The life of Joanna of Rožmitál (Rosenthal), who is mainly known as the wife of George of Poděbrady, was much more diverse and richer, than it could seem at first view. Being a noblewoman from a Catholic family, she married a "Calixtine."During her relatively short life, she managed to promote the succession of Jagiellonians to the throne, to participate in provincial diets, to resolve conflicts between Catholic and Calixtine noblemen and, after the death of her husband, to hold the highest office in the state. On the basis of extant sources and narrative literature I will try reconstructing Joanna's life, her court and heir governance along George's side and also after his death. Among other targets, the work will try to portray the life of a medieval noblewomen in a rather uneasy period.

This thesis concerns the Strakonice league, an association of largely Catholic estates of 1449. It tries to conceive the topic in another way, than the older literature did, which did not pay attention to the Strakonice league not specially, but dealed with it mostly in the frame of the description of Bohemian political and military history. The thesis tries to bring new pieces of knowledge of the Strakonice league by means of analyse of correspondence of the lords of Rosenberg (Rožmberk) and of another sources. Concerning the course of the military and diplomatic struggle with the Poděbrady league itself, the emphasis is put on selected, less known aspects. The relation of the Strakonice league to the lands adjoining the Czech crown and to foreign countries, where the league was looking for allies, is elaborated separately. The last big section of the thesis concerns the league members. This section is based on collecting of data about individual persons or towns that entered the Strakonice league. There are studied their political career, motivation for their entrance into the league, possesion and their relations to each other. In my thesis I deal with Aleš Holický, a significant representative of the Šternberk clan, in the post Lipany period. On the basis of sources, I am trying to chart especially his political programme, its creation and the fulfilment of the goal he was pursuing. I follow up his political orientation after the conversion to the chalice in the beginning of 1430s and try to describe the basis of his rise including the influence of the political groups which he was a member of. In this context, I explain Aleš's role in Ptáček's and Poděbrad's party and his interest in formulation and enforcement of their demands. On the basis of the evidence collected, Aleš's contribution not just to Czech utraquism, Ptáček's party, Poděbrad's party (later Poděbrad's league), in which he acted, as well as for the whole country is evaluated at the end. Thus, I am trying to revise some conclusions of older historiography in which Aleš's influence in the parties he belonged to as well as his independent negotiations have been underestimated. In Aleš's persistent, purposeful activity and merits I can see the substantiation of his inclusion among the significant personalities of Czech history and politics of the 1430s - 1450s. In my diploma thesis I deal with the family of the lords of Hradec, who in the 15th century strongly opposed George of Poděbrady and at the same time worked in important diplomatic circles, mostly alongside the rulers of the Czech kingdom. The main point of my work is Menhart II. from Hradec, an important diplomat and nobleman who was an important figure in the Hussite era. I also focus on Oldřich V. of Hradec, who fought in the affairs of his father and Henry IV. from Hradec, appearing in a unity armed against George of Poděbrady. The work is supplemented by the Strakonice and Zelenohorský units, which arose during individual disputes.

This thesis discusses the personal composition of the Court of King Ladislav Pohrobek from the year 1452 until Ladislav's death in November 1457. The period of ruling of the last member of albert's line of the Habsburg dynasty has been treated mainly as a stage of political history of the 15. century, and emphasis was placed on the acts of the provincial administrator Jiří z Poděbrad. Preferably on the basis of the diplomatic work of the material, trying to assemble portraits of courtiers of the Czech Crown lands and both Austria and put them into a broader historical framework. The Royal Court and its components, in the case of the young King did not exceed in the late medieval manners. In addition to court officials a large group of people were members of the Royal Council. An important institution and instrument of the King's Government was the Royal Council, which was indispensable and whose staff traveled with the monarch. Low age of Ladislav allowed several of the King's counselors to get a strong influence on the King's personality, from which they could benefit in its favor at the expense of the monarch. These create a power factions, which were competing for the Ladislav's trust. The situation was complicated not only by the King's inexperience, but also by national and estates problems....

The goal of this thesis was to analyse the development of abbey in Waldsassen since the end of 14th century to the finish of George's of Podiebrad reign. Author struggled to describe on the basis of analysis of above all unpublished monastic sources, which are deposited in State archive in Amberg, various aspects of life in Waldsassen convent. Apart from the economic base and its changes, which are well covered by amount of sources, also social a political relations to secular power in the Holy Roman Empire - roman rulers and princes are studied. Then the basis deals with contacts of monastery with the Crown of Bohemia and its aristocracy and also with the position of Waldsassen in the Order and its cooperation with other Cistercian monasteries. Matters dealt with the papal throne are not forgetten, too. Detailed analysis was dedicated to parish network and the land register of Waldsassen, which presents the valuable source for former economic relationships and toponyms of "Stiftland" and Upper Palatine. The fourth chapter is also comprehensive, describing Waldsassen during the Hussite wars and eliminates some myths about this period in the region. DOCTORAL THESIS Ivana HERGLOVÁ --- KINGDOM OF BOHEMIA - NEIGHBOUR OF BAVARIA IN THE LATE MIDDLE AGES AND IN THE EARLY MODERN TIMES --- Abstract --- The thesis is dedicated to research in the field of Bavarian-Bohemian relations, mainly in the field of politics, in the 15th and early 16th century. Main interest is given to the contacts between the Kingdom of Bohemia and the four partial duchies into which Bavaria was subdivided in this period - (Lower) Bavaria-Straubing, Bavaria-Munich, Bavaria-Landshut and Bavaria-Ingolstadt. The work is divided into four large parts. The first goes on the Hussite Wars (1419-1434/36). The second part analyses Czech royal election of the year 1440 and the motives of the selected candidate, the duke Albrecht III of Bavaria-Munich, to finally decline the election. This chapter is followed by a summary of the political cooperation between Czech kings Ladislaus Posthumus (1453-1457) and George of Podiebrad (1458-1471) and the duke Louis/Ludwig IX of Bavaria-Landshut. The last chapter of the thesis describes the attempt of the Bavarian dukes (of the now reunited Duchy of Bavaria) William/Wilhelm IV and Louis/Ludwig X to become the kings of Bohemia as a part of their competition for hegemony in the middle European region with the house of Habsburg.
