Abstract:
Purpose To update the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)/College of American Pathologists (CAP) guideline recommendations for human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) testing in breast cancer to improve the accuracy of HER2 testing and its utility as a predictive marker in invasive breast cancer. Methods ASCO/CAP convened an Update Committee that included coauthors of the 2007 guideline to conduct a systematic literature review and update recommendations for optimal HER2 testing. Results The Update Committee identified criteria and areas requiring clarification to improve the accuracy of HER2 testing by immunohistochemistry (IHC) or in situ hybridization (ISH). The guideline was reviewed and approved by both organizations. Recommendations The Update Committee recommends that HER2 status (HER2 negative or positive) be determined in all patients with invasive (early stage or recurrence) breast cancer on the basis of one or more HER2 test results (negative, equivocal, or positive). Testing criteria define HER2-positive status when (on observing within an area of tumor that amounts to > 10% of contiguous and homogeneous tumor cells) there is evidence of protein overexpression (IHC) or gene amplification (HER2 copy number or HER2/CEP17 ratio by ISH based on counting at least 20 cells within the area). If results are equivocal (revised criteria), reflex testing should be performed using an alternative assay (IHC or ISH). Repeat testing should be considered if results seem discordant with other histopathologic findings. Laboratories should demonstrate high concordance with a validated HER2 test on a sufficiently large and representative set of specimens. Testing must be performed in a laboratory accredited by CAP or another accrediting entity. The Update Committee urges providers and health systems to cooperate to ensure the highest quality testing. This guideline was developed through a collaboration between the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the College of American Pathologists and has been published jointly by invitation and consent in both Journal of Clinical Oncology and the Archives of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine. Abstract:
The function of histamine in living organisms has interested investigators since its discovery shortly after the turn of the century and consequently has lead to the documentation of volumes of published data. It is rather surprising that the overall understanding of the function of histamine is still scant compared with other mediator substances discovered approximately during the same period of time. Perhaps the ubiquitous presence and the many effects of histamine in the body have diluted the efforts of investigators and have prevented a clear definition of all of its function. Both the local actions of histamine as a paracrine transmitter causing indirect responses as well as the multireceptor actions have no doubt also hampered the progress. It has been repeatedly stated that the development of the H2-receptor antagonists was one of the major accomplishments in the histamine field, which has lead to a new wave of increased histamine research activity and provided new meaning to earlier, unexplained data.In a series of symposia initiated by the Canadian Histamine Research Association, an attempt is being made to integrate previous findings with recent advances, and to familiarize those who are interested in histamine with the Canadian investigators and their research areas. The first symposium was held June 14, 1983, in conjunction with the Canadian Federation of Biological Societies and was published in this journal, June, 1984. The present symposium, the second in the series, deals with some aspects of earlier data in light of present knowledge and future prospects, as well as recent observations on receptor action and localization, and the mechanisms of action of drugs involved in the inhibition of histamine release. Because the local action of histamine has posed particular problems for the assessment of histamine concentration in relation to its action, it has become evident that not only histamine concentrations alone but also its metabolites would be of importance to demonstrate a correlation between endogenous histamine and its function. Thus, various assay procedures and methods are reviewed for the measurement of histamine metabolites to illustrate present capabilities in this field. The support for the symposium came from the Canadian Physiological Society, Smith Kline and French Canada Ltd., and Beckman Instruments Inc.

Abstract:
Abstract Diabetes is a highly prevalent disease in the world and it is involved in several chronic complications, such retinopathy, nephropathy, neuropathy, cardiovascular disease and the diabetic foot. Up to 28% of diabetic foot ulcers result in some form of amputation that lead to reduced productive activity and quality of life, as well as increased social costs. Advance in the understanding of the healing process changes in diabetic individuals is fundamental to improve diabetic foot care. Extracellular vesicles are intercellular communication agents that influence physiological and pathological processes. The objective of this research was to examine the influence of extracellular vesicles collected of diabetic individuals on cell proliferation, viability and migration in wounds. The procedures included in vitro assay of migration, senescence, cellular viability and oxide nitric production. Extracellular vesicles have been shown to stimulate the cell migration process and this function was not poorly influenced by metabolic control. References: 1. International Diabetes Federation. Abstract:
Although marriage is a social institution but marital status and age at marriage are important demographic determinants as these aspects influence the pattern of fertility and natural growth of population. Studying the various aspects of marital status of any population group especially the figures related to women can give an exposition about the probability of fertility rate as well as social manifestation prevailing in the society. It also helps to understand the preferred specific age at marriage for women. However, little is known about the marital status of women living in Assam cutting across religions—Hindu, Muslim and Christian. In this backdrop, an attempt has been made through this research to examine the changing trend of marital status among the Hindu, Muslim and Christian women of Assam. The research is based on secondary data and Census information and considers the entire state of Assam. Census data of 2001 and 2011 shows interesting and striking information about the changing situation of marital status among the Hindus, Muslims and Christians of the state. It is arguable that the study linked to female marital status is saliently more influencing in this context as it determines the socio-economic status of women and pattern of fertility in any society. Among the different religions of Assam, Hindu women have the highest married proportion followed by Christian while Muslim is the lowest in the same category. Depending on the socio-cultural practices, economic conditions and the level of educational attainment, the age at marriage varies among the religious groups. The proportion of woman being married at a younger age has been less, is an indication of advancement in the educational scenario.

Abstract:
In the 1950s and 1960s the increased specialization of science led to the formation of discipline-based scientific societies. Some of these, among them the Astronomical Society of Australia, began their own refereed journals. The Publications of the Astronomical Society of Australia, which has now been continuously published by the Society for over 50 years, has undergone many changes in that time in response to the changes in the publication landscape. The method of production has advanced from manual to computer typesetting and from printed volumes to purely electronic publishing. The content of the journal has changed from short conference papers to formal research papers that now, under the impact of citation indices, face strict refereeing and are mixed with major invited review papers. Dedicated editors have maintained the journal despite a preference from many members to publish in better known overseas journals as well as strong opposition from within the society to the costs involved in maintaining a research journal.

Full text
Abstract:
“Research, no matter how ‘good’, is incomplete, until it has been published.”1 The Philippine Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery has been promoting research among Residents and Fellows through various fora (including research contests), even creating a research fund (albeit, with no takers). It has also supported the Philippine Journal of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery as its official scientific publication and primary forum for publishing research. This year, our Board of Trustees has finally taken concrete steps to merge our research and publication initiatives in order to streamline both processes. In effect, all papers submitted to the various research contests of the society will be reviewed and revised prior to oral presentation, through the editorial management system of our journal. In this manner, both the contests and the journal benefit, as pre-final papers chosen for oral presentation would have already been reviewed and revised for publication. Indeed, “publishing” means to make something public.2 If the ratio of research presentations to publications is taken, it is fair to conclude that we may not lack in research, but we certainly lag in publication. Why publish? “Similar to others who write (historians and poets), scientists and those involved in research need to write … to leave behind a documented legacy of their accomplishments.”1 Whatever we discover or unearth in the laboratory, clinic or in the field; whether from samples, specimens, subjects, patients or participants; utilizing theoretical or applied instruments, materials and methods; simply “did not happen” unless it is documented and disseminated. In Filipino,“kung hindi nakasulat, hindi nangyari.” How often do we hear side-comments like “naisip ko na iyan,” or “na-presenta ko na iyan” or even “sinulat ko na iyan” at a scientific meeting where a speaker presents a study. The sad fact of the matter is many of these colleagues may indeed have had similar thoughts, or delivered previous oral presentations, or even written reports. But because not of these had been properly published, they remain inaccessible to subsequent scholars, and are therefore neither cited nor acknowledged. “While ‘doing’ the research is important, ‘writing’ about why and how it was done, what was found, and what it means is far more important as it serves as a permanent record of scientific work that has been completed and accepted by peers.”1 And writing and publishing are an entirely different ball game from researching alone. Publication, or “making ideas public,” allows “scholars (to) provide each other with the opportunity to build on each other’s contributions, create dialogue (sometimes heated) with one another and join the documented and ongoing history of their field.”2 It is by participating in this “documented and ongoing history” of our field that we and our specialty society gain international recognition and become internationally competitive. Taking your place in the history of scholarship starts where you are, as an author. Publication involves communication between the author and his or her audience via the written article.3 Unlike public speakers or performing artists, the author’s interaction with the audience is limited by the written and published work. Hence, “a successful researcher is usually a good communicator who has the ability to maximize the transmission of research findings to his or her chosen audience.”1 Our journal editors “go the extra mile” to maximize manuscripts for communication. Unlike most journals, we do not reject poorly-written submissions outright and often help rewrite them extensively. Aside from form- and content- editing, we even assist in revisions following the review process. Unfortunately, few authors seem to appreciate or understand this—and ironically, those who do are mostly overseas authors. Perhaps our local colleagues do not fully realize the career, professional, institutional and practical advantages that can be gained from writing and publication.4 Career benefits of publication “may have the most direct bearing on … appointment, promotion, tenure and advancement within your institution, organization and discipline.”2 This is especially true for those of us in academe, but it certainly should also be true as far as our specialty training and accreditation programs are concerned. For instance, publications of specialty board examiners and accreditors are integral to their appointment and retention in learned societies here and abroad. Professional benefits include “applying for positions in foreign institutions, and when applying for competitive overseas fellowships”1 I have received numerous urgent requests from residents and young diplomates (unaware of the editing and peer review process) to publish research they undertook in training so they can fulfill publication requirements for overseas positions or fellowships. For more senior consultants, “gaining recognition as experts … at regional and international levels leads to invitations to lecture at scientific meetings … appointments as consultants to external agencies … and advisory boards.”1 Closer to home, publication “increases depth of knowledge in a particular subject that complements and hones clinical skills, and enables better teaching of students, clinical trainees and postgraduates.”1 Concerning institutional benefits, “publication in peer-reviewed journals is arguably the most important means to achieve international recognition for an individual, department, hospital, and university.”1 Moreover, “the author’s country, and even the region, may also derive benefit from published work, particularly if it is on a topic of major importance.”1 At least in the medical field, Filipino publications have made their mark, although sparsely. Finally, the practical benefits gained from engaging in the research and publication process cannot be overlooked. The “inherent training gained during the process of manuscript preparation,” the “discipline of performing a thorough literature search, collating and analyzing data and drafting and repeatedly revising the manuscript”1 during the editing and review process, provide undeniable practical benefits to the author. Researchers who have published are much better positioned to evaluate scholarly publications, having themselves experienced the writing, editing and review process. In this era of “information overload” the published researcher can more effectively evaluate and utilize available evidence. This translates to elevating the scientific and scholarly milieu in our specialty society and training institutions. Indeed, we are entering a new era for both the PSOHNS and PJOHNS. Hopefully, the streamlined submission and review process will facilitate presentation and publication, in quantity and quality for many years to come.

Abstract:
This paper offers a picture of the life of young women in rural India, specifically in the state of Assam. It is drawn from a doctoral work that is in progress. India is one of the fastest growing economies in the world, yet nearly 69% of its population live in rural areas (Census of India, 2011). Numerous castes, creeds and religions co-exist in society with differing practices and opinions. Although conflicts of interest and incidents of violence occur from time to time, the ‘multi-cultural, multi-lingual, multi-dimensional’ Indian society still manages to hold itself together against all odds. Assam is a state with a predominantly rural makeup. The doctoral work drawn from for the purposes of this paper was conducted using a sample of 60 adolescent girls in school settings in Assam. The macro-philosophy of the research was to understand the impact of cash transfer in the form of scholarships on their overall wellbeing. The demographic profile of the state introduces the reader to the construct of the Assamese society. The three life sketches of young women narrated exemplify their dreams for a good life amidst challenges, both substantial and emotional. They show immense potential for a fulfilled life. There is need for support and guidance at different levels to enhance their capabilities. Importance of affective scaffolding at a personal level and affirmative action at governmental level is essential.

Abstract:
Postcolonial India is a complex and paradoxical mix of sociocultural practices and modernity. This tension is especially apparent and holds particular significance, with respect to women’s changing roles. Driving this research is a concern to probe the position of women, pursuing higher education, as daughters/daughter(s)-in-law and wife within the family. The article focuses on the specific case of Assam, located in the northeastern region of India and, within it, a sub-population of young, middle-class Assamese women. The research considers the notions of Pierre Bourdieu’s ‘symbolic violence’ and ‘misrecognition’ as well as feminist literature to examine how unequal gender relations in Assamese society are reproduced and sustained. It draws upon in-depth interviews conducted with a sample of students pursuing higher education in five different educational institutions of Assam. The narrative analysis reveals the conflicting but often-contradictory process of women’s changing roles, particularly of those women who are married and play simultaneously the roles of daughter(s)-in-law and wives. The findings demonstrate that the subtle process of socialisation (and cultural values) that stem from patriarchal power relations are so deeply entrenched within the Assamese society that these highly educated middle-class women continue to be subjected to symbolic power maintained by misrecognition.

Abstract:
The United Nations General Assembly has delegated 25 November as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (VAW). This issue of the journal Space and Culture, India is dedicated to raise further awareness against VAW, inequalities and discrimination. Now I turn to discuss the abstract of this editorial. Greater access to public spaces, entry into the professional space and engagement in different sectors of labour forces are the diverse forms of opportunities urbanisation and modernisation is supposed to provide to each individual including women. However, one could argue that both urbanisation and modernisation have begeted gender discrimination. And the degree of discrimination is faced mostly by women putting them in a vulnerable position by generating women-centric workplace violence—mainly sexual harassment of women at workplace (SHWWP). This paper highlights the findings of two research studies: Workplace Safety and Dignity for Women in Assam and Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal of Sexual Harassment at Professional Places in Assam: Post 23rd April 2013 carried out by the author during the period 2017-2019. According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), 2017, the state of Assam contributes 6.4 percentage points of state-share to all-India share of crime against women; its overall crime rate against women when calculated as a crime per one-hundred thousand of the population stands at 143.6. Evidently, the state of Assam also has high occurrences of SHWWP, which stands at 44% but only 2.7% complaint cases were lodged. The findings also uncovered that there exist weak and inadequate complaint mechanisms in the state even after the existence of Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013.

2019: it was a joint decision of the journal’s Editorial Board, to change the language from Greek to English. The Greek language is the language that is appreciated and recognized internationally as the language with an amazing and unique wealth. This change has one purpose and that is, to OPEN “out of borders”, a movement that will provide and secure opportunities of international prospect.Three years ago, in 2015, we decided to publish the HEALTH and RESEARCH JOURNAL, with the aim of publishing all MSc dissertations of postgraduate students. Today we believe that this goal needs to be modified. The journal, besides the Master's Program "Intensive Care Units" (which is the main publisher), collaborates and supports the Master's Program of “Clinical and Experimental Neurosurgery”, the Master's Program of “Hellenic Society for Ergospirometry, Exercise and Rehabilitation” and the “Hellenic Society of Nursing Research and Education” which is the co-publisher. The road has already been opened and in the near future our journal will collaborate with the National Documentation Center, which will give new prospect. We hope that this change will receive the acceptance and consent we expect. Value, reliability and scientific approach depend on the entire scientific community that will decide to participate by publishing their manuscripts. We hope the new year to bring something new to HEALTH and RESEARCH JOURNAL and to make it equal to many remarkable and reputable scientific journals.Happy New Year with peace, health and scientific achievements. The Editorial Board

Abstract:
The purpose of the American Cancer Society/American Society of Clinical Oncology Breast Cancer Survivorship Care Guideline is to provide recommendations to assist primary care and other clinicians in the care of female adult survivors of breast cancer. A systematic review of the literature was conducted using PubMed through April 2015. A multidisciplinary expert workgroup with expertise in primary care, gynecology, surgical oncology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, and nursing was formed and tasked with drafting the Breast Cancer Survivorship Care Guideline. A total of 1,073 articles met inclusion criteria; and, after full text review, 237 were included as the evidence base. Patients should undergo regular surveillance for breast cancer recurrence, including evaluation with a cancer-related history and physical examination, and should be screened for new primary breast cancer. Data do not support performing routine laboratory tests or imaging tests in asymptomatic patients to evaluate for breast cancer recurrence. Primary care clinicians should counsel patients about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, monitor for post-treatment symptoms that can adversely affect quality of life, and monitor for adherence to endocrine therapy. Recommendations provided in this guideline are based on current evidence in the literature and expert consensus opinion. Most of the evidence is not sufficient to warrant a strong evidence-based recommendation. Recommendations on surveillance for breast cancer recurrence, screening for second primary cancers, assessment and management of physical and psychosocial long-term and late effects of breast cancer and its treatment, health promotion, and care coordination/practice implications are made. This guideline was developed through a collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the American Society of Clinical Oncology and has been published jointly by invitation and consent in both CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians and Journal of Clinical Oncology. Abstract:
In this introduction to the special issue on gender and macromarketing, we explore how gender research within the journal has remained “hidden in plain sight”; and, offer concrete proposals to build visibility for critical gender perspectives which explore markets, marketing and society. This introduction is divided into four sections. First, we examine existing research in the journal which has focused on gender. Next, we provide a summary of the eight articles published in this special issue. We then examine systemic gender inequalities and injustices currently evidenced within macromarketing. Finally, we proffer suggestions for future gender research directions within the journal, alongside our reflections on addressing the problematic gendered dynamics that persist within the journal and the Macromarketing Society.

Abstract:
In this brief paper, I review my 10 years as the Editor of the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society A . I look at the content of the journal over the years, relating it to a full classification of the physical sciences based on the interests of fellows and research fellows of the Royal Society. I show that the journal has performed well in terms of downloads, citations and impact factors. Innovations such as the Millennium and Christmas Issues for young scientists have stimulated a close and enjoyable interaction with the Society's research fellows. In addition to authoring papers and organizing themes, they have always been keen to help with the refereeing processes. They provided exciting demonstrations for a Summer Science exhibit that I organized to highlight the work of the journal, and five of the research fellows now sit on the Editorial Board. Looking to the future, I describe the new subject clusters that are being introduced as the journal steps up its publication rate from one issue per month to two, starting in January 2008.

Abstract:
Purpose – The aim of the present study is to analyze the literature growth, author productivity, authorship pattern, average length of articles and country collaboration of cancer research in India. The Indian Journal of Cancer, which shows the progress of ontological sciences in India, was established in 1963. Indian Journal of Cancer is the first and only periodical serving the needs of all the specialties of oncology in India. The journal is the official publication of the Indian Cancer Society and Indian Society of Oncology. Design/methodology/approach – Thirty-nine issues of the Indian Journal of Cancer, published between 2003 and 2012, have been considered for the study. The collected data were recorded in an Excel spreadsheet and analyzed to find the degree of collaboration (DC) between authors, collaboration between countries and authorship pattern. Since the journal publishes research articles, review articles, editorials, letters to the editor, symposiums, forewords, case reports and special articles, only the 244 research articles published during 2003-2012 have been taken into consideration in this study. Findings – The study revealed that multi-authored papers were more common and that the average length of articles was 5-6 pages. Twenty-two countries contributed papers to this journal during the study period. Additional research is needed to assess the impact of diverse dietary habits, religious practices and lifestyles on the prevention of cancer. Originality/value – More than 50 per cent of the world’s cancer burden, in terms of both numbers of cases and deaths, occurs in developing countries and is rising. By 2020, it is estimated that 70 per cent of all cancer cases will be in these lower-income countries, and approximately one-fifth of these will be in India, with its (still increasing) population of over a billion. While research is necessary to inform effective programs, it is also time to move beyond research to act by implementing programs in cancer prevention and treatment. Cancer is disturbing the growing economy of the country, which can be saved by proper handling of this disease.

Abstract:
The International Journal of Religion (IJOR) was founded to fill a gap: how and why ‘religion’ impacts on society and politics both within and between countries. It aims to be comprehensive and inter-disciplinary. Its fundamental goal is to investigate, via sound research questions and techniques, relationships that religion has with national and international politics, society, economics, sociology, history and humanity. It aims to be an authoritative academic journal of high quality, publishing research articles without discriminating against any specific religion, region or time period. By inviting scholars, researchers, thinkers and practitioners working on and interested in these issues, IJOR seeks to create an environment conducive to critical and independent debates. Moreover, it aims to create a mutual exchange of knowledge and dialogue between interested parties with different perspectives in order to generate a variety of sometimes contrasting conclusions. The International Journal of Religion (IJOR) is not restricted to a specific subject or field within the wide spectrum that is religion, but it does present a set of fundamental principles. It is committed, as a guiding philosophy, to embody an academic understanding of these issues, always refraining from hateful and discriminatory language.

As MPPA moves into the next decade, the challenges faced by maintaining print media in an increasingly paperless society has led to the journal being published online only from March 2020 onwards. While it is a little sad to farewell the colourful covers and textures of the paper journal, there will be advantages in accessibility and immediacy of publishing with the new online system, and we look forward to the new era. Indeed, modern technology has changed the way we analyse a multitude of variables in research, and we see in this issue several examples of performance analysis using highly sophisticated devices.

I am delighted to announce the birth of the European Journal of Risk Regulation. This new academic journal reflects the growing importance of both national and European regulations intended to protect health, safety, security and the environment – as well as the accompanying institutional challenges for the European Union governance. This large body of law is known as risk regulation. It seeks to reduce the risks of harm to individuals and society, stemming from all threats whether industrial or natural, voluntary or involuntary. Arguably, this portion of EU legislation already represents the most important and widespread part of the internal market acquis and, due to its international success, it contributes to make the EU a de facto global regulator. As such, it provides a new and valuable lens through which to analyse the European integration process.

Abstract:
The Quality Improvement and Research Committee of the Society for Vascular Ultrasound has recognized the Journal for Vascular Ultrasound to promote quality improvement, research and scholarly initiatives of the Society. An understanding of the content and character of its published articles and its status amongst journals on vascular ultrasound will be useful to this mandate. This project aims to identify the scope of Journal for Vascular Ultrasound and its implications for the Society membership. Journal for Vascular Ultrasound Volumes 40 to 42 (2016-2018) were reviewed to identify the number of articles published, the type of scholarly work, and the vascular ultrasound domains represented. The findings were compared with major databases and a targeted list of journals with vascular ultrasound content. In addition, bibliometric parameters specific to Journal for Vascular Ultrasound were identified and compared with other journals. The Journal for Vascular Ultrasound published 71 articles over the 3 years; 100% were vascular ultrasound topics. The most frequent activities were 35 cases, 20 research, and 5 guidelines. The topics were 19 venous, 18 carotid, 7 arterial, 2 aorta, 1 education, and 10 unusual findings, and 4 other studies. In the 312 targeted journals, 4792 articles were published in 2018; 135 were relevant to vascular ultrasound. The maximum vascular ultrasound content in any one journal, other than Journal for Vascular Ultrasound, was 20% (range = 0-20, median = 8%). The impact of Journal for Vascular Ultrasound, by the H-score of 11 and SJR of 0.12, ranks the Journal for Vascular Ultrasound in the lowest 10% of surveyed journals. Of the citable Journal for Vascular Ultrasound articles, only 6% were cited in bibliometric analysis. The Journal for Vascular Ultrasound has the highest percentage of content of vascular ultrasound of targeted journals. Case reports represent the bulk of Journal for Vascular Ultrasound published work. Citations and impact remain low. None of the targeted journals have very much content in vascular ultrasound. These findings suggest a variety of challenges and opportunities for the Society.

Abstract:
Background Acquired hemophilia is a rare condition in which autoantibodies, usually IgG class are produced against factor VIII or IX. Age distribution is bimodal. Although hemophilia is a hereditary disease, approximately 20-30% of patients have no family history of clotting disorders. Case report A 55-year-old lady with major complaints of gums bleeding, bruises on the both of leg and thighs that are varying colour (multiple spontaneus haematomas. No previous history of bleeding and no history of blood clotting disorders in the family. She has diabetes mellitus for 8 years was treated metformin three times a day, and )controlled level of blood glucose. Laboratory findings showed decreased haemoglobin (5,7 mg/dl) with prolonged aPTT 129 s(28 s control) but still got the normal PPT that is 17.2 s (14.4 s control) and normal INR 1,3, factor VIII activity got decrease with result of 1,5% (control 91,1%) but factor IX activity still normal 118,7% (control 108%). The Factor VIII inhibitor was 19.52 Bethesda Unit. After exclusion of other possible pathological condition and on the basis of lab criteria we diagnosed the case as acquired hemophilia A. Discussion The diagnosis of Acqured hemophlia A (AHA) shoud be considered in patient who present with bleeding and prolonged aPPT. The pattern of bleeding in AHA differs from that in congenital hemophilia A. Bleeding tends to occur in soft tissue, muscle, retroperitoneal space, iatrogenic bleeding is also common. The diagnosis is then confirmed by a Bethesda positive assay for F VIII inhibitor titre. Diagnostic test in AHA are clotting factor measurement (isolated low FVIII level) and quantification of the inhibitor titer (presence of inhibitor). Most often the cause is idiopathic in 50% of patient or it can be associated with autoimun disorders, hepatitis and diabetes. Chronic disease or diabetes mellitus makes misrecognition tends to self antigen.1,3 Conclusion A 55-years-old lady with diabetes got symptoms gum bleeding, multiple spontaneuos hematomes and very low in factor VIII activity and presence of factor VIII inhibitor. It is concluded that this patient is diagnosed of acquired hemophilia A. Keywords: Acquired Haemophilia A, activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), Factor VIII. Pasien ini didiagnosis menderita Acquired hemofilia A. Kata kunci: Acquired Haemophilia A, activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), Factor VIII. Abstract:
Interest in the brain's circulation dates back more than a century and has been steadily growing. Quantitative methods for measurements of cerebral blood flow (CBF) and energy metabolism became available in the middle of the 20th century and gave a new boost to the research. Scientific meetings dealing with CBF and metabolism were arranged, and the fast growing research led to a demand for a specialized journal. In this scientific environment, the International Society for Cerebral Blood Flow and Metabolism (ISCBFM) and its official Journal of Cerebral Metabolism were established in 1981 and has since then been a major success. The development of new brain imaging methods has had a major impact. Regulation of CBF and ischemia has been the main topics at the meetings. A new field of brain mapping research emerged and has now its own society and meetings. Brain emission tomography research has grown within the society and is now an integrated part. The ISCBFM is a sound society, and support of young scientists is among its goals. Several awards have been established. Other activities including summer schools, courses, satellite meetings, and Gordon conferences have contributed to the success of the society and strengthened the research.
