Im Februar 2017 hatte die SLUB das große Glück, einen bisher verschollen geglaubten Teil der Korrespondenz zwischen dem Altertumsforscher und Kunsthistoriker Johann Joachim Winckelmann (1717–1768) und dem Grafen Joseph Anton Gabaleon von Wackerbarth-Salmour (1685–1761), Erzieher und Oberhofmeister des sächsischen Kurprinzen Friedrich Christian (1722-1763), mit großzügiger finanzieller Unterstützung der Ernst von Siemens Kunststiftung (EvS) und der Kulturstiftung der Länder (KSL) erwerben zu können. Am 25. September 2017 wurde die außergewöhnliche Erwerbung im Beisein der Staatsministerin für Wissenschaft und Kunst Dr. Eva-Maria Stange, des Generalsekretärs der EvS Dr. Martin Hoernes, des kommissarischen Generalsekretärs der KSL Prof. Dr. Frank Druffner und des Herausgebers der Winckelmann-Gesamtausgabe Prof. Dr. Max Kunze offiziell vorgestellt.

Abstract:

In addition to his renowned musical output, Richard Wagner produced a logorrhoeic prose oeuvre, including a dramatic sketch of the last weeks of the life of Jesus Christ entitled Jesus von Nazareth. Though drafted in 1848-1849, it was published only posthumously, and has therefore been somewhat neglected in the otherwise voluminous Wagnerian literature. This thesis first examines the origins of Jesus von Nazareth amidst the climate of revolution wherein it was conceived, ascertaining its place within Wagner’s own internal development and amongst the radical thinkers who influenced it. While Ludwig Feuerbach has traditionally been seen as the most prominent of these, this thesis examines Wagner’s sources more broadly. The thesis then summarizes and analyzes Jesus von Nazareth itself, particularly in terms of Wagner’s use of biblical scripture. The thesis demonstrates how his not infrequent misuse thereof constitutes one way in which Wagner transmogrifies Jesus as mutable lens through which his own ideology of social revolution is reflected. It also attempts to provide a critical assessment of the relative dramatic merits of Jesus von Nazareth and looks into Wagner’s ultimate decision not to complete the work. The thesis then briefly summarizes the changes that occurred in Wagner’s mature Christological outlook subsequent to his drafting of Jesus von Nazareth, attempting to concisely demonstrate some developments beyond Wagner’s well-known encounter with the philosophy of Arthur Schopenhauer. The thesis concludes with an evaluation of how Jesus von Nazareth informed Wagner’s general religious outlook and the extent to which this worldview is a productive one.

Abstract:

Ce travail consiste en une analyse des raisons de la genèse et de la disparition du concept de système en philosophie. Prenant appui sur le constat, relayé par Heidegger, de l'absence de revendication présente de cette configuration singulière du savoir, il en reformule l'exigence première afin de comprendre ce que métaphysiquement elle a pu engager, et ce qui progressivement aura pu en elle paraitre intenable. La première partie dégage une structure formelle du système commune à l'ensemble des penseurs de l'idéalisme allemand, de 1789 à 1800, et dès les premiers post-kantiens. Or cette systématicité, même à s'appuyer sur la subjectivité, reste trop extérieure à la chose-même, si bien que ces deux concepts n'apparaissent que comme des conditions de possibilités du système, non comme ses conséquences. La seconde partie, s'appuyant sur l'analyse de Heidegger, reprend le questionnement en dégageant le sens ontologique. Ainsi le système est-il une ontologie de la présence à soi absolue, que l’hégélianisme accomplit sans réserve. La troisième partie, en un premier moment, montre qu'au sein de l'idéalisme allemand, les considérations théologiques de Fichte et de Schelling ont progressivement mené a un retrait de l'ontologie de la présence, et donc du système. En un second moment, elle insiste sur la critique proprement phénoménologique qu'en fait Heidegger, et ouvre à une philosophie hors-système
This work is an analysis of the reasons for the genesis and disappearance of the concept of system in philosophy. Starting first from the fact that as Heidegger had noticed - this particular form of knowledge is nowhere claimed today, it reformulates its primary exigencies, in order to understand what it may have involved metaphysically and what may afterwards have appeared progressively untenable. The first part deliveates a formal structure of the system common to all the thinkers who built German, idealism, from 1789 to 1800, and from the first pre-Kantians onwards. Now this systematicity, even when it leans on subjectivity, remains too exterior to the thing by itself, so that these two concepts appear only as conditions that render the system possible, not as its consequences. The second part, relying on Heidegger’s analysis, resumes the search and brings out its ontological meaning. In this light, the system is ontology of the absolute presence to itself, which is accomplished unreservedly by Hegelianism. The third part, in first stage, shows that within German idealism the theological reflections of Fitche and Schelling gradually led to a retreat of the ontology of presence, and therefore of the system. In a second stage, it dwells on Heidegger’s properly phenomenological critique, and paves the way for a philosophy beyond any system

Comment produit-on un système du savoir absolu? Le présent travail aborde cette question en analysant le rapport du sujet à sa parole, tel qu'il se présente dans l'idéalisme allemand : il s'agit, à partir d'une phénoménologie de la prise de parole, d'éclairer le devenir des systèmes postkantiens. Les quatre premiers chapitres tentent de dégager leurs conditions de production : l'idéalisme allemand trouve dans Spinoza une certaine conception du sujet, celle de la négation de la différence, qui s'oppose à la figure cartésienne du sujet porte-parole, et en fait la clé de voute d'un système entendu comme discours de l'institution, l'espace de parole du savoir absolu supposant de mettre le sujet a la place du mort. Les chapitres cinq à huit tentent de rendre compte du premier état du système de Fichte, Schelling et Hegel, et les chapitres neuf à dix esquissent leur évolution. L'impossibilité d'introduire dans le discours ce qui est soustrait par l'entrée dans la parole semble expliquer l'inachèvement de l'entreprise de Fichte et de Schelling et le hiatus qui subsiste chez Hegel entre le système et sa phénoménologie
How do we build a system of absolute knowledge? The present research tries to answer that question analyzing the subject speech relationship as seen in the systems of German idealism, which means highlighting the evolution of post-Kantian systems thanks to a phenomenology of speaking-up. The first four chapters try to make out the conditions of production of these systems : German idealism find in Spinoza certain conception of subject as negation of the difference, which is opposed to the Cartesian scheme of a word-bearer subject, and become the key-stone of the system seen as the institution-speech, the space of speaking of absolute knowledge impling putting the subject on the dead's place. Chapters five to eight try to give an account of the first state of Fichte, Schelling and Hegel’s system, chapters nine and ten give a hint of their evolution. The impossibility of introducing in the speech what is substracted by the speaking-up seems to explain the incompletion of Fichte and Schelling’s purpose and the discrepancy which still exists between Hegel’s system and its phenomenology

Abstract The diploma thesis fucuses on the paintings by Hendrick van Balen (1575-1632), which are found in Czech collections. The main point of this thesis is a figurative stint in cabinet painting, which was the domain of the Antwerp painter Hendrick van Balen. there will be also hightlighted Hendrick van Balen's collaboration with Jan Brueghel Older, who became a part of his work as the author of still life and nature in Balen's paintings. On specific works from the Czech collections will by pointed out the possible inspiration in the figures of rudolfinian masters Hans von Aachen and Josef Heintz and parallels in their work, and the influence on the cabinet painting of the 18th century painters, Johan Georg Platzer (1704-1761) and his follower Franz Christophr Jannecka (1703-1761). Abstract:

Die zentrale Fragestellung dieser Arbeit ist, welche Impulse der Konzertagent Hermann Wolff (1845-1902) dem Berliner Musikleben im Zeitraum zwischen der Gründung seiner Konzertdirektion 1880 und seinem Tod 1902 gab. Um diese Frage zu beantworten, werden seine Tätigkeit und sein Wirkungskreis untersucht und Umfang, Grad sowie die Natur seines Einflusses ausgewertet. Diese Arbeit weist nach, dass sich der Einfluss seiner Tätigkeit auf das Berliner Musikleben nicht nur in der Quantität der stattgefundenen Konzerte, sondern auch in ihrer künstlerischen Qualität und in ihrem Inhalt (Programmgestaltung, Aufführende, Konzertstätten, Programmhefterstellung usw.) zeigt. Sie legt auch dar, dass er zwischen den damaligen europäischen Musikmetropolen einen Personen- und Informationsaustausch vermittelte und dadurch bei der Entstehung eines Standards im Konzertleben eine wichtige Rolle spielte.

Abstract:

This thesis concerns a peer Francis Thun (1809-1871) who was one of the most important personalities in the public and cultural life in Bohemia from the 30s till the end of the 60s of the 19th century. Thun {--} a gifted visual artist himself - was particularly interested in the institutions connected with the visual art. The author shows where his long-life interest in the visual arts was formed. She follows his childhood, upbringing, his own artistic beginning and his studies. She particularly considers his ways around Europe and his stay in Dresden, that used to be one of the most important centres of the European Romanticism, and more than a year-long traveling around England, western Europe and Italy. The last part of this thesis deliberates František Thun{\crq}s public activities {--} mainly his work in the artistic politics and in the care of monuments. This work also follows Thun{\crq}s personal life, particularly his marriage with a burgher girl thanks to it he couldn{\crq}t inherite the fideicommissum. This biography is mainly based on personal materials {--} letters and diaries. In terms of them it attempts to show Thun{\crq}s personality and his important life moments.

Abstract:

80 percent of Clara Schumann‘s playbills in her complete collection of concert programmes (Robert-Schumann-Haus Zwickau) include vocal participation of solo singers, choirs or actors. The question is to which extent Clara Schumann used to accompany these vocal contributions herself on the piano. Only rarely are other accompanists named on the concert playbills, but evidence from concert reviews suggests that these vocal contributions normally served as rests for the solo pianist. Sometimes separate accompanists are named in the concert reviews. In orchestral concerts it was usually the conductor who accompanied solo songs on the piano, not the solo pianist. The Popular Concerts in St. James’s Hall in London were chamber concerts, which had a regular accompanist who was labelled as „conductor“ though there was no orchestra participating. These accompanists sometimes also performed with instrumentalists, e. g. basso continuo music from the 18th century or piano reductions of orchestral concerts.

Visual perception and product design; an intrinsic relationship where the human component is the connecting link. The need to understand and define the mechanisms and processes that determine the existence of perception and its visual component as individual characteristics, leads to the need to relate these factors to inseparable issues of human activity and interaction, where design is an integral part. Once it is up to the designer the ensurance that each person sees his or her needs bridged by tools designed for this purpose (whether it is within the field of objects, or services), the need for visual factors and man's interactive ideas to be well known and understood, is the way to find that “optimal solution”. Transposing the perceptive aspect into the context of this work: within the question of the relationship with the object and its evolution, we must focus on the period between the industrial revolution and the present, through the point of view of design. Given the task of identifying needs and finding their solutions, it is about understanding, on the one hand, how methodologically and procedurally the designer facet of the designer has evolved in the pedagogical and practical fields, and on the other, the impact it has had at the social level and vice versa. For this, the understanding of the main perceptive theories studied over the last century is a crucial reference to understand this evolution. Once this path is identified, it becomes necessary to establish the “state of art” about these issues. Given its indispensability for a designer, it is crucial to keep this knowledge updated so that it can be managed during design activity, once its role is based on the knowledge and understanding of the human component about his surrounding environment.

In hierdie navorsingsverslag word die representasie van die reg en die verskynsel van die verhoor as romangegewe in enkele tekste van André P. Brink ondersoek. Die studie vind plaas binne die interdissiplinêre konteks van die reg en die letterkunde. Die studie: (i) fokus op die rol wat die reg in die literêre teks vervul; (ii) ondersoek uitbeeldings van die verhoor soos wat dit in Brink se romankuns aangetref word; en (iii) ondersoek die fiksionalisering van historiese en dokumentêre regsbronne met spesifieke verwysing na sekere eksemplariese Brink-‐romans.
In this research report, representations of the law and of the trial, as embedded in certain novels by André P. Brink, are explored. The study is structured within the interdisciplinary field of law and literature. This study: (i) focuses on the role of law within the literary text; (ii) explores the legal delineation of a trial in novels by Brink; and (iii) explores the fictionalisation of historic and documentary judicatory resources with specific reference to exemplary texts by Brink.

Abstract:

The central subject of this work is how the drawing can be fundamental and crucial as a tool for product and service development in design. The work starts with a historical analysis of the drawing theory to achieve a clear view of how sketch and drawing can stimulate creativity. This work passes through three stages. First, a historical review where is investigated the drawing as a project aid; the unique value of him; and also the differences and resemblances between sketch and drawing. Secondly, the contemporary utility given to him in the design world, where the concept of design is defined; the way drawing entered in the fine arts landscape; and the primordial functions of the drawing in the creative process used by the designer to create. Third, the elaboration of a graphic exploitation of three objects, that puts in practice some of the investigated theoretical questions, such as the use of the sketch in the first phase of a project – Discovery – when the record is as ambiguous as the own concept; and the achievement of the total definition of a project only using drawing. Based on the theoretical investigation and in the practical exploration is possible to claim that the sketch helps to define the problematic of the issues proposed to the designer and that the drawing defines the solution. In other words, the drawing provides the discovery of new forms and meanings that can result in an innovative object. The practical project revealed the possibility of drawing and sketching the same three objects with countless approaches with only one starting point. The movement and gesture were the fundamental elements to make that happen. It can confirm that the drawing benefits from a personal language, expressed by point and line. The necessary information used to the elaboration of this investigation can be found in the bibliographical list at the end of the work. All the information was analyzed and filtered to guaranteed the veracity of the work.
