Abstract:
After the tragic premature death of George Huntington Williams in 1894, the attempt by four young American petrographers to collaborate on construction of a quantitative classification of igneous rocks fell apart. The three survivors of the original quartet, C. Whitman Cross, Joseph P. Iddings, and Louis V. Pirsson, kept up their close friendship but produced their important petrological papers, including some contributions relating to classification, independently. In time, Henry Stephens Washington befriended the three.Discussions about igneous rock classification at the VII International Ge

AbstractThere seem to be two distinct aspects to the role played by the Interpretant in Peirce’s account of the sign relation. On the one hand, the Interpretant is said to establish the relation between the Sign and Object. That is, the Sign can “stand for” its Object, and thereby actually function as a Sign, only by virtue of its being interpreted as such by an Interpretant. On the other hand, the Interpretant is said to be “determined” by the Sign in such a way that it is thereby mediately determined by the Sign’s Object. How can we understand the relation between these two aspects of the In

L-valine L-valinium perchlorate monohydrate single crystal has been synthesized by slow evaporation technique at room temperature. The crystal structure and space group of the crystal were confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffractometer. Optical behavior of the crystal was analyzed by using UV-visible spectrophotometer. Thermal stability was discussed by using thermo gravimetric analysis. Mechanical strength of the grown crystal was studied using Vickers microhardness tester. Nonlinear optical property was explored to confirm the second harmonic generation efficiency of the grown crystal. The
