Abstract:
The results of the analysis of the technical and reference literature related to the technical fire extinguishing means showed that there is no complete data regarding the technical characteristics of the carriage trunks, which relate to the length of the continuous water jet depending on the fluid pressure, the diameter of the nozzle, the angle of its inclination and placement heights above the ground. The firefighting barrel trunks are mainly used for localization and extinguishing of open fires (for example, in open warehouses of timber, forest fires, etc.). In the process of eliminating such fires, it is necessary to control the flow of a continuous jet into the fire cell by changing the pressure, the diameter of the nozzle, the angle of the barrel and the like. Therefore, to solve this problem in terms of controlling the process of extinguishing a fire, the task is to conduct experimental studies and to obtain on the basis of the experimental results of an empirical mathematical model, which would take into account the influence on the length of the continuous jet of the above factors. According to the results of experimental studies, to obtain a mathematical model for determining the length of flow of a continuous stream of water by a flap barrel from the variables that influence the process of its control during the elimination of fire. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to solve the following tasks: 1) to carry out experimental studies to determine the length of the flow of continuous jet of water with a pallet barrel from the variables that affect the process of its management in the elimination of fire; 2) mathematically process the results of the experiment and obtain a mathematical model to determine the flow length of a continuous stream of water supplied by a carriage shaft; 3) to develop a methodology for controlling the process of choosing the length of a continuous stream of water, which is fed by a carriage barrel when extinguishing a fire. Experimental studies were conducted using a fractional experiment to solve the first problem. For experimental research used: 1) fire truck MAZ AC-4-60 (5309) -505M; 2) PLS-20P carriage barrel; 3) fire hoses for connecting the carriage barrel to the centrifugal pump of the fire tanker; 4) roulette at 5 m; 5) a goniometer for measuring and setting the angle of the barrel relative to the earth's surface; 6) barrel nozzles d = 25 mm and d = 32 mm. Based on the results of the experiment, a nonlinear mathematical model was developed to determine the flow length of a continuous stream of water supplied by a carriage shaft. The model developed also takes into account the effect on the length of the jet supply the height of placement of the carriage trunk above the ground. The mathematical model for determining the flow length of a continuous jet of water with a carriage trunk gave the opportunity to develop a method of controlling the flow length of a continuous jet of water. Conclusions and specific suggestions: The results of experimental studies to determine the length of the flow of continuous jet of water by a barrel trunk from variable factors made it possible to clarify the technical capabilities of carriage trunks and to develop a method of controlling the process of water supply in the event of fire elimination. A nonlinear mathematical model was developed to determine the flow length of a continuous jet of water by a carriage barrel, the adequacy of which was tested according to the Fisher criterion. To control the process of water supply, depending on the required distance to the fire, a step-by-step method is proposed to increase or decrease the length of the continuous flow of water by a flap barrel.

Abstract:
Purpose This study aims to investigate effects of sonic jet injection into supersonic cross-flow (JISC) numerically in different dynamic pressure ratio values and free stream Mach numbers. Design/methodology/approach Large Eddy simulation (LES) with dynamic Smagorinsky model is used as the turbulence approach. The numerical results are compared with the experimental data, and the comparison shows acceptable validation. Findings According to the results, the dynamic pressure ratio has critical effects on the zone related to barrel shock. Despite free stream Mach number, increasing dynamic pressure ratio leads to expansion of barrel shock zone. Consequently, expanded barrel shock zone would bring about more obstruction effect. In addition, the height of counter-rotating vortex pair increases, and the high-pressure area before jet and low-pressure area after jet will rise. The results show that the position of barrel shock is deviated by increasing free stream Mach number, and the Bow shock zone becomes stronger and close to barrel shock. Moreover, high pressure zone, which is located before the jet, decreases by high free stream Mach number. Practical implications In this study, LES with a dynamic Smagorinsky model is used as the turbulence approach. Effects of sonic JISC are investigated numerically in different dynamic pressure ratio values and free stream Mach numbers. Originality/value As summary, the following are the contribution of this paper in the field of JISC subjects: several case studies of jet condition have been performed. In all the cases, the flow at the nozzle exit is sonic, and the free stream static pressure is constant. To generate proper grid, a cut cell method is used for domain modelling. Boundary condition effect on the wall pressure distribution around the jet and velocity profiles, especially S shape profiles, is investigated. The results show that the relation between representing the location of Mach disk centre and at transonic regime is a function of second-order polynomial, whereas at supersonic regime, the relationship is modelled as a first-order polynomial. In addition, the numerical results are compared with the experimental data demonstrating acceptable validation.

We present a systematic analysis of azimuthal correlations between inclusive photons detected in the STAR Barrel Electromagnetic Calorimeter and tracks measured in the Time Projection Chamber in p + p and d + Au collisions. These measurements provide insight in basic properties of jet fragmentation in p + p and d + Au collisions at RHIC energies and also serve as a reference for medium-modified fragmentation in nuclear collisions. The on-line trigger on high-pT photons in the Barrel Calorimeter provides a substantial sample of triggered events with photons at high-pT. Even at this pT, the photon sample is dominated by π0 decays, allowing to explore jet fragmentation with a leading π0 in detail.

In order to solve the yielding failure problem of water jet energy accumulator barrel due to high pressure, the prestressed composite structure design and the theory of equal strength are used to determine the parameters of accumulator barrel, such as the internal cylinder of the composite cylinder, the radii of the inner and outer cylinders, the radius of sub-layer and the optimal interference. Then the ANSYS software is used to analyze the cylinder model with the finite element method, the equivalent stress of the effective node along the wall thickness of the simulation model is obtained by path extraction method and the distribution curves of the equivalent stress along the wall thickness with different internal pressure are also obtained. By analyzing the simulated results and curves, the design parameters of accumulator barrel meet the expected strength requirement.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTA lack of environmental enrichment can be severely detrimental to animal welfare. For terrestrial species, including humans, barren environments are associated with reduced cognitive function and increased stress responses and pathology. Despite a clear link between increased stress and reduced immune function, uncertainty remains on how enrichment might influence susceptibility to disease. For aquatic vertebrates, we are only now beginning to assess enrichment needs. Enrichment deprivation in fish has been linked to increased stress responses, agonistic behaviour, physiological changes and reduced survival. Limited data exist, however, on the impact of enrichment on disease resistance in fish, despite infectious diseases being a major challenge for global aquaculture. Here, using a model vertebrate host–parasite system, we investigated the impact of enrichment deprivation on susceptibility to disease, behaviour and physiology. Fish in barren tanks showed significantly higher infection burdens compared with those in enriched enclosures and they also displayed increased intraspecific aggression behaviour. Infections caused hosts to have significantly increased standard metabolic rates compared with uninfected conspecifics, but this did not differ between enriched and barren tanks. This study highlights the universal physiological cost of parasite infection and the biological cost (increased susceptibility to infection and increased aggression) of depriving captive animals of environmental enrichment.

Abstract:
Electricity is produced by power stations and is transported throughout the electric-power transmission at long distances with high voltage apparatus. The GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear) is widely used switchgear. The electric insulation is ensured by the gas SF6. Security IEC norms impose temperature rises not to be exceeded during GIS operating. It is important to know and control the electromagnetic and thermal phenomenons which generate temperature rises. The switchgear design could then be faster and more precise, leading to only one successful temperature rise test. Solutions to reduce temperatures could also be found. The temperature rise reduction is crucial as it allow a higher current flowing through the GIS and an increase of its efficiency. The word achieved during this thesis presents an analysis of electro-thermal phenomenons in GIS and, more precisely, in busbars. It leads to the determination of the parameters influencing temperature rises and of the heat transfers proportion which is assessed and discussed. A numerical modelization is carried out to examine the temperature rises induced by the current flow in busbars

Abstract:

"Functions of the first Baire class." Paris 7, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013PA077071.

Abstract:
IThe aim of this thesis is to provide new tools for handling and getting |a better understanding of Borel functions. We take the Wadge analysis |on sets as a role model for our analysis of functions, and the far horizon of the project is to get a description of functions that is as precise as the Wadge hierarchy on sets is. We focus on the first Baire (class and specifically on the continuous functions. The use of games in the analysis of the Wadge hierarchy being central, games are the first tools that we try to develop. The framework that (allows to mix games and functions is given by the Polish and 0-(dimensional spaces. So from this point onwards, we only consider (functions from and into a closed subspace of the Baire space. The first idea for this thesis is to find purely game-theoretical methods (and use them to provide new proofs of the Baire Lemma on pointwise (convergence or of the Jayne-Rogers Theorem. Then, as a second approach, we look for a reduction notion for functions that preserves the simplicity of these, so for instance the Baire class. We use the simplicity of the quasi-order, i. E. It being a well-quasi-order, as a major criterion to choose between several notions that preserve the regularity of functions. It is far from being [an easy task to prove that a fine quasi-order is a wqo, so we describe the one candidate that is most likely on a very wide class of functions. Then we begin to study it on the restricted class of continuous functions

This thesis is devoted to the study of non-Borel Al2 pointclasses of the Baire space, using reductions by continuous functions. This work is divided in three main parts. In the first one, we generalise results obtained by Duparc and Louveau to provide a complete description of the • Wadge hierarchy of the class of increasing differences of coanalytic sets, under some determinacy hypothesis. In a second part, we study some Al2 pointclasses above the class of increasing differences of coanalytic sets, and give a fragment of the Wadge hierarchy for those classes. Finally, we apply our results and techniques to theoretical computer science and more precisely to the study of regular tree languages, that is sets of labeled binary trees that are recognized by tree automata

"Supersonic jet laser induced fluorescence spectroscopy of solvent complexes of tryptophan analogues and molecular mechanics modeling of bare molecule conformers." Tulane University, 1991.

Abstract:
Solvent complexes of the tryptophan analogues 3-indolepropionic acid, 3-indoleacetic acid, N-acetyltryptophan ethyl ester (NATE), tryptamine, tryptophol, and $\beta$-phenylethylamine, were studied in a supersonic free jet using the technique of laser induced fluorescence. Dispersed emission spectra of some spectral features were obtained. The solvents included water, methanol, ethanol, n-propanol, isopropanol, isobutanol, 2-methyl-2-butanol, 2-methylcyclohexanol, 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol, benzene, acetone, methylene chloride, tetrahydrofuran, acetonitrile, and ammonia. Solvent addition to the polar sites on the 3-indole side chain of the tryptophan analogues produces small, red solvent shifts of the complex origins with small blue shifts occurring in some instances. This is in contrast to the large red shifts observed in indole solvent adducts, which are due to binding at the ring chromophore. Solvent adduct formation strongly favors the polar side chain over the indole ring, especially for the larger solvent molecules. The multiple origin bands of tryptamine, due to different conformers, collapsed to one prominent solvent induced feature by a variety of solvents bearing hydroxyl groups. This behavior was exhibited to a lesser extent by tryptophol. Solvent induced features for the other analogues studied indicated formation of separate complexes for each bare molecule conformer Lifetimes were obtained of the bare molecule conformer peaks of the tryptophan analogues in the origin region. The lifetimes ranged in value from 13.0 to 16.1 ns. Although the range is not great, different conformers did exhibit different lifetimes. Lifetimes were also obtained for the one major solvent induced feature of tryptamine with various hydroxyl bearing solvents. These lifetimes ranged from 14.2 to 15.2 ns The molecular mechanics program MM2(87) was implemented on an IBM mainframe and used to calculate the potential energy surface for the tryptophan and tyrosine analogues tryptamine, 3-indoleacetic acid, 3-indolepropionic acid, tryptophol, $\beta$-phenylethylamine, and tyramine. A series of conformers was found for each analogue, and a Boltzmann distribution was determined for each series. These distributions were matched against the experimentally derived populations to determine the conformer associated with each spectral feature. These results were compared with literature values for tryptamine, 3-indoleacetic acid and 3-indolepropionic acid

Abstract:
AbstractThis review will be concerned with our knowledge of extended matter under the governance of strong interaction, in short: QCD matter. Strictly speaking, the hadrons are representing the first layer of extended QCD architecture. In fact we encounter the characteristic phenomena of confinement as distances grow to the scale of 1 fm (i.e. hadron size): loss of the chiral symmetry property of the elementary QCD Lagrangian via non-perturbative generation of “massive” quark and gluon condensates, that replace the bare QCD vacuum. However, given such first experiences of transition from short range perturbative QCD phenomena (jet physics etc.), toward extended, non perturbative QCD hadron structure, we shall proceed here to systems with dimensions far exceeding the force range: matter in the interior of heavy nuclei, or in neutron stars, and primordial matter in the cosmological era from electro-weak decoupling (10−12 s) to hadron formation (0.5 ⋅ 10−5 s). This primordial matter, prior to hadronization, should be deconfined in its QCD sector, forming a plasma (i.e. color conducting) state of quarks and gluons: the Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP).

Abstract:
This chapter undertakes a philology-inspired genealogy of Kafka’s invocation of an exemplary lizard on an Italian footpath in his critique of Max Brod’s novel The Jewesses, wherein Kafka remarks upon its failure to counter the everyday practice of identifying Jewish individuals by the undifferentiated collective singular of “the Jew.” Against assumptions about allegedly common identifications of Jews and lizards and consequent allegations of Kafka’s abjection of Judentum, as in Judith Butler’s cavalier tossing of Kafka’s “lizard” into the pickle barrel of contemporary identity politics and the question of Israel-Palestine, this chapter first situates Kafka’s invocation within his actual encounters with lizards in Italy. It then constellates contemporary ressentiment-laden literary politics and Jewish-Gentile relations through the allusive mediations of Brod’s editing of Kafka’s diary and of Karl Kraus and his vicious denunciation of “Heine and the Consequences.” It then turns to two other possible influences on Kafka’s figuration: Goethe’s encounters with lizards during his Italian Journey and Heine’s in the opening chapters of The City of Lucca in his Travel Pictures. Combining allusions to Eduard Gans and Benedict Spinoza with various physical, genealogical, and mental traits Heine’s construction of the lizards may well be, as the Jew-as-Animal, articulating the Jewish animot.

Abstract:
In this article, we explore how children and youth participating in a multicultural festival in Norway construct space and place. Such events respond to the call to action for reducing prejudice and stereotypes, and they aim to promote inclusion, participation and community. Nonetheless, researchers have criticized such events for instead promoting categorical understandings of cultural identities; as such, some researchers regard multicultural festivals as counterproductive to the aim of promoting inclusion. However, previous research has directed scarce attention to the participants’ perspective, in particular viewpoints of children and youth. Inspired by perspectives on spatial justice (Soja, 1996, 2010), we interpret young people’s experiences and meaning making while attending a multicultural festival. We collected data through an app, which allowed us to conduct structured interviews with children and youths on site. The findings bring out the significance of space and place when interpreting young people’s participation and meaning making at such events. We conclude the article by reflecting on the potential of perspectives on space and place to nuance an often one-sided criticism of multicultural events.

Abstract:
Heidegger’s thought absorbed the lesson of a very ancient history: any true beginning always fails to be such, to truly begin, and must struggle to reinstantiate itself without going astray or breaking down. The thinking of the beginning is thus burdened with a banal metaphysical doxa of authenticity, originarity and properness. Christianity has an important role to play in the history of this thinking, as it is marked by the will to constitute a new beginning. Heidegger attempted to think another beginning that would be simultaneously in the image and in the place of the other beginning that Christianity wanted to constitute. Christianity’s rejection and exclusion of Jews and Judaism, as something that would compromise the former’s own claim to initiality, is part of a long history in which the West has made the Jew a figure to which it agressively turns to denounce at points of crisis. One such point occurred in Heidegger’s own time, and Heidegger, like so many in that time, absorbed the banalities of anti-Jewish messages. This banality does not lessen the gravity of Heidegger’s faults, on the contrary it aggravates them. It also demands that we interrogate the broader dimensions of these problems, that we lay bare the roots of anti-Semitism, that we investigate the sacrifical thinking which grounds so much political and social violence, that we break with a model given by this history in which progress is identified with the human conquest of the world, and that we withdraw from being any name and any demand for a destination. We must learn to live without being and without destination.

Abstract:
Corner shaping is a necessary operation in manufacturing of most mechanical components. Edge radiusing is the principal way to reduce stress concentration in components like gear, crank shaft, ball bearing, to permit assembly and disassembly of parts, to avoid local damage and to reduce the possibility of hurting the operators. Often precise values of corner radius are specified in component design. Deterministic operations such as chipping, plastic deformation and non traditional ones such as electro discharge machining, abrasive jet deburring are well established technology. Yet, sometimes, it results not economic or even impossible to perform these operations due to the complicated part geometry, difficulty in part clamping and tool path, large number of parts to be produced. Barrel finishing is technique able to improve the roughness of parts of complicated shape by means of a soft mechanical action over the surface performed by abrasive media. The main features of this technology is that the parts do not need to be fixed. Radiusing is, in turn, a potential application area for barrel finishing which has been investigated in this paper. Experimental tests were conducted on finished specimens with sharp corners in order to achieve information about corner radius evolution as a function of the time for different set parameters. The radius values have been assessed by analyzing the acquired profiles with a proprietary fitting procedure. It has been found a square root relation between radius and working time and, by assessing the influence of single parameter, a radiusing model has been proposed.

Abstract:
The current numerical investigation will examine the effect of an impinging mixed convection air jet on the heat transfer rate of a parallel flat plate heat sink. A three-dimensional numerical model was developed to evaluate the effects of the nozzle diameter (d), nozzle-to-target vertical placement (H/d), Rayleigh number and the jet Reynolds number on the heat transfer rates from a discrete heat source. Simulations were performed for a Prandtl number of 0.7 and for Reynolds numbers ranging from 100 to 5000. The governing equations were solved in the dimensionless form using a commercial finite-volume package. Average Nusselt numbers were obtained, at H/d = 3 and two jet diameters, for the bare heat source, for the heat source with a base heat sink and for the heat source with the finned heat sink. The heat transfer rates from the bare heat sources surface have been compared with the ones obtained with the heat sink in order to determine the overall performance of the heat sink in an impingement configuration.

Abstract:
Cavitation phenomena during the spill process of the Bosch type fuel injection pump for medium-speed diesel engine were investigated by optical observations. Typically, these phenomena can cause a surface damage with material removal or round-off at the plunger and barrel port etc., and may shorten their expected life time. The images, which were recorded with high speed CCD camera and borescope, show that the plunger damage is mainly affected by fountain-like cavitation generated before the end of delivery. And the damages of barrel port and deflector are caused by jet-type cavitation generated after end of delivery. Based on the results of optical investigation, 12 different type pumps varied in the geometry of components were designed to alter the direction, distribution, and intensity of cavitations. Finally, the effects of each countermeasure were evaluated by the durability test on actual diesel engine (HiMSEN H21/32).

Abstract:
Abstract Jet flow is one of the important factors affecting the vibration, initial disturbance and firing dispersion of Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS). In this research, based on the rocket gas jet dynamics, MLRS launch dynamics theory and transfer matrix method for multibody system, a physical model of jet flow model and a MLRS launch dynamics model considering the multiple launch rocket device and the launch of rocket are built. The launching dynamic process of rocket jet flow of MLRS is numerical simulated by using the technology of overset mesh and the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) methods. The nephogram of mach number and contour map of velocity are obtained. The impact effect force on the air-facing surface of rocker launcher after the rocket slides and leaves the directional barrel is acquired. Regarding the calculated data of impact force to MLRS as external force, the MLRS launch dynamics equation is solved by using the transfer matrix method for multibody system. Finally, the dynamics response of MLRS under the effect of jet flow is analyzed.

Abstract:
Water constitutes an attractive manufacturing tool It is readily available and clean. The waterjets are conventionally used for surface cleaning, material removal, and surface modification. The intrinsic shortcomings of such an application are the need in the use of expensive and heavy pumping facilities and, what are more important, peculiarities of the waterjet-substrate interaction which limit material deformation by the incoming jet. These shortcomings are eliminated if the workpiece is impacted by the array of the water slugs, generated by the direct injection of high-intensity energy pulses into the water vessel (barrel) and ejection the portion of the water via the nozzle attached into the barrel. Such a device (barrel-nozzle combination) will constitute an effective and versatile manufacturing tool. Understanding of the phenomena that occur in the course of the energy injection into the water is necessary for the design of the desired device. The phenomena in question are determined by the ratio between the speed of the water in the barrel in the course of the energy injection and the speed of the shock waves in the water. If this ratio is much less than unity, the exit velocity is determined by the ratio between the cross section areas of the nozzle exit and the barrel. If the ratio in question approaches the unity, the water velocity at the nozzle exit is determined by the impact pressure. The device utilizing this principle is termed the water extruder. If however, the ratio is much more than unity the exit water velocity is determined by the superposition of shock waves developed in the fluid. This device termed the water cannon is able to accelerate the water slug to the speed far exceeding 1,000 m/sec. The numerical and experimental studies of water extruder were carried out. The numerical models were constructed and the variation of the water velocity and the water pressure in the barrel were investigated. Experimental setup for the study of the water extruder was constructed by the modification of Remington power tool. The experiments involved the piercing of metal strips. The effect of operational conditions on the maximal depth of the piecing was determined. Another series of experiments involved the study of the slug impact on plastic (lead) and brittle (concrete) materials. The effect of the stand off distance on the removal of both kinds of material was investigated. As the result the suggestions about the way of construction of the water extruders and their practical applications were made.

Abstract:
There have been many cracking experiences of light water reactor (LWR) core internals worldwide in the past. Thermal and Nuclear Power Engineering Society in Japan (TENPES) has organized a committee to prepare technically reasonable and appropriate inspection and evaluation guidelines (I&E guidelines) for core internals. This committee consists of scholars and representatives from electric utilities and nuclear plant vendors in Japan. I&E guidelines, which cover a rational inspection plan, structural integrity assessment and repair methods, have been developed considering nuclear safety function and structural strength of each core internal component. For BWR reactors, the development of I&E guidelines cover major core internal components like shroud support, core shroud, top guide, core plate, ICM and CRD housing, core spray piping and sparger, jet pump etc. For PWR reactors, the development of I&E guidelines cover baffle former bolts, barrel former bolts, core barrel weld, bottom mounted instrumentation, etc. The I&E guidelines will be completed by the end of March 2002. The basic concept of the guidelines, and a guideline for shroud support of a BWR as an example, are shown in this paper.

Abstract:
Abstract Effect of nozzle geometry (such as throat diameter of a barrel nozzle, exit diameter and exit divergence angle of a divergent nozzle) on HVOF thermal spraying process (thermodynamical behavior of combustion gas and spray particles) was investigated by numerical simulation and experiments with Jet Kote II system. The process changes inside the nozzle as obtained by numerical simulation studies were related to the coating properties. A NiCrAlY alloy powder was used for the experimental studies. While the throat diameter of the barrel nozzle was found to have only a slight effect on the microstructure, hardness, oxygen content and deposition efficiency of the coatings, the change in divergent section length (rather than exit diameter and exit divergence angle) had a significant effect. With increase in divergent section length of the nozzle, the amount of oxide content of the NiCrAlY coatings decreased and the deposition efficiency increased significantly. Also, with increase in the exit diameter of the divergent nozzle, the gas temperature and the degree of melting of the particle decreased. On the other hand the calculated particle velocity showed a slight increase while the gas velocity increased significantly.
