This article is a very personal attempt, within the horizon opened up by the Prologue of the Gospel of John and the past century of Christian theology, to articulate seven maxims in answer to the question, Who is Jesus now? The maxims focus on the Gospel story, analogical thought and imagination, living before the face of Jesus, covenantal commitment, being sent as Jesus was sent, reconciliation, and continuing surprises. Key references are to the Gospel of John, Hans Frei, Frances Young, Richard Hays, David Tracy, Denise Levertov, and Jean Vanier, and to ecumenism and Scriptural Reasoning, wh

ABSTRACT The figural reading approach of Richard Hays can be developed further in various ways through consideration of the Gospel of John. The narrative focus can be broadened to encompass other aspects of the analogical imagination. As all four Gospels, in Hays's reading, take up and transform Israel's Scriptures, so the Gospel of John can be read as taking up and transforming the Synoptic Gospels, with John learning from a culture of creative rewriting. John's own rewriting encourages readers to improvise in thought and action on what he writes. This “reading forwards” takes up what Hays ca

It then proceeds to a critical dialogue that questions Hays' identification of his understanding of figural exegesis with that of the church fathers. And within this context, the conversation piece aims to greet the Masques in their peculiar way that they demand; by the blurring of auth

ABSTRACT Richard Hays's new book does for the four Gospels what his 1989 work (Echoes of Scripture in the Letters of Paul) did for Paul—up to a point. His paradigm-shifting argument here is to show that a metaleptic reading of key scriptural echoes and allusions in the Gospels indicate that all four Evangelists intended to tell the story of Jesus as the story of Israel's God appearing in person, thus overturning the long-held view that only John offers a “fully divine” Christology. John Austin and Hans Kelsen are widely recognized as influential legal experts. Their theories and thoughts about law are still a reference for jurists around the world. John Austin's Legal Positivism Theory offers a scientific and measurable legal paradigm when most existing legal products do not have certainty and are not measurable with certainty. Meanwhile, Hans Kelsen's Pure Law theory was also born as a form of response to various legal products at that time which could not be separated from various social, political, and cultural interests. So that law as a product of the state does not

Abstract:

Abstract:
During his career, Louis Becke, the most internationally well-known Australian writer of the South Pacific region at the turn of the nineteenth century, wrote a series of novellas, stories, and articles that featured the infamous conman and thief, Captain William ‘Bully’ Hayes, with whom he had sailed through the Pacific Islands for a short period. Influenced by the work of Robert Louis Stevenson and earlier accounts of piracy in the Pacific, Becke’s fictionalized version of Hayes was the original archetypal South Pacific pirate character: a Long John Silver of the South Seas.
