This is the first study to use the self-organisation (Kohonen) map technique, an artificial neural network based on a non-supervised learning algorithm, to categorise Vietnamese banks into super-class groups. Drawing on unbalanced yearly data from 2008 to 2017, this study identifies two super-class groups (one and two). While group one consists of joint stock banks, group two consists of commercial state and joint stock banks. Using the non-structural indicator, the Lerner index, to capture market power, and the data enveloped analysis technique to measure bank performance, our result shows si

We study 33 Chinese banks from December 2009 to December 2020 to examine the moral hazard behavior of Chinese banks from the perspective of nonperforming loans (NPLs). The results show that banks with low returns are more likely to engage in risk-taking behavior and have a high number of NPLs. The government could adopt regulations that would help joint stock banks to be more prudential and encourage city and rural banks to take more risks.

The structural vector auto-regression model determines the relationship between two variables. The positive shock of sustainable financing business negatively impacts the financial risk management of banks. In contrast, positive shock of banks’ financial risk management positively affects sustainable financing. Fur

Few banks of consequence had failed in the interim. The last such failure, the focus of this article, was that of the Munster Bank in 1885. That event tells us much about the history of Irish banking before recent events.

The paper uses the secondary data of 26 banks with 182 observations for the period of 2008–2014 and applies the panel data regression method. The empirical results indicate that lending scale, credit risk, capitalization, and in-terest rate have positive impacts on net interest margin. In contrast, managerial efficiency has a negative effect on net interest margin. However, bank size and loan to deposit ratio are statistically insig-nificant to net interest margin.

This study explores parliamentary reforms related to the financial accountability of banks following the 1825–6 and 1836–7 financial crises in England. An appraisal of nineteenth-century parliamentary Hansard transcripts reveals early banking legislative pursuits. The study observes the laissez-faire and interventionist approaches towards the banking enactments of 1826, 1833 and 1844 that underpin the transformation of financial accountability during this era. The Bank Notes Act 1826 imposed financial accountability on the Bank of England by requiring the mandatory disclosure of notes issued.
