Abstract:
Kata-kata Kunci: Kebenaran, teori korespondensi, teori koherensi, teori deflasioner, teori tindak-tutur, aspek ilokusioner bahasa, tuturan deskriptif, tuturan performatif, konvensi deskriptif, konvensi demonstratif. Abstract: John Langshaw Austin is an “Ordinary Language Philosopher” of Oxford, who is famous for emphasizing the importance of performative statements. In his article, “Truth” (1950), however, he used correspondence theory for understanding the problem of truth. Austin criticized Strawson, who uses the deflationary theory of truth that is compatible with the analysis of performative utterances. This article will explain why Austin chooses the correspondence theory of truth rather than deflationary one. It will also elaborate Austin’s specific contribution in changing the version of the correspondence theory, which uses the metaphor of “mirroring” or “mapping”’ the world, to a conventional correspondence theory. It is, in my opinion, a serious and notable attempt to articulate our use of arbitrary symbols in the representation of brute reality. Keywords: Truth, correspondence theory, coherence theory, deflationary theory, speech-act theory, the illocutionary aspect of language, descriptive utterance, performative utterance, descriptive convention, demonstrative convention.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The thesis presents a development of J. L. Austin's analysis of truth and its accompanying analysis of sentence structure. This involves a discussion and refinement of Austin's notions of the demonstrative and descriptive conventions of language and of the demonstrative and descriptive devices of sentences. The main point of the thesis is that ordinary language must be treated as an historical phenomenon: one that has evolved its more complex features through a long series of variations upon a small number of rudimentary conventions and locutions. The utility of Austin's analysis is shown to lie in the description that it provides of the functions of these rudimentary conventions and locutions. The analysis is used to illuminate a number of problematic sentences and expressions of ordinary language, including identity sentences, definite descriptions, existential sentences, and conditionals.

Abstract:
This thesis analyses performativity of gender theory in Judith Butler’s thinking and, within last chapter, it faces Luisa Muraro’s works concerning metonymic language. In Butler one finds at least two ways of conceiving performativity. Within Gender Trouble and Bodies that matter, perfomativity is interpreted as citationality, that is, the repetition of gender and sex conversational rules, which set up and produce the bodies as intelligible subjects. This meaning of performativity has had an outstanding importance within subsequent queer studies. A second meaning of performativity can be found in Exitable speech and The Psychic Life of Power: it refers to the subject native moment, when she sets herself up in language and speech due to a questioning request. In such a performativity, the perlocutory and illocutary power of language gives life to gender subjectivity. The thesis, which takes up Austin’s theory of linguistic acts, assumes the feminist method of starting from herself. The part concerning Muraro’s thought, develops the thesis of the metonymic performativity. Working out again crossed-axis theory of Roman Jakobson, owing which meaning primary generation occurs along a double symbolic line – of metaphor and metonymy – Muraro defines a “ipermetaphoricity - regime”, within which the linguistic/symbolic production of metaphors, exploits the metonymic one. The language metonymic axis, cuts, breaks the citational performativity, thus opening to contingency and to a new meaning of subjectivity

An Essqy in the Philosophy of Language(1969).
Abstract: In this thesis I decided to study the rhetorical structure of theoretical studies of language, aiming to reflect upon the discursive practice involved in the production of linguistic knowledge. In doing so, I have questioned the cientificist discourse that postulates the adoption of certain concepts and a certain method of formalization as a precondition for the characterization of knowledge. Based on an integrationist theoretical perspective (Harris, 1981,1998) centred on a concept of language inspired on Wittgenstein which enables us to question the founding myths of linguistics as well as to emphasise the actions of integration in communication, I have chosen as an object of research the traditional interpretation of J. Austin's theory of speech acts carried out by the philosopher J. Searle, through the analysis of the rhetorical structure of the text "Speech Acts -An Essay in the Philosophy of Language"(1969). Starting from the idea that the theoretical reformulation of Austin done by Searle together with its acceptance and resulting repercussions on linguistics and philosophy are the result of language myth, I analysed the processes of production, interpretation and distribution of Searle's text and concluded that the traditional conceptions of the cientificist and positivist discourse as well as its formal rhetoric configure an order of discourse which is specific to the studies of language which, in this work, I call 'fear of death'. In order to carry out this analysis, I discussed the place of rhetoric in a theory of discourse, promoting a theoretical/methodological revision of the method proposed by Margutti Pinto (1998) in his analysis of the argumentative procedures of Wittgenstein. Thus I elaborated, by studying the rhetoric Searle used when interpreting Austin, a proposal of rhetorical analysis by a criticaldiscursive approach (Fairclough, 2001) which is in tine with the integrationist program which includes amongst its objectives a conscious realisation of the integral character of our actions as linguists and academics, originating in the political, interactive and social natures of our linguistic experience

Abstract:
The article considers the question of the reality of reflecting the will of the people and their interests in the state legislation, as well as in the process of implementing legal norms. In the light of John Austin’s theory of the legal power of the sovereign’s (people’s) command, the role and place of an individual citizen in the process of lawmaking in a modern constitutional state is analyzed. It is concluded that modeling the sovereignty of the people based on the Austin concept leads to the denial of the distinction between the rule of law and the rule of people.

Croft, Michael E. "A Decade of Safety Improvements Nets an “Ace Safety Year” at the Hampton/NASA Steam Plant." In 9th Annual North American Waste-to-Energy Conference. American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 2001. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/nawtec9-118.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract During 1999, the Hampton/NASA Steam Plant achieved a distinguishing safety milestone by completing the year without a single OSHA recordable accident. At the end of the year, the plant had also worked 422 consecutive days without a lost time accident. The Steam Plant Manager, John Austin, called this significant milestone the “Ace Safety Year”. Over the decade Worker’s Compensation and medical expenditures decreased form $153,000 to just $234 by 1995. The savings in insurances premiums is now equal to the amounts spent annually on all safety equipment, employee physicals and uniforms. The Hampton/NASA Steam Plant is a Waste-to-Energy facility located on the NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA. The facility provides the Center steam energy by burning municipal waste from the City of Hampton and neighboring communities. The steam plant operates 365 days a year 24 hours a day with a staff of 34 full time employees. A Joint Board represents the owners, the Federal Government and the City of Hampton, and directs the operations and finances of the enterprise through a Steam Plant Manager. In 1990, the Joint Board decided to select a mechanical engineer with extensive power plant experience as the new plant manger. After initial assessments of the facility and its programs, the manager’s first priority was to establish a new safety program and safety attitude. By January of 1992 the new safety program was fully implemented. This new safety success began with a top down attitude with the plant manager designating himself as having the overall responsibility of the safety program. The Operations Manager was designated the Steam Plant Safety Officer, and half of his time would be shifted to performing safety duties. An independent Safety Committee was formed to help re-engineer safety procedures and spark safety awareness. Safety training now begins on day one with all new employees and contractors are given intensive orientation consisting of training for all steam plant safety programs and protective equipment. Safety procedures and training were emphasized for every task or event Every training event had to include a safety related component. Team leaders were all sent to OSHA 40 Hour General Safety Training. The Safety Officer was charged with becoming our safety expert by attending specialized OSHA training and seminars. Safety success is now viewed as an issue of educating and exciting managers and workers. Personal Protective Equipment expenditures were tripled and went beyond requirements. Procedures were developed to reduce employee exposure to below all OSHA action levels. Respiratory protection was increased by issuing each worker powered air purifying respirators. All employees are now given respirator physicals. Safety shoes and prescription safety glasses were purchased for all employees. An extensive Safety Awards program is used as an annual re-focus to safety. As employees gained trust and confidence in the safety program, “near misses” began to be reported. Suddenly we had a facility that was full of safety enthusiasts. Worker’s Compensation costs and premiums have continued to decline. Then in our twentieth year of operation, we achieved our greatest safety milestone: ZERO accidents.

Abstract:
: The role of Critical thinking skill in developing 21st-century teaching profession can’t be overstated. Projecting into the future, critical thinking is expected to serve as tools for integrating Artificial Intelligence into the teaching profession as well as an antidote to the threats of artificial intelligence to the teaching profession in the machine learning age. This study investigates John Dewey's philosophy on critical thinking and reviews existing literature on teaching profession. The questions raised by this study include: what is critical thinking requirement skill in 21st century? Does critical thinking serve as a means of integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into the teaching profession? What is the basic critical thinking skill and strategies needed for effective teaching that serve as an antidote to AI threats? The results imply that teachers need to acquire critical skills in order to outsmart machine, which has become a threat to many professions including teaching. The relevant teacher is one that does not function like a programmed machine. Ability to think critically is the answer to the “Austria vision 2030”( Machine learning age), teachers need to think critically in the teaching profession innovation as a major means to overcome AI threat and in order to be relevant in 21st century machine learning age. Abstract:
The paper addresses the question why people are entering training programs which disseminate knowledge necessary for becoming part of the journalistic profession and how these motives go along with the intention to become a member of the profession. Therefore it draws on data collected among students in journalism related programs in Austria in 2015 (n=352) and tests the linkage between socioeconomic background of the students, their motives for entering a program and how these affect the intention to work in the field of journalism. Factor analysis allowed the identification of four main motives: political and social agency; employment driven; social benefits; and calling/talent. Results show that a) motives for entering a program differ according to the socioeconomic background of the respondents. And b) the intention to work in the field is higher if motives tied to the ideas of agency and calling are reported and lower if employment driven motives are predominant. This leads to the conclusion that the motivation of students to join the journalistic profession is deeply related to believes and normative aspirations of individuals.

Abstract:
BackgroundCare recipients in care and welfare are increasingly presenting themselves with complex needs (Huber et al., 2016). An answer to this is the integrated organization of care and welfare in a way that personalized care is the measure (Topol, 2016). The reality, however, is that care and welfare are still mainly offered in a standardized, specialized and fragmented way. This imbalance between the need for care and the supply of care not only leads to under-treatment and over-treatment and thus to less (experienced) quality, but also entails the risk of mis-treatment, which means that patient safety is at stake (Berwick, 2005). It also leads to a reduction in the functioning of citizens and unnecessary healthcare cost (Olsson et al, 2009).Integrated CareIntegrated care is the by fellow human beings experienced smooth process of effective help, care and service provided by various disciplines in the zero line, the first line, the second line and the third line in healthcare and welfare, as close as possible (Ettema et al, 2018; Goodwin et al, 2015). Integrated care starts with an extensive assessment with the care recipient. Then the required care and services in the zero line, the first line, the second line and / or the third line are coordinated between different care providers. The care is then delivered to the person (fellow human) at home or as close as possible (Bruce and Parry, 2015; Evers and Paulus, 2015; Lewis, 2015; Spicer, 2015; Cringles, 2002).AimSupport societal participation, quality of live and reduce care demand and costs in people with complex care demands, through integration of healthcare and welfare servicesMethods (overview)1. Create best healthcare and welfare practices in Slovenia, Poland, Austria, Norway, UK, Finland, The Netherlands: three integrated best care practices per involved country 2. Get insight in working mechanisms of favourable outcomes (by studying the contexts, mechanisms and outcomes) to enable personalised integrated care for meeting the complex care demand of people focussed on societal participation in all integrated care best practices.3. Disclose program design features and requirements regarding finance, governance, accountability and management for European policymakers, national policy makers, regional policymakers, national umbrella organisations for healthcare and welfare, funding organisations, and managers of healthcare and welfare organisations.4.
