Full textAThe use of violent acts is studied mainly in male adolescents, while the suffering of girls is discussed in terms of hurting their own body, through singular psychopathological symptoms (eating disorders, attacks to the body, scarification ...). This research considers the place and role of being female in the use of violent acts by teenage offenders, with a corresponding number of questions about the meaning of these violent acts, as an expression of a possible change in the present symptomatology of adolescence. The question of specificity of violence from young girls, especially during the adolescent process, particularly the process undermining the concepts of normal and pathological will be asked, as well as the relationship between trauma, femininity, and use of violent acts. The theoretical reference is the psychoanalytic psychopathology in both aspects, intrapsychic and intersubjective, taking into account the tie between the psychic architecture of the subject and the meeting with socius. The methodology is based on a clinical approach, based on interviews and the placing of projective tests, with adolescents who have committed illegal violent acts. This research highlights the variety of psychic functioning in which meet the violent act, the balance of identifications in access to a calm femininity, tempering the impact of trauma and the importance of the sociocultural context in which these violent acts are deployed

Full textIn vladimir nabokov's fiction, maidens are omnipresent. They intensely embody beauty in a paradoxical manner, because of their ephemeral existence and hybrid nature. These ambivalent characters, who stand on the threshold of childhood and womanhood, are both innocent and perverse, beautiful and vulgar, fictive and verisimilar. They are transient and metamorphic figures who challenge representation. To evoke them, nabokov's writing relies on metamorphosis and indirection: their characterization resorts to doubles and massive intertextual and pictorial reference, to fix their ever-escaping image in words. Maidens seem to resist description: the depiction of their changing and desirable bodies are inevitably fragmented, or persistently focus on clothing rather than on the body itself. In fact, nabokov prefers showing the veil covering the maiden to undressing her: he thus favors the ornament, a trend which is stylistically echoed in the amazing rhythm, metaphors, and sound effects in which his text of desire is dressed. Those descriptions sensually appeal to all the senses (nabokov was a synaesthete), and reflect the sensuousness of lolita and her cousins. Moreover, synaesthesia places a mirror between the pleasure of the writer and the pleasure of the reader. In those instances, nabokov's language is as beautiful as the young girl it describes, and it also asserts its own beauty, by metatextually calling attention to its musical and pictorial qualities. Therefore, the way nabokov works the signifier is not only underscored, but the gap between signifier and signified is further stated, and even exhibited, for it is in that opening that senses and sense can vibrate

Full textScientific literature has got a long tradition in studying juvenile deliquency but little has been done concerning the involvement of girls in delinquency. The researcher aimed to approach feminine deviance and delinquency through an interactionnist perspective considering that behaviour results from a social construction that she tried to deconstruct and set back into a coherent social context contrary to a biological or naturalising approach. The feminist theories point the lack of studies on violence or deliquency perpetrated by young girls. This thesis work set out to investigate this specific social issue, to achieve a better understanding of the phenomenon and of the way of life of school girls (aged 12 to 16) living in urban socially deprived areas (Marseille, Paris, Bordeaux). In that purpose the researcher performed some ethnographical work in the above mentioned areas and did a secondary data analysis of the quantitative data collected for the national survey on school climate and violence lend by Debarbieux (1999). She also led about one hundred interviews with girls. The researcher examined the place and role of girls in the pyramidal organization of delinquency in Paris, their way of life and own perceptions about it. She also observed how they had occupied the urban space as a socialising space that reproduces gender and social inequalities. She also carried out some observation work within the school context trying to assess school climate and how girls grew opposition to schooling. The researcher outlined the juvenile socialization system pupils called the "law of the stronger" which enabled her to analyse the identity building process underlying deviant behaviours. Within this socializing context, some of the girl are offenders but others are victims since not all of them comply with the code of conduct the same way. The "weak" ones are used by the stronger to strengthen their status with their peers. In that purpose, the ones the researcher calls the "cheekies" use traditional "male sex role" as aggressivity, strength demonstrations, macho behaviour, reproducing logics of discrimination and inequality they suffer from others

Full textThe shopping activity practised between girlfriends appears to be very popular within the teenager girls’ population. Yet, there are very few studies describing the shopping activity as experienced by girl teenagers. Our research aims to shed a light on this consumption experience and on interactions between peers within the retail stores. We focused our work on a qualitative approach by adhering to the principles of the Grounded Theory. In that context of inductive position, we have conducted ten interviews with groups of girlfriends, collected photographic material, interviewed eight privileged players who are familiar with teenagers' issues and conducted observation sessions in retail stores. The results linked to the routes analysis show that there is a "before" and an "after" shopping; and, thus, teenager girls build consumption routes and rituals. Data triangulation performed also showed the importance of the identity issue in the shopping activity practised between girls peer groups. This technique highlights the teenager girls’ expertise and skills in terms of shopping as well as the importance of peer groups in the process of product selection. We have also observed teenager girls personal universes through pictures of their rooms they have taken themselves. We have detected in these pictures signals allowing to analyse their identity structuring process which appears to be swinging between childhood and adulthood

Full textThe Second World War has generated an important body of literature for young people, especially in English-speaking countries. Far from concentrating on battlefields scenes, many authors choose the Home front as background for their stories and depict the lives of women and children in wartime. This literature is therefore a major source of information on their roles either during the London Blitz, in the occupied countries in the resistance movements or merely in everyday life, when these social categories are usually seen as minor actors. Yet, women and children, just like men, have incurred gruesome ordeals, from the British evacuation to incarceration in concentration camps, where those fragile populations were the first to be eliminated. The books from our corpus, often autobiographical accounts, give us an essential wealth of portraits and representations for this period

Full textBehavioural factors (nutrition, physical activity) role in the prevalence of metabolic dysfunctions in adolescent girls with Type 1 diabetes remains almost unexplored. In turn, physical activity and fitness levels could be affected by these dysfunctions. Study 1 shows that physical fitness deterioration with puberty in diabetic girls may be linked to a physical activity decrease as well as a body composition alteration and is accompanied (Study 2) by an altered sympatho-adrenergic response to intense exercise. Study 3 specifies, in diabetic adolescent girls, the metabolic dysfunctions (particularly an original pattern for adiponectin). They are associated with physical inactivity but not with dietary intake. Moreover, 6 months physical training improve body composition, physical fitness, apolipoprotein profile, and prevent leptin increase (Study 4). Physical activity may thus be an important therapeutic adjunct for diabetic adolescent girls to manage cardiovascular risk factors

Sexual Exploitation is a complex international phenomenon with significant physical, psychological and social consequences for victims and survivors. It affects not only adults, but also minors, and females are particularly vulnerable. To date, descriptive and explanatory studies have addressed the phenomenon of sexual exploitation from the macro-sociological and feminist perspective. Thus, current knowledge about victimization script of sexual exploitation is limited and, therefore, early screening and detection for prevention are also limited. To overcome this limitation, the present research proposes to present the victimization script of sexual exploitation for this population. The current study is also concerned about the victim’s perceptions and cognitive trajectories that may play a role in shaping the script. The sample consists of 19 girls who received services from the Quebec’s Child Welfare system regarding a referral related to a situation of sexual exploitation. The analytic strategy includes a grounded theory approach of victim’s perceptions throughout their experience. The results allowed to describe victims identification, the recruitment and control strategies used by exploiters as well as the nature of the exploitation. The link between the victims’ cognitive patterns through the script steps and their evolution across sexual exploitation experiences is also presented. These findings highlight suitable situational prevention strategies and promising avenues of intervention according to the cognitive trajectory of the victims. This research contributes to the advancement of knowledge about victims of sexual exploitation, the context of this form of victimization, the theoretical approach to criminal scripts, and the interpersonal and cognitive behavioral script of sexual exploitation.

Zerai, Zeineb. "Apprentissage du handball chez les jeunes filles tunisiennes et françaises : apport de la verbalisation." Thesis, Besançon, 2011. http://www.theses.fr/2011BESA1055/document.
Full textThis work represents a research process that consisted in exploring numerical indices and qualitative criteria in order to study decision making with two groups of girls from two different cultural backgrounds (French and Tunisian). Through this study we hope to contribute to the development of a body of knowledge relative to team sports, including female handball at school. Specifically, our ambition is to generalize observational tools and methods giving access to more pertinent and precise information on what actually happens in game play with respect to the opposition relationship. The different experimentations show the effect of the learning condition with verbalization on the action project and on the pertinence of choices in configurations of play during game play. There is an unquestionable interest for the construction of long term tactical knowledge in relation to the implementation of an actual motor semiotic activity in handball.Small-sided games constitute a fundamental learning tool in team sport didactics. Relating thought in and on action offers students differentiated ways for making progress. Reflective feedback on game play generates its improvement, for it provides access to action rules. By insuring rigor in the research process and by keeping in mind the clarification of the various stages of our work, we tried to contribute to the development of team sport didactics at school

Full textIn the last few years, the concept of sexual agency has been used by many English-language studies on youth and women to describe the ability to take control of one’s own body and sexuality. While the term is rarely used in informal English, it appears even less frequently in French. One way that young women can exercise their sexual agency is for them to take an active role by seeking answers to their questions about their own sexuality. Using an innovative "private" blog method, combined with in-depth interviews, we sought to determine how teenage girls and young women ages 17 to 21 are using the Internet to learn about sexuality. We then interviewed the participants about the situations where they exercise (or refrain to exercise) sexual agency in their lives. In this thesis, we propose a definition of sexual agency, describe the method we have developed, and then discuss our results. We show that the participants use the Internet to gather information on a wide variety of sexual topics, but using the Internet has some limitations when a participant's situation is worrisome or taboo. Although Internet seems to serve well their needs related to "physical" matters, the participants don’t really use Internet to address their more "psychological" or "relational" concerns. They also do not grant the same credence to some Internet sources as they do to their friends, doctors or parents. We also show that the participants, in their sexual encounters, have integrated some agentic messages, such as "No means no", but show some lack of sexual agency when their partner is more experienced or insistent. Finally, we will see that our method of private blogs mixed with in-depth interviews is an ideal method for gathering qualitative data on sensitive topics such as sexuality.

Full textObservers tend to agree that juvenile violence is becoming more mainstream. This tendency is seen as an educational challenge. The author reviews the available quantitative and qualitative facts. Based on the analysis of 300 educational reports of social workers, episodes of violence in various youth centres in the Haute Savoie are then analysed. The foundations of the educational function are revisited in perspective to various educational models and authors and interviews with social workers confronted to "difficult" youths. An operational model is then developed and discussed which highlights the dialectic articulation between the ethics of the subject, the handling of comprehensive theories and the manifestation of a "mètis" in action

Full textAs a rule in order to treat the capacity or incapacity of individuals, law separates them in people who have came of age and minors. As a minor the subject is juridically incapable. As a person of age he is capable of all the acts of civil life. He may legitimately commit himself to a thirst party and answer for his acts. But is the separation between people of full age and minors absolute ? to remedy the anachronism of this principle, the legislator turns to exceptions. At times the attributes parts of capacity or just simply an anticipated majority when the subject hasn't yet reached 18, age of his majority ; at others he extends minority or some of its aspects when the subject has reached majority. Would these exceptions allow to presume the existence of an intermediate class between child hood and adult hood which would include young people from (15) 16 to 21 ? the link between older youngsters (15) 16, 17) and young adults (18 to 21) in certainly adolescence. But nothing allows to assert that adolescence, which is social historical reality, is or soon will become a juridical reality

Full textThis thesis is based on the observation of the lack of physical activity (PA) in adolescents: approximately 80% of this age group does not reach the recommended daily 60 minutes. This situation and its important health consequences, has a greater impact on the most vulnerable young people, such as obese adolescents and those from socioeconomically disadvantaged families. Two studies aiming at promoting PA to these audiences were conducted: objective measures of PA before, during and after interventions were performed in two different PA program settings. The goal of the first study was to test the feasibility and the impact of a PA program for adolescents from disadvantaged backgrounds. For each adolescent, one of their parents was also involved. Thus, 18 parents and 22 adolescents participated in the “1 parent - 1 adolescent” program. Two hours of PA twice a week during eleven weeks were proposed for each of the participating groups. PA levels and several anthropometric, physiological and psychological parameters were collected. All participants followed the eleven weeks of intervention. The analyzes showed that the daily 60-min AP threshold was reached only during the program for adolescents. The daily 30 min for parents was reached at all measurements times of. Additional analyzes revealed 1) that program efficacy on PA level was modulated by age for adolescents and by attendance rate for parents, 2) a decreased of amotivation for the most assiduous adolescents, and 3) an increase in well-being for adolescents. The results of this pilot study highlighted the feasibility and effectiveness of such a program, which could now be deployed in the form of a randomized trial including a control group. The goal of the second study was to test the effects of 10-month multidisciplinary residential weight reduction program on body mass index (BMI) and PA levels of obese adolescents (21 boys and 41 girls aged 14 years with a BMI of 33 kg / m²). The modulating role of parental climate and motivation of the adolescent on the effectiveness of the care was evaluated. The results indicated a positive effect of the program with a decrease in BMI and an increase in PA during the course of treatment and four months after. With a curvilinear shape, the weight loss was strong at the beginning of the cure and then stabilized at the end. The parental climate seemed to play a facilitating role in this improvement, especially by the father, when he was perceived as being warmer, more involved and more supportive of autonomy. These PA promotion programs generate promising results on adolescent PA levels. However, the study of the determinants of the maintenance of changes during interventions must be continued

In this work, we deal about an psychopatological approach where running away and wandering are strictly differentiated from semiological point of view. On the other hand, we use phenomenological approach which lead to think about the spatial metaphor, the perambulation, to ask what the temporospatiality with these adolescent will be later on; which issue to dramatic stakes of a "blanche" adolescence thought. In that way we ask the question about the wandering adolescent desire. The object of his desire seems to bring to a space working as the object of the desire. Consequently there are an addiction and a fetishist relation to space. The wandering adolescent is unnable to build up and to feel an inner danger. This compels him to build an spatial addictif symptom from a fetishist type

Full textThis master’s thesis aims to analyse the pessimism in children’s literature, focussing particularly on its manifestation within dystopias for young adults. Children’s literature is traditionally regarded by many as an inherent optimist genre, as shown by the censorship to which it is regularly subjected, principally by the editorial process. In this context, it seems hard to explain the massive popularity wave that the dystopian novels for young adults experienced in the wake of the XXI century. This genre, displaying an usually futuristic fictional society in which evolves a character who suffers and who desires to revolt against it, is indeed characterized by a pronounced pessimism. This master’s thesis questions the way authors of dystopias for young adults harmonise the inherent optimism of children’s literature and the pessimism of the dystopian genre, while posing the hypothesis that the said pessimism is presented to the young target audience in a much attenuated state. A comparison between a corpus of novels intended to teenagers and another one that has an adult target audience was used in order to study our hypothesis within two main aspects, the character and the society, as well as other mitigating factors that can be seen throughout the book. We think these various elements all contribute to reduce the pessimism in dystopias for young adults by creating a familiar feeling for the readers and by lightening the burden that is resting on their shoulders and on those of the protagonists.

Full textUnemployment is now a structural element of the economic reality. Because of its extent and its spreading, unemployment constitutes a significant threat for adolescents : young people are specially vulnerable to unemployment which is a social and economic precariousness factor. Unemployment is therefore a stress factor. Adolescents can cope with this stressor by developing a certain social representation of unemployment and unemployed persons. The aim of this study is to analyse this sociocognitive process of coping. This research is based on i/an exploratory study, carried out by interviews ; it constitutes an initial approach of the unemployment representations among secondary school students, 2/ a pre-survey carried out by questionnaires among vocational secondary students ; it attempts to identify the relationship between stress and social representation of unemployment, 3/ a survey carried out by questionnaires among vocational, technical and general secondary students ; it shows in which conditions the social representation of unemployment can help young people to cope with the stress caused by unemployment threat. This study shows that the stress coping function of the social representation of unemployment changes according to the subjects' potential employability

Full textParticular attention should be paid to young patients transplanted from the kidney, which have priority in France in the assignment of renal graft. The objectives of this thesis were 1) to study the dynamics of the hazard of graft failure by current age after transplantation in young people; 2) to carry out a systematic review of prediction models for renal graft failure at all ages; and (3) to develop and validate a prediction model for this young population. To achieve Objectives 1 and 3, we used data from the French national registries REIN and CRISTAL, which included all pediatric renal transplant patients. For Objective 1, a two-stage statistical method revealed an increase in the hazard of graft failure during adolescence. For Objective 2, a systematic review of articles published between 2005 and 2015 showed that no predictive tool for graft failure has been specifically proposed for pediatric patients, as well as no dynamic predictive model for any age. For Objective 3, we developed and validated using internal cross-validation a dynamic prediction model of graft failure for young transplanted patients, using a joint model with shared random effects. This model included standard baseline predictors at the 90th day after transplantation (characteristics of the recipient (sex, age at transplantation, pretrasplant dialysis duration, primary renal disease, nadir of eGFR at J90), the donor (age and type), and transplantation (duration of cold ischemia, number of HLA incompatibilities, donor/recipient cytomegalovirus (CMV) serology status). The model also included the trajectory of GFR estimated after transplantation, assuming that the hazard of graft failure depended on both the current value of eGFR and its current slope. Our results indicate that this model had good predictive performances (AUC at 5 years ranging from 0.75 to 0.86 according to the time at prediction after transplantation), which were much better than the standard Cox model accounting for baseline predictors only (5-year AUC variant from 0.56 to 0.62). This model which allows the prediction of graft failure to be updated at each clinical visit after transplantation based on all previous observed values of eGFR, should be validated on populations other than the French population. We believe that such a tool could ultimately be useful in the clinical follow-up of young kidney transplanted patients

Full textThe present thesis focuses on the study of the sexual education within educational structures and online chat rooms as seen through the prism of the sociological study of expertise. The notion of expertise is understood as a counseling activity when dealing with a given problem. This work focuses on the development of sexual education within specific circumstances, as well as the tools and experiences used and the dynamics at play within its development.Through the analysis of sexual education at school, which is largely conducted by school nurses, and the study of online forums, a number of situations involving expertise can be observed. Within the first of these abovementioned settings, the education is instutitionalized and maintains fixed parameters ; in the second setting however it remains up to debate, including on many subjects that aren't be covered at school. Also, one must bear in mind that both these educational construction in the subject. Teenage sexual education spans several registers. Teenage years are seen as a dangerous time, when undue risks are taken and focus is maintained on the responsibilities implied within the introuction to sexuality. It is about protecting oneself from diseases as well as negative experiences and to become a responsible individual. A new regulatory regime is shown within this study, whereby education no longer relies on coercitive dimensions and an asymetrical relationship, but gives way to an egalitarian relationship which is based on dialogue and the sharing of confidential information, based on inward-looking disciplines

Full textThis work studies the psychical troubles of mentally handicapped adolescents. It refers to the attachment theory and psychoanalysis. The hypothesis is that mentally handicapped adolescents have an insecure attachment. The method used is an experimental one. The data analysis includes the results stemming from the experimental method and the analysis of the clinical data coming from a psychoanalytical approach of the material. All our results support our hypothesis. The adolescents assessed have an unresolved attachment. Their mental functioning attests the traumatism of the announcement of the mental handicap on their family. Mental handicap is looked on, by their psyche, as an evidence of the destructivity of aggressiveness. It appears either a crime, for which the handicapped adolescent must be punished or a punishment, evidence of a prior culpability that cannot be worked over. The reality of the handicap appears a hindrance to the fantastical working over of aggressiveness

Full textThe main line of enquiry deals with the socialization of young teenagers of both sexes, in differing human and sociocultural contexts and on perceptible difficulties linked with the collapse of the educational structures of the family and the rejection of the school as an institution. This causes a general condition of antagonism where the problems of puberty-crisis and those of the present French and Algerian societies exacervate each other. The identity crisis of adolescence is analyzed at three levels: mythical, structural and conjonctural. In social attitudes and behavior, the personality of both French and Algerian young people is more influenced by psycho-social factors than by biological or cultural ones. The analysis of individual cases observed by a longitunal method accounts for the various personal "bricolages" (tinkering). They resort to in their attempt to cope

Full textThis thesis deals with a specific age group of young greeks in the hellenistic kingdom, later roman province of egypt, from its conquest by alexander the great until the beginning of the fourth century. The term neotes, "youth", covers the span of life which goes from the age of fourteen (ephebia) to that of thirty (neoi). This thesis, which only studies the case of young men, uses all the different sources that are available : literary, papyrological and epigraphic. Their complementarity enables us to study the different aspects of the definition of the young man : the outlook of the alexandrine poet, that of the greek novelist in the roman age, that of the roman civil servant. The first part studies how young men were perceived. This study first takes into account their ideal perception by poets and novelists, and eventually leads to their real perception as found in papyrological sources. The second part deals with the age and conditions in which the passage from childhood to youth occured, developing the questions of coming of age and ephebia. The third part examines to what extent their future was determined by their links with the army in the ptolemak age within the framework of the neaniskoi institution, with the gymnasium in the ptolemaic age, and within the framework of the augustan status of roman egypt

Full textDiscussions with twelve young people and a analysis with a clinical pyshology approach of their statements made it possible to understand the problems with which they live and the difficulties of installation of their life projects. The educational and emotional deficiencies of the young people in trouble slow down the installation of their life projects. Psycho-dynamic componants have to be revived like the relation with the other and the activation of the forces of Ego and the revalorization of oneself. It is by finding back some self-confidence and some confidence in the other through the installation of a total, stable and continuous acompaniment that a concrete training on know how, on how to to live and how to be and the reappeanrence of self-confidence will take place. Parallel discussions with trainers make it possible to etablish a link between expectations of the the young people looking for insertion and what the trainers can bring to them. On total we present the possible ways for young people in trouble from 16 to 25 years to instal a life project
