Full textFour letters are included in this publication that Jose Maria Arguedas addressed to Abelardo Oquendo. They document Arguedas’ interest in choosing persons of great literary talent and solid judgemente as editors for his writings. These letters also reveal his personal interpretation of certain practices of Lima intellectual groups, as well as his committed defense in protecting the authenticity of artistic expressions of the Andean world.
Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo, 2015. http://repositorio.ufes.br/handle/10/3552.

Full textThe principal questions that are high lightened in this study are: How is the discrimination of the Indigenous people in Latin-America represented in the works of Jose María Arguedas and Miguel Angel Asturias? How are these two authors interrelated in terms of the defense of a cultural belonging? And finally, can these be associated to Paulo Coelho’s narrative content and techniques?
This work shows how, as Nelson Gonzalez-Ortega names it, a narrative discourse of resistance (based on the consequences of the cultural merging of the European and Latin-American people) is expressed and transformed into modern literature. It shows how the works of these authors protect and transmit the interests and the cultural origins of the Latin-American Indigenous people. These origins are expressed by language, myths, storytelling techniques and the presentation of an alternative perspective of the world. It also shows, through analysis of their writing, how some of these authors as dual cultural human beings struggled to balance the two cultural elements they are constituted of.
Focus will be on Asturias Hombrez de Maiz, Arguedas Los ríos profundos and Coelhos 11 minutos and El Zahir.

"The novel from up above and the Anthropology from down below. Argueda’s foxes as experimental etnography." Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2012. http://repositorio.pucp.edu.pe/index/handle/123456789/79995.
Full textThis article elaborates a reading of The Fox from up above and the Fox from down below by Jose Maria Arguedas, from an anthropological perspective, making it dialogue with the genre of experimental ethnography, framed within the positivist paradigm crisis in social sciences. This book aims to describe a complex intercultural context, developing a textual formula with higher powers than the indigenous novel approach or traditional ethnographic realism. While Arguedas has no scientific pretensions, his novel opens and reflects aspects of reality using resources such as collage, myth as historical background and polyphonic perspective through the discourse of social actors within the play. This makes evidence of his training as an ethnologist who is at once literary, enrolling in the phenomenon of blurred genders and the re-figuration of social thought (Geertz 1980). It starts from the novel in its entirety and the accompanying diaries, highlighting certain passages and nourishes of theoretical perspectives relating to ethnography, demonstrating the complexity of the arguedian style, such as theoretical and epistemological questions of anthropology in the second half of the twentieth century.

Dammert, Juan Luis. "Supe: Arguedas’s unfinished novel." Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú, 2012. http://repositorio.pucp.edu.pe/index/handle/123456789/79433.
Full textIt had several names, «Harina Mundo», «Mar de Harina», «Jonás», «El pez grande», and was a literary project that José María Arguedas started after the publication of Todas las Sangres (1964). The novel was intended to tell the story of ‘the transformations of Puerto Supe’, a fishing town he knew well, for he spent there the summer of 1943 and 1963. As we know, Arguedas later transformed this project into his last novel called El zorro de Arriba y el zorro de Abajo, which took place in the port of Chimbote. Two chapters of the unfinished novel about Supe were published while Arguedas was still alive: «Mar de Harina» and «El Pelón». In this article I present information about those chapters and the characters they portray, given that they were taken from real life. For this purpose, I draw on oral sources, such as my personal memories and the conversations I held in 2004 with the current inhabitants of Supe, about the characters of this unfinished project.
