The role of women in some prose works of C.M. van den Heever Re-reading the C.M. van den Heever “classics” Somer (1935) and Laat vrugte (1939) within the framework of Van den Heever criticism through the years, one becomes aware that central themes in his oeuvre are acted out by women. The beautiful young girl Linda in Somer embodies the sadness of the transcience of beauty and happiness. Through Ouma Willa, Betta and Johanna – three women from three generations in Laat vrugte – the theme of the endurance of the memory of love and passion beyond decay and death is expressed. A cursory examination of other and earlier works by Van den Heever – Op die plaas (1927), Langs die grootpad (1928), Kromburg (1937) and the short story “Leuens” (Lies) from Vuurvlieg en sterre (1934) – bears out the observation that women express core meanings in C.M. van den Heever’s prose works.

Abstract:
The model of Late Pleistocene-Holocene sequence stratigraphy of the subaqueous Red River delta and the adjacent shelf is proposed by interpretation of high-resolution seismic documents and comparison with previous research results on Holocene sedimentary evolution on the delta plain. Four units (U1, U2, U3, and U4) and four sequence stratigraphic surfaces (SB1, TS, TRS and MFS) were determined. The formation of these units and surfaces is related to the global sea-level change in Late Pleistocene-Holocene. SB1, defined as the sequence boundary, was generated by subaerial processes during the Late Pleistocene regression and could be remolded partially or significantly by transgressive ravinement processes subsequently. The basal unit U1 (fluvial formations) within incised valleys is arranged into the lowstand systems tract (LST) formed in the early slow sea-level rise ~19-14.5 cal.kyr BP, the U2 unit is arranged into the early transgressive systems tract (E-TST) deposited mainly within incised-valleys under the tide-influenced river to estuarine conditions in the rapid sea-level rise ~14.5-9 cal.kyr BP, the U3 unit is arranged into the late transgressive systems tract (L-TST) deposited widely on the continental shelf in the fully marine condition during the late sea-level rise ~9-7 cal.kyr BP, and the U4 unit represents for the highstand systems tract (HST) with clinoform structure surrounding the modern delta coast, extending to the water depth of 25-30 m, developed by sediments from the Red River system in ~3-0 cal.kyr BP.ReferencesBadley M.E., 1985. Abstract:
The identity directed message of 1 John: Hermeneutical cohesion of text, situation and theology. A fairly recent stimulating and creative article by Judith Lieu on the hermeneutics of 1 John has prompted the Johannine researchers to react. She analyses 1 John from the viewpoint of a rhetorical reading of the text to exclusively provide the hermeneutical meaning of the text. Her article has merits to stimulate Johannine researchers to react, which did not happen. It is the purpose of this contribution to test her hermeneutical conclusions and rather to propose a multidimensional exegetical approach to unlock the meaning of 1 John. A rhetorical reading is to be combined with a projected reconstruction of the socio-historical situation of the first historical readers as well as an exegetical analysis of the theological content to obtain a balanced hermeneutical result, considering the theological message of 1 John. The presentation of the theological content focuses on the Christian identity of the historically intended believing readers.

Abstract:
Van de vele kerken die in de loop van de middeleeuwen in de stad Utrecht werden gebouwd hadden er vijf een bijzondere band met elkaar. Dat zijn de Salvator of Oudmunster en de kerken toegewijd aan Martinus (voorloper van de huidige Dom), Petrus, Johannes en Maria. De onderlinge band van deze kapittelkerken komt onder andere naar voren in vieringen van de liturgie gedurende het jaar door meer kapittels gezamenlijk. Deze gezamenlijke liturgie wordt beschouwd als een manifestatie van de onderlinge verbondenheid van de vijf kapittels en wordt wel aangeduid als stadsliturgie of stedelijke kapittelliturgie. Van drie van de vijf kerken is een liber ordinarius bewaard en van Oudmunster ook nog een kostersboek. Nauwkeurige bestudering van de organisatie en de vormgeving van de liturgie van de Goede Week in deze bronnen geeft inzicht in de eigenheid van de liturgische praktijk in de afzonderlijke kerken. Zo blijkt dat niet alle rituelen in alle vijf kerken gevierd werden en dat er verschillen waren in de uitvoering en vormgeving. En hoewel gedeelten van de liturgie weliswaar door meer kapittels gezamenlijk werden gevierd, komt uit de bronnen naar voren dat vooral de twee oudste kapittels van Dom en Oudmunster samen optrekken. Hun onderlinge historische band komt sterker naar voren dan de gezamenlijke band tussen de vijf kapittels.

Abstract:
The same acuity that is evident in John Calvin’s theological writings accompanied his correspondence. Calvin’s mission was not to support God, but to honour him. Divine revelation and the glory of God underlie the content of his letters. The audacious confidence with which he writes, reveals his utter reliance upon the veracity of Scripture, which understanding must be conveyed through sound teaching. Yet, his letters are not inundated with scriptural references or quotes in the fashion of a medical prescription. Rather the connection between Scripture and writing for Calvin were twofold: it lies in the foundations of sound theology applied pastorally. This undergirded his pastoral care. To bring that across in his correspondence with Duchess Renata Ferrara, he followed basic doctrinal principles, evident from many of his letters applied pastorally to the recipient(s) of the letter.Calvyn se pastorale benadering soos waargeneem in sy briewe. Tog maak hy nie in sy briewe op oordrewe wyse van teksverwysings of aanhalings gebruik om sy teologiete staaf nie. Die verband tussen die Skrif en sy skryfwerk was eerder vir Calvyn ’n tweeledige saak: dit berus naamlik op gesonde teologie wat pastoraal toegepas word. Dit blyk derhalwe uit baie van sy briewe, soos dié aan die Hertogin Renata Ferrara, dat hy die metode volg ombasiese dogmatiese leerstellings in sy korrespondensie uit te lê en met pastorale sorg toe te pas.

Dit nummer van het Tijdschrift voor Communicatiewetenschap bevat vijf artikelen. Twee artikelen zijn geschreven door auteurs uit Vlaanderen en drie artikelen zijn van de hand van Nederlandse auteurs. De gebruikte onderzoeksmethoden variëren van surveys, inhoudsanalyse en meta-analyse tot critical discours analysis.Het eerste artikel is geschreven door Denis Wegge, Heidi Vandebosch en Steven Eggermont en de gepresenteerde studie relateert offline sociale relaties op school aan cyberpesten bij jongeren. Zowel de invloed van de sociale positie op slachtofferschap, als de verhouding tussen slachtoffers en daders worden bestudeerd. Hiervoor is een survey uitgevoerd onder 12-tot 13-jarigen van een volledig eerste jaar van een secundaire school. Uit de sociale netwerkanalyse blijkt dat zowel positieve als negatieve onderlinge relaties in een schoolcontext een impact hebben op online pesten.Noortje Slot, Esther Rozendaal, Eva van Reijmersdal en Moniek Buijzen hebben onderzocht of kinderen (9-12 jaar) het doel van reclame in online sociale netwerken (Habbo) begrijpen en in welke mate zij gevoelig zijn voor de mening van leeftijdsgenoten met betrekking tot merknamen die in deze netwerken ingebed worden. Zij presenteren dit onderzoek in het tweede artikel in dit nummer en zij beschrijven hoe deze variabelen het verlangen naar de geadverteerde merken in online sociale netwerken beïnvloeden.In het derde artikel stellen Lien De Cang en Katia Segers de vraag centraal hoe de Belgische radio-omroep N.I.R. in het pretelevisionele tijdperk (1930-1953) op bestuurs- en directieniveau reflecteerde en invulling gaf aan zijn centrale missie tot publieke dienstverlening. Hiervoor hebben zij een kwalitatieve inhoudsanalyse van beleidsdocumenten en geschriften van directieleden uitgevoerd. Met het onderzoek tonen zij een paternalistische visie omtrent PSB (public service broadcasting) alsmede verdeelde opvattingen over het publiek en over hoe het publiek bediend moet worden.Inge Verdonschot en Johannes von Engelhardt analyseren de representatie van de watersnoodramp in Pakistan (2010) op de Nederlandse televisie. Zij baseren zich op het theoretische en methodische kader van Chouliaraki (2006) voor hun ‘critical discourse analysis’ naar de representatie van deze watersnoodramp. De analyse laat zien hoe het nos Journaal binnen het spanningsveld tussen communitarianisme en kosmopolitisme betekenis geeft aan de ramp, waarbij de hiërarchische oppositie van het Westen tegenover de Pakistaanse Ander duidelijk intact blijft.Tot slot presenteren Piet Bakker en Peter Vasterman in het vijfde artikel de resultaten van hun meta-analyse van de communicatiewetenschappelijke studies die in de periode 2006-2011 zijn verschenen over Geert Wilders. Zij beschrijven welke methoden en theorieën dominant zijn binnen dit onderzoek, en welke media en welke aspecten van de relatie tussen Wilders en de media aan bod komen. Daarnaast wordt gekeken of er conclusies te trekken zijn over ‘Wilders en de media’ na bestudering van deze grote hoeveelheid onderzoek.

Abstract:
Malignant hyperthermia (MH) is a clinical response happened to patient who is sensitive with inhaled anesthesia drug that could cause suddently death. Many previous studies showed that malignant hyperthermia strongly related to genetic background of patients including RYR1, CACNA1S or STAC3 gene polymorphisms. With the development of high technology such as next generation sequencing, scientists found that 37 to 86 percents of MH cases had RYR1 mutations and approximately 1 percent of those had CACNA1S mutations. Abstract:
In this study it is assumed from a central theoretical argument that the Bible based, scripturally true liturgical song, possesses an exceptional bonding structure. The set literary archetypes of the dramatic, epic and lyric - or the dramatical, epical and lyrical - are woven together to form the canvas for the hymnical praise of the worshipping community. The aim of the study is to dissect the relationship in which the archetypes stand to one another and to establish which trans–generical phenomena and movements can be detected in order to determine what their meaning is for liturgical songwriting. This is done on the basis of an analysis of the Book of Revelation, specifically pertaining to the hymnographical corpus in the book. To do this the most obvious meta–theory of this study is the literary theory, while the basis, principles and guidelines of the hymnographical basistheory are determined by theological biblical science. In the first main chapter (meta–theory) of the study the questions of what literature is and whether the Bible is literature, are explored and answered. The conclusion to this is that the Bible is true literature and that this religious script plays a central, unique and prominent role in the progression of the christian–western cultural world. In the process of determining the different approaches to the study of literature, note was taken of the various theoretical assumptions and theories and of the influence that each has and can have on theological biblical scientifical research. In the second main part (inter–disciplinary theoretical aspects) the investigation proceeds from the study of meta–theoretical literary terrain identification to the determining of the connection, link, sym–biosis and synergy between the literary meta–theory and the theological basistheory of this study. Shared and partly overlapping study terrains of the literary sciences and the bibilical sciences are explored. This leads to the demarcation of both an inter–disciplinary and multisubdisciplinary field of study, for which an approach and a method to further explore had to be developed. In the third main part (basistheory) the perspectives gained in the first two parts are unlocked to the advantage of the biblical scientifical study of Revelation. The last book of the Bible is analysed macro–structurally by means of a narratological reading and accompanied by a cursory–exegetic explanation, after which the meaning of the corpus of hymnical microtexts in their context within the macro–structure are further unlocked by means of detailed exegesis. In this way basis–theoretical hymnographical priniciples in Revelation can be identified. These are integrated in the fourth and last main part and are then concretised, using a song as example, in guidelines for hymnography. In this final main part (the outcome of the study) the investigation reaches its set aims as well as the overall goal in that it could be verified that the canvas of the liturgical song should be integrated successfully not only wordperfect, but also Wordperfect in all its facets through literary quality and biblical–principled motivation. This should allow the flame (= liturgical song) of the sacrifice of thanksgiving (= worship) to burn brightly in a time of diverse positions on church song.

Szobotka-Visser was nauw verbonden met de zogenaamde kindertreinacties, die de aanleiding vormden voor haar verhuizing naar Hongarije.

It is a scene of devastation, as far as the eye can see. Swathes of bleak landscape, with strewn boulders embedded in a sticky mass of sandy clay. Here and there are signs of a little more order—distinct spreads of gravel or patches of fine sand. Mostly, though, it looks as though every type of sediment, from fine clay to house-sized blocks, has simply been stirred together and spread across the land. Remove the crops and topsoil of gentle Leicestershire and Suffolk, or of central Germany or Kansas, and this is what lies beneath. Between the ordered sedimentary strata of the distant geological past and the ordered calm of the present is evidence of an only-just-elapsed catastrophe, and two centuries ago, when the science of the Earth was young, the naturalists of those days pondered on what it might mean. There were those like the young William Buckland, both Reader in mineralogy at Oxford and priest (he went on to become Dean of Westminster), who saw in it evidence of the biblical Deluge. Or Jean André de Luc, mentor to the wife of George III, who considered that the large blocks had been fired, like Roman ballista, from the mountains by some powerful but mysterious explosions. Or Sir James Hall, a savant of Edinburgh, who thought that the blocks had been carried into position by tsunamis, generated when large areas of sea floor (he supposed) suddenly popped up like blisters—he was clearly of an intellectually playful disposition. Or Leopold von Buch, who invoked catastrophic mudflows (one such, indeed, did take place in an Alpine valley, the Val de Bagnes, just after von Buch’s paper on this topic was published, when a natural dam burst, scattering mud and boulders far down the valley, and killing many people). But it was that extraordinary polymath, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (a one-time Superintendent of Mines, if you please) who was among the first to sense what had been going on, when he associated the scattered blocks with a great expansion of the Alpine glaciers he was familiar with, and coined the term Eiszeit —the Ice Age.
