Abstract:
The unit trust industry in South Africa is in a growth phase. The competition for market share is becoming more intense and the companies need innovative ideas and optimization of there marketing mix to expand market share. The primary goal of this study was to establish the importance of the expanded marketing mix for independent insurance brokers in their decision making when recommending an investment in equity unit trusts to their clients. Independent insurance brokers were selected for this study because they hnction independently and are not bound to market a certain companies unit trusts. The study investigates the marketing criteria through a literature study on the expanded marketing mix that included: product, facilities, processes, people, promotion and distribution. The Association of Unit Trusts regulate the investment costs. Costs therefor are fixed and cannot be manipulated. The independent brokers tested the criterion of the marketing mix to see which criteria were the most important in affecting decision-making. The most important criteria were return on investment and the skill of the portfolio managers. The least important criteria were recognition of the brokers achievement and visits from the corkultant. The recommendation to companies managing unit trust is: to maintain a healthy balance between the elements of the expanded marketing mix because .the brokers evaluate all of the elements as important; product is the most important marketing element of the marketing mix. Portfolio managers must be capable and the image of the portfolio manager must be developed and promoted; distribution and access to computerized information are also very important; and all aspects of service delivery, marketing material and responds to inquiries are also rated as important criteria to the brokers.

Abstract:
Hambidge bespreek sekere deurlopende temas in haar gedigte.

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to determine the contribution of the material properties towards the mechanical deformation of the M82 igniter. This deformation causes the non-extraction of the igniter after a shot has been fired, preventing the automatic reloading of the weapon, causing a low rate of fire. A high rate of fire support is a crucial requirement in modern warfare. Different characteristics of the material namely; microstructure, tensile tests (at quasi static and high strain rates), hardness and lead distribution were investigated. Igniter components were manufactured from the investigated material, assembled and tested dynamically at Alkantpan in the Eagle weapon. After the proof the igniters were measured, cut in half and the metallurgy and the mechanical properties were investigated. The final conclusion reached at the end of the study was that the material properties, except for the fact that the Brass CZ124 tends to have a lower UTS at high strain rates, has no contribution to the mechanical deformation of the igniter. The mechanical deformation of the igniter was caused by an interaction between the main charge and the spindle.

Abstract:
This study is an investigation into the nature, attributes and characteristics of Joan Hambidge's poetry. In order to determine what poetry is (arising from the opinions of Eliot and Aristotle) suitable working definitions are identified in chapter 2 from which the study can draw a theory of the ·art of poetry· . The concepts ars poetica' (as the poet's individual creative method), 'solipsism' (as an essentially self-directed school of thought), 'metapoetry' (as the inevitable manifestation of poetry concerned with a self-directed ars poetica), and · intratextuality' (as a logical consequence to poetry which is self-directed) are defined and drawn together within the context of this study's specific sphere. Through this the study's own poetic theory is composed in chapter 2. On the basis of this poetic theory ('ars theoretica') the nature of Hambidge's poetry may be described as ars poetic (and therefore narcissistic), with a metapoetical tendency and a resultant intra textual nature. The rest of the study make use of these characteristics (which describe the nature of Joan Hambidge's poetry) to indicate the form of the poetical procedure and its results. In chapter 3 the ars poetic solipsistic nature of the poetry of Hartskrif is described according to the directives drawn from the volume's first poem. Emphasis is placed on the Hambidge procedure of offering 'word pictures' as poems. Chapter 4 is based on an analysis of the two poems 'Ars poetica · (B:31) en Ars erotica· CB: 57). The manifestation of the 'art of poetry· in Bitterle~ is investigated through this analysis. In this chapter it comes to light that the poetry functions as an antipode to transcience, especially so when the poetry becomes the beloved, and therefore can be seen as an act of survival. An important premise of this study is the primary focus on that what is said about poetry in the poems itself. Chapter 5 strives for this goal: it draws a 'map of poetry· mainly using the poetic insights arising from Die aoatomie van melancholie and Palinodes. The palinodic 'nature· of Hambidge's poetry is also taken into account in this chapter. With the compilation of the study's working theory in chapter 2, it was argued that this study focuses on intratextual relations in Hambidge · s poetry because of the view that such an investigation will be able to pay attention to the consequences of a self-driected concern with poetry. Hambidge, however, warns: "poesie praat 'n paradoks" CE: 17) (poetry is paradoxical) and in chapter 6 the paradoxical nature of the poetry undermines this study. Therefore a theoretical basis is given to show that parody and its intertextual manifestations, should also be discussed in an intratextual study. A discussion of how parody is applied in 'Eden' (a Hambidge parody of Ina Rousseau's similarly titled poem) follows. The intratextual network which comes to the fore in Hambidge's poetry is illustrated in the last chapter. It is shown that this intratextual reaching out of verses across volumes, is a specific result of ars poetical solipsism. Finally it is shown in the last chapter that Verdraaide raaisels breaks the bonds of the strong ars poetic solipsistic element, characteristical of Hambidge · s oeuvre. In Verdraaide raaisels the poetry is relieved from the narcissistic involvement with the self. Against this background the last volume of Hambidge's oeuvre of eleven volumes of poetry, is seen as the keystone which completes this oeuvre's mandala.

Abstract:
The aims of this study are to establish: • what work satisfaction entails • which factors influence the work satisfaction of the principal according to the available literature • which factors in teaching practice influences the work satisfaction of the principal. To achieve these goals both an empirical and a survey of the literature was conducted. The study of the literature was undertaken from primary and secondary sources. After the characteristics and factors of work satisfaction have been established and discussed, a questionnaire was drafted. From the literature the following factors, the need of acknowledgement, the need to excel, relationships within the school, physical circumstances at work, and the status of the principal were identified as important. A systematic sample was used in which principals of primary schools in the Northern Cape were involved. The information gathered was processed with the aid of a computer. After processing, the data was interpreted and findings were established. According to the findings recommendations were made. The empirical investigation indicated that principals have reasonable work satisfaction but that there still are certain factors that should be addressed. Some of these factors are a healthy relationship with pupils, colleagues and subordinates and the line of communication between the school and Education Department. Certain recommendations are made on the basis of the empirical investigation. The most important recommendations are that the line of communication between the school and Education Department should be improved, and that achievements of the principal in his working environment should be acknowledged more.

Abstract:
Church Polity and Church Order IN THE LIGHT OF GOD'S RIC HT AND ORDER FOR HIS CHURCH The aim of this study was to determine the nature and the meaning of church polity and church order in the light of God's right and order in his church . . A study on the basis of ecumenical principle was first undertaken to determine · the postulate and the minister of the right (law) and the order of the church. On the basis of the Scriptures it is clear that God is the only Postulate and Minister of the right (law) and the order for the church. On the basis of this finding the following issues were studied exegetically on the basis of topicality and principle: what is the meaning of the concepts God's church, God's right for his church and God's order for his church? By way of the relevant concepts in Hebrew and in Greek, respectively from the Old and the New Testaments, the lexicological meanings of the concepts were first determined. Following that the contextual meaning aspects of the concepts were researched in both the Old and the New Testaments. From this study a conclosion was reached with regard to God's right for his church: God's right is that which, in accordance- with his will, is good in his sight. His justice is the realization of his right in his dealings with and for man. With regard to God's order for his church, the following finding was made: On the one hand it is the order which He gave with a view to a specific way of life and by means of which redeemed mankind had to live in obedience to Him. On the other hand the church emerges as the redeemed community through the acceptance of the prescribed way of life and in this way is the embodiment of the new order, or the verus ordo. In the light of the findings the nature and the meaning of church polity and church order are explicated in the sect ion Topical-Functional a long a personal view. According to this church polity is not God's right for his church. Church polity derived from Scripture, however, cannot be separated completely from God's right for his church, because it entails the research, the explication and the making relevant of God's right and order for church goverment. Church polity is·therefore very explicitly not a merely human activity. It is very definitely not positivism. Church polity is a 'ministering' science. It does not have the power to positivize laws, as is the case with state laws, but it 'ministers' the principles which God in his Word gave to church government, by researching these principles, explicating them and systematically rendering them. Church order by the same token is not God's order for his church. The church order is, .as fruit of the practice of church polity, in essence the systematized explication and rendition of God's 0tder for his church. The church order is not positivized church polity. For that reason the church order also has no independent authority. In fact, church order only wants to be the principle-bearing pointer to God's Word. In the practice of church polity the stress is never on transgressions of church order, as in the case of a legal statute.but on transgressions of the Word of God. The church order has to be handled with wisdom and fairness in order to answer to .the highest demand, the making secure of the dissemination of the Word in the church of the Lord. By making secure (protecting) the dissemination of the Word, grace and faith are also made secure. In this way church order is the protector of the three solae of the reformation. The relationship between church polity and church order is of the greatest importance for church government. Should church polity be deduced from church order, church order is thereby renderd as a church law. Fundamentally the compiler of the church order, viz. the meeting of the church, is then the postulator and the minister of the 'law' and order of the church. ln this way church government is relinquished to human positivism. The true relationship between church polity and church order lies in the fact that the church order is the fruit of church polity. The church order is a rendition of the scripturo.l principles of church government and lS therefore founded On Scripture. The correct relationship between church polity and church order is essential for the goverment of the church in its effort to make secure, to protect Christ's sovereignty in his church. Church polity and church order in the light of God's right and order for his church lead to a church government ln which Christ's voice sounds over his flock and in which the church of Christ is edified to his greater glory.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: The aim of this investigation was to provide a theoretical overview of the predominant feminist literary movements and their theoretical theses. I concentrated specifically on providing an historical overview of the major theories and by doing so accumulating them into one theoretical model. Concommitantly theories coined by post-structuralist thinkers such as Derrida and deconstruction are also employed in furnishing the reading model with a deconstructivi i-.>"": base.

Abstract:
Where the nature of man and the purpose, direction, destination and sense of human existence in the counselling situation are concerned, it is essential to remember that man was created in the image of God. The assumption is made that a Biblical view of man (anthropology) will result in counselling that is justified from the Bible. In fact, the return to a clearly defined Biblical anthropology is one of the biggest challenges of current reformed theology. This study aims to indicate that, should the counsellor and the person who seeks counselling develop and maintain a valid Biblical anthropology, the resulting insight can benefit and solve the total counselling process satisfactorily. It is assumed that the end result of the counselling process will be a situation in which the person who seeks counselling should function in the correct relationship to God and his/her fellow man. To prove this, guidelines based on a view of man as revealed in the Bible are researched by means of exegetic study in order to determine their implications for the counselling process. This reveals that man is the image of God and not merely the conveyor of the image of God. Furthermore. the Trinity plays an important role in the way in which man is the Image of God. In addition to the exegesis, the underlying view of man in current non-Biblical and some Biblical models of counselling is also investigated This is done in order to determine the way in which the anthropological foundation influences the practice of counselling These underlying assumptions are evaluated by means of the norm of the findings from the exegesis of Scripture The study concludes with the tracing of contours that serve as a basis according to which a Biblical anthropological model can be developed for use in counselling practice. This has the practical aim of providing means to both the counsellor and the person who seeks counselling for developing a Biblical anthropology and on the basis of which the total Biblical counselling process can be optimised.

Van, Zyl Leonie. "Sarah Goldblatt : letterkundige administratrise van C.J. Langenhoven." Thesis, Stellenbosch : Stellenbosch University, 2003. http://hdl.handle.net/10019.1/53580.

Abstract:
Thesis (MA)--Stellenbosch University, 2003.
ENGLISH ABSTRACT: In 1932 the well-known Afrikaans writer and politician, C.J. Langenhoven, died in Oudtshoorn in his home, Arbeidsgenot. In his testament he appointed Sarah Goldblatt as the person responsible for the administration of his literary works. Sarah, a Jewish woman, immigrated to the Cape together with her family in 1897. The aim of this research was to find the possible reasons why Langenhoven chose an English speaking Jewish woman as his administrator. Jews were not accepted with open arms into the South African community, especially not Jews from Eastern Europe, the area where Sarah and her family came from. Anti-semitic feelings amongst the Afriaans population were especially strong during the thirties and forties. It was during this time, in 1932, that Sarah received the job as administrator. The period of research stretches from 1889 to 1975, from Sarah's birth to her death. A look is taken at the changing South African attitude towards Jews during Sarah's life. The role and position of the Afrikanerwomen during this time is also investigated. Oudtshoorn, the town in which Langenhoven lived and where the friendship between him and Sarah started, will also be put under the spotlight. Many Jews settled in this town and played an active part in the Oudtshoorn community. Not only the South African attitude towards Jews and women will be discussed, but also Langenhoven's and Sarah's personal perspectives on these subjects. Both their friendship and work relationship will be discussed. Their philosophy of life and their relationship will cast light on the reasons why Langenhoven finally decided to appoint Sarah as the administrator of his literary works. Sarah's greatest achievements were directly involved with Langenhoven. Opinions differ about the influence Sarah had on the way the South African community saw Langenhoven. The work as administrator for the literary works was not all Sarah did. Therefore a review on Sarah's contribution to the Afrikaans language and culture is also provided.

Paris 1, 1996. http://www.theses.fr/1996PA010531.

Full text
Abstract:

Abstract:
Currently, in the period of Poststructualism literature is widely approached as a cultural and social phenomenon and the aims of literary studies as the illuminating of social codes, ideology etc. embedded in literature. This study evaluates the contribution of specific critics working within the so-called "New paradigm". The concept "New paradigm" is used as an umbrella term covering a number of distinct developments, referring to literature as a system of literary "actions" rather than as a canon of books. In recent years several Afrikaans critics have embraced or adapted current theories in the domains of Deconstruction, Ideology Criticism, Literary, Sociology, Recepticm Aesthetics, Semiotics and Feminism. This study explores and evaluates the application of such theoretical paradigms to their work in the field of practical criticism. This study also explores the relationship between current theories of literature and their antecedents. The notion of current literary theory and practice not only as a broadening of scope and content of the notion of the "literary" but on the other hand as a liberation of theory and practice from an over-deterministic thrust (i.e. the approach of literature as no more than a set of social documents) is also evaluated in this study. A twofold aim of this study can thus be defined: a. to determine the extent to which the shift from the "old" to "new" theories was made necessary by the developing literary and social scene; b. to examine the links beween theory and practice in the work of specific, key figures in Afrikaans. Is it possible for theory and practice to be separated? Is there an important consistence in the relationship between the two in the work of the figures chosen?

Samouelian, Esther. Thesis, Paris 1, 2017. http://www.theses.fr/2017PA01H035.

Full text
Abstract:
The thesis questions the place of religious pictures in the new metapictural genre of gallery paintings invented by Frans Francken II in Antwerp at the beginning of the seventeenth century. Antwerp gallery paintings have been considered so far as reflecting collecting practices and the taste at that time. They have also been understood as the expression of the ideas of the CounterReformation and, to a lesser extent, the humanistic culture in the Low Countries. This global sociocultural approach does not grasp the diversity and specificity of gallery paintings, the aim of these paintings is definitely another one. Looking like an image of a collection this combination of paintings and diverse objects leads to the construction of a discourse dedicated to an ethical or epistemological theme. Various links can be observed in gallery paintings between the reproduced pictures and even between the pictures and the objects, links which bring forth a strong internal coherence, hidden under apparent disorder. Relationships based on analogy or antithesis are established between the works of art which the beholder is invited to find out. Newly identified works confirm the presence of a theme which coordinates a gallery painting as a whole. My study is devoted to the gallery paintings by Frans Francken II and his brother Hieronymus, further those by Cornelis De Baellieur. All these gallery paintings contain existent paintings and follow the principle of organization according to a theme. My study also puts the question of internal coherence concerning the famous compositions by Willem van Haecht and tries to give a first answer to it

Nel, Mariska. "Joan Hambidge se idiolek oor die grense van genres : 'n korpuslinguistiese ondersoek / Mariska Nel." Thesis, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/10394/11291.

Full text
Abstract:
Idiolect refers to an individual’s unique use of language. Therefore, the author of a text can be identified by his/her use of language. This study is focused on Joan Hambidge’s recognisable idiolect across the boundaries of genres. It is expected that Hambidge will have a unique and recognisable idiolect, regardless of the genre she writes in. By making use of forensic linguistic principles, methods and applications, it has been shown that it is possible to determine an individual’s idiolect. Even though forensic principles are specifically focused on identifying an author, the methodology used in the research field can be applied to a corpus linguistic study to determine how clearly an individual’s idiolect features across the boundaries of genres. By researching the research subject, explaining her oeuvre, creating a literary background, as well as discussing the literary approaches that Hambidge uses in her respective genres, and what she writes about, the necessary literary background was created, which contributes to the complete image of Hambidge and her influences. By creating this background, it is possible to determine which external factors have an influence on Hambidge's idiolect. Linguistic research was done to determine the origin and background of sociolinguistics; as well as factors that can influence an individual’s idiolect. The background of forensic linguistics was provided, as well as the various corpus linguistic methods that can be used in a study such as this one. After the background was provided, the empirical analysis was executed, in which both stylistic and stylometric analyses were performed by making use of inter- and intra-corpus linguistic research, according to which Hambidge’s idiolect was identified. To identify Hambidge’s idiolect, the Taalkommissie corpus was used as a reference corpus to determine whether the idiosyncratic characteristics that were found in the Hambidge corpus truly are a unique feature or whether they can also be found in the Taalkommissie corpus. The application and execution of the methods made it possible to determine to which extent, if at all, Hambidge has a unique idiolect, and how this idiolect features across the boundaries of genres. The research has determined that Joan Hambidge has a unique idiolect and that the idiolect is especially clear when research is done about her corpus in its entirety. When Hambidge’s separate genres were compared to each other, it was clear that genre influences idiolect, but also that Hambidge did not follow the prescribed genre conventions. Even though the two novels that were compared, did not match as was expected, the other, various genres did agree. Various categories were identified, from which it is clear that distinguishing characteristics can be found in Hambidge’s corpus. It can therefore be said without a doubt that Hambidge has a unique idiolect across the boundaries of genres.

Abstract:
In the history of exegesis 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 and 1 Timothy 2:11-15 have functioned as the heavy artillery against women in the ministries. From the 4th century BC, when the Church really started to develop from a dynamic underground movement of believers to a state Church organised in the image of the Roman Empire and so became the Catholic Church, women were more and more suppressed under the influence of deeply rooted Hellenistic anthropological ideas that were read into these passages. Only in the second half of the Twentieth Century, under the influence of changes in society after the sexual and feminist revolutions, changes set in that sparked the discussion about the role of women in the Church. This discussion is still continuing – in the Reformed tradition at least. These two passages, however, seem to oppose an overwhelming number of biblical themes and data that at least bring a strong nuance to the picture the two passages seem to portray. The creation of man and woman in the image of God and the protection for women against the arbitrariness of men clearly picture an original and principal equality of men and women. In the circle of disciples around Jesus Christ this becomes even more manifest. This attitude is also visible in the earliest churches. Paul expresses this in Galatians 3:28: In Christ there is no … male nor female. The passages that seem to limit the rights of women in the Church do not actually oppose this picture, but show that for the sake of the proclamation of the gospel not everything is (immediately) allowed. This dissertation attempted to interpret these two passages with the help of the grammatical-historic method. In 1 Corinthians 14:34-35 Paul personally intervenes in the apparent chaotic meetings of the cosmopolitan and charismatic congregation. He requires from different categories of participants – among them the married women that have a Christian husband – to not burden the fellowship with – in the case of the aforementioned women – their (otherwise rightful) participation in the discussion of the prophetic message during the worship service. In 1 Timothy 2:11-15 he gives his friend and student Timothy, the young pastor and teacher of the congregation in Ephesus, tools to call upon the members of the congregation not to start a revolution but to conquer the world for Christ by living an exemplary life. The context of this directive is a heresy that was particularly influencing some women that developed a prominent and domineering attitude in the Church. None of these directives or instructions of Paul talk about special ministries in the Church. It is all about attitude. For the sake of the steady progress of the gospel this attitude is to be determined by discipline and humbleness. However, the form this discipline and humbleness have largely depends on the context of the believers.

Abstract:
M.A.
This dissertation explores On The Contrary by Andre P. Brink against the backdrop of creative reading with emphasis on interpretation of the text as a process rather than as a product. The title On The Contrary is already indicative of the author's intention to unlock a myriad of interpretative possibilities in stead of tangibilitating a conclusion. The title also illuminates the principle that what is written is not necessarily what is said, that none of the content is cast in concrete and that the work concerns itself with the offering of contrasts: truth and untruth, imagination and reality, guilt and innocence. A symbiosis of dualism and parallelism is portrayed in order to enrich the potential for multiple text interpretations. Various texts are incorporated into the text of On The Contrary on an inter-textual basis, for the purpose of facilitating the interpretative process in an explicit and/or implicit manner. This study investigates and discusses the following three specific texts: • Don Quijote by Cervantes. Several explicit references are made to this canonised novel of Western literature, but it is the subtle, implied similarities between the lives of the characters Estienne Barbier and Don Quojote that serve as interpretative keys. • Jeanne d' Arc and her history. • The life history of Estienne Barbier, the historical 18 th century Cape figure. Remarkable documented similarities between the historical characters, Barbier and Jeanne d'Arc invite the analytical reader to try and establish the extent and purpose of incorporating the Jeanne d'Arc text into On The Contrary. Through the process of creative reading, the reader's assessment and understanding of Estienne Barbier, as a character in the novel, is moulded and formed by the life story and philosophy of Jeanne d'Arc. Barbier is constructed from a compound of historical facts and fictitious incidents. Historical "gaps" in the life of Estienne Barbier are compensated for through the introduction of elements from the life history and philosophy of Jeanne d'Arc. To that extent Barbier is a consequential character whose life and philosophy inextricably reflects examples derived from Jeanne d'Arc. The inter-textual process imbues a linear Estienne Barbier with depth in regard to the events that effect him and allows him to grow in the eyes of the reader, through fruitful application of parallels between the histories of Jeanne d'Arc and Estienne Barbier. The use of Jeanne d'Arc inter-textually and the virtual "retelling" of Jeanne, profoundly tell the story of a rebellious Barbier's "crusade" in pursuit of righteousness. In similar fashion the historical character Estienne Barbier is "told" into the romantic character Barbier in an attempt to transcend from imagination to reality. The reinterpretation of history, with the view of arriving at an alternative historical interpretation, becomes possible through the use of fiction. In primary instance this study investigates the manner in which the abovementioned three texts are incorporated inter-textually in the novel On The Contrary. Secondly an attempt is made to identify the narrative strategies that are used to arrive at a possible interpretation of the text and lastly it indulges in an exploration of the healing effect that the process of (imaginary) storytelling has in the lives of characters such as Don Quijote and Estienne Barbier.
