DCB means direct copper bonding and denotes a process in which copper and a ceramic material are directly bonded. Between the temperature of the metal's melting point and the eutectic temperature of the metal-oxygen, DCB depends on the eutectic compound to join the copper and the ceramic. We do some research to investigate the interface between the copper foils and Al2O3 ceramics; it is the key factor in influencing the performance of the DCB substrate. We also discuss how to get good microstructure of the DCB interface.

Moreover, the comparison of Ti/Al2O3 and Ni/Al2O3 laminates showed that the join mechanisms of them were different. The joining experiments were performed by hot pressing at 1200–1300 °C under uniaxial pressures of 55 and 80 MPa for 1- and 5-h durations, with and without a nanocrystalline interlayer. Successful joints were enabled only above 1250 °C in the presence of the interlayer. Generally, the joint 4-point bending strength increased with the increase in joining temperature, pressure, and duration. Welding is a fabrication process used to join materials, usually metals or thermoplastics, together. During welding, the work pieces to be joined are melted at the joining interface and usually a filler material is added to forma weld pool of molten material that solidifies to become a strong joint. In contrast, Soldering and Brazing do not involve melting the work piece but rather a lower melting point material is melted between the work pieces to bond them together. Heat conduction across a joint of two solids occurs practically in every heat generated system. A significant temperature gradient occurs as heat is transferred by conduction across the joint of two solids. This is due to the thermal contact resistance generated by the surface irregularities. As shown in Figure 3.1, only a small fraction of points (less than 5%) are actually contacting each other for any two nominally flat surfaces. Therefore, additional thermal resistances, including constriction and spreading resistances are generated because of reduction of heat transfer area at the interfa
