In feminist media studies, the growing body of research on media production has indicated that journalism remains divided along gender lines. The purpose of this study is to address the lack of relevant multi-method research on gender inequality in journalism. Abstract This paper proposes a three-tiered approach to genre analysis. A system of generic stages is derived from configurations of options from the systems of transitivity, mood, theme, conjunction, reference and tense. Generic structures, motivated by context-specific generic strategies, are, in turn, derived from generic stages. The approach is applied to a small corpus of press articles dealing with the relation between parents and children.

Abstract:
The starting point of this study is to reveal how Syrian children, who are still experiencing a vexed problem in Turkey and are thought to affect our immediate future, are represented in the newspapers. The most frequently used themes were identified in the news through qualitative content analysis, and by means of discourse analysis method, it was aimed to reveal the representations produced through discourses. The subject has been discussed from an interdisciplinary and critical perspective. It was an important finding in the news about these children that there is a lack of emphasis concerning children's rights and the perspective of children's rights which was stated in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), to which Turkey is a party. Although the lack of a rights-based perspective in the news in the study is notable, journalism guidelines respecting children's rights should be the basic principle in preparing news about children in general and Syrian children in particular.

Caroline Bressey’s essay explores how ‘racial prejudice excluded black women from new spaces of expression created by white women’ in the British press (p. 528). It was not until 1900, with the founding of the Pan-African, that there was a British periodical explicitly dedicated to publishing the contributions of black journalists. Thus, the history of black women’s journalism in Britain prior to the turn of the century is largely unknown. This lack of scholarship makes it necessary to take a ‘transatlantic comparative approach’ when surveying an emerging field of inquiry (p. 528). In the United States, there was more explicit discussion of black women’s contributions to the periodical press, as highlighted in I. Garland Penn’s 1891 book, The Afro-American Press and Its Editors. This volume not only highlighted the unequal, sometimes hostile environment in which black journalists worked but also provided a key for discovering the names and achievements of a wide range of women writers, including Victoria Earle and Ida B. Wells. These writers spoke out on key political issues, including racism and sexism, contributing to journals as diverse as Our Women and Children (1888–90) and the more radical Free Speech (1892).

After the vote was won, Crystal Eastman hoped to transform successful but single-issue suffragism into a class- and race-conscious, transnationally minded feminism. She ran afoul of Alice Paul, unquestioned leader of the National Woman’s Party, who wanted another targeted single-issue campaign. By 1923, Eastman, Paul, and the organization agreed on the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) as their new “great demand.” In its all-encompassing simplicity, the ERA solved the problem of how a single-issue campaign could seek redress for the huge and complicated problem of gender inequality. Unfortunately, the idea splintered coalitions in the wider women’s movement, alienating the party from a whole network of once-compatible Progressive groups. Eastman, now living in her husband’s native London with their children, worked as a journalist, covering this debate. By 1926, little progress had been made, and she welcomed a fresh tack. She began working with Paul to campaign for equal rights provisions in international treaties.

ABSTRACT Background: Stunting, a chronic malnutrition, remains a serious global health concern. In 2019, UNICEF announced that 21.3% of children under five years of age were stunted. This study aimed to analyze the factors associated with stunting to complement the evidence for stunting ongoing efforts.
