Full textStudy has focused on motivational strategies and, specially on one of them, the self-serving attributional strategy. It can be defined as the subject tendency to take credit for success ( self-recovery ) and to reject personal responsibilities in case of failure ( self-protection ). Conducted in a natural sportive situation with tennis as support activity, the first experiments consisted in verifying the existence of self-serving bias in various tennis situations: simples, full tennis season and doubles. The proposed hypothesis have been globally verified. In simple, tennis players take credit for the success with internal, stable, controllable attributions. On the opposite, in case of failure, they reject their responsability on external, unstable and uncontrollable attributions. This bias is also present but a somewhat different manner at the end of a full tennis season, success being attributed to hability and failure to a lack of effort. This bias is also present in double. However, it is of a lesser magnitude, the presence of a partner reducing personal responsability for the results. This first series of results could be explained by " motivational theory ", witch is the desire to increase self-esteem in case of success and to protect it in case of failure. The following experiments have been more precisely focused on the study of relations between, on the one hand, self-esteem and, on the other hand, their self-concepts, their attributional styles and their self-confidence. The results have shown that self-esteem level, high or low, was correlated with all of these variables, witch gives a major role to the level of self-esteem in understanding of behaviour in tennis competition

Full textThe subject of this research is the dynamics of the young tennis player’s activity in return of service during entrainments and matches. These young tennis players aged 10-12 years old, are coaching by Tennis Brittany League. This research was conducted in collaboration with tennis coach in Brittany and three young players, during sport season. Fifteen interviews were analysed within the theoretical and methodological framework of « course of action ». To kinds of data were collected : (a) observing and recording data of entrainment and matches situations ; (b) young tennis player’s autoconfrontation data. The results present the course of action local dynamics. They describe the player concerns when returning services. Next, they highlight the knowledge mobilization/construction during different situation. They present young tennis players’ referential models, and a description of the knowledge mobilization/construction by actors in situation. The discussion makes a contribution to cognitive ergonomic of the sport actor activity. It studies the contributions, on the one hand, of the analysis of course of action’s young tennis player and knowledge about entrainment, competition and compare between entrainment/matches, on the other hand, the contributions of the study about course of action. Lastly, it suggests directions in the field of ways young sport training

Full textThis doctoral dissertation has tried to specified the parents' fluence on child and its positive and negative effects on the athlete's development performance. Five studies were carried out. Faced with the lack of standardized measures of the parent / athlete relationship, a procedure of translation and validation of the EMBU has been conducted. This instrument was interesting four our study because of its three scales : supportive, rejecting and overprotective (felt by the child from his/her father and his/her mother). These dimensions influence the child development. The procedure presented chapter one have ended up in a valid french version according to exploratory and confirmatory factorial analyses. The second study based on quantitative data showed the impact of parental bahaviours (supportive, rejecting and overprotective) on ahtletes' anxiety and self-esteem. Qualitative interviews with twenty coaches have been conducted to investigate parents' behaviours and its consequences. Study 3 offered a description of positive and negative behaviours and roles of parents in tennis. Study 4 showed comportemental and emotional consequences of these roles for tennis players. The last study was designated to get a better understanding of twenty tennismen's unsuccessful careers by means of interviews with players and their parents and coach. Four athletes' cases studies are presented in study 5 to analyse further the themes stemming from the first part

Full textNowadays, most of tennis footwear manufacturers propose children tennis shoes that are scaled-down from adult shoes. However, children are not adult-miniature and have specific needs. Between 8 and 12 years old, children experience growth spurts that decrease the lower limb flexibility and increase the tensile forces on tendons insertion sites onto bones. In addition, the practice of tennis in high-intensity, with the repetition of accelerations and decelerations, places high tensile forces at the Achilles tendon insertion site onto the calcaneus and large compressive forces under the calcaneus. The combination of these 2 factors increase the risk to experience one of the main overuse injuries in children: Sever’s disease. Therefore, the aim of this thesis work was to define the features of a suitable footwear for children tennis players in terms of fitting comfort and limitation of injuries. Firstly, a sock equipped with textile pressure sensors was designed and its measurement reliability was validated. Then, this innovative device was used to correlate pressure measurement and comfort perception on 8 foot locations, allowing to determine the optimal inner-shoe volume for children tennis players. Secondly, the acute effects of shoe drop on the biomechanics of children tennis players were examined and it was shown that reducing from 12 mm to 6 mm allowed to reduce ground reaction forces and thus potentially impact-related injuries. Finally, the long-term influence of shoe drop reduction on the biomechanics and heel pain reported by children tennis players was investigated. The gradual reduction in shoe drop induced a switch from a rear- to forefoot strike pattern in half of the participants and allowed to remove heel pain for them. Future studies are needed to examine the lower-limb structural adaptations linked to the use of partial minimalist shoes

Full textThis doctoral work is based on the hierarchical social organization of tennis players. The ai mis to observe the effects of this hierarchical structure, on the social representations that groups of players have about tennis. The positionning of an individual, or a groupe within a social structure, has an impact on the way it is perceived and how he perceided himself. This perception results from a process of social comparison. This positionning also has an impact on the identification of individuals. Three studies are conducted. The first is interested in the perception of the organization of the social matrix of tennis by the players. It highlights the existence of different groups of practices : from leisure tennis player, to the professional tennis players and their positioning within the matrix. It also explore the identification to the group, according to the positioning within the matrix, and measures the representation that those groupes of players, have of tennis. The second stydu open the social matrix, by questioning a group composed of athletes whose discipline is not tennis. The goal is to question certain results observed during the first study, and more particulary to evaluate the impact of the level variable. The third and final study uses two confirmatory methods. It focused on the representation of tennis among the target groupes (High Level, Competition, Leisure). It aims to highlight the effects of identification with the group on the content but also on the structure of the social representation. In conclusion, we consider the implications of our results in the framework of the theory of social representations. We emphasize the interest of defining the structure of the social matrix (hierarchical) and the positioning of the groups to apprehend social representation

Full textPrevious studies have highlighted that parents have an important role during the two first steps of the young athletes’ development to the high level (sampling years, specializing years). Their involvement (logistic, informational, emotional, directivity, pressure and autonomy) seems to permit to cope with constraints of resources, motivation and effort suggested by the sportive activity’s deliberate practice. Their support also influences young athletes’ psychological, motivational, affective and behavioral characteristics. But, works in the field of family involvement in sport have mainly been conducted in American, Canadian and English countries, suggesting a lack of measurement tools in France and cultural differences about results. Parents are probably not considered as much in France than in other countries and their involvement is perhaps not perceived as essential. Moreover, relations between performance determinants (motivation, pleasure, effort and commitment) have not been analyzed, and yet less compared according to adolescent’s sex, his level of practice and parents’ sex. So, eight studies soliciting adolescent tennis players and their parents have been put in place in order to answer to these several limits, including qualitative and quantitative approaches. Questionnaires of parental involvement have been constructed and validated. Main conclusions have first highlighted the importance of parents in the tennis player’s social environment. Then, parents have perceived themselves as much implicated in their child’s activity that the level of practice increases, elaborating a familial sportive project. Next, types and degrees of parental support have specific links between them (emotional / autonomy and directivity / pressure / informational). Finally, causal sequences exist. Overall, logistic support influences the perception of the motivational climate which has an effect on motivation, source of affective and behavioral outcomes. These causal sequences vary not only according to the level of determination (links’ strength and totality of mediations) but according to the adolescents’ developmental stage, parental sex and to relational dyads too
