Full textThe purpose of this essay is to examine what can be considered as obscene in the work of Joel
Peter Witkin and Marc Quinn, what the similarities and differences are. The essay concerns the
human body, the norms around it and the old vision of the ideal body. To get closer to my
question Ive been examine the meaning of anti-ideal, what it means and what kind of history it
has. The works Ive been using to reach to my purpose are Marc Quinns sculpture Alison Lapper
(2005) and Joel Peter Witkins photography Abundance (1997). Both of the works are taking the
position that use to belong to the classical beauty. The analysis of these works focuses on the old
classical symbol interpretation, the character of the work and the doubt in the old ideal norms of
the classical beauty.

Full textThe purpose: restitute the augustinian Pascal to his specific atmosphere, the bible. The whole of his writings is decrypted in constant reference with the biblical "fore-text", on the horizon of courter-reform and port-royalist translation of the bible. The Pensées must be readed like a palimpsest of the book, and especially of the book of Job, according to a metonymy. The same apocalyptic structure can be detected in the bible, its monad, the famous poem of the Old Testament and the apology. Job is the "peg" of its moving architecture, in the double parallel between him and Salomon or Moses. The main point is that job, as figure of Christ, according to the traditional spiritual exegesis, gives the "key" of mystery of evil Pascal stands clear of theodicies, and his job's lecture is radically different from the later interpretations which will consider the man of Hus as a challenger of god. The answer is religious. It reverberates only the dogma. The sacrificial theology of the author, inseparable of his conception of surnatural temporality brings to light the catharsis of evil

The area studied is located on the north-easternmost portion of the Borborema Province, on the so-called S?o Jos? de Campestre Massif, States of RN and PB, Northeast Brazil. Field relations and petrographic, geochemical and isotope data permitted the separation of five suites of plutonic rocks: alkali-feldspar granite (Caxexa Pluton), which constitutes the main subject of this dissertation, amphibole-biotite granite (Cabe?udo Pluton), biotite microgranite, gabbronorite to monzonite (Basic to Intermediate Suite) and aluminous granitoid. The Caxexa Pluton is laterally associated to the Rem?gio Pocinhos Shear Zone, with its emplacement along the mylonitic contact between the gneissic basement and the micashists. This pluton corresponds to a syntectonic intrusion elongated in the N-S direction, with about 50 km2 of outcropping surface. It is composed exclusively of alkali-feldspar granites, having clinopyroxene (aegirine-augite and hedenbergite), andradite-rich garnet, sphene and magnetite. It is classified geochemically as high silica rocks (>70 % wt), metaluminous to slightly peraluminous (normative corindon < 1%), with high total alkalis (>10% wt), Sr, iron number (#Fe=90-98) and agpaitic index (0.86-1.00), and positive europium anomaly. The Cabe?udo Pluton is composed of porphyritic rocks, commonly containing basic to intermediate magmatic enclaves often with mingling and mixing textures. Petrographically, it presents k-feldspar and plagioclase phenocrysts as the essential minerals, besides the accessories amphibole, biotite, sphene and magnetite. It is metaluminous and shows characteristics transitional between the calc-alkaline and alkaline series (or monzonitic subalkaline). Its REE content is greater than those ones of the Caxexa Pluton and biotite microgranite, and all spectra have negative europium anomalies. The biotite microgranites occur mainly on the central and eastern portion of the mapped area, as dykes and sheets with decimetric thickness, hosted principally in orthogneisses and micashists. Their field relationships as regards the Caxexa and Cabe?udo plutons suggested that they are late-tectonic intrusions. They are typically biotite granites, having also sphene, amphibole, allanite, opaques and zircon in the accessory assemblage. Geochemically they can be distinguished from the porphyritic types because the biotite microgranites are more evolved, peraluminous, and have more fractionated REE spectra. The Basic to Intermediate rocks form a volumetrically expressive elliptical, kilometric scale body on the Southeast, as well as sheets in micashists. They are classified as gabbronorites to monzonites, with the two pyroxenes and biotite, besides subordinated amounts of amphibole, sphene, ilmenite and allanite. These rocks do not show a well-defined geochemical trend, however they may possibly represent a monzonitic (shoshonitic) series. Their REE spectra have negative europium anomalies and REE contents greater than the other suites. The aluminous granitoids are volumetrically restricted, and have been observed in close association with migmatised micashists bordering the gabbronorite pluton. They are composed of almandine-rich garnet, andalusite, biotite and muscovite, and are akin to the peraluminous suites. Rb-Sr (whole rock) and Sm-Nd (whole-rock and mineral) isotopes furnished a minimum estimate of the crystallization (578?14 Ma) and the final resetting age of the Rb-Sr system (536?4 Ma) in the Caxexa Pluton. The aluminous granitoid has a Sm-Nd garnet age similar to that one of the Caxexa Pluton, that is 574?67 Ma. The strong interaction of shear bands and pegmatite dykes favoured the opening of the Rb-Sr system for the Caxexa Pluton and biotite microgranite. The amphibole-plagioclase geothermometer and the Al-in amphibole geobarometer indicate minimum conditions of 560?C and 7 kbar for the Cabe?udo Pluton, 730?C and 6 kbar for the microgranite and 743?C and 5 kbar for the basic to intermediate suite. The Zr saturation geothermometer reveals temperatures of respectively 855?C, 812?C and 957?C for those suites, whereas the Caxexa Pluton shows temperatures of around 757?C. The Caxexa, Cabe?udo and microgranites suites crystallized under high fO2 (presence of magnetite). On the other hand, the occurrence of ilmenite suggests less oxidant conditions in the basic to intermediate suite. Field relations demonstrate the intrusive character of the granitoids into a tectonically relatively stable continental crust. This is corroborated by petrographic and geochemical data, which suggest a late- or post-collisional tectonic context. It follows that the generation and emplacement of those granitoid suites is related to the latest events of the Brasiliano orogeny. Finally, the relationships between eNd (600 Ma), TDM (Nd) and initial Sr isotope ratio (ISr) do not permit to define the precise sources of the granitoids. Nevertheless, trace element modelling and isotopic comparisons suggest the participation of the metasomatised mantle in the generation of these suites, probably modified by different degrees of crustal contamination. In this way, a metasomatised mantle would not be a particular characteristic of the Neoproterozoic lithosphere, but a remarkable feature of this portion of the Borborema Province since Archaean and Paleoproterozoic times.

This master's research aims to understand the relationship between: executive work and contemporary business practices, in a capitalist society, called "society of late modernity". This study were prioritized topics related to corporate practice, such as working in contemporary thinking observing characteristics that approach and move away from other historical moments; understand the work, its meanings, its transformations and its current strategies; reflect on the perspective that man has over time and its relation to change their way of living; discuss the process of dehumanization of work and interpersonal relationships in contemporary; know the man's attitudes toward work and life in a capitalist society; observe and describe the current configuration of the labor market in some private national and multinational companies in Rio de Janeiro. The study of the issues mentioned joints allowed weaving about how man relates to contemporary corporate work and other aspects of life, as well as the narrowing of free time and shortening of life due to the high cult of "performance". The methodological choice made in this research is a qualitative approach and narrative interview method, which combines theoretical reflections to empirical investigation, questioning the reality of everyday professionals who occupy or have occupied leadership positions in companies. Changes in importance and ramifications of the work currently observed are related to changes in the way our society has dealt with time, and its acceleration with life. Life understood more broadly, where there is space for professional and personal achievement in different spaces, as well as the possibility of performing a job that befit motivations, interests and capabilities of the individual with an effective contribution to society, aligned to individual values. The option to use the terminology "society of late modernity" rather than "modern society" stems from the observation of the progressive incorporation of capitalist ideals associated with the acceleration of time and ways of living it, by what has been going production processes, the work, and other dimensions of human life. The work in the corporate world obeys particular rules, which articulated beyond the current economic model, the capitalist, embeds practices and rituals that emphasize the high cult of "performance". This research aims to analyze the work of executives. To do this, we will try to analyze it according to the models adopted in some private companies that consider how the corporate world and the implications of adopting these models to pursue a fuller life in an existential sense, from my corporate experience and analysis interviews with executives

The of Serrinha plutonic suite, northeastern portion of the Borborema Province (NE Brazil), is characterized by a voluminous and diversified magmatism of Neoproterozoic age, intrusive in the Archean to Paleoproterozoic gneissic-migmatitic basement of the S?o Jos? de Campestre massif. Field relations and petrographic and geochemical data allowed us to individualize different lithologic types among this plutonic suite, which is represented by intermediate to mafic enclaves, porphyritic diorites, porphyritic granitoids, porphyritic granodiorites, microporphyritic granites and dykes/sheets of microgranite. The intermediate-to-mafic enclaves occur associated with porphyritic granitoids, showing mixture textures. The porphyrytic diorites occur as isolated bodies, generally associated with intermediate-to-mafic enclaves and locally as enclaves within porphyritic granites. The granodiorites represent mixing between an intermediate to mafic magma with an acidic one. The micropophyritic granites occur as isolated small bodies, generally deformed, while the microgranite dykes/sheets crosscut all the previous granitoids. A U-Pb zircon age of 576 + 3 Ma was obtained for the Serrinha granite. This age is interpreted as age of the peak of the regional ductile deformational event (D3) and of the associated the E-W Rio Jacu shear zone, which control the emplacement of the Neoproterozoic syntectonic plutons. The porphyrytic granitoids show monzogranitic composition, transitional between peraluminous and metaluminous types, typically of the high potassium subalkaline-calc-alkaline series. The intermediate-to-mafic enclaves present vary from quartz diorite to tonalite/granodiorite, with metaluminous, shoshonitic affinity. The diorites are generally quartz-monzodiorite in composition, with metaluminous, subalkaline affinity. They display coarse-grained, inequigranular, porphyrytic texture, with predominance of plagioclase phenocrystals immersed in a matrix composed of biotite and pyroxenes. The microporphyrytic granites are essentially monzogranites of fine- to medium-grained texture, whereas microgranite dikes/sheets varying from monzogranites to syenogranites, with fine to media texture, equigranular. The diversified magmatism occurring at a relatively small surface associated with shear zones, suggests lithospheric dimensions for such structures, with magma extractions from different depths within the lower crust and upper mantle. The geological, geochemical and geochronological characteristics of the Serrinha plutonic suite suggest a pos-collisional geodynamic context for the Neoproterozoic magmatism. Thermobarometric data show emplacement conditions in the range 5-6 kbar (AlTamphibole) and 730-740?C (plagioclase-amphibole) for the porphyrytic granitoids (Serrinha body) and the intermediate-to-mafic enclaves

Full textInstinct tells us that sickness is an ill from which we must recover, but we must know if instinct is enough to explain what is evident, in other words, if reason can even account for what resists its hold on rationality. In short, if it's possible to argue "with reason" on a question which, from the outset, involves the subject. This work falls within the scope of hermeneutic phenomenology. It questions the critical life experience of confronting "serious illness", meaning an illness that "nature" cannot cure, and looks at what the effort required to recover teaches us about our humanity. Separate from the perspective which seeks to identify “the essence of the cure,” my aim is to interpret what is at play in the subject's personality, who undertakes to recover, in other words maintains their commitment, independently of the objective conditions for recovery. As taking into consideration both individual and collective health requirements could mask the subjective element of the relationship to health in the growing importance accorded to the concept of care and ‘’good’’ care. With the best intentions in the world health research could avoid the question of the subject's participation in defining "living well" and transform itself into a new attempt to normalize humanity. I have chosen to examine the conditions for the possibility of and upholding of our resistance as a subject for the confrontation with illness strips us of our power and obliges us to make a stand for life, for a meaning to life, despite being exposed to death. The moment of truth – and in this sense an event – where the self of the subject, is at stake. Faced with illness, the subject experiences an ordeal which is intimately bound to their attitude to life, which itself is no longer evident. I try to throw some light on which subject medical practice addresses to elicit interrogation and if possible to open a new area of resources for people responsible for healing. Resources which lead to a rethinking of our relationship to sensitive subjects and the illusion of one’s compassionate control. Resources which reconsider the subject’s capacity to resist “the way things are”. Resources which make and remake the vital link to life, of which the primary test for us is always “emotional,” convinced that if the subject alone decides their recovery, none can heal alone. My reasoning will explore the entrenchment, or not, of the subject in the affectivity of life, look again at the potential or necessary link between affectivity and liberty as well as the connection between the one and the other to responsibility. This will lead us to question the paradigm of resilience to consider the subject's capacity for integration, to question guilt as the norm which regulates the moral conscience and disaffection with love in order to remain master of one's self.I want to show that the phenomenon of resilience does not permit the hypothesis of a possible integrity of the subject; resilience can also be considered as an artifact produced by an individual who assembles an attitude to the disaster residing in them and destroying them bit by bit.I put forward the, without doubt thorny, hypothesis, that guilt is an accomplice of the physical and moral ill and thereby alters a resistant subject's ability to confront the situation. That emotional integrity, “at the heart of the subject” has always preceded the ill and affirms before any destructiveness and negativity a “generosity of self.”Lastly, I will explore the ability to love as a reality of the highest importance to consider the integrity of a subject, filled with the love of life who undertakes to spread "good". From this, comes this generosity, this is what, in the framework of our research, we call “healing.”

Changes in the world economic and social context, particularly in recent decades, have had a direct impact on school and produced perverse effects on the lives of teachers, who see themselves pressured by society, towards fulfil the role that is not in line with reality. Requires them to provide quality teaching within a massive system based on competitiveness, often with human and material resources with low wages and precarious employment, an increase of functions, which are exacerbated contributes to a growing malaise among teachers, bolstered by the negative perspective that society will building many of these professionals, based, frequently, and in parameters, at least debatable. Lead the teacher a thorough self-criticism that redefine your role; carry out a thorough analysis of the present crisis, revealing its true magnitude; present viable solutions to overcoming the current impasse, are some of the objectives of this survey.

Full textIn our analysis of subjectivity in The Flowers of Evil, it seemed necessary to start with the last section, entitled "Death". Indeed, when we treat not the subject but subjectivity, a natural function in the relationship between the subject and others, the analysis of the end becomes fundamental, because the resulting loss reveals a subjectivity reduced to nothing. This analysis of "Death" guides us to key elements on this baudelairian notion, especially as this poem that ends the collection ends with the death to which is committed all persons, including ourselves. It thus seems that the subjectivity of this work only functions thanks to its relation with the readers. The Flowers of Evil begins with "Blessing," followed by "Spleen and Ideal," then "To the Reader" placed as a prologue. "Parisian paintings" follows in the second edition. By passing the three sections, "The Wine", "Flowers of Evil" and "Revolt", "The Journey" concludes this collection which is distinguished from nothing by the two births of the poet, evoked in "Blessing" and "Death" . Although The Flowers of Evil was condemned in 1857 and the six plays were removed, Baudelaire rewrote the thirty-five new poems and published in 1861 the second edition : this deadly experience of the Flowers of Evil has an influence on death baudelairian that gives birth to a unique type of subjectivity. "The death" that is treated thematically was however, in the edition of 1857, composed by the three poems, "The Death of the lovers", "The Death of the poor" and "The Death of the artists". Then, in the 1861 edition, Baudelaire added the three new poems, "The End of a Day," "The Dream of a Curious One" and "The Journey." "The Death of the artists" is the last poem of the first edition and responds to the birth of the poet in "Blessing". It can be compared to the "Voyage", the last poem of the second edition, in which the poet orders death in these words : “O Death, old captain, it is time! let's raise the anchor!” As a dark allegory that presages the end of life. It is then that one realizes that with "The Journey" the meaning of the collection changes radically, because it teaches us that death is only the beginning

Full textWritten as such (with a slash),“re/membering” encapsulates the following three-fold meaning: (1) a “re-membering”, to indicate “a putting together of the dismembered past to make sense of the trauma of the present” (Bhabha 1994:63); as (2) a “re-membering” or a re-integration into a group and; as (3) “remembering” which implies possessing “memory or … set [ting] off in search of a memory” (Ricoeur 2004:4). As a morphological unit, “re/membering” designates, the ways in which Filipino authors try to articulate cultural identity through the routes of colonisation, migration and dictatorship.
The authors studied in this thesis include: Carlos Bulosan, Bienvenido Santos, N.V.M. Gonzalez, Nick Joaquin, Frank Sionil José, Ninotchka Rosca, Jessica Hagedorn, and Merlinda Bobis. Sixty-years separate Bulosan’s America is in the Heart (1943) from Hagedorn’s Dream Jungle (2003). Analysis of these works reveals how articulation is both difficult and hopeful. On the one hand, authors criticize the lack of efforts and seriousness towards articulation of cultural identity as re/membering (coming to terms with the past, fostering belonging and cultivating memory). Not only is re/membering challenged by double-consciousness (Du Bois 1994), dismemberment and forgetting, moreover, its necessity is likewise hard to recognize because of pain, trauma, phenomena of splitting, escapist attitudes and preferences for a “comfortable captivity”.
On the other hand, re/membering can also be described as hopeful by the way authors themselves make use of literature to articulate identity through research, dialogue, time, reconciliation and re-creation. Although painstaking and difficult, re/membering is important and necessary because what is at stake is an articulated Philippine cultural identity. However, who would be prepared to make the effort?
------

Full textABSTRACT: “Torino Mad Pride” and “Lunatics at Piecework” are two initiatives put in place following informal paths by a group of consumers/survivors, independent from the Mental Health or other institutions. This renders them unique in the panorama of the local consumers movements that see in prominent roles professionals or family members. They aim to give support to people affected by psychic “malaise” and organize initiatives to fight stigma. They stem from the idea of S., who during a manic delusional phase saw masses of people gathering in the streets of the city following him. Originally, he only wanted to make a movie out of this idea, to present to film festivals. Then a more complex idea took shape, and the first Torino Mad Pride parade was organized. It was June 2011, a lot of people were involved (service users, mental health workers, family members, users’ organizations, etc.). The participation was unexpected, and even the mayor of town paraded. With time the idea has evolved, the “Lunatics at Piecework” project (the embryo of an “informal” cooperative involving about thirty people in temporary jobs) has taken on legs, the annual parade has been regularly organised, a magazine dedicated to writings on topics related to mental health has been irregularly released. In November 2014 some members of LaP contacted me as the director of the Job Placement Unit of the Mental Health Department where I worked, to discuss a collaboration in terms of financial support through the assignment of grants to give life to a social cooperative, and of appointment of LaP to create jobs in favour of patients in charge of the Mental Health Department (house removals, minor refurbishments, etc.) This study revisits the history of these projects, collected from the voices of the key players and of some significant bystanders, and analyses the reasons behind the ups and downs and the present difficulties, and what should be done to give the projects new energies.
