Full textThe researches reported in this broadly conceived thesis focuses on the perception of juggling and jugglers by following etiological, hexeological and praxeological approaches belonging to the field of anthropomotricity. The first part of this research examines the biological-physical ambiguity of motor control when juggling a basic pattern to The second part focuses on jugglers habits, their identity being now restricted to object manipulators whereas they have their own logic of activity. The third part traces the historical roots of European juggling by exploring an expression attached to them, Enfant de la Balle becoming a metasymbolic identity. The thesis as a whole thus covers a broad range of topics and presents several results that are meaningful within disciplines as well as across the disciplines to which they refer and leads to a transdisiplinary vision of the relationship between man and his environment
Nunzi, Francois. "Autour de quelques chaines de Markov combinatoires." Thesis, Sorbonne Paris Cité, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016USPCC270/document.
Full textWe consider two types of combinatoric Markov chains. We start with Juggling Markov chains, inspired from Warrington's model. We define multivariate generalizations of the existing models, for which we give stationary mesures and normalization factors with closed-form expressions. We also investigate the case where the maximum height at which the juggler may send balls tends to infinity. We then reformulate the Markov chain in terms of integer partitions, which allows us to consider the case where the juggler interacts with infinitely many balls. Our proofs are obtained through an enriched Markov chain on set partitions. We also show that one of the models has the ultrafast convergence property : the stationary mesure is reached after a finite number of steps. In the following Chapter, we consider multivariate generalizations of those models : the juggler now juggles with balls of different weights, and when a heavy ball collides with a lighter one, this light ball is bumped to a higher position, where it might collide with a lighter one, until a ball reaches the highest position. We give closed-form expressions for the stationary mesures and the normalization factors. The last Chapter is dedicated to the stochastic sandpile model, for which we give a proof for a conjecture set by Selig : the stationary mesure does not depend on the law governing sand grains additions

Full textThe few critical studies devoted to the literary genre called "seance" are undoutedly the principal "raison d'etre" of this analytical study on hamadani"s "seances" which have not received yet the attention they deserve. Among the most inspired writers of his times, hamadani is interested in aesthe tics and the use of diverse tehniques related to style and language, in juggleries with tones and verbs, an art which hamadani masters with virtuosity. In spite of its extreme variety, the literary genre called "seance" has a preoccupation of its own embodied in the beauty of its style and the nature of its subjects matters. Parallelisme is one particular form of the "seances". The objective of the study is to look al its origines, its major techniques and features in our writer's works

South Sudan became the newest country in the world in January 2011, after 22 years of civil war between the Khartoum-based government of Sudan and the Sudanese People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) of the south—the longest of all armed conflicts on the African continent. There is a stark contrast between the rhetoric of post-war unity and peace and the realities of heightened tensions on the ground; the United Nations has warned that escalating inter-ethnic violence threatens to destabilize the country and many regions in South Sudan have “plummeted into self-perpetuating cycles of violence, cattleraiding, banditry and loss of human life. Jonglei state has seen some of the most extreme violence in South Sudan; the Lou Nuer, Murle, and Dinka in Jonglei raid and retaliate back and forth, killing civilians, abducting women and children, and talking cattle. Abductions of women have historically been a part of cattleraiding, but only recently became used extensively as a tool of war, either as an “attempt to directly recover wives” or purely to retaliate. The conflict in Jonglei is a “complex and murky situation to untangle” without one definitive explanation, and the timing and context of many events have contributed to its continuation. In order to create lasting peace in South Sudan, it is imperative to look critically at the complex layers of the driving factors of the recent inter-ethnic conflict in the region.

Full textAny attempt of categorisation reduces the works. The proof is that a careful reading, forming one's body with the text, allows to reveal the literal invisible and the narrative illegible which result from the counting of poetics in prose. This work proposes to question, through works such as "Against the grain" from Huysmans, "The Horla" from Maupassant, "The Juggler" from Rachilde and "The Dream" from Zola, the up-to-now admitted categories, among which the one of the fantastic, re-invented in the 19th century, which, in the end, only served to point to pieces of writing with ambiguous status, with unspeakable forms. This work offers a method of reading using the prism, the spectroscopy, in other words tools capable of modulation, of suppleness, revealing what is spectral in the texts and leaves therefore room for interpretation. Finally, such way of thinking shows the abusive separation realised between works known as realistic and works placed under the sign of the artificial

Full textOver the course of the nineteenth century the legendary female figures of ancient myth had become emblematic of the female sex. This association grew stronger toward the end of the century and the “feminine imaginary” fed itself on a social discourse that contributed to the construction of femininity in terms of menace and depravity. The mythical figures that lent their faces to representations of the femme fatale became symbols of the degeneration of French society. With all of the vices of the century gathered into her body, this female figure appears to us as eminently revealing as to the understanding of an era. However, the figure of the femme fatale is fundamentally ambivalent, and the mythical figure of Lilith, which can embody love as well as destruction, represents the two opposing aspects of nineteenth century representations of femininity. This study shows that there is a direct relationship between the profound ambivalence that characterizes the myth of Lilith and representations of the femme fatale. To this end, we undertake a comparative analysis of the works of Rachilde and Octave Mirbeau, who rewrite the myth of Lilith in The Juggler and The Torture Garden. Two extremely contrasting representations emerge from the comparison between the two “Liliths”: as Rachilde portrays her upstanding heroine’s desire to transcend her body, Mirbeau constructs his Clara as soft and mired in the body, thirsty for carnal pleasure. By examining the relationships that become apparent between these works, we demonstrate that the duality inherent in the myth of Lilith responds to the instability of a society grappling with multiple anxieties regarding sexual identity. This comparison, therefore, allows us to interrogate the traces of a specific mode of sexuation in the literary voice.
