius’s surviving works and intends to give – within the limits admitted by the sources – an answer to this question, coming to the conclusion that the conflict between the two writers was not lacking in personal attacks, and that Jerome’s report is thus trustworthy.

Abstract:
A numerical simulation of the East Australian Current (EAC) has been used to investigate the nutrification of shelf waters at Jervis Bay, south-eastern Australia, prior to the massive coccolithophorid bloom that was first observed on 16 December 1992. The simulation suggests that a small cold-core eddy developed between the continental slope at Jervis Bay and the EAC jet further offshore during 7 and 14 December 1992. This unstable cold-core eddy is likely to have uplifted cold, nutrient-rich water onto the Jervis Bay shelf, and this upwelling, in combination with upwelling-favourable winds, probably transported nutrients from the deep ocean to the entrance of the bay.

Abstract:
Mansuriya Gas field is an elongated anticlinal structure aligned from NW to SE about 25km long and 5-6 km wide. The Jeribe formation considered the main reservoir, contains gascondensate fluid, has a uniform thickness about 60 m. The reservoir is significantly overpressured. In this study, the 3D geological model for Jeribe Formation in Mansuriya Gas Field is setupby using Petrel. Jeribe Formation represents the most important reservoir in MansuriyaGas Field. Four vertical wells (Mn-1, Mn-2, Mn-3 and Mn-4) were drilled in MansuriyaGas Field and used to set-up water saturation and porosity models represented by a 3Dstatic geological model in three dimensions. The main reservoir, Jeribe Formationcarbonate, is subdivided into 8 zones namely J1 to J8, according mainly to porosity log(RHOB and NPHI) trend, DT trend and saturation trend. Petrophysical model (porosity andwater saturation) for Jeribe Formation was set-up from values of porosity and watersaturation using Sequential Gaussian Simulation algorithm. According to data analyses andthe results from modeling the units (J1, J3, J4, J5, J6 and J8) are considered as high-qualityreservoir units due to the high PHIE, low water saturation and no shale content. Units (J2and J7) are considered as non-pay units because of very high-water saturation. Crosssections of petrophysical model were conducted to show the vertical and horizontaldistribution of porosity and water saturation between wells in the field.
