Full textIn this document, we have studied the diesel engine vacuum pump drive non linear dynamics. The involved double-sided contact is represented by a classical torsion stiffness and a viscous torsion damping. The piecewise linear motion equation obtained is solved by a semi analytical method. A continuation technique, based on a semi analytical shooting method, is used to describe periodic orbits and their bifurcations. The chaotic behaviour is revealed by the computed Lyaopunov exponents and Poincaré applications. Finally, an experiment idealizing the vacuum pump system has been performed. Experimental and computed results will be confronted to validate the model and the analysis procedure

Full textThis work analyzes -under the scope of clinic psychology- the situation of hospitalized children facing play interventions. The psychodynamic components involved by and within this new approach will be extracted, statrting from children's proper exepriences. Our results confirm the hypothesis that play interventions are used by the child as opportunities to communicate about the experiences he has to make durring his hospitalization. A "transitional space" appears beyond the recreational aspect, becoming a "play-envelope" which symbolizes a "psychic space" shared by the child, and his family and medical surrounding. In such space, everyones's concerns about ilness, disableness or death may show up and interact

Full textThe aim of this dissertation is the experimental analysis of a vertical, complex rotor supported by two pair of ball bearings and two aerostatic bearings. The strong non-linear behavior of the rotor is due to the deadband clearance between the outer rings of the bearings and the stator.Aerostatic bearings are intended to simulate the presence of annular seals and provide damping to the rotor. The test rig is composed of a rotor that reproduces the dimensions, the weight and the inertia of a real machine. It rotor consists of a shaft and three disks representing the impellers and the turbine. The rotor is entrained by a Pelton turbine and is guided by two pairs of bearings and two radial injection aerostatic bearings. An aerostatic thrust bearing supports the weight of the vertically mounted rotor. A dead-band clearance exists between the outer rings of the bearings and the housing. The tests covered three values ofthe radial clearance, small, average and large. The instrumentation of the test rig allows the measurement of radial displacements of the three disks in two perpendicular directions and of the outer rings of the bearings in one direction. The results of the vibration analysis are presented as "waterfalls" diagrams, full-spectrum diagrams and orbits. The dynamic responses of the discs and of the outer rings of the bearings showed the appearance of a non-linear behavior of the rotor with increasing the dead-band clearance

Gaming once isolated and separate can be superimposed to daily activity. Thus, gamers must manage mobility and take into account a bystander’s presence. Game use on the mobile triggers three kinds of sociability : the first one, a bot sociability, is defined by collective usage, face to face, in the same location for the duration of the game. The second is tepid, defined as collective, through a virtual link, involving also unknown people. Additional components such as chat, webcam or instant messaging, can contribute to a doser feel. The third kind of sociability is cold. Here the game is played alone and can be superimposed with other activities. In transit places, games must be ready to use, packaged to end in five minutes. In seated places, for longer durations, in order to renew interest, games must be thousand and one night games with distribution changes at every play. As soon as a pat-tuer is ready to play, depending on he or she is present or whether there’s a virtual link. It is possible to switch from one kind of sociabilitv to another, without changing nor the support. For the game, nor the plaver

Full textThis PhD thesis has for objective to propose solutions to interactive storytelling problems. We aim to propose a design method for the authors, as well as a logic of execution using this model to control the narrative unfolding. We apply our works in the video games context, but wish to address interactive storytelling in a wider dimension. We so approach the interactive story as a breakdown of the classic storytelling. Indeed, interactive storytelling creation process is not any more only under the author responsability, but also involves spectators. Through a review of the classic storytelling, we thus wish, at first, to formalize storytelling and its stakes. We use then the concept of ”œuvre en mouvement” to identify processes and actors involved in this creation process of a work, and thus to define the stakes in our research works. We propose an interactive storytelling mode base on automata. This one allows a controland a check on possible narratives, during design as well as dynamically while producing the story. However this formalism is complex to handle by authors. So, we formulate a top-level model, based on storytelling concepts, allowing authors to create an interactive story model using concepts they know. This model is then converted into our automaton based model. The latter serves then as referent for the dynamic control of the interactive storytelling, done by a supervisor multi-agents. This one, by observing produced events in the video game, is then able of controlling and guarantee the quality criteria specified by authors. We propose an implementation of our approach in a framework, including authoring tools to edite our models. We also implements automata check and supervision algorithms necessary to control video game virtual universe

Full textThe main interrogation of this thesis is: “What are the cognitive processes involved in judgments of potential conflict given by air traffic controllers? “. To answer this question we investigated the risk judgments about conflict between two aircraft given by expert and novice air traffic controllers following the approach of the lens of Brunswik (1952) and the model of integrating information of Anderson (1996). The application of these two models to the risk judgments allow us to identify particular components that have a major role in shaping judgments and specify the rules governing integration. This application is developed across three empirical studies: the first relates to risk judgments issued by air traffic controllers' experts and students. In this study we propose a model of risk judgments based on three variables. The second study is a test of the proposed model and an analysis of the rules of integrating information. And the last study incorporates several elements in shaping judgments. We demonstrate that it is crucial to adopt an individual differences approach to study judgments by air traffic controllers. Also, these findings should have implications for developing user-friendly interfaces with conflict detection devices and for devising ATC training programs

Full textDue to anthropic pressure and sediment transport pathway modification, the fine sand beach Roberts Bank (Fraser Delta, Canada) is under significant erosion. Measurements and modeling allow us to identify hydrodynamics and sedimentary processes associated with tidal currents and waves. During flood flow, sedimentary structures provide significant bed roughness to create clouds of resuspended sediment from the bottom. During the ebb flow, offshore sediment transport occurs in a surface plume originating from tidal creek outflow and shallow water resuspension. A process of mixing-induced convective sedimentation increases the particles settling. Storm incident waves, morphology, and tidal elevation influenced sediment transport divergence. Sediment transport is onshore at high tide and offshore a low tide. Storm set-up with ebb current and rip-current may play a role in offshore sediment transport

Full textGeometry in primary school is a familiarization with geometric shapes and their properties through the use of geometrical instruments. Geometric objects are based on diagrams and the geometric relationships are often implicit. The introduction of a dynamic geometry software (here TracenPoche) is thus a way to explain how to see « the diagram » as « a figure ». Five situations are given to three teachers. We have built them with « integration modes » from Assude (2007). We proposed an a priori analysis in three stages (Assude and Mercier, 2007), the first a priori analysis - the viewpoint of mathematical knowledge - , the second a priori analysis - students action modelized by the praxeology (Chevallard, 1998) - and the third a priori analysis - the teacher's point of view - . The Situations established in classrooms are described and analyzed using elements of the joint action theory (Sensevy, 2011). We describe the joint action of the teacher and students as a game of the teacher on the student, thereby enabling an analysis of the dynamic of the teaching work and of the evolution of the "seeing a diagram as a figure." The results of this thesis, as part of the exploratory engineering (Perrin-Glorian, 2009), show how geometrical objects can be worked jointly in a paper-and-pencil environment and in a Tracenpoche environment, highlighting the characteristics of the joint action of the teacher and students in the explanation of geometric relationships. The teachers demonstrate initiatives that prove particularly interesting with regard to mathematical issues, and which could be the basis for further research in cooperative engineering (Sensevy & al., 2013)
Thiéry, Christophe. "Itération sur les politiques optimiste et apprentissage du jeu de Tetris." Thesis, Nancy 1, 2010. http://www.theses.fr/2010NAN10128/document.
Full textThis thesis studies policy iteration methods with linear approximation of the value function for large state space problems in the reinforcement learning context. We first introduce a unified algorithm that generalizes the main stochastic optimal control methods. We show the convergence of this unified algorithm to the optimal value function in the tabular case, and a performance bound in the approximate case when the value function is estimated. We then extend the literature of second-order linear approximation algorithms by proposing a generalization of Least-Squares Policy Iteration (LSPI) (Lagoudakis and Parr, 2003). Our new algorithm, Least-Squares [lambda] Policy Iteration (LS[lambda]PI), adds to LSPI an idea of [lambda]-Policy Iteration (Bertsekas and Ioffe, 1996): the damped (or optimistic) evaluation of the value function, which allows to reduce the variance of the estimation to improve the sampling efficiency. Thus, LS[lambda]PI offers a bias-variance trade-off that may improve the estimation of the value function and the performance of the policy obtained. In a second part, we study in depth the game of Tetris, a benchmark application that several works from the literature attempt to solve. Tetris is a difficult problem because of its structure and its large state space. We provide the first full review of the literature that includes reinforcement learning works, evolutionary methods that directly explore the policy space and handwritten controllers. We observe that reinforcement learning is less successful on this problem than direct policy search approaches such as the cross-entropy method (Szita et Lorincz, 2006). We finally show how we built a controller that outperforms the previously known best controllers, and shortly discuss how it allowed us to win the Tetris event of the 2008 Reinforcement Learning Competition

Full textHuman resources play a crucial role in production systems. On one hand, they have to be multi-skilled and flexible to carry out various tasks. On the other hand, they must be assigned to the different machines in the system so as to satisfy industrial performances. However, it is often difficult to make decisions about the number, skills and workers assignment strategies, particularly when systems are characterized by random, changing and fluctuating demand and when there are multiple objectives to be optimized. In this context, the present thesis aims first to determine how to assign workers to machines. Second, it aims to define the number of workers and the required skills in order to reduce production times and manpower costs. Two heuristics are then proposed to assign workers dynamically, on line, each time they become idle. The choice of the machine is based on a multi criteria analysis of the current state of the system using TOPSIS method for the first heuristic and a restriction method based on numerical thresholds for the second one. The criteria used are chosen through a serious game (a dedicated Visual Interactive Simulation) implemented using ARENA software. In order to optimize the weights of these criteria and the numerical thresholds and to adapt the proposed heuristics, we used a simulation optimization, which integrates both of the random and fluctuating dimensions of the demand. The results of comparisons with the most used assignment strategies in the literature have shown the interest and relevance of our heuristics. In order to optimize the number of workers and their skills, we proposed an approach based on simulation and an evolutionary multi-objective algorithm (NSGAII). We suggest accepting some redundancy on skills so as to reduce the impact of worker absenteeism on system performance. In order to take into account the changing and fluctuating behavior of production systems, we have integrated in our optimization approach the most efficient assignment heuristic among the proposed ones. A simulation model of a job shop system has been used to illustrate our approach. The results obtained on all non-dominated solutions showed the relevance of the proposed approach

Full textSerious games seem a relevant proposition for a more open offer for young audience and a more creative works' presentations taking advantages of the opportunities of digital technologies. Such proposition already exist but, as far as I know, what they should be exactly has never been studied. What kind of games are the more appropriate for museums ? Which experiences do gaming visitors expect ? How to manage their satisfaction about their visit and about playing a real game ? These are the questions this PhD thesis contribute to answer.I based my reflection and my proposals on the analyse of projects devoted to cultural mediation in which I participated, on the research studies about serious games, visitors and gamers experience and on my professional background in cultural mediation and software engineering. I propose the notion of "visit game", appropriate for a more differentiated public, and build a model of this type of game around the concept of "adaptable mission". It allows to dynamically modify its components and its context of execution, depending on the experience expected by and for the gaming visitor

Full textThe gearbox is an important component of an automobile and its development is complex. Numerous constraints must be taken into account, particularly its noise and vibration behavior. This aspect of the conception is nowadays poorly mastered and the noise pollution of gearboxes, such as the rattle noise, are often discovered late. The aim of this work was the development of a numerical model of gear dynamics adapted to gearboxes’ modelling and allowing to predict the conditions of gear rattle noise appearance. The model proposed in this thesis is based on an original combination of different models and is applicable to the vast majority of gearboxes. Flexible components, such as shafts and housings are modeled by the finite element method. A gear model based on Kelvin-Voigt contact model is developed. It allows to take into account the contact losses and the back side contacts. To complete this model, mechanical loss models are implemented in order to take into account the influence of the bearings, plain bearings, synchronizers and gears’ immersion in oil. This model coupled with a noise indicator allows for sensitivity analyzes to identify influential parameters on the rattle noise but also to compare the dynamic behavior of different configurations. Finally, a test campaign on an industrial gerbox is conducted and simulation results are confronted to measurements

The purpose of this study was to examine possible determinants on the functional dynamics of high level men's Volleyball, in complex I. Hence, variables related to the internal dimension of the game were considered, regarding the dimensions of space, time, task, player, and performance, allied to the team's competitive level (determined by the ranking within the analyzed competition). A total of 1698 sequences from the opponent's serve were analyzed. From these, 1486 allowed serve reception, 1363 allowed setting, and 1344 culminated in attack and blocking actions. These sequences were retrieved from 19 matches between the ten best National Teams, according to their classification on the 2006 Men's World Championships. Data was recorded in video support. The observation instrument was previously tested, following criteria for construction and content validation. Data analysis consisted in descriptive statistics (frequencies and percentages), and inferential statistics, namely multinomial logistic regression, with the purpose of measuring the predictive effect of independent variables upon a dependent variable. Intra- and inter-observer reliability was assessed with Cohen's Kappa. Our sample revealed a highly effective game in Complex I, configured by actions of excellent quality, from serve reception to the attack, consequently generating disadvantageous situations for the opponent's block. Results evidenced that the functional dynamics of Complex I are relatively stable and deterministic. However, the opponent's interference level has influenced the predictive power of the analysis dimensions since the attack effect was less determinant than the reception effect, due to the high interaction between attacker and opponent. The functional dynamics of Complex I are strongly determined by the serve, which, in turn, had predictive power over the blocking action. Teams from distinct performance levels have evidenced different characteristics within the functional dynamics of Complex I and related features of Complex II. Hence, the Championship's final ranking allowed differentiating the quality of the practiced game.

Full textThis thesis studies the role of moral emotions in the decision making of agents when they face asocial dilemma. The first two chapters present a large literature review, which gathers research inexperimental economics, in social psychology and in the management of organizations, in order to delineatethe way moral emotions, and specifically gratitude, are able to influence the economical decision process. Inthe third chapter, through a review of works in the field of behavioral economics, we take an interest in theprogressive integration of moral emotions into economic modeling. We thus show how this integration, whichis concurrent with the emergence of social preferences models, allows agents' decision-making processes to berepresented in a more realistic way, in situations where the behaviors that are observed empirically challengean egoistic and materialistic vision of people. In chapter four, the public good game is presented in detail, along with the main experimental results associated with it, in order to understand why this game suits theformal analysis of moral emotions' influence. Finally, our work culminates in the development of an originalmodel in behavioral economics, during chapters five and six, which aims at assessing how the emergence ofmoral emotions can influence, both statically and dynamically, the strategic choice of individuals in the publicgood game, and how the introduction of a reward phase can promote cooperation and help individuals todevelop good interpersonal relationships

Full textActive flow control research field has high application potential, particularly in the transportation industry, where improving performance while reducing energy consumption represents major economic and environmental challenges. In this context, one of the objectives is to optimize control solutions to ensure a favorable global energy balance. In this thesis, we propose to tackle the question of the actuator choice (conventionally done by trial-and-error) by sharpening the understanding of the dynamic interaction between the actuator and the external flow. To do this, we analyzed the dynamic interaction between a turbulent boundary layer and four types of actuators commonly used in flow control : continuous, pulsed, synthetic and sweeping jet actuators. Thus, a three-dimensional reconstruction methodology based on local time-resolved velocity measurements is developed, which enabled to restore the flow dynamics. This methodology is based on two approaches : one, involving conditional processing, and the other, involving neural networks. These methods enabled the characterization of the intrinsic dynamic of the flow induced by the actuators, as well as the dynamic of their interactions with a turbulent boundary layer. Thanks to these characterizations, the physical phenomena involved were highlighted, as well as the control mechanisms associated with them. These results can be used in future flow control studies to optimize the choice of fluid actuators, based on the configuration and the control objective

Full textIn this thesis, the author explores the link between virtual and reality as a means of demonstrating the stakes at play in the identifications teenagers establish with their avatars in videogames. The idea is that these identifications play a key role in the development of some psychopathologies. In particular, the phenomenon of the cyber-narcissistic object relation is presented. This mechanism seems to be involved in excessive video-gaming. The thesis is divided in three parts: first, the theoretical framework oriented on psychoanalytic theories is defined; second, an empirical study based on results from a multiple choice questionnaire (N = 67) is presented; and third, a clinical part is laid out on 12 case studies that emerged from the author’s practice, as well as on two cases of teenagers hospitalized in child psychiatry due to excessive video-gaming. Finally, the possibilities of including videogames in psychotherapeutic processes are presented and discussed

Full textThis study seeks to trace the evolution of Virginia Woolf's writing in her nine novels which draw upon the notion of in-betweenness and operate through a dynamic tension between dialectic polarities. After a close reading of the opening pages of the novels, the analysis focuses on visual patterns and significant forms which reveal elusive networks of meaning wavering between appearance and disappearance. Then, time and memory are explored in terms of their relation to artistic creation and to the interactive signifying process at work in the metaphor. Finally, indeterminacy and plurality are addressed more extensively : the text is approached as a play ground of reverberating forces, a space haunted by endless lines of variation and an open territory of interaction between author and reader. Writing thus becomes an experience of what Woolf calls " the flowing and the unpossessed ", shared by a " common reader " taking part in the creative process rising out of this textual intercourse

Full textFaced with new clinical, institutional and societal realities, family therapists are increasingly called upon to adjust their “settings”, introducing new configurations of Psychoanalytic Family Therapy which challenge the epistemological foundations of the reference model. The author proposes to approach this issue in an auto-meta twofold perspective, covering on one hand a reflection on the fundamental invariants of the psychoanalytic family action; on the other the development of some vertices from which to grasp in an integrative approach her contemporary patterns of clinical actualization. Based on the differential analysis of the processual logic at work in two “adjusted” PFT, this research proposes to identify axes for a transversal reading in connection with the specific terms of the family work of transitionality mobilized in situations where the classical therapeutic operators are not accessible, operative or usable by the families. Specifically set for thinking are the conditions for which various forms of concrete interactional experiences can then play the role of substitute for the family oniric sharing, through a co-constructive process, in a found/created mode within the neo-group, of the setting’s transitional resources. Suggesting to conceive the “family preconscious work” as a metapsychological reference transversal to the different PFT practices, the author sketches some modelling perspectives relating to the “outsight effect” that organizes its deployment in these conditions where the interfantasmatic dynamics support itself with a detour passing by the external reality of materialized shorings (institutional meta-setting, therapeutic mediums). This angle of approach invites to reconsider the “classical psychoanalytic family cure” precepts, built on the dream model, in the light of processual expression’s ways and forms taking more from the play model but belonging to the same profound essence

Full textThe dissertation is made of three chapters in economic theory and non-cooperative game theory. Chapter oneand two analyze tournament situations in which two agents compete over T periods for a promotion or a prize. In these two chapters, we analyze the dynamic tournament literature initiated by Dubey and Wu (2001) and Dubey and Haimanko (2003). In chapter 1, we bring one of the hidden faces of tournament games. It is indeed shown that in some class of tournament games, the prize or bonus awarded to the winner has an information aspect. Some futher results give a new interpretation of the equilibrium between the designer of the tournmentand the contestants by way of some decompositions of the programm of the principal. In chapter 2, we introduce the possibility for the principal to choose the allocation mechanism interpreted as a committee that will decide of the successful candidate. Our main finding shows that it is optimal for the principal to choose a random allocation of the prize which is not always in favour of the most productive agent. The third chapter is related to the non-cooperative game theory literature and deals with an epistemic justification of some set valued concepts recently introduced in the literature (Tercieux (2002) and Asheim and Dufwenberg (2001, 2003)). Considering finite normal form games, we assume that players hold p-beliefs about a certain amount of cautiousness of their opponent and that they believe his opponent maximizes his subjective expected utility. We show that players satisfy these assumptions if and only if they choose strategies that are contained in a certain class of p-best response sets

Full textThe world we are in : dynamic games relative to climate change. In these games the setting up of a carbon tax has Pigouvian grounds (to take into account the damage resulting of the accumulation of Green House Gas in the atmosphere due to the consumption of fossil energy) but it has also other aims that are strategic. For fossil energy consuming countries, indeed, a carbon tax can be a way to "eat" a part of the producing countries' rent. Then the resulting carbon tax has a Pigouvian part but also a strategic part. The literature developed during the last twenty years in this field is all about non cooperative games between an area of cartelized consuming countries and an area of cartelized producing countries. In the introduction, we lay out the economic framework of this type of games, their analytical framework (differential games) and the theoretical literature. Then the three original games that make up the bulk of the present work are introduced. Each of the three following chapters is devoted to one of these three games. The first one is a non-cooperative game between an area of consuming countries and an area of producing countries but with an upper limit of atmospheric carbon concentration as the main environmental constraint. This new type of constraint changes the classical results of this type of game. The second one is also a non-cooperative game between an area of consuming countries (here the old rich countries) and an area of producing countries but there is also another area of consuming countries (poor and emergent countries) that does not play the game while it sets up the tax resulting of the game. The setting up of such a tax in this area is the consequence of a transfer from the other consuming area. The conclusion is that under specific conditions this area (but also the financing area) wins some welfare in this framework versus a passive behavior in front of the producers. In the last game, there are also two consuming areas but now they play a non-cooperative game between themselves, while the producing area is passive. In consequence there is not a worldwide carbon tax but two regional carbon taxes. However, under some specific conditions, this framework is better for the two consuming areas than the passive attitude in front of the producers. The main conclusion of the three games is that in some circumstances the consuming countries can get some extra welfare from a strategic stance when setting up a carbon tax

Full textThe economic agents who participate in a market do not usually have the same information about this environment. Often, the most informed agent moves before the others and hence, transmits some information to them. The equilibrium analysis makes it possible to characterize the development of such confrontations (or "games") between the agents. However a major problem with this approach is due to the fact that a game often has several equilibrium; thus giving a weak predictive power to the analysis. The purpose of this thesis is to analyze and define criteria whose aim is to reduce the set of equilibrium in games of incomplete information. We are interested in the criteria based on the principle of forward induction. According to this principle, a disequilibrium move should not be considered as a mistake of the deviating player, but rather as a sign of his aspiration to be better off than in equilibrium

Full textThis thesis is inspired from a game occurring among insect parasitoids, which, competing for hosts via which they can reproduce, attack the progeny of their fellows. One refers to superparasitism. In many species, hosts are patchily distributed in the environment. The spatiotemporal framework of this game is thus that of the patch. Patch whose composition, in terms of healthy and parasitized hosts, evolves during the game, hence its dynamic component. First, we introduce dynamic games through an original result which deals with uncoupling Isaacs equations in two-player nonzero-sum differential games. It is illustrated by an example which addresses the conflict over parental care in monogamous species. Second, we revisit classical optimal foraging theory, which we extend to a game-theoretical framework. Arises a sequence of war of attrition, sometimes separated by respite periods. Finally, we address superparasitism as a differential game and it turns out that, this time, superparasitism does not necessarily lead to a war of attrition. It open prospects both on the mathematical (singularities in nonzero-sum differential games) and biological sides (laboratory experiments)

Full textIn this thesis, we study various models of dynamic games. These model decision-making processes taken by rational agents in strategic interactions and whose situation changes over time. The first chapter is devoted to stochastic games. In these, the current game depends on a state of nature, which evolves randomly from one stage to the next depending on the current state as well as the actions of the players, who observe these elements. We study communication properties between states, when the state space is in the form of a product X × Y, and players control the dynamics on their components of the state space. The existence of optimal strategies in any long enough repeated game, i.e., the existence of the uniform value, is proved under the assumption of strong communication on one side. We prove the non-convergence of the value of the discounted game, which implies the non-existence of the asymptotic value, under the assumption of weak communication on both sides. The next two chapters are devoted to models of search games. A searcher and a hider act on a search space. The searcher’s objective is typically to find the hider as quickly as possible, or to maximize the probability of finding him in a given time. The challenge is then to calculate the value and optimal strategies of the players according to the geometry of the search space. In a patrolling game, an attacker chooses a time and place to attack, while a patroller walks continuously. When the attack occurs, the patroller has a fixed amount of time to locate the attacker. In a stochastic search game, players act on a graph. The novelty of the model is that due to various events, at each stage, some edges may not be available, so the graph evolves randomly over time. Finally, the last chapter is devoted to a model of repeated games with incomplete information called dynamic control of information. An advisor has a private knowledge of the state of nature, which changes randomly over time. Every day, the advisor chooses the amount of information he discloses to an investor through messages. In turn, the investor chooses whether or not to invest in order to maximize her daily expected payoff. In the event of an investment, the advisor receives a fixed commission from the investor. His objective is then to maximize the discounted frequency of days on which investment takes place. We are interested in a specific information disclosure strategy of the advisor called the greedy strategy. It is a stationary strategy with the property of minimizing the amount of information disclosed under the constraint of maximizing the advisor’s current payoff

Full textIn Fourier space the problem has a Lagrangian formulation which permits a simple qualitative discussion concerning the nature of the interaction between the perturbation and the zonal flow. We have found new conservation laws that give insight into the dynamics of the jet. These results show a significant difference between the dynamics of easterlies and westerlies.
Using results from the theory of Lie groups we have obtained a number of distinct separation of variables for a $ geq -$.25 in the long wave approximation. This allow the initial value problem to be completely solved and also provides a number of exact solutions which are localized in y. For certain values of "a" these have a simple analytical form that permits a comparison with previous results for a linear zonal wind. As in the uniform shear case we observe a temporary amplification for certain initial conditions, whose nature now depends on "a".
We have shown that for an arbitrary initial condition of small amplitude (of order $ varepsilon$), the linearity hypothesis is invalidated when a $ ll$ 1 after a time of the order of $ varepsilon sp{-1}$ in a critical layer of width of order $ epsilon sp{1/2}$ centered at the jet extremum. We have also obtained the governing equations for the nonlinear evolution stage, which have a striking similarity with those for a forced Rossby wave on a linear wind profile.

Full textThis thesis is devoted to the study of several related models of dynamical interaction from a game theoretical perpective. In the first part, we are interested in repeated interactions in discrete time in a minimal information framework. In the second part, we analyse several models in continuous time with special interest in the replicator dynamics. The sequel is devoted to the study of a learning process in continuous time where players observe a perturbed version of their actual payoff, and its link with the evolutionary game theory. The final part focuses on a two-level dynamics in order to model a multi-level selection phenomenon
