AbstractThis paper is based on ethnographic research with Ju|’hoan San in Botswana starting in 1970 and on translation and transcription work with Ju|’hoan San trackers from Namibia who travelled to the Caves du Volp in the French Pyrenees in 2013 to do archaeological work. The Tracking in Caves project, headed by German archaeologists Andreas Pastoors and Tilman Lenssen-Erz, was investigating fossilized human footprints in the caves dating back to around 17,000 calBP. The paper discusses three main verbal formats that can provide useful information to the archaeology of tracking: (1) narrative in the form of folktales and other oral forms referring to animal behaviour, (2) talk in the form of accounts of actual hunts, and (3) consensual discussion in the form of deliberations among trackers as they seek to gain many types of information from tracks. The paper outlines how the trackers and the archaeologists, after an initial period of misunderstanding and miscommunication, mutually learned from each other and eventually bonded on the basis of the scientific method. It does so by drawing on evidence from narrative, talk, and consensual discussion. By investigating verbal data provided by People’s Science, the Tracking in Caves project shows us that skill in tracking, using the tools of egalitarian communication and based on extensive environmental knowledge, has been an enabling feature of the long human story.

Abstract The turbulent wake of an axisymmetric generic space launcher equipped with a dual-bell nozzle is simulated at transonic ($$Ma_\infty = 0.8$$ and $$Re_D = 4.3\cdot 10^5$$) and supersonic ($$Ma_\infty = 3$$ and $$Re_D = 1.2\cdot 10^6$$) freestream conditions, to investigate the influence of the dual-bell nozzle jet onto the wake flow and vice versa. In addition, flow control by means of four in circumferential direction equally distributed jets injecting air encountering the backflow in the recirculation region is utilized to determine if the coherence of the wake and consequently, the buffet loads can be reduced by flow control. The simulations are performed using a zonal RANS/LES approach. The time-resolved flow field data are analyzed by classical spectral analysis, two-point correlation analysis, and dynamic mode decomposition (DMD). At supersonic freestream conditions, the nozzle counter pressure is reduced by the expansion of the outer flow around the nozzle lip leading to a decreased transition nozzle pressure ratio. In the transonic configuration a spatio-temporal mode with an eigenvalue matching the characteristic buffet frequency of $$Sr_D=0.2$$ is extracted by the spectral and DMD analysis. The spatial shape of the detected mode describes an antisymmetric wave-like undulating motion of the shear layer inducing the low frequency dynamic buffet loads. By flow control this antisymmetric coherent motion is weakened leading to a reduction of the buffet loads on the nozzle fairing.

The paper addresses deviations from the standard language norm on the grammatical level. Although it is expected of teachers of Croatian to display the highest degree of competence at all levels of language (description), an analysis of essays written by trainee teachers of Croatian at the licence examination revealed a deviation from the standard language norm. The paper uses a corpus of 90 essays to analyse the incorrect use of conjunctions budući (da) and jer, s obzirom na to da, kako... tako, followed by the preposition kroz, the change of government relations of the verb koristiti (se), as well as the non-normative spelling of Future I tense when the enclitic follows the verb ending in -ti, and the position of the enclitic within the sentence. The paper objective is to define the reasons and frequency of such deviations and using the cognitive model of grammatical competence, we will ascertain if the deviations are exclusively mistakes or we can speak of doublets or even linguistic changes.

Abstract:
Avtor postavi teoretično izhodišče in konceptualizacijo ruralnega in urbanega družbenega življenja izpelje iz tez klasičnih avtorjev (Marx, Tönnies, Durkheim, Polany, Weber). V poglavju se osredotoča na vprašanje pojmovanja in razumevanja ruralnosti, temeljne značilnosti skupnostnega življenja v slovenskih ruralnih in urbanih skupnostih ter na iskanje razlik med ruralnimi, suburbanimi in urbanimi območji. S pomočjo sekundarne analize podatkov raziskave Varnost v lokalnih skupnostih (2017) in Slovensko javno mnenje 2016/1 (Kurdija et al., 2016) prikazuje in razlaga razlike o zaznavanju varnostnih groženj med ruralnimi in urbanimi skupnostmi v Sloveniji. Zaključuje, da je mogoče opaziti demografske razlike (vera, stopnja izobrazbe, narodnost itd.) in tudi razlike v razumevanju življenja v skupnosti. Ob koncu se avtor dotakne tudi prednosti in slabosti ter pomena podeželja ob soočanju z ukrepi za preprečevanje širjenja novega koronavirusa in covida-19.
