Abstract:
Abstract The aim of this paper is to examine how nurses in family clinics use language, and clients’ perceived English proficiency in particular, when categorizing their non-Finnish-speaking clients in their talk. Through membership categorization analysis (Schegloff, Emanuel A. 2007. A tutorial on membership categorization. Journal of Pragmatics 39(3). 462–482), this study shows that perceived proficiency in English, along with migration status and reliance on the native English speaker norm, seemed to be the most decisive elements in how the nurses categorized their migrant clients. The findings demonstrate the power of categorization as an instrument in institutional decision-making and highlight the role language plays in these categorizations. In particular, the study shows how influential perceived English language proficiency and the native speaker norm are in how nurses categorize their migrant clients. The findings suggest that being able to interact with clients in English is becoming a more and more important skill in working life in Finland, also in the health care sector. It would be important to understand how influential perceived language proficiency is in the way nurses conceptualize their clients, and to what extent this relates to the standard language ideology (Milroy, James. 2001. Language ideologies and the consequences of standardization. Journal of Sociolinguistics 5. 530–555).

Abstract:
An examination of articles published in leading adult education journals demonstrates that qualitative research dominates. To better understand this situation, a review of journal articles reporting on quantitative research has been undertaken by the author of this article. Differences in methodological strengths and weaknesses between quantitative and qualitative research are discussed, followed by a data mining exercise on 1,089 journal articles published in Adult Education Quarterly, Studies in Continuing Education, and International Journal of Lifelong Learning. A categorization of quantitative adult education research is presented, as well as a critical discussion on why quantitative adult education does not seem to be widespread in the key adult education journals.

In this paper, a journal resource integration system under digital sharing was designed to assess the symmetry of the journal resource matrix using the shared resource matrix analysis method, so that the journal resources can transmit information covertly among the subjects. Subsequently, the collected journal resource data were processed to improve the accuracy of information categorization and integration to form a perfect resource management system. The nature of journal resources was deeply understood by calculating the characteristic observable vectors of journal resources. Finally, with the help of ant colony particle optimization algorithm, the sharing sequence and time of journal resources were calculated, and the metadata format of all journals was unified and standardized to complete the design of journal resource integration system. The results show that the whole average integration efficiency of journal resources is 92.8%. Compared with the traditional integration system, the integration efficiency is improved by 28.3%, which fully confirms the significant performance improvement of the designed digital system in the integration of shared journal resources.

ABSTRACT This paper analyzes and categorizes published research papers in three specialist accounting history journals—Accounting History, The Accounting Historians Journal, and Accounting History Review. A key objective is to highlight under-represented areas for future research. We inductively derive a categorization system, and classify over four hundred papers from 2006–2015 according to twelve categories. The results show some rather under-researched areas, namely religion and accounting education. Using statistical analysis techniques, we note similarities and differences across the three journals and suggest avenues for future researchers.

Abstract:
In order to re-categorize the SCImago Journal & Country Rank (SJR) journals based on Scopus, as well as improve the SJR subject classification scheme, an iterative process built upon reference analysis of citing journals was designed. The first step entailed construction of a matrix containing citing journals and cited categories obtained through the aggregation of cited journals. Assuming that the most representative categories in each journal would be represented by the highest citation values regarding categories, the matrix vectors were reduced using a threshold to discern and discard the weakest relations. The process was refined on the basis of different parameters of a heuristic nature, including 1) the development of several tests applying different thresholds, 2) the designation of a cutoff, 3) the number of iterations to execute, and 4) a manual review operation of a certain amount of multi-categorized journals. Despite certain shortcomings related with journal classification, the method showed a solid performance in grouping journals at a level higher than categories —that is, aggregating journals into subject areas. It also enabled us to redesign the SJR classification scheme, providing for a more cohesive one that covers a good proportion of re-categorized journals.

Full text
Abstract:
According to recent cognitive science, our perceptive senses help develop human cognition, and the process of organizing our inner representations of the world around us. As a result, conceptual metaphors are deemed to be essential to our understanding of abstract entities; how we perceive an organization depends for instance on what metaphor is used to describe it. Thus, conceptual metaphor theory has been given a lot of attention in the past thirty years. The Metasaga philosophy was established on the Shetland Islands in 2008. The idea is for participants to explore the environment and create reflective questions involving metaphors which can be used for reflective purposes in connection to work, school, businesses or other organizations. In this paper, linguistic metaphors involving organizations in 228 reflective questions were studied. The linguistic metaphors were sorted according to which organization conceptual metaphor they appeared to belong to. A broad category called Organization Is Physical Structure was set up, and the name was taken from Joseph Grady’s list of primary metaphors in Lakoff and Johnson (1999 pp. 50-55) Four sub-categories of organization metaphors were subsequently established: Organization Is An Artificial Structure, Organizational Help Is Support, Organization Is A Plant and Organization Is A Living Creature. Almost 55 % of the reflective questions involving organization shared the common theme of a description of an organization as some kind of artificial structure. Thus, it seems likely that we often think of organizational arrangement as some kind of concrete structure and also that we use different metaphors depending on how the organization is structured.

碩士
國立中央大學
資訊管理研究所
95
Journal papers provide professional domain knowledge. Nevertheless, emerging of information overloading causes considerable cost of time. Application of text categorization technology could help users to retrieve domain journal papers efficiently. Four phases of text categorization process are “text pre-processing”, “document feature construction”, “applying classification methods” and “evaluation”. This research probes for the effectiveness of: feature weighting, fields of articles and classifiers during the process of journal papers categorization, and also applied sampling distribution classifier within the process. The hypothesis test analysis shows that: 1st, feature ratio performs well significantly than feature frequency. 2nd, fields of abstract are more effective than titles and keywords of journal papers, and there are no difference between the latter two. 3rd, Support vector machines are most effective, then naïve-bayes, decision trees and sampling distribution classifier in order. And 4th, text categorization of journal papers is feasible. Additionally, analysis and recommendation of sampling distribution classifier are also proposed for the future study.

Full text
Abstract:
This article presents the methodology for the construction of a didactic-encyclopedic dictionary centered on the sociological terminology of Max Weber, with application in the teaching of Sociology and Social Sciences. The approach adopted is heuristic-propaedeutic, aiming at the structured organization of concepts to facilitate the understanding, acquisition and use of the core terms of Weberian theory. The methodology developed comprises three stages: (i) selection and categorization of the conceptual corpus; (ii) structuring of concepts into "primary" and "secondary" entries, with hypertextual interconnections; and (iii) didactic-lexicographic systematization. The model favors the assimilation of Weberian thought by providing textual navigation in a progressive and non-linear way between concepts. The dictionary provides a free navigation through Weberian terminology, stimulating learning paths according to the interests of the reader, expanding understanding and theoretical acquisition. Made available on a digital platform, with a potential printed version, the material is configured as an innovative instrument for teaching and scientific dissemination, applicable to other lexicographic experiences in the field of Social Sciences. [1] This article had a previous version, with a few changes, published in a journal by Aracê in 2025, under the title “Max Weber's Lexicon for Teaching Sociology and Social Sciences: Methodological Innovation in the Construction of a Didactic-Encyclopedic Dictionary”.

Abstract:
Chapter 9 examines how unconventional written work is currently pushing the limits of our understanding of genre. Women from elsewhere are drawing from personal experience in order to disturb tired distinctions between “text” and “life” in imaginative fashions that reconfigure the reading experience. Their creative work is contributing to liberating these authors from overworked modes of expression and worn expectations, and allows them to break free from rigid definitions. It is significant that a number of worldwide women writers are now opting to compose works in a variety of creative forms ranging from the bande dessinée to the journal to the photo essay to récits of all sorts, expanding our conceptions of generic classification by playing with everything from titles to formats within the written work. This inventiveness includes a great deal of attention to visual arts and music, occasionally through the integration of works of art and musical notations in the text itself, and other times through allusions to artistic and musical pieces, or even through the construction of passages that liken literature to these other art forms. Authors are more and more impressively contributing to their own publishing profiles by writing “autobiographically” in variations that elude any clear categorization, but that reveal intimate details in texts that embody movement, progression, and development in exciting new terms.

This study investigates the impact of teaching practices based on the values of love and fraternity to promote an inclusive and peaceful school environment, using the metaphor of the educational garden. The teacher is seen as a gardener who cultivates fertile soil (ecosystemic thinking), where the main plants are love and fraternity. The research used a qualitative approach based on the content analysis of questionnaires applied online to 729 students from more than 40 courses at the Catholic University of Brasília, ensuring diversity and accessibility in data collection. For data analysis, the content analysis technique (BARDIN, 2011) was used, which allows the systematic categorization of responses and the identification of emerging patterns. The data were organized into four main categories: (1) Dialogue and Active Listening, (2) Empathy and Acceptance, (3) Respect and Inclusion, and (4) Encouragement of Critical Thinking. The results indicated that humanizing and inclusive pedagogical practices are widely valued by students and have a positive impact on their school experiences. The study proposes innovative guidelines for public policies, differentiating itself from previous research by establishing a structured model for implementing these values in educational practice. The study makes an unprecedented contribution by demonstrating how the inclusion of humanizing values in the formulation of public policies can transform the school environment, promoting more effective teaching and learning practices.

One approach of retrieving biological analogies is to perform keyword searches on natural-language sources such as books, journals, etc. A challenge of retrieving information from natural-language sources is the potential requirement to process a large number of search results. This paper describes a categorization method that organizes a large group of diverse biological information into meaningful categories. The benefits of the categorization functionality are demonstrated through a case study on the redesign of a fuel cell bipolar plate. In this case study, our categorization method reduced the effort to systematically identify biological phenomena by up to ∼80%.
