Abstract:
This paper explores how Mary, Queen of Scots and Elizabeth i utilized jewelry in political settings to construct meaning, represent themselves, and negotiate personal and political relationships. Studying the complexities of jewelry’s exchange and circulation between the courts of England and Scotland provides a more nuanced picture of early modern diplomacy and material culture. Jewelry provided a valuable resource from which rulers and diplomats regularly drew when framing their political discourse. Jewels used in diplomacy were as politically meaningful as the gestures and rituals of formal diplomatic audiences and domestic ceremonies. As an object of exchange with a variety of functions, jewelry was absorbent of meaning and memories. Thus, jewelry could forge bonds between those who exchanged it, and also bring about hostilities and complications.

Abstract:
The tradition of using jewelry has always preserved its importance as a means of adornment. The most precious metals and gemstones have been used in the making of jewelry for a long time, and they have been produced by developing special techniques. Gemstone and precious metal processing started in ancient times as well as in every period with the aim of providing faith, fertility, magic, and good luck; In addition to these meanings from time to time, religious rituals also included purposes such as presenting gifts to the gods or the dead, an indicator of social privilege and status, an expression of wealth and of course looking beautiful, according to the beliefs of the period. Our museums, which are active in preserving and preserving the artifacts of Anatolian civilizations today, are also home to jewelery with or without stones from all times, which were removed from our country. With this study, it is planned to determine the metal and stone types of jewelery with or without gemstones brought to the Niğde Museum during archaeological excavations or by confiscation, and to update them in the museum inventory. It is aimed to emphasize the importance of examining other antique period jewelery with or without stones, which are kept and exhibited in museums in our country, in terms of jewelry and gemology. Considering the existence of the remains of ancient civilizations in our country and the state and private history museums that have increased in recent years, the contribution of this study to our cultural tourism will be important. Abstract:
The Primary objectives of this creative project were the exploration of well-known fairy tales (such as Snow White), and the process of creating interactive jewelry based on my own personal interpretation of these stories. I designed and constructed seven jewelry pieces using traditional metal working techniques along with innovative contemporary surface treatments such as etching, sandblasting and colored pencil decoration. Each piece contained a "surprise" interactive element - some pieces contain moving parts, while others contain small pieces of fabric tape on which sentences are written. These tapes are mechanized to wind up into the ring or pendant. This body of work required a variety of metalsmithing techniques including complex constructions, copper forming, casting, lathe turning, and stone setting.<br>Department of Art

Abstract:
On the base of cultural norms, it seems that it is commonly accepted that one animal is considered 'friend', while the other 'food'. Even though people's opinion may differ in regards to the world's largest animal rights organization PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animal) (Kulkarni, 2009), the organization asks a relevant question: “ If your cat tasted like chicken would you eat her?” As I work within the contemporary art jewellery field, it is through the body, jewellery, and the conscious act of wearing it, that I would like to encourage consumers to reflect on their personal meat consumption and to connect the packaged meat to the animal it comes from: what is it that we are eating? Where does it come from? Through this essay and my work/practice, I aim to critically reflect on the different existing values between animals in our society and to inspire more conscious and well informed decisions concerning meat. This essay is a research project prior to my practical exam work at the Jewellery + Corpus Master program at Konstfack and will serve as a basis for my artistic exam work. Against this background, I look at relevant literature and case studies representative of the field of contemporary art jewellery, in order to research/address the following question in this essay: -          Is it possible to discuss complex questions within society though the media of contemporary art jewellery?  Within the field, opinions differ between art historians as well as makers; it seems that the framework of contemporary art jewellery provides the medium, on one side, with great potential to speak of issues within society, although, on the other side, the same frame work commonly hinders the medium’s ability to reach out to the general public, in order to generate a wider discussion.

Abstract:
The article aims to present some of the legends surrounding precious metals and precious stones, followed by legal aspects and a brief historical overview and concluding with the fascination that precious metals and stones have for people. Precious metals and precious stones function as a signal of a persons high social status in society. Thus, they are the insignia of powerful people; the vehicle by which a person can climb the social ladder. Precious metals and precious stones, because of their aesthetic, disturbing qualities, entered into the myths and legends of antiquity, fascinated peoples minds, and were a mystery and an attraction. The fascination that precious metals and precious stones have always held for man has led to a whole series of research into their influence on the human psyche. The overwhelming psychological influence of precious stones and metals is explained by the fact that they are able to provide the need for physical survival and security, which psychologist Abraham Maslow considered to be paramount for a balanced personality. After people learned to work gold and silver, gemstones and precious metals were combined to create jewels. Jewelry made of gold, silver and ivory was then spread by merchants to the countries of the Mediterranean basin. Artists and jewelry designers through their collaborations with artists in the fields of art, fashion led to the creation of remarkable works of art or impressive clothing collections.

Abstract:
The paper presents the results of the workshop "Utopia: Jewelry Beyond the Body," held at the School of Design of the Politecnico di Milano as part of the Master degree program with the aim to develop an innovative design methodology for future creatives. The workshop's main objective was to explore the process of designing a virtual jewelry collection conceived to be worn and experienced in the digital world. The paper describes the workshop's deifferent stages of the methodology, with a specific focus on the use of Artificial Intelligence for the ideation phase, and the creation of a virtual exhibition hosted on Spatial.io, in the final stage.First, the paper addresses the context of the workshop. The jewelry and fashion fields have undergone a profound transformation, with a gradual shift from tangible, physical interactions to the dematerialized domain of the virtual. The pervasive integration of digital technology has affected the entire value chain of these sectors, from design practices to distribution consumptions. Considering this change, the work highlights the need to explore digital manifestations of tangible products and experiment with spaces of digital co-creation. Then the contribution focuses on the methodology implemented in the workshop, integrating digital technologies, such as virtual reality and artificial intelligence. Finally, the document presents the experience's outputs with quantitative and qualitative results. The results provide insights into the effectiveness of the design methodology, highlighting the impact of the research conducted.Furthermore, the experience is evaluated with a focus on the possibilities that can be obtained merging jewellery design and virtual exhibition practices. The "Utopia: Jewelry Beyond the Body" workshop represents an initiative between jewelry design, digital innovation, and academic pedagogy. By describing the workshop's evolving context, methodology, and results, this article contributes to a deeper understanding of the relationship between digital technology, design creativity, and the evolution of the jewelry industry.

Rogg, Christian S. The Impact of Access to Credit on the Saving Behavior of Microentrepreneurs: Evidence from 3 Latin American Countries. Inter-American Development Bank, April 2000. http://dx.doi.org/10.18235/0011211.

Full text
Abstract:
This paper aims to shed light on changes in the saving behavior of microentrepreneurs in response to improved access to credit. This paper argues that it is necessary to extend the analysis to the shifting of assets between different forms of savings. The econometric analysis in this paper, which is based on data from IDB evaluations of its Micro and Small Enterprise Global Programs in Ecuador, El Salvador and Paraguay, concludes that increased access to credit induces borrowers to shift their savings from livestock, jewelry and other assets with low or negative returns into deposit accounts with positive returns. This shift takes place as microentrepreneurs develop an understanding of, and confidence in, the various operations and services of the financial sector. As a result of this shift, borrowers tend to achieve a better return on their savings.
