Abstract:
To airlines, the network profit is the fundamental and the only goal pursuit. When airlines operates the airline network, it is the most direct means to ensure passenger flow on every route, in addition to use large models, increase the frequency, developing competitive airline fares will also attract more passengers. As for the hub and spoke network, there are direct flights and the transit flights, each side of the flow varies with the fares and the number of network nodes, in order to highlight the scale economic benefit of hub and spoke network, research on the influence of network edge flow, fares on route network the profit is very important.

Abstract:
The extant literature proposes an option-based hedging mechanism for airlines in a parallel alliance to transfer bumped passengers to their alliance partner's flight. This paper extends this literature by conducting strategic analyses and developing a two-stage simulation-based algorithm to identify the best strategy for applying the hedging mechanism. Specifically, the best strategy refers to the best number of options for the allied carriers to transact. The authors show that there exists a robust result of the best number of options, and it is obtained under the objective of maximizing alliance-wide revenue. The result of this paper can provide direct guidance to the management of airlines on the best practice of hedging ex-post overbooking risks and matching supply with demand.

Abstract:
The article discusses the business-model transformation of Russian airlines in 2020 and for the first half of 2021 caused by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Research interest in Russian air transport market is considerable due to its heterogeneity in terms of airline business models, the level of federal (regional) regulation, passenger traffic on different routes. The theoretical part of the study analyzes approaches to defining airlines business-model. The pattern of business model by J. Daft and S. Albers based on a quantitatively defined finite set of carriers’ characteristics is most appropriate for the objectives of the study. Due to lack of primary data the empirical part is based on the media coverage of Russian airlines in the period of 2020 and 2021. The data was verified using text analysis methods in SPSS Modeler and primary data on the operational activities of airlines. Further, through a series of expert panels, which included representatives of airports and airlines, the number of carriers’ media coverage was arranged into components and dimensions of business model. It was found that the actions of Russian and foreign airlines differed according to the territorial and institutional characteristics of the Russian air transport market. There was a transition to direct regional flights, the expansion of the customer way and the competition between carriers based on a set of available services. With the novelty of the study, the conclusions are limited because the analysis based on media coverage does not reveal a full range of reactions of airlines, in particular, internal transformations which companies do not report. The results can serve as a pattern for the formation of industry monitoring of airline reactions, as well as a starting point for studying the sustainability of changes in the business models of Russian airlines.

Abstract:
AbstractJust as in other state-subsidized service areas, in the field of aviation weather there is political pressure as well as a growing economic need to substantiate or at least evaluate the economic benefits of meteorological information. The research presented in this paper has been conducted as part of a broad study concerning the economic benefits of the meteorological services in the Swiss transport sector. For the aviation sector, interviews revealed that meteorological information is a pivotal input factor in the decision-making process of airlines: In addition to security and safety purposes, airlines use meteorological information to optimize the economic efficiency of daily operations as well as for strategic decisions regarding flight routes and flight planning. In this paper a decision-making model is used to evaluate at least part of the economic benefits of the meteorological services to Switzerland’s domestic airlines by analyzing the use of terminal aerodrome forecasts (TAF) at Zurich Airport (Switzerland). By lowering the probability of costly wrong decisions, meteorological information generates direct economic benefits for the airlines. The total benefits for all domestic airlines at Zurich Airport amount to between 11 and 17 million Swiss francs per year [12 to 18 million USD; 1 U.S. dollars (USD) = 0.934 Swiss francs (CHF), average exchange rate 2012]. By extrapolating the results based on the number of flights, the total economic benefits of TAF to Switzerland’s domestic airlines at both main Swiss airports (Zurich and Geneva) add up to somewhere between 13 and 21 million Swiss francs per year (14 to 22 million USD).

Abstract:
Competition encourages companies to provide attractive offers such as promo ticket prices to giving free seats. However, many airline companies, who only want to achieve their profit targets, are willing to put aside their responsibilities and consumer rights; one of which is the delay of a flight ticket refund due to the cancellation of the flight by the airline unilaterally. This study aims to determine the form of legal protection for consumers who experience delays in paying Refund funds by airlines and to find out the forms of airline responsibility for Refund funds and settlement efforts in case of disputes. This type of research is normative juridical with a statutory approach presented in the form of legal interpretation. The results showed that the cancellation of flight schedules by airlines was not regulated in Law No. 1 of 2009 concerning Aviation, but the provisions can be seen in the Minister of Transportation Regulation Number 77 of 2011 Article 12 paragraphs 1 and 2. Permenhub Number 185 of 2015 also regulates the period of ticket refunds. Refunds can also be added with other compensation as well as Article 1453 of the Civil Code. The time period for the refund process by airlines is generally in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Transportation Number 185 of 2015. Settlement of consumer disputes can be done by 1) Direct compensation for losses; 2) Through BPSK by means of mediation, conciliation and arbitration; 3) Settlement of consumer disputes through litigation.

Abstract:
AbstractThere has been a continuously growing trend in international commercial air traffic, with the exception of COVID-19 crises; however, after the recovery, the trend is expected to even sharpen. The consequences of released emissions and by-products in the environment range from human health hazards, low air quality and global warming. This study is aimed to investigate the role of aviation emissions in global warming. For this purpose, data on different variables including global air traffic and growth rate, air traffic in different continents, total global CO2 emissions of different airlines, direct and indirect emissions, air traffic in various UK airports and fuel-efficient aircraft was collected from various sources like EU member states, Statista, Eurostat, IATA, CAA and EUROCONTROL. The results indicated that in 2019, commercial airlines carried over 4.5 × 109 passengers on scheduled flights. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the global number of passengers was reduced to 1.8 × 109, representing around a 60% reduction in air traffic. Germany was the largest contributor to greenhouse gas (GHG) from the EU, releasing 927 kt of emissions in 3 years. In the UK, Heathrow airport had the highest number of passengers in 2019 with over 80 million, and the study of monthly aircraft movement revealed that Heathrow Airport also had the highest number of EU and International flights, while Edinburgh had the domestic flights in 2018. These research findings could be beneficial for airlines, policymakers and governments targeting the reduction of aircraft emissions. Graphical abstract

Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to analyze the mediation function of travel anxiety on the effect of value for money and service quality on the behavioral intention of passengers on low-cost carrier airlines Citilink and Lion Air. The population used in this study were passengers of low-cost carrier airlines entering Banda Aceh, namely Wings Air and Citilink. The sampling technique used is non-probability sampling with a convenience sampling approach. The respondents in this study were all passengers of lowcost carrier airlines entering Banda Aceh, namely Wings Air and Citilink. The number of sampling in this study is the multiplication of the number 5 with the number of existing indicators (Ferdinand 2010), namely 5 x 31 indicators = 155 people. Data processing is done using SPSS and Smart PLS software. Of the five direct influence hypotheses tested, namely the Effect of the Value of Money on Travel Anxiety, the Effect of the Value of Money on Behavioral Intention, the Effect of Travel Anxiety on Behavioral Intention, the Effect of Service Quality on Travel Anxiety, and Effect of Service Quality on Behavioral Intention, there is one that is not significant, namely the effect of Value for Money on Behavior Intention. The meaning is in encouraging someone to travel, even though in the case of Low-Cost Carrier it turns out that at the 5% alpha level the effect is not significant. But if we use 10% DF, then all direct hypotheses in this study have a significant effect. As for the indirect effect, the two hypotheses of the Effect of the Value of Money on Behavioral Intention through Travel Anxiety and the Effect of Service Quality on Behavioral Intention through Travel Anxiety, do not of them produce a significant effect. Only the influence of Service Quality on Behavioral Intention through Travel Anxiety is significant, although the role of travel anxiety in linking service quality variables to behavior intention is only a partial intervention

Abstract:
The global crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has suspended not only the development of the aviation sector, but also the global economy in general. The possibility of acquiring the pre-crisis level indicators by domestic air transport enterprises depends on the effective solution of problematic issues to increase their competitiveness in the liberalized aviation market. This publication is aimed at carrying out systematization and identifying the prerequisites for efficient strategic management of Ukrainian air transport enterprises on the basis of consideing modern challenges in the development of the air transport services market, the conditions and industry peculiarities of the activities of aviation business entities in Ukraine. According to the results of the conducted study, the list of obstacles that hinder the development of air transport in Ukraine are systematized. The identified sufficiently strong dependence of the added value created by domestic airlines on such factors as the amount of time worked, the number of airlines, the volumes of passenger transportation and the number of advanced technologies used, pointed out the expediency of taking into account the stimulating impact of these factors on the business activity of domestic air transport enterprises for the development of the national economy. The results of the study of the prerequisites for increasing the competitiveness and development of air transport enterprises of Ukraine have testified to the need to create conditions for efficient strategic management of Ukrainian airlines, which together, due to the creation of additional jobs, as well as added value, have a direct impact on the formation of Ukraine’s gross domestic product.

Abstract:
This study examines the impact of global economic mobility and domestic production on revenue and EBITDA, which are income statement performance indicators of flagged carrier’s airline companies. The research question is whether the global economic trade mobility and domestic production will lead to an effect in the number of individuals traveling, and thus eventually affect the revenue and profitability performance of airline companies. There are studies in the literature that have selected macroeconomic indicators as affecting travel volume and financials. In this study, trade openness and direct investments represent the global economy's mobility. Short-term interest rates, oil prices and exchange rates are included in the model as a control variable. The results of the panel model indicate that trade openness have a positive effect on firms' revenues. Airline companies should develop their financial forecasts by monitoring the macroeconomic indicators that have shown significant results from empirical analysis.
