Approximately twenty-one years of historical mosquito abundance and species surveillance data, collected by the University of Notre Dame and the St. Joseph County (IN) Health Department, from 1976 to 1997 are made available following a data rescue effort. St. Joseph County is a county in Indiana, located on the Michigan-Indiana border, 35 miles from Lake Michigan.The collected data will allow for trends in species to be followed over a wide time range and facilitate further research regarding mosquito-borne diseases, species distribution, phenology and ecological changes over time.

A mesophilic, irregular coccoid methanogen, which shows close resemblance to Methanococcus sp., was isolated from a sediment sample of St. Joseph Lake located in the University of Notre Dame campus. Formate or hydrogen plus carbon dioxide served as substrate for methanogenesis in a mineral salt medium. This organism was studied for its ability to metabolize 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT). The purpose of the article is to analyse the romanticised artistic image of Esmeralda in the works of nineteenth-century artists – one of the key characters of Victor Hugo’s novel Notre Dame de Paris (1831) as a typical example of French literature of the Romantic period.
