Abstract:
Presented analyses regarding academic-advisor job satisfaction are based on data from a survey administered to NACADA members in July 2005. Advisor job satisfaction in various environments and differences in satisfaction across personal demographics were studied. Academic advisors report high satisfaction overall as well as with student and supervision aspects of the job. Advisors are most satisfied with work variety, job benefits, and teamwork, and they are least satisfied with salary, recognition, and support for career opportunity. Environment variables most strongly related to job satisfaction were variety, empowerment, and teamwork. Advisors were least happy with the environment element of salary. Of the advisor variables, years of experience and advising style showed the strongest relationship with satisfaction. Relative Emphasis: practice, research, theory

Abstract:
At most institutions accredited by the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), a single advisor works with students enrolled in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program. This advisor provides advice on course loads as well as careers. As this advisor may make a lasting impression on students, his or her job satisfaction is critical. This exploratory study focused on four classes of determinants of advisor satisfaction. Data were obtained through a survey mailed to all AACSB-accredited schools. A regression analysis revealed that job- and advisor-descriptive variables explained most of the variation in satisfaction. Critical determinants included role clarity, work status, student orientation, and expertise in both technical and creative areas of advisement. This study suggests that full-time employment and clarification of job tasks may enhance advisor job satisfaction.

Implementation of law number 22 in the year of 1999 on regional autonomy has changed the management of government of Indonesia, both on the national scale and on a regional one. One of thegovernment institutions that got its impact is Family Planning Program. This program has implications, not only to advisor’s attitudes and work behaviors, such as job performance and working motivation but also to government commitment on the reception and implementation of this program namely formation of family planning institutions at theregional level. One of the attitudes indicated by the advisor in the form of complaints related to salary wages and operating costs are not considered balance with the workload that causes themotivation and performance of work decrease. Other phenomena are to turn over the workers in the family planning and other government institutions. Accumulation of these could be the cue of advisors’ weak commitment towards their institutions. Implications: This study can provide an understanding of job satisfaction and increase the extension's commitment in performing its duties.

The effect of national or local standards and guidelines on job satisfaction among professional and faculty academic advisors was studied using an on-line survey, focus group, and individual interviews. Findings support the proposition that the more connected advisors are to standards of practice, the greater their job satisfaction. Findings also indicate that student centeredness and availability of advising-related information resources were antecedents of job satisfaction among academic advisors.

Abstract:
In the lecture there is a permanent lecturer who serves as an Academic Adviser namely a person whose job is to provide students with assistance in adjusting to lectures and assisting students in solving problems encountered during college by providing various alternatives for students. Students are required to have abilities and expertise. To achieve the objectives of final year students and also universities in graduating the best graduates, communication between students and lecturers is needed. Because it is very influential in training mentally students and is very helpful for students in completing their lectures. The influence of an academic advisor can actually be an important factor for final year students, but students may also consider it to have no effect on their graduation. So the Naive Bayes method, in order to find out whether Academic Advisers play an important role in the graduation of final year students, students are asked to fill out a questionnaire relating to the influence or not of the Academic Advisor on final graduation. It is hoped that this study can determine the effect or absence of Academic Advisers on the graduation of final year students, later the results of the output from this system can be an evaluation material for universities.

Abstract:
Higher education institutions in the United States are under increasing pressure to retain and graduate more students. Traditionally, the academic advisor helps students to meet degree graduation requirements and may also do some minor career advising. A new approach is proposed, in which career coaching with industry help becomes just as important and is formalized into the academic advisor’s role. Under this approach, students are advised in relation not only to their progress towards their degree, but also to their progress towards their career. They undergo a required process to choose a career and must make progress towards it while pursuing their degree. The use of formal career coaching combined with academic advising is based on goal-setting theory and career planning research. This new approach to advising may lead to increased student retention and graduation rates and also to higher job satisfaction after graduation.

It is based on 132 semi-structured interviews with employee advisers, representatives of the five main representative trade union organizations (CGT, CFDT, FO, CFECGC and CFTC), employers' organizations and the State. By mobilizing the literature on union participation and job crafting, the study identifies three profiles of activism in the context of very small businesses: the "good soldier", the "rights defender" and the "societal fighter". The study highlights the mobilization of the job crafting process by employee advisers to build their union activism in very small companies. They manage resources and demands to build new trade union participation and extend their activism into new environments. The study also shows that union activism in very small firms is evolving towards more individualized relations with employees, greater autonomy and increasing professionalization of activities

Abstract:
This study investigated the relationships between personality, ability, biographical and sociographical factors on the one hand and criterion measures of job-relevant behaviour on the other. The aim of the study was to isolate success-predicting factors for a Personal Financial Advisor in a South African Bancassurance operation. The research was done by means of a criterion-related concurrent validation study. The sample consisted of 185 advisors with two years or longer sales tenure in the position. Predictor variables included measurement on a 20-dimension competency model, an ability assessment and 17 biographical and sociographical variables related to the position. Criterion variables included production figures and managerial ratings on advisor performance. Meaningful predictors for the success of financial advisors were found for personality, ability, biographical and sociographical variables, and the results confirmed the hypothesised competency model derived from a job analysis.
Industrial and Organisational Psychology
M. Abstract:
AbstractTo date, no systematic attempt has been made to describe the main features of the Italian policy advisory system. In particular, we know very little about the role of political scientists within it. This study addresses precisely this gap in the literature. First, by presenting original data derived from an online survey to which 177 Italian political scientists responded, we reconstruct frequency, type, recipient(s), and areas of their (potential) policy advice. Second, by focusing on two very relevant policy processes—the approval of the so-called Italicum (electoral law) and of the so-called Jobs Act (labour market reform)—we add insightful qualitative details to our quantitative analysis. Empirical results show that Italian political scientists are seldom engaged in policy advisory activities: many of them have never been. Moreover, there are no particular differences—from the point of view of personal characteristics (gender and level of academic career)—between policy advisors and the so-called pure academics. Finally, as the two case studies show, informal advice has the greatest impact on policymaking. This latter aspect reminds us of how much the Italian policy advisory system (PAS) is still poorly institutionalised and largely based on personal relationships as well as on political proximity.

Abstract:
AbstractThis chapter presents the research design of the ProSEPS comparative project on advisory roles of political scientists. In order to operationalize the theoretical concepts on policy advice and policy advisory roles as introduced in Chap. 10.1007/978-3-030-86005-9_2, the project uses the questions included in a large scale comparative survey to European political scientists conducted under the ProSEPS COST Action in 2018 to assess whether and how they engage in advisory activities. Chap. 3 first presents details about the content, scope, and implementation of this survey. Second, it describes how survey questions are used to operationalize the four basic types of advisory roles analyzed in the book (pure academic, expert, opinionating scholar, and public intellectual). Finally, the chapter also presents some details about the sample of 12 countries analyzed in the book, including on gender, job status, sub-disciplinary orientation, and external positions of political scientists.

Abstract:
With the rapid shift to remote learning because of the pandemic, the academic advisors of colleges and universities had to adapt and change some of the ways they were advising the traditional higher education students. In this new normal, where social distance needs to be present and non-traditional education takes precedence in the learning environment, academic advisors had to rapidly adjust and use different technology tools of virtual advising. Over the past few years, colleges and universities that offer distance education programs have been struggling in engaging and retaining their non-traditional online learners. However, with the pandemic, these institutions may encounter the challenge of not only retaining the non-traditional students but also, the new distance learners. Therefore, academic advisors will need to use creative ways of providing advising services in this new learning environment. Many studies have demonstrated that virtual advising has been helpful to aid the distance education students. Virtual advising uses different technology applications and platforms. Using it correctly can help students and advisors with the registration cycles and with any other concerns the students may have. In this chapter, the author explains academic advising and the role of an advisor, the definition of virtual advising, the importance of combining the different approaches of academic advising into virtual advising, and the different technology tools that can assist academic advisors when doing their job of supporting the students in the new learning environment.

Only recently has empirical research started to map who they are and what they do. This chapter presents the demography of policy analysts as professionals. It maps who policy analysts are, how they are trained, what they are called, what job positions they hold, what they are supposed to do, and which networks they entertain. The chapter treats policy analysis as an emerging profession. It will trace the professionalisation of policy analysis in a traditional Weberian sense and examine how analysts acquire authority and credentials, through formal training, degrees, and certification. The empirical material is derived from two sources. The first source is a cross-regional questionnaire on policy analysis in the federal and regional governments. The second source is an analysis of developments of job descriptions of policy advisors recruited by Belgian central recruitment agencies.

Abstract:
In January 1934, during one of the worst years of the Depression for job scarcity, over four hundred laundry workers from the Sunshine and Colonial Laundries in Brooklyn walked off the job. Included among the strikers was African American Dollie Robinson. The employers’ refusal to pay the workers thirty-one cents an hour, the new minimum wage established by New York State’s recently formed Minimum Fair Wage Advisory Committee, precipitated the strike. Supported by elite allies from the WTUL, including Eleanor Roosevelt and Cornelia Bryce Pinchot, the workers, half of whom were Black, stayed out for two months. An analysis of this groundbreaking strike demonstrates the symbiotic relationship between union organizing and legislation and the efficacy of elite support in amplifying the workers’ voices. It also reveals a growing ideological rift between increasingly radicalized workers determined to engage in militant action to enforce their newly won right to organize and their WTUL allies, who continued to promote orderly, respectable behavior to win public sympathy and state support for women’s unionism.

Abstract:
The paper focuses on regional disparities in ensuring the delegated powers of exercising the rights of Roma minority, specifically on the position of Roma adviser in municipalities with extended powers. Available data, national documents, policy papers are starting point for analysis of changing institutional back-up of the position of Roma adviser as a tool for ensuring the integration of the Roma minority at the regional level. Subsequently, there is a comparison of regional disparities in the positions of Roma advisor at the regional level. Reasons for observed disparities are identified in the persistent legislative vacuum, which arose after the abolition of district councils accompanied by the transfer of the delegated powers of exercising the rights of members of the Roma community to the municipalities with extended powers. Regional authorities are unable to enforce the establishment of the position of Roma advisor in municipalities with extended powers. Therefore, many municipalities prefer to not have any Roma advisor at all, or mostly Roma advisor became part time-job. Sometimes reluctance to ensure the Roma integration agenda by municipalities is on rise, which we can finally be seen on the three main types of argumentation lines used to defend the non-existence of the position of Roma advisor in the administrative architecture of municipalities.

Abstract:
One of the required ABET outcomes is “a recognition of the need for, and an ability to engage in lifelong learning.” Although students must demonstrate this recognition and ability at graduation, data from alumni can strengthen a program’s assertion that its graduates actually engage in lifelong learning. Several strategies for demonstrating lifelong learning are presented and discussed. In addition, a case study from the Mechanical Engineering Department at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology is presented. For the case study, several assessment instruments were used: an alumni survey, employer focus groups, an Advisory Board survey, and feedback from senior students. Each component will be discussed, results will be presented, and conclusions will be drawn. The alumni survey was made via the internet. The 760 respondents included graduates from the 1940s through the 2000s. Respondents were asked to indicate the number of additional courses or workshops that they had taken and whether or not they had received any additional degrees. Furthermore, respondents were asked to rate the importance of lifelong learning to their current job. In addition, they were asked to rate how well Rose had prepared them for lifelong learning. Employer perspective was gained through focus groups and the advisory board. Companies who were present at career fairs were asked to answer questions about Rose graduates in general. The ME Advisory Board contains members from institutions who are major employers of our graduates. Advisory board members gave feedback based on their knowledge of graduates’ performances. As in the alumni survey, both groups were asked to rate the importance of lifelong learning, along with how well Rose prepared them. Finally graduating seniors were asked to rate how important they felt lifelong learning would be in their careers. In addition, they were asked how well prepared they thought they were. All groups surveyed rated the ability to continue to learn and educate one’s self as being important, and all groups felt that RHIT graduates met the required standard.

Abstract:
In many fast-growing cities around the country, up to three- quarters of the land zoned for residential use is reserved for detached, single-family dwellings at suburban densities. This is both a climate justice and racial justice issue as it has the doubly negative impact of artificially constraining housing supply and driving up costs, forcing many lower and middle income families farther away from job centers and imposing on them long, costly, and carbon-intensive com- mutes. Single-family zoning was also used as an explicit tool to segregate the U.S. by race starting in the 1920s and, in the process, denied countless people of color access to home- ownership, the most powerful wealth-building tool available to U.S. families. This is a significant factor in the stark racial disparities in household wealth that we see today. This paper outlines the findings of a nationally cited report on single-family zoning released by the Seattle Planning Commission, which advises the City Council and Mayor on land use and housing policy and of which the author is a member. It also reviews a collaboration between the com- mission and a graduate research-based architectural design studio and seminar co-taught by the author. This collabo- ration re-envisions urban, single-family neighborhoods to be more equitable, sustainable and livable while engaging students in a national policy dialogue in the process. The results of the studio will advance the commission’s efforts to advise Seattle’s elected officials in revising public policy to be more aligned with the city’s climate and racial justice goals.

"A Review of Project Management Course Syllabi to Determine if They Reflect the Learner-centred Course Pedagogy [Abstract]." In InSITE 2019: Informing Science + IT Education Conferences: Jerusalem. Informing Science Institute, 2019. http://dx.doi.org/10.28945/4323.

Full text
Abstract:
Aim/Purpose: Project Management (PM) capability is one of the skill sets that employers across a broad range of industries are seeking with a projected current talent deficit of 1.5 million jobs. Background A course syllabus is both a tool and a resource used by the learners, the faculty, and the school to articulate what to learn, how to learn, and how and when to access and evaluate the learning outcomes. A learner-centred course syllabus can enhance the teaching, the learning, and the assessment and evaluation processes. A learner-centred pedagogy seeks to create a community of learners by sharing power between the teachers and the students, providing multiple assessments, evaluations, and feedback mechanisms. Methodology: This study seeks to find out if the PM course syllabi reflect the attributes of a learner-centred pedagogy through a content analysis of 76 PM course syllabi gathered in 2018 from instructors affiliated with the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in the USA. Contribution: On the issue of PM content, only seven percent (7%) of the syllabi articulate that students would be involved in “real world” experiential projects or be exposed to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) areas and process groups. Findings: The results reveal that PM instructors fall short in creating a community of learners by not disclosing their teaching philosophy, beliefs, or assumptions about learning and tend not to share power, and do not encourage teacher-student interactions. Recommendations for Practitioners: Schools should try to align their programs both to the local and the national job markets by engaging PM practitioners as advisors. When engaged as ad-visors, PM practitioners provide balance and direction on curriculum design or redesign, emerging industry innovations, as well as avenues for internships and job opportunities. Recommendation for Researchers: PM has various elements associated with entrepreneurship and management and is also heavily weighted towards the use of projects and technology, making it a good candidate for learner-centred pedagogy. However, researchers should explore this assertion further by comparing the attainment of learning outcomes and students’ overall performance in a learner-centred and a non-learner-centred PM course. Impact on Society: To minimize this talent deficit individuals as well as the academy should invest in PM education and one approach that may increase the enthusiasm in the PM coursework is having a learner-centred pedagogy. Future Research: Researchers should explore this line of research further by gathering syllabi from other regions such as the European Union, Asia, Africa, Australia, etc. as well as conduct a comparative study between these various regions in order to find if there are similarities or differences in how PM is taught.

Abstract:
People sit at the heart of digital transformation in Higher Education. Often, they are ‘Third Space’ support staff, including Learning Designers, Education Technologists and Academic Developers, broadly defined here as ‘edvisors’ – educator-advisors. Edvisors share their expertise of pedagogy and technology to support, guide and lead change in teaching practices but they can be hampered by numerous factors that diminish their ability to contribute meaningfully. While the work that some types of edvisors – largely academic developers and learning designers – do is well represented in research, there has been little consideration of these underlying challenges. This paper reports on a survey of 58 edvisors in 24 Higher Education institutions in Australia relating to their perceptions of how their work is understood and valued by their direct managers, edvisors in other roles in their institution, academics and other managers in the institution. The data were analysed to look for variations by role type, job title, academic/professional classification, gender, and qualifications. Results show that edvisors feel their work is more valued than understood overall but relationships between different edvisor role types can be more fractious than those they have with academics. Improving understanding and valuing of edvisors is vital to their contribution to transformation.

Abstract:
In the post-global economic and financial crisis, Europe is suffering from significantly low levels of investment. This applies both to national level in the individual Member States and to those with a supranational scope. For this reason, the EC tried to stimulate the development of any investment initiative through the Juncker Plan, which is based on three pillars: the European Fund for Strategic Investments, the European Investment Advisory Center and the European Investment Projects Portal, and third, improving the business environment by removing regulatory barriers to investment at national and European level. Policies in this direction will continue and build on over the period 2021-2027 through the InvestEU program, which aims to continue to support increased investment, innovation and job creation in Europe. The process of implementation of each such initiative directly affects the individual legal and natural persons as investors who enter different bond relations, which have both national and international dimension. The development of new investment products and instruments would be unthinkable without the Bank’s involvement as a major creditor in the implementation of investment projects. This fact shows that it is necessary to examine the legal guarantees for the protection of creditors in these relationships in case of possible threat the debtor to damage the creditor in case of unfavourable development of the respective investment initiative. This paper will justify the significance and the peculiarities of Paul’s claim as a means of protecting creditors in the context of a developing EU investment environment and its legal framework. This method of preventing the decline of the asset and / or the increase of the liability of the debtor’s property is characterized by extreme persistence over time as a legal institution that originated in the Roman era and has survived to the present without losing its significance.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract Well testing is one of the vital process as part of reservoir performance monitoring. As field matures with increase in number of well stock, testing becomes tedious job in terms of resources (MPFM and test separators) and this affect the production quota delivery. In addition, the test data validation and approval follow a business process that needs up to 10 days before to accept or reject the well tests. The volume of well tests conducted were almost 10,000 and out of them around 10 To 15 % of tests were rejected statistically per year. The objective of the paper is to develop a methodology to reduce well test rejections and timely raising the flag for operator intervention to recommence the well test. This case study was applied in a mature field, which is producing for 40 years that has good volume of historical well test data is available. This paper discusses the development of a data driven Well test data analyzer and Optimizer supported by artificial intelligence (AI) for wells being tested using MPFM in two staged approach. The motivating idea is to ingest historical, real-time data, well model performance curve and prescribe the quality of the well test data to provide flag to operator on real time. The ML prediction results helps testing operations and can reduce the test acceptance turnaround timing drastically from 10 days to hours. In Second layer, an unsupervised model with historical data is helping to identify the parameters that affecting for rejection of the well test example duration of testing, choke size, GOR etc. The outcome from the modeling will be incorporated in updating the well test procedure and testing Philosophy. This approach is being under evaluation stage in one of the asset in ADNOC Onshore. The results are expected to be reducing the well test rejection by at least 5 % that further optimize the resources required and improve the back allocation process. Furthermore, real time flagging of the test Quality will help in reduction of validation cycle from 10 days hours to improve the well testing cycle process. This methodology improves integrated reservoir management compliance of well testing requirements in asset where resources are limited. This methodology is envisioned to be integrated with full field digital oil field Implementation. This is a novel approach to apply machine learning and artificial intelligence application to well testing. It maximizes the utilization of real-time data for creating advisory system that improve test data quality monitoring and timely decision-making to reduce the well test rejection.
