Full textThis study on young people mobilization in Bettié department, in the East of the Ivory Coast, is a contribution to the analysis and the interpretation of socio-regional specificities of the engagement of the young people in the political conflict (september 2002-April 2011). Thus, from situations of mobilization, less violent and far away from armed confrontations fields, the thesis analyzes how the participation of rural young people at a self-defense committee takes part in the construction of a distinctive identity of the young people in rural medium agni. The data production largely profited from a collaborative work within the framework of the research program on "Wars transformations". Talks carried out with young roadblock keepers, young people non roadblock keepers indifferntly of their ethnic membership, executive and civil servant amenable to the localities of study, local administrative authorities, politicians and local councilors and, members of the customary power made it possible to rebuild the device of young people mobilization in 2002, its operation and the various forms of violence which were associated to it. The political identity of mobilized takes its direction in refernce to the social inequalities induced by the political problems around the usual capacity, the local agricultural economics strongly marked by hevea, and the tutorat institution

Full textThe current study aims at grasping the basis of student's sex life in the city of Abidjan. In Côte d'ivoire, sex education has been taught in schools for over a decade. According to the Department of Education, students' sexual behaviour is determined by the information they are given. In fact, the purpose of sex education is to change their sex life and therefore prevent pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases such as Aids. But since it does not control the social phenomena which influence these young men's sexual attitudes, sex education in schools cannot achieve its goal. Thus, in addition to the educational sector, one has to examine life in urban areas in order to understand students' sexuality. That is why we visited different spheres including households, peers, religion, the media, as well as schools. Now, if these factors can shape sexual behaviour we can notice that they are sometimes contradictory. Some of them do not influence attitudes. They do not interfere in the development of sexual behaviours. What is more, every student will have a different attitude according to his own past and personality. Therefore, we come to the conclusion that these social factors are not relevant in understanding the students' sex life. To know why they behave in different ways and apprehend the determining factors of their sexual behaviour, one has to consider every students' personal development. Indeed, it is through the observation of personal developments that an event can appear suddenly. This has such an impact on the student that it may also bring along changes in his sex life. Consequently, a new perspective on life as well as sexual behaviour comes to light

Full textFrom the early days of independance, the cote d'ivoire government, within the context of their national development policy, embarked upon a project to modernize rural and urban living conditions, to eradicate slums over a period often years and to offer each member of the population the benefits of modernity. This decidedly westernized modernization project, badly thought out from the start, is in fact the proposed solution to the problem of rural exodus that was affecting principally the northern and central regions. Within this context, certain rural sectors of these regions have been able to benefit from free modern housing. However, unable to cope with the financial burden of this type of modernization policy, the state has pledged to help those villages wishing to modernize by building housing estates. As a result the rural populations strongly encouraged to modernize ended up completely altering their traditional way of life through this transformation provoked by imitation. State-run companies and institutions and international organizations implicated in the rural spacial organization merely contented themselves with transposing an urban environment unadapted to rural lifestyles, making no allowance for the problem of cultural diversity. The plans provided by the ministry of construction and urbanization (mcu) constitute the factors responsible for the standardization of rural housing. Transferred to a rural environment, the practice of dividing up and enclosing plots of land (closed concession) destroys the cohesive structure of the village. The concept of urban social housing as perceived, conceived and applied in cote d'ivoire reflects a reality that is radically different from the day to day experiences of the underpriveleged sections of the populations and their aspirations. The property companies and private developers responsible for implementing the mass housing policy practise a selective policy of access to home-ownership which is beyond the means of the social stratum concerned. In spite of the prestigious design presented in the urban development policy, the inclusion of communal compounds in a housing development scheme remains the only possible means with which to improve the standard of living of the less affluent sections of the population. An uncontrolled explosion of urbanization gives rise to urban development characterized by ille

On the while, these factors happen to be more or less influenced by the economic system which is mainly based on perennial agriculture whose major produce are coffee and cocoa, the vicinity of Abidjan urban area and education. These elements have a more or less important impact on traditional structures, especially on cultural aspects

Full textBeyond essential hermeneutics of legal texts and the determination ofthe legislator's intentions, both well known methods of legal analysis, it remains to determine the social signification of ground law policies. Through ist choice of legal procedure, and modes of land apportionment between various economic sectors of activity, what type of society is ground law fashoining in the ivory coast and what are the limitations encountered by the restructuring ? The anthropology of law approach permits us to go beyond texts and legal practices to analyse the underlying assumptions that govern legal choices as an attempt to respond to the questions raised. Resistance from traditional systems of ground law which were at first disregarded and then deformed, and a variety of legal and sociological obstacles raise the problem of the responsibility of the state and its principal agents in the implementation of ground law policies and in the choice of capitalist development and its imbalances and inequalities. Legal and negotiated conflict resolution become deadlocked. Ground law reform has become urgent in the ivory coast. It must be founded on local ground law dynamics, ground law negotiation pratices, and the positive aspects of traditionalist systems of ground law
