Abstract:
The paper analyzes the novel “Th e Last Prophet” by Leonid Mosendz focusing on its sources, the genre nature and structure, and the genesis of John the Baptist’s image. There were objective and individual reasons for Mosendz’s appeal to the biblical myth of John the Baptist, which have been explained. Attention is drawn to problematic areas in the interpretation of the novel by Mosendz’s critics. Among the sources that the writer turned to while working on the novel were “Jewish Antiquties” by Josephus Flavius, “The Life of Jesus” by Ernest Renan, and “Christ Unknown” by Dmitry Merezhkovsky. The traces of these books are recognizable in the text of Mosendz’s novel. “The Last Prophet” combines the elements of several genres, the most important of which are three: apocryphal, historical, and didactic. Mosendz’s work has a complex multifaceted structure. Th e novel’s three parts have their parallels with the biblical text: the Old Testament poetic model corresponds to the first part, the biographical model of the Gospels to the second, and the historical model of the Acts of the Apostles to the third. Special attention is paid to the connection of the novel to the literary biography of Joan the Baptist, an iconic figure in the European tradition. The interpretation of this image by the author is peculiar and unique to European literature. Thus, Mosendz’s “The Last Prophet” is a lengthy multifaceted epic story about John the Baptist, based on historical sources and religious texts and reproduced at high ideological and literary levels.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to two engravings depicting Jesus Christ and the Mother of God in lush ornamental cartouches. They are well known to Serbian art critics and are published in the catalogs of Serbian metal engravings of the 18th century. Copper engraved boards of these engravings, which Serbian researchers attribute to the end of the 18th or the beginning of the 19th century, are preserved in the Krka Monastery. Prints from them of the 18th-19th centuries are unknown in Serbian collections. In Serbia, the first prints from these boards were made in the 20th century. However, prints from these engravings were well known in Russia in the 17th-18th centuries. They were primarily used as illustrations in Russian manuscript books. The engravings were made by a Russian master at the end of the 17th century. According to the features of engraving, manner, and stylistics, they can be attributed to Moscow engraver Leonty Bunin. In Russian manuscripts, they were usually used as illustrations in the book The Passion of Christ along with the 14-sheet series The Passion of Christ by Leonty Bunin. Cases of using them as independent illustrations are known. In the 1730s, these engravings disappeared from the illustrations in The Passion of Christ series in Russian manuscript books. Their later prints are unknown in Russia. The history of their appearance in Serbia, in the Krka Monastery, remains unknown. Perhaps they appeared there as gifts from Russia which the monastery regularly received. In the 18th century, Serbian religious art experienced a powerful influence from Dutch graphics. As iconographic sources, Serbian masters used Flemish and Dutch engravings of the 16th and 17th centuries. They were the same ones that were used by Russian masters of the 17th century, especially of the second half of the century, as iconographic examples. The identity of the artistic processes that took place in the art of Serbia in the 18th century and Russia of the 17th century turned out to be so close that Serbian art historians regarded the Russian prints of the 17th century by Leonty Bunin as Serbian works of an unknown engraver of the late 17th - early 19th centuries. The biography of Leonty Bunin is considered in detail in the article, some facts of his life are presented for the first time.

Abstract:
The article presents a brief biography of the little-studied British deist Thomas Chubb (1679-1747) and a reconstruction of his ideas about capabilities of human mind. The goal of this article is to study the religious philosophy of T. Chubb that Russian studies does not distinguish from ideas of other deists. That is why the idea of the phenomenon of deism is still less clear in relation to foreign studies. The article analyzes and presents Chubbs concepts about the independence of religious truths from human perception, that are presented in «Discourse concerning Reason, with Regard to Religion and Divine Revelation» (1733) and «An Enquiry into the Ground and Foundation of Religion». The article documents that the English philosopher formulated three "author's" truths of natural religion: there is an initial difference between objects, independent of human perception; this distinction is the basis for human behavior; God made these foundations a moral rule for all people and for himself. The work identifies and analyzes the definition of the phenomenon of "deism" in Chubb's treatises, as well as an assessment of his philosophy in the context of this definition – the natural religion of reason or belief and just and sense of a Deity impressed upon the mind, and is the governing principle of a man’s-affections and actions. The correlation of the ideas of Thomas Chubb and Matthew Tindal is analyzed. At the end of the article, a brief conclusion is made about the place of T. Chubbs philosophy to deism in general. The author of this work believes that despite the absence of references to other deists by the English philosopher, the ideas of this thinker fit into their religious and philosophical system, specifically about the issue of understanding natural religion. The sources of this article are treaties «The Sufficiency of Reason in Matters of Religion, Farther Considered» (1732), «Discourse concerning Reason, with Regard to Religion and Divine Revelation» (1733), «Some reflections upon the comparative excellency and usefulness of moral and positive duties» (1733), «The true Gospel of Jesus Christ Asserted»(1741) and several other treatises.

Abstract:
Introduction. The article presents the caves of Ust-Medveditsky St. Saviour convent in Volgograd region. The relevance of the research issue is in improving the recreational potential of the subject under study. The novelty of the work is in explaining the meaning of cave complex elements and the iconic stone with the image of knee and palm prints. The aim of the work is to study the history of creating the sacred space in the caves of Ust-Medveditsky convent. Herewith the work covers the following issues: 1) considering the history of creating caves by hegumeness Arseniya (Sebryakova); 2) clarification of the semantic meaning of some architectural elements in the cave complex in the context of creating the sacred space in the New Jerusalem of the Don region; 3) recommendations for developing the esthetical component of the caves, which increases the recreational potential for using the caves. Methods. In order to achieve the goals the author uses the structuralsemantic method, which allows to reveal the meaning of separate architectural elements in the caves in the structure of the cave complex. The system-based culturological method and the historical archaeological approach are used to understand the uniqueness of the object against the historical background of the dominating culture. The sources used to fulfill the objective include material ones such as architectural elements of the caves, written ones such as piligrimages, travellers’ notes about visits to the Holy Land, the biography of hegumeness Arseniya (Sebryakova). Analysis and Results. The caves under consideration were created in the second half of the 19th century by hegumeness Arseniya (Sebryakova). There was a sacred space of the Holy Land reconstructed: “Stations of the Cross” and “Sorrowful Way of the Holy Mother”. The stone with the image of knee and palm prints symbolizes the place where the Christ fell down after being arrested. Premise no. 8 with a step can symbolize the Holy Sepulcher with the tomb of Jesus. To improve the recreational potential of Ust- Medveditsky convent it is necessary to control microclimatic conditions, support the cave surface natural stone relief and colour, decorate the key sacred spaces with thematic icons.

Paul never feels the necessity to state ‘Jesus is the Christ’; a genitive is never added (Paul does not use χριτòς κυριου or related expressions) and also Ίηιοṽςò Χριιτóς is not found.6

Abstract:
Abstract This article considers that the Gospel genre belongs to the category of ancient biography designed to provide the reader and hearer with a pattern to imitate. The literary and cultural ethos of the formative period of early Christianity prepared the first disciples to "imitate Christ" whenever the Gospels were liturgically read. In fact, the ethical instructions "walk as he walked," "imitate Christ," or even "follow me" required a narrative definition. So the imitatio Christi provided a significant impulse for the writing of the Gospels, and concomitantly, the Gospels provided the narrative definition for what it meant to follow Jesus.

Abstract:
AbstractSwami Vivekananda was the most influential pioneer of a Yogi Christ, illustrating well over a century ago how the life and teachings of Jesus might be incorporated within a larger Hindu worldview—and then presented back to Western audiences. Appropriation of Jesus, one of the central symbols of the West, might be viewed as the ultimate act of counter-Orientalism. This article begins by providing a brief biography of Vivekananda and the modern Hinduism that nurtured him and that he propagated. He articulated an inclusivist vision of Advaita Vedanta as the most compelling vision of universal religion. Next, the article turns to Vivekananda's views of Christianity, for which he had little affection, and the Bible, which he knew extraordinarily well. The article then systematically explores Vivekananda's engagement with the New Testament, revealing a clear hermeneutical preference for the Gospels, particularly John. Following the lead of biblical scholars, Vivekananda made a distinction between the Christ of the Gospels and the Jesus of history, offering sometimes contradictory conclusions about the historicity of elements associated with Jesus's life. Finally, the article provides a detailed articulation of Vivekananda's Jesus—a figure at once familiar to Christians but, in significant ways, uniquely accommodated to Hindu metaphysics. Vivekananda demonstrated a robust understanding and discriminating use of the Christian Bible that has not been properly recognized. He deployed this knowledge to launch an important and long-lived pattern: an attractive, fleshed out depiction of Jesus of Nazareth, transformed from the Christian savior into a Yogi model of self-realization. Through his efforts, Jesus became an indisputably Indian religious figure, no longer just a Christian one. The Yogi Christ remains a prominent global religious figure familiar to Hindus, Christians, and those of other faiths alike.

Abstract:
Abstract Islam and Christianity share much in common but also much that is different. The evidence of interactions between them go right back to the origins of Islam in the seventh century. In early Muslim traditions, Jesus was largely presented as an ascetic, whereas their prophet Muhammad was presented as a political and military ruler; Christianity as a quietist faith and Islam as conquering faith-polity. These early traditions possibly informed the rather oppositional South Asian debates of the nineteenth century. We know that the Muslim conceptions of Jesus have been changing over time. To what extent has the image of Muhammad among Christians changed over time is also a relevant question. Muhammad and Christ were unquestionably often the focal points of the Christian Muslim debates in the nineteenth and the early twentieth century South Asia. Preliminary enquiry of sources suggest that Christians largely looked at Christ and Muhammad as fundamentally opposing characters belonging to different domains; their Muslim counterparts attempted to argue that Muhammad and Christ had much in common and, that Muhammad was in fact the very fulfilment of Christ’s own prophecy. This paper digs both into Muslim (religious doctors) and Christian (missionaries/converts) sources: i. to bring to light a new context of debates (South Asia) on Christ and Muhammad; ii. To examine how Jesus and Muhammad were portrayed in these debates and; iii. To what extent, this South Asian evidence on how Jesus and Muhammad are seen aligns with what we know from writings about them from the Middle Eastern context?

Abstract:
The Old and New Testaments are the primary sources of understanding the identity and work of Jesus Christ. There was a consensus from commentators that the combination of the Lion and the Lamb as a double metaphor for Jesus Christ in Revelation 5:5-6 is one of the complex texts and was also crucial to being able to understand the entire book of Revelation. Restrospectively this section has presented multi-interpretation so that it also affects the theological and practical understanding of interpreters. This article will approach the metaphorical combination in Revelation 5:5-6 biblically primarily by dividing the interpretation steps in accordance with the NT use of the OT. This point in the book of Revelation is related to the identity and work of Jesus Christ in order to carry out the divine dual mission: judgment and salvation, to establish the kingdom of God on earth through love and not through violence.

Abstract:
The author analyses Jesus’ baptism in Jordan, looking for its parallel in the Christian baptism. He begins by acknowledging the historicity of Jesus’ baptism and reflects on the meaning of the baptism of John by juxtaposing it with similar rites described in the Old Testament texts, in Second Temple Jewish literature, and in rabbinical sources. Then he analyses the meaning of Jesus’ baptism, criticizing the historical-critical interpretations that separate the scene of baptism from the theophany that follows it. According to the author, such an operation is unfounded due to the nature of ancient texts and the literary and thematic continuity between baptism and theophany in the synoptic Gospels. Further, the author presents arguments demonstrating that Jesus comes to Jordan already aware of his identity and mission, which the Father’s voice announces to others and objectivizes. In the last step, it is argued that Jesus’ baptism in Jordan together with the Lord’s death and resurrection could have been a point of reference for the early Christian understanding of baptism connected with the gift of the Spirit, with the filial dignity and the “Abba” prayer and with the inheritance of heaven. All these elements can be found in Rom 8:14-17,23 which describes the new life of those baptized in Christ.

Abstract:
The Bible records differences in the formula of baptism. As Jesus taught in Matthew 28:19, those who believe should be baptized in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Meanwhile, in some parts of the Bible, the disciples command every believer to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. This study tries to describe the formula of baptism taught by Jesus. It is a descriptive research and used the Bible, books, and journals as the main sources. It is concluded that the formula of baptism in the name of Jesus does not contradict His teachings. However, because Jesus Himself taught that baptism must be in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, in practice, it is better to use the formula He had taught.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is that everyone is involved in implementing the Great Commission of Jesus Christ so that church growth occurs. The harvest is a lot but the workers are few, this is the Word of our Lord Jesus Christ. To produce a harvest of souls that are won for Christ, the Great Commission in Matthew 28:18-20 must be carried out namely “Go” (Preach) and Make disciples (Discipleship). Evangelism is the first step as a disciple. And being a disciple is an activity that aims to motivate and train spiritually mature believers to devote themselves wholeheartedly to God in order to become disciples. Evangelism and discipleship are one and cannot be separated. Evangelism is the first step as a disciple. If every church and its members carry out this great commission well, it will bring many people to come to Christ and this has an impact on the growth of the church. The book of Matthew was originally addressed to early Christians but God's Word is still relevant in every age, because the essence of the Word always directs everyone to believe Jesus is the savior of mankind. This study uses a qualitative method, by collecting data and information from various library sources such as the Bible, spiritual books and journals which are concluded and used in this research so as to lead everyone to carry out the Great Commission so that the church can grow well.

The purpose of this study is to find out the causes of the crisis of love found in the community of Christ's followers today. Nowadays, it is found that the lives of most of the believers who in fact profess to be followers of Christ, but in fact show the value of life that is contrary to their confession of faith, whereas Christianity is identical with love and care based on a high impulse of compassion towards others as a form of service. The real. Because, if the basis of Christianity is no longer love as has been taught and demonstrated by Jesus Christ during his presence and ministry on earth, of course it is an irony. The research approach method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection through various sources such as the Bible and other literature, interviews, and other sources that are related to the topic of study. The result: first, the purpose of life for some followers of Christ is not to exalt Christ, but rather for their own sake. Second, the value of the life that some followers of Christ live is not different from the value of the life of people in the world (outside of Christianity).

Abstract:
Beside the motif of death, the motifs connected to pregnancy, delivery and childhood are the most often motifs depicted in Christian iconography in general. They indicate the importance of terrestrial life and living among people of the main Biblical characters: Jesus Christ, the Mother of God and St. John the Baptist. Presenting the key moments of any human life, starting from conception, pregnancy and delivery, maternity and childhood, all the way to death, these iconographic themes try to stress out the double nature of given characters, both divine and humane. The first iconographic presentations of these Biblical events in Vojvodina belong to biography (fresco painting) of the Fruska Gora mountain monasteries. In the middle of the 18th century, in Vojvodina, as well as in all other Austrian countries where the Serbs lived, some artists, who marked the beginning of a new baroque period, appeared. This research raised a question: how is it possible to find biological-medical content in dogmatic, theological teachings of the Bible characters, predominantly the Mother of God and Jesus Christ and events related to them, which were described in Bible and artistically depicted in sacral iconography? The sacral works of art in Vojvodina were analyzed in this research from this aspect. The themes were systematized and, with respect to all religious dogmas, some biologicalmedical and physiological elements in events of these characters' lives were classified into seven thematic groups.

Abstract:
Chapters 16–17 of Testament of Levi ( T. Levi) preserve two examples for the creative reinterpretation of ancient Jewish chronologies in early Christianity. In T. Levi 16, the seventy weeks chronology from Dan. 9 is read as an announcement of Jesus' crucifixion and the destruction of the Second Temple. T. Levi 17, on the other hand, preserves an older Jewish source on the decline of the priesthood. This source was originally composed as a response to the deposition of Onias III (173 BCE) and later expanded through the addition of vv. 9-11 responding to the investment of Jonathan as high priest (152 BCE). For the Christian author of T. Levi 17, the original chronological implications of his source were no longer relevant. He incorporated it for purely theological reasons, namely, as a demonstration for the complete failure of the Jewish priesthood and its subsequent replacement by the eschatological high priest Jesus Christ ( T. Levi 18).

Abstract:
Paradise Lost has become a controversial epic in misrepresenting characters especially among pious critics and religious scholars. Based on applying the deconstruction theory analysis on Paradise Lost, this paper discusses three main purposes about the Miltonic exaggerations in Paradise Lost: the infringement of God divinity, the high power position of Jesus Christ, and Oliver Cromwell; as the intended symbolic political figure by Milton. In fact, the Bible and the Holy Quran are considered two main sources to the paradise story, so they apparently deconstruct the Miltonic thoughts in this epic poem. According to deconstructionism in Paradise Lost, Milton consecrated the ideology of the Trinity concept which is not explicitly mentioned in the New Testament. He also exceeded the reasonable limitation of divinity by ignoring the role of the Great God and overstating the role of Jesus Christ as the whole mercy and justices. In addition, Milton came out with Paradise Lost after Oliver Cromwell’s death in order to express his grief about Oliver Cromwell and the Commonwealth fall as well.

Abstract:
Christological discourse holds a central place in the wider theological discourse due to the centrality of the doctrine of Christ in the establishment of the Christian message. This in effect places integral value on the task of Christological formulation if at all we intend to stabilize Christian theology. The core of the Christian message is inherent in the ministry, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In as much as the primary sources of Christology remains the biblical narrative, there is a significant urge for theological practitioners to supplement the biblical narrative with a well-researched historical account of the life of Christ beyond the confines of the scripture to verify authenticity and historicity of the biblical account. This calls for an industrious effort of theologians to engage historical data as an indication of the existence of Christ. Our study seeks to undertake this task and contribute to Historical and Christology scholarship by addressing the question of the historical quest of Christ. To accomplish this task, our approach will be centred on pagan testimonies, Jewish testimonies, and historical evidences from materials outside the biblical sphere. A negligence of addressing these concepts may subject the Christian narrative to massive objection in our day and age.

The first biography of Teresa of Annunciation (1658-1738), a famous Poor Clare of the Monastery of Nossa Senhora da Esperança in Ponta Delgada, is recognised as a major source in the crystallisation of the opinion of virtue of the biographee and in the promotion of the cult of the Holy Christ,of which she was the most impressive promoter. Symptomatically nicknamed the “Book of the Holy Christ”, this copy of the devotional biography, signed by the oratorian José Clemente and published in 1763, may be understood as part of the process of canonical authorisation of the nun’s holiness, although it should itself be seen as the result of a constructive process in which various intentions, wills, mentors and actors took part. It is this process which, based essentially on unpublished sources, namely the epistolary correspondence exchanged between the 4th Countess of Ribeira Grande and some nuns from the Monastery of Esperança, the present study intends to examine, and which lastly aims to contribute to the analysis of the figure of the illustrious mother and the expressions of piety that have always been associated with her.

Abstract:
Jesus asked his disciples, saying, “Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?” (Matt. 16:13, Mark. 8:27), then John the Baptist was the top answer, followed by Elijah, Jeremiah. This study uses a biblical study of the meaning of the whom do men say (general opinion) by using a qualitative writing method that is studied by biblical exegesis supported by various sources related to this research. Here it is found that public opinion greatly influences one's personal belief and confession of their faith in Jesus Christ. There is a meaning behind the rejection of Jesus' messiahship by carrying the popular John the Baptist figure. Perhaps if he announced himself as the Messiah, and waged a rebellion against the Roman empire which was colonizing Israelit at that time, it would be inconceivable if that happened. Researchers found the answer that the importance of personal spiritual experience closely with God between times when the truth became unpopular. By adhering to the Word of God, the Church of God can stand firm which is built on a solid rock foundation (Petra), namely Jesus Himself.

The death of a child is one of the most stressful events that a parent can experience. For a bereaved parent, the child's death represents an experience that involves separation and loss, feelings of failure and guilt, and an undermining of basic beliefs. Yet, for the Christian, it is suggested that five important sources of comfort are available to the bereaved parent: (a) faith in a good and powerful God, (b) knowledge of God's Word, (c) relationship with Jesus Christ, (d) an indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and (e) a fellowship of believers. Through these sources of comfort, a bereaved parent can profit by the Christian faith, although some potential risks in implementing the faith are present.

The suffering of those who have believed in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, served God's work and continued to try to live a godly life, is seen by some believers as an anomaly. The aim of this research is to find out whether the suffering of believers is an anomaly or is it natural. How believers suffer should be viewed based on Philippians 1: 27-29. This research uses descriptive qualitative research, with a literature analysis method approach and narrative interpretation, by collecting data through biblical sources, books, journals, digital articles, interviews and other documents related to the issues being studied. First, suffering for believers is not an option but a necessity because suffering is package with faith. Second, suffering for believers is part of the struggle for faith. Third, suffering for believers is a gift from God to be grateful for and enjoy. In conclusion, even though suffering is unpleasant, every believer must accept it as part of God's calling. Because Jesus Christ himself did not call anyone by giving the sweet promise of life without problems, but has confirmed that anyone who wants to follow Him is obliged to carry the cross which is identical with suffering.

Abstract:
The focus of this research is to recognize and understand the history of the Pontianak Archdiocese Church in the course of Church history. Many people do not know the history of the Pontianak Archdiocese. However, the splendor of the Pontianak Archdiocese Church is well known, even abroad, especially in the Vatican Rome. In this study, the researcher used a qualitative methodology with a literature study approach regarding the Influence of Church History in the History of the Pontianak Archdiocese and current developments. Researchers used book sources, journal sources, and internet sources. History is an event and events that really happened in the past. The church is an association of people who follow Jesus Christ. Church history is a journey of the past of the Church that has occurred after the coming of Jesus Christ. Church history does not just appear but is a legacy of Church Fathers who were willing to be martyred in order to fight for and at the same time defend the truth of the faith. The church's mission is to bring people to God's salvation. The Pontifical Archdiocese Church has a long history, and has faced challenges and obstacles, both internally and externally. What started as the Apostolic Vicariate of Dutch Borneo, changed to the Archdiocese of Pontianak. Studying the history of the Pontianak Archdiocese Church is something that must be continued because that is where researchers get a very meaningful understanding. So this article aims to understand how the history of the Church and the history of the Pontifical Archdiocese has grown and developed today. The results of this study indicate that the Historical Journey of the Pontianak Archdiocese follows the journey of early Church history that was championed by the Church Fathers. Thus it can be concluded that the emergence of the history of the Archdiocese of Pontianak came from foreign missionaries.

Grant, Michael. "The Bimillennium." Greece and Rome 47, no. 1 (April 2000): 1–2. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/gr/47.1.1.

Full text
Abstract:
Everyone is now celebrating the Bimillennium, and very many are writing about it. Bimillennium of what? Of our era, of course: A.D. 2000. Our era is supposed to have begun with the birth of Jesus Christ. But Jesus Christ was not, unfortunately, born in A.D. 1: he was born in 11 or 7 or 6 or 5 or 4 B.C. We do not know exactly when, and our sources have made no particular effort to tell us. Our era was only established by a Russian monk Dionysius Exiguus, in the sixth century A.D. – he had been asked to attack the problem by Pope John I. The theory of Dionysius (which appears, incidentally, to be based on a mathematical error) was taken up by the West, and has held the field ever since. That is why, quite illogically, we commemorate the Bimillennium today: and why governments are spending a great deal of their peoples' money to do so. But let us not, all the same, belittle this misconceived Bimillennium. For it gives a great many people the opportunity to think a lot about their lives – to turn over a new leaf, hoping confidently that their new era and behaviour will be an improvement on the past. So for that reason let us welcome the Bimillennium. But not because it is the Bimillennium of the birth of Jesus Christ, because it is not. Not that the public, as a whole, minds. Any more than it minds about the religious basis of Christmas. It is, however, in my opinion, worth recording that this religious basis exists, and that on these grounds the whole foundation of the Bimillennium is fallacious, although no doubt it will receive the most massive celebrations, and these are justified in so far as they persuade people to change and improve their lives and the life of the community to which they belong. This was certainly the case in A.D. 1000, and I hope and believe it will be the case in 2000 as well.

The article presents the meaning of the term persona in the Latin literature. The author shows that Boetius’ understanding of this term as individuum or rationalis naturae individua substantia is not sufficient. The author proposes to explore Tertullian’s teaching about the human person. This ancient theologian used the term persona in a Christian sense. Thus he contributed to the development of the Christian vocabulary. We notice that in the Patristic sources there are keys for the theological reflection about the human person in a soteriological aspect; we can better understand the true nature of the human being (or person) in the light of the work of salvation accomplished by Jesus Christ.

But to Christians, the gospel refers to the biography of Jesus as it is evident from the study of currently available Gospels.According to the Bible – Acts of the Apostels, Barnabas is one among the first three personalities who dedicated their lives to Christianity. There was a Gospel attributed to Barnabas, which was of great importance in the early days of Christianity. However, at a conference in Nicaea in 325 later, it was decided that all the Gospels in Hebrew were to be destroyed, the Gospel of Barnabas would be destroyed. The orders were issued but somehow it remained till the present time. The contents of this Gospel are closer to the Islamic teachings than the other available Gospels, so Muslim scholars liked it and disliked it by Christian scholars. In this article, the Gospels and the evangelicals related to this Gospel are presented in an exploratory way to show the truth in the Christian world. In this article presents the anecdotes and predictions related to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) written in Gospel of Barnabās in an exploratory manner so that the truth is revealed to the Christian world.

Abstract:
The paper examines formal changes of traditional church music in postmodernism: the choice of brief passages in the Bible characterised by soul searching (Jesus musing on his destiny, experiencing confusion about his purpose and mission), heroic acts (Esther and Judith saving the Jewish people), self-sacrifice and moral fables rather than key chapters of dogmatic stringency. Characteristic of postmodernist aesthetics are the combination of high and low art, fragmentation, and hybridity. Music rooted in the Bible draws on heterogeneous sources, such as medieval religious mysteries (the Wakefield Mysteries), jazz, folk music (Celtic, Far Eastern or East European, as in James MacMillan’s Seven Last Words from the Cross, 1994) quasi ancient music (actually a pastiche, as in Howard Goodall’s The Beautitudes, 2009). The sacramental atmosphere is lost in a narrative about a tamed and belittled Jesus figure: The Boy (1977) by David Palmer, or El Niňo (2000) by John Adams. These compositions at the turn of the millennium are belated and sublimated echoes of the rock operas of the ’70s, which carried with them intimations of politics (as in Yale Marshall’s The Business of Good Government, 1970), disseminating concern for the public spirit, care for the wretched of the earth, support for the hippie movement and ideology (especially Lloyd-Weber’s Jesus Christ Superstar).

Abstract:
The cross of Christ in the Middle Ages was the most powerful symbol of God’s victory over sin, death and the forces of evil, while also representing the most abject suffering and degradation of Jesus Christ, the God-Man. A simplistic reading of the evolution of the theology of the cross during this period posits a transition from the early medieval victorious and heroic Christ figure, reigning and triumphant upon the cross, to a late medieval emaciated and tortured object of pity whose ignominious death was supposed to elicit heartfelt compassion for his plight and sincere sorrow for the sin which placed him on the beams of the tree of crucifixion. Of course, there is a great deal of value in this argument, and much evidence might be brought forward to support its central thesis. However, it should not be pushed too far; it might also be remembered that the essential paradox of Christ the victor-victim is a constant theme in Christian theology, expressed in the sixth-century Vexilla regis in its identification of the cross as ‘victim of the passion’s glory, by which life brought death to an end, and, by death, gave life again’ and in the hymn Victimae paschali laudes from the central medieval period: ‘Death with life contended, combat strangely ended, life’s own champion slain yet lives to reign’. The image of the victorious cross of Christ, conceived of as simultaneously an instrument of triumph and of torture, would persist right through the late medieval period, despite the development of a greater emphasis on the physical sufferings of Christ in his passion and their ever more graphic depictions. This essay, which examines the way in which the cross of Christ is presented in medieval Irish literature, provides sufficient examples to make this point clear; these are drawn from a variety of sources including religious verse, saints’ lives, medieval travel accounts and sermon material. Of course, these examples are best viewed within the context of a broader medieval European devotional culture from which Ireland was certainly not immune.

Saint Clare and leadership? A lot of research on her person has been done in recent years. However, her importance for today’s management has not been taken into account. In this article, we will look more closely at her understanding of leadership and how the medieval saint led the community of her sisters. To do this, we first look at biographical reports and written testimonies (about and written by her) that characterize her leadership actions and behavior. First and foremost, it was her endeavor to lead a life according to Jesus Christ under the privilege of poverty. In this presentation, the excerpts from the canonization process and passages of her order rule are of central importance. These testimonies provide valuable information on her understanding and her leadership style. Her biography, her leadership, and the values that shape her actions provide valuable insights into today’s leadership challenges. Through her example, St. Clare can help us to train ourselves as authentic leaders and to reflect on our own leadership and values. She can sensitize people to cultivate an appreciative inner attitude in dealing with others and thus develop our own effect as (leadership) personalities.

Our knowledge of the city's celebrated palladium is confined to fragmentary information deriving from narrative sources. Specifically, we know that it was transferred by Isaac Comnenos to Constantinople in the late 12th century; as for the scene represented on the icon, our sole information comes from an epigram by John Apokaukos.

The written sources as well as some recent oral testimonies, reveal also the icon's importance to local tradition; this leads us to the thought that the famous icon might have influenced the artistic production of southern Greece. The research resulted to the conclusion that a specific iconographie type of Christ Helkomenos is widely diffused throughout the late Byzantine monuments of this area, especially of Laconia (Peloponnese). In this iconographie type, Jesus, wearing a red tunic and a crown of thorns, is standing facing the Cross, which is already fixed on the ground with a ladder standing against it. This basic notion is in some examples enriched with secondary figures such as Roman soldiers accompanying Jesus, or the Jewish prelate. The latter, pointing towards the symbol of Passion, is ordering Jesus to ascend, by the exclaiming word «ἀνάβηθι», which is usually inscribed at the background of the scene.

Since G. Millet's days (1916), scholars have already expressed assumptions regarding a probable relation between these depictions and the lost icon. However, having as a starting point the above -quite appealing- thought, and based on the currently available evidence, we must pose two questions, presented below.

The theme of Christ Helkomenos is depicted in Byzantine Art in two different iconographie forms. The theme, moreover, does not belong to the illustrations of the Great Feasts of the liturgical Calendar, which were usually represented in Byzantine icons. So the following question arises: Is it possible for the iconographie type found in Laconia to have been used for a devotional icon and, furthermore, to reflect the Monemvasia palladium?

If we accept a positive answer to the first question, we have then to answer the second one: in what way the icon, kept at the Archangel Michael Monastery en to Anaplo in Constantinople since the late 12th century, could have been used as a model for several monuments in its «native» land?

A brief review of the iconographic type's evolution, combined with research into Monemvasia's historical profile in the end of the 13th century, provides us with satisfactory answers to our questions and allows an approach to the city's legendary icon.

Abstract In the context of this article, the work of Quirinus Kuhlmann (1651–1689) is interpreted as an attempt to project one’s own life onto the history of the world and salvation in the sense of Hans Blumenberg’s essay “Lebenszeit und Weltzeit” (1986). As particularly rich sources of information on Kuhlmann’s biography and his interpretative practice of relating historical events to his own life, the paratexts – preface, motto, commentary, letters, prose introductions, and title copy – are at the centre of the study. These paratextual elements are an integral part of a self-fashioning of authorship that aims to elevate Kuhlmann as the “Son of Jesus” to a central figure in chiliastic and eschatological expectations of the near future.

Abstract:
This article examines the Legio Maria Church of western Kenya, a relatively rare example of schism from the Roman Catholic Church in Africa. One of more than seven thousand African Initiated Churches in existence today, it combines conservative Catholicism, traditional religion and charismatic manifestations of the Spirit. Yet this group is different in one important respect——it worships a black messiah, claiming that its founder, Simeo Ondeto, was Jesus Christ reincarnated in African skin. This article considers factors involved in the group's genesis as a distinct modern-day messianic movement, including: (1) the need to defend and define itself vis-àà-vis Roman Catholicism; (2) the appropriation of apocalyptic ideas found in Christian scriptures and their synthesis with local religious traditions; and (3) the imitation of Jesus' example and teaching to confront political and religious persecution in a manner marked by openness, universalism and nonviolence. Eschewing Western theological categories for African ones, this article draws upon internal sources and explanations of Legio Maria's notion of messianism and Ondeto's role therein to illustrate that, far from being a heretical sect, Legio may well represent a more fully contextualized and authentically homegrown version of Catholicism among countless other African Christian realities.

The study represents an analytical review of iconoclasm, a Christological heresy that appeared in Byzantium and lasted for two centuries. After the first section The possibilities of expressing Jesus Christ and the holy servants of God by means of icons, which describes the historical and theological background of the said problem, explanations are given of the kinds of "icons" and the different dimensions of the notion of an "icon" - the natural and hand-made icon, and subsequently, of the relationship of the image and the original, along with the dogmatic foundation of all hypotheses and claims. This two-part study, in addition to using the relevant sources, explains the relationship of the iconoclasts and the iconophiles, at that time in Byzantium and throughout history, right up to the present day

Abstract:
In the process of studying the history of the Mormons, it becomes apparent that the emergence and functioning of this Church are closely linked with religious freedom.Reflecting on the historical connections between the Church and religious freedom, you seek to find what became the starting point for the special respect for the Mormons of the latter. The first thing that strikes the eye is the desire of the Mormons to have such a system, such laws that would provide the opportunity to freely profess their religious beliefs. For this, the ZHIHSOD suffered heavy losses - both physical, property, and moral. The pages of the history of the Church are full of tragic events, the suffering of people, the death of many of its followers. And all this is due to the lack of freedom of belief. As a result of the persecution, the Church and thousands of its members were forced to constantly migrate, to change their places and areas of activity. All this is described in sources, in fiction, in painting, cinema. Thousands of studies have been written that convincingly prove why the Mormons fought and will fight for freedom of religion, defend the right of people to follow their faith. This is more fully written by the authors of this article in his book "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in its history and the present," printed in 2016.

Abstract:
AbstractAcross the eastern Mediterranean, the personnel of late antique pilgrimage sites distributed terracotta tokens stamped with depictions of saints, scenes from the life of Christ, and related imagery. Using primarily hagiographical sources, scholars associate tokens with healing practices, the veneration of icons, and the worship of relics. Certainly, hagiographies offer valuable representations of ritual processes, but they also make claims on the proper distribution, meaning, and use of tokens amidst a diversity of intercessory activities. How, in practice, was a token produced and distributed? How did pilgrims use tokens at and away from pilgrimage complexes beyond the assertions made by hagiographers? This article answers these questions by tracing the “cultural biography” of a token. It analyzes the archaeological contexts of tokens in order to clarify select statuses that a token might occupy during its lifetime, including commodity, gift, domestic object, funerary object, relic, rubbish, and art object. This approach lays the foundation for examining hagiographical claims regarding the use of tokens as one among many assertions in the contested process of harnessing the power of saints. It illustrates the capacity of devotees to exhibit diverse practices as well as the efforts of personnel at pilgrimage sites to shape those practices.
