Full text"Computational journalism is the application of computing [...] to the activities of journalism including information gathering, organization and sensemaking, communication and presentation, and dissemination and public response to news information, all while upholding core values of journalism" (Diakopoulos, 2010). This study, based on a series of 30 semi-structured interviews with journalists, managers, but also data and computer scientists (in order to get a point of view from outside journalism), provides a characterization of computational journalism as it is practised in 2015 in the Canadian province of Québec. Two prevailing attitudes towards computational journalism are expressed through different types of boundary work. On one hand, some respondents think journalism and computer science are two separate fields, each with their own professionals. Another group of respondents feels, on the other hand, that both disciplines should blend into a hybrid profession with its own, distinct, "professional territory". This research dives into the motivations, the necessary skills and workflows of Québec computational journalists, and argues they contribute to a re-professionalization of journalism. Keywords : journalism; computer science; technology; computational journalism; data journalism; datajournalism; computer-assisted reporting; professionalism; professional identity; professional skills; boundary work; journalistic innovation; Canada; Quebec

Full textThis academic research focuses on the emergence of contemporary practices in the treatment of online news recently brought within the reach of non-professionals through the development of information and communication technologies, and grouped under the concept of citizen journalism. Two different but complementary approaches constitute the essential basis of this research study: The first approach is to examine the nature and identity of the profession of journalism, its weight and its limits, and its evolution after the emergence of the Web, as well as the arrival of new media technology and its confrontation with information and communication technologies. It also attempts to understand and analyze the essence, characteristics, dimensions and challenges of the uses of amateur journalism brought to the attention of everyone via digital technology. The second approach consists of a case study of citizen media in Persian. It includes several researches and analyses, such as: The sphere of journalism and the media environment in Iran; the way in which Internet is used and the rate of trust of internet-users vis-à-vis the source of online information from citizens; the manner in which Iranian professional journalism receives citizen journalism and ordinary people’s involvement in the current affairs; the priorities of the creators of citizen media, and their own methods of collecting, processing and publishing online information. This thesis also takes into account the limitations, restrictions and identified issues of this new journalism practice in relation to its practitioners

This thesis focuses on seeking to understand the tension between transformations in contemporary journalistic writing and the obligation of truth traditionally associated with this activity. This idealised social mandate speaks to the appeal and to the legitimacy of journalistic practice and has a strong echo in the shifting public spaces where media companies and journalists are experimenting with new ways to inform. The research focuses on multimedia journalistic narratives exploiting the specificities of digital writing (webdocumentary, scrollytelling, long format, etc.). Our hypothesis is that the changes at play in these informative devices are negotiated in the cooperative dimension of the web. The research is based on the analysis of a corpus of five stories produced in the French news media in the decade 2009-2019. It is complemented by interviews with their authors and producers. This work investigates the emergent practice of webjournalism as acts of writing in which narrative and digital modalities contribute to a reformulation of veridicity as a journalistic contract.
Kurpiel, Solange. Thesis, Lyon, 2019. http://www.theses.fr/2019LYSE2034/document.
Full textWith the opening of the Internet to the public, in 1994, a new alternative journalistic offer emerged around the world. On the initiative of experienced and recognized professionals, these news websites are part of a common ideological and democratic project: the Internet Media Dreamin'. It represents the dream of rehabilitating a journalism committed to democratic interests and citizens, which has been perverted over the years by the economic logic of the market. To achieve this, these dreamers' adhere to the public cyberspace, as well as to its promises of citizen empowerment, deinstitutionalization of the public debate, and freedom of information sharing. For them, the Internet is more than a technology: it is a solution that would allow them to circumvent a hegemonic information environment. Focusing on the process of reconfiguration of the journalistic landscape, this PhD thesis questions the ability of the online alternative offer to break with the institutional hierarchies of information, by proposing media spaces that promote a polyphonic citizen expression. This initial questioning is developed from three perspectives: 1) the individual and their citizen and media action; 2) the media and their communication positioning in the public debate; and 3) media structures and journalistic practices. Our study panel is composed of 50 news pure plays from Brazil and from France: a global one with editions in each of the two countries, and 48 alternative national projects. For its treatment, we implemented a thematic content analysis based on data collected through information monitoring conducted between 2016 and 2019, and 31 semi-structured interviews with content producers involved in the projects studied. Inspired by the method of media information gender analysis established by Patrick Charaudeau (1997, 2006, 2011), we analyzed the discourse of two "event-theme" articles (Soulages, 2002): women's condition and presidential elections of 2017 in France and 2018 in Brazil. To carry out this study, 3,147 texts were collected using manual and automatic methods, then processed according to the positions and the engagement levels of the speakers, according to two axes: enunciative postures and discursive points of view. To structure our discussions, this thesis is organized in two parts, which refer to the temporal evolution of the ideological and media development of alternative online journalistic projects. The first part, entitled "In Dreams", reveals a theoretical and empirical problematization of three ideological and democratic projects, that we call Internet Dreamin', Media Dreamin' and Internet Media Dreamin '. Then "In flesh and blood" aims to ponder about the incarnation process of the Internet Media Dreamin' in and by the social body. For this, we develop three chapters based on the tensions established by alternative journalism producers regarding the dominant journalistic models: 1) bourgeois and citizen voice; 2) homogeneous and heterogeneous information; 3) dependent and independent media. In addition to these theoretical and empirical contributions, this thesis aims to propose a methodology for the constitution of discursive cartography, eliciting the degree of commitment of the media offer

Full textThis study aims to analyze Facebook editorial strategies by Quebec media companies and their eventual use of clickbait strategies. Marked by technological and socioeconomic shifts within the media landscape for almost two decades, media companies must adapt their publication strategies to new media platforms, including those of social network sites such as Facebook and infomediaries. This research evaluates the presence of indicators of a clickbait derived from existing literature (Chen, Conroy et Rubin , 2015)) and its use by three different Quebec media companies: Radio-Canada/CBC (ICI Québec), Groupe Capitales Médias (Le Soleil) and Quebecor (le Journal de Québec). Based on a mixed methods qualitative research, which combines content analysis of Facebook publications to quantify the use of clickbait within these three companies, and open interviews with content managers to further understand the broadcast strategies put in place, we find that there is no significant use of clickbait strategies within these media companies. However, the analysis shows that certain indicators are definitely more present, as media companies try to get attention on Facebook while trying to work on a long-term reader retention based on trust, rather than count on short-lived viral attention.

Full text1) What is high quality news in internet-native news outlets? What is the criterion?
2) What are the process of development and experience of internet as news outlets? Why do professional journalists of traditional media seek internet as news outlets?
3) How do journalists use ICTs to make the best of alternative news outlets? What are the operation models and their characteristics?
This dissertation derived from the assumption that internet-native news outlets are effective journalistic practices to improve the quality of the news. To understand this proposition, various perspectives of definition and the way of measuring the quality of the news were adopted in this research. Practically, three internet-native news outlets were chosen as case studies in this research: The French website Rue89, Belgium website Apache and Spanish website Eldiario. The empirical part of this study includes twenty in-depth interviews and observation in their newsrooms, and basic statistics of top news stories in the home page of six websites from the three countries. Therefore, both quantitative and qualitative methods have been used in this research.
The contribution of this research is rethinking quality journalism in the digital age and introducing the journalistic experiences of professional journalists. First, this research provides an academic definition for the newly generated websites, and theorizes it as Internet-native news outlets. Next, this research analysed internet-native news outlets systematically, especially importing the European journalism website to the domain of online journalism studies. Moreover, the introduction of journalist’s statues in different countries is a valuable complement for journalism studies. Furthermore, the method of interview, observation and case study were applied in this research, which is a new examination of online journalism research. Finally, internet-native news outlets create a positive interaction between journalists and readers, which also enrich the news issues and news resource. It is quite important to rethink and discover the social problems. These academic explorations certainly confront many challenges because of majority of social and culture factors, but the results would be valuable for the reflection on knowledge construction in the international academy.

Full textAlthough the election of François Mitterrand was an event in its own right – the Socialist Party came into power promising social change – it also brought to light the changes which affected the general and political media in the 198Os and 9Os. An exceptional political event, which also heralded a shake-up in key positions in civil society as well as in politics on a national, regional and local scale, and the mid-sized town of Libourne in Gironde, a few kilometres from Bordeaux which was at that time still administered by Jacques Chaban-Delmas, was no exception to the rule. Indeed, beginning in 1986 Gilbert Mitterrand, one of the President’s son, was repeatedly elected mayor and member of Parliament. In this particular Gironde context, how did a local newspaper, which had always been Resistant (in the historical sense of the word), then Gaullist and later Republican, Le Résistant de Libourne, suddenly become a mouthpiece for the socialists who had made a deal with part of the Libournese right-wing in order to re-elect Gilbert Mitterrand as mayor of Libourne ? Why did its local media appearance then position it next to an “a-political regional daily, the Sud-Ouest, which ended up acquiring it ? This calls into question the very essence of local reporting : which information ? Of what tendency ? What and for whom ?It is this hypothesis which under-pins a large part of this work and will enable us to explain, to some extent, the hidden face of the written press, torn between its duty and partisan temptations. By tracing the history of Libournese political reporting from the war-time years to the mid-1990s, we will show how the information in the newspaper Le Résistant came to resemble typical journalism, just “like the others”, taken over by a regional daily newspaper. Its special status had disappeared. Is the Internet revolution transforming the world of the written press ?

Full textThe world of the press has undergone profound changes in the era of the digital revolution. For at least fifteen years, the changes brought about by the development of the Internet, the web and the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) have continued to shake up the paradigm of the profession . Journalism and its teaching have both faced and still face unprecedented upheavals. In addition to the metamorphoses that have impacted the ecosystem of production and distribution of media information, the emergence of new formats and supports of journalistic content has required the mastery of new skills which aim, in their majority, to capture a increasingly heterogeneous online audience and to interact with them. Data journalism (or data journalism), microblogging, crowdsourcing, participatory journalism, mobile journalism...So many skills that have become essential for working as a journalist these days. In Morocco, the first and only journalism school recognized by the State, the Higher Institute of Information and Communication (ISIC) in Rabat was at the center of our empirical research since we verified whether student journalists master the new skills linked to web journalism and therefore, the management and involvement of the online audience. In order to conduct our research with scientific rigor, we opted for a mixed methodology containing five data collection instruments from two data sources (students and professors)

Full textIn this thesis, the experiences of the users with regard to the development of new technologies (of telecommunication, internet and mobile phones) in Turkey on the internet are analyzed. The objective is to demonstrate the effects of the new technologies on the practices of the internet users reaching the news via computer and mobile phone. The purpose is to observe the transformation of the daily practices on the internet due to the evolution of the broadcast, the development of the telecommunication market, the development of the adapted interface to the Website ergonomics and the invention of the new technological devices (such as smartphones). The presentation of this process consists of three different parts. The first part is about the historical evolution of internet as a new news media, the usage of new information and communication technologies and the adaptation of the society. The second part analyzes the properties of the news sites. It concerns the new ways of searching news via mobile phones. The third and last part is about the analysis of the relation between turkish users and new information and communication technologies and the transformation of the habits of searching news.According to our studies, the digitalization of the news, evolution of smart phones and the development of social media affects the mode and manners of reading. Nowadays, the practices of online news consumption is more multiple. The ergonomics of interface of websites and applications has a significant role on their media preferences

Full textAs the production of digital texts grows exponentially, a greater need to analyze text corpora arises in various domains of application, insofar as they constitute inexhaustible sources of shared information and knowledge. We therefore propose in this thesis a novel visual analytics approach for the analysis of text corpora, implemented for the real and concrete needs of investigative journalism. Motivated by the problems and tasks identified with a professional investigative journalist, visualizations and interactions are designed through a user-centered methodology involving the user during the whole development process. Specifically, investigative journalists formulate hypotheses and explore exhaustively the field under investigation in order to multiply sources showing pieces of evidence related to their working hypothesis. Carrying out such tasks in a large corpus is however a daunting endeavor and requires visual analytics software addressing several challenging research issues covered in this thesis. First, the difficulty to make sense of a large text corpus lies in its unstructured nature. We resort to the Vector Space Model (VSM) and its strong relationship with the distributional hypothesis, leveraged by multiple text mining algorithms, to discover the latent semantic structure of the corpus. Topic models and biclustering methods are recognized to be well suited to the extraction of coarse-grained topics, i.e. groups of documents concerning similar topics, each one represented by a set of terms extracted from textual contents. We provide a new Weighted Topic Map visualization that conveys a broad overview of coarse-grained topics by allowing quick interpretation of contents through multiple tag clouds while depicting the topical structure such as the relative importance of topics and their semantic similarity. Although the exploration of the coarse-grained topics helps locate topic of interest and its neighborhood, the identification of specific facts, viewpoints or angles related to events or stories requires finer level of structuration to represent topic variants. This nested structure, revealed by Bimax, a pattern-based overlapping biclustering algorithm, captures in biclusters the co-occurrences of terms shared by multiple documents and can disclose facts, viewpoints or angles related to events or stories. This thesis tackles issues related to the visualization of a large amount of overlapping biclusters by organizing term-document biclusters in a hierarchy that limits term redundancy and conveys their commonality and specificities. We evaluated the utility of our software through a usage scenario and a qualitative evaluation with an investigative journalist. In addition, the co-occurrence patterns of topic variants revealed by Bima. are determined by the enclosing topical structure supplied by the coarse-grained topic extraction method which is run beforehand. Nonetheless, little guidance is found regarding the choice of the latter method and its impact on the exploration and comprehension of topics and topic variants. Therefore we conducted both a numerical experiment and a controlled user experiment to compare two topic extraction methods, namely Coclus, a disjoint biclustering method, and hierarchical Latent Dirichlet Allocation (hLDA), an overlapping probabilistic topic model. The theoretical foundation of both methods is systematically analyzed by relating them to the distributional hypothesis. The numerical experiment provides statistical evidence of the difference between the resulting topical structure of both methods. The controlled experiment shows their impact on the comprehension of topic and topic variants, from analyst perspective. (...)

It thoroughly examines how new information and communication technologies are integrated with Algerian press companies, their components and their intended aims. Made up of three parts, this research tackles theoretical and practical issues to meet our research needs. Our study led us to analyse technologies integration process, using participant observation, comprehensive interviews conducted with representative samples, and the online analysis of information websites. To strengthen our survey tools, we also had recourse to questionnaires. We have followed an adapted research plan that fits the structuring and the development the online press. We have tried through the study to make clear the link between the techniques and usages. We have had to travel from Nice to Algiers and back several times, and paid visits to a number of Algerian papers in order to be able to better identify our research approach. We have also taken advantage from visit to get closer to people working in the media sector

Full textThe aim of this paper is to present the characteristics of the discourses in interaction generated by the online press. Our hypothetical matrix justifies, in one hand, that a semiolinguistic analysis of the online press can redefine, from a current perspective, the contract of the mass media communication, and, in other hand, that the semiolinguistic analysis of the online press can lead the introduction of the theoretical components of the journalistic coproduction. As a general conclusion, after conducting an analysis of the selected corpus, consisting of digital information published by four reference headers (TheNewYorkTimes.com, DerSpiegel.de, ElPaís.com and LeMonde.fr), we argue that online press intends to promote (controversial) discussions among its readers in order to strengthen the foundations of its economic logic as a sense-making machine. The so-called citizen or participatory journalism is, for now, an advertising and marketing strategy that appeals to readers, and plunges them into a wave of changing situations in which, it is true, everyone can now be a journalist, but never with the same technical resources, communication devices, and, above all, the same range in the vast and invisible audience of such networks

Full textThis thesis focuses on the contemporary practice of political journalism in Québec. More precisely, it investigates the practice of parliamentary journalists online and specifically on social networking sites. Since now, few studies have analysed how political journalists use social media platforms, particularly in non-US contexts and outside of election campaigns. This work aims to fill this gap in journalism studies and political communication literatures by asking three main questions: (1) how and to what extent do political journalists use internet and social media in their professional practice; (2) what are their motivations to do so; (3) how these uses and motivations influence norms and standards of political journalism? Andrew Chadwick’s (2013) hybrid media system theoretical approach guided us through our study of political journalism. This perspective allowed us to conceptualize political communication processes as a hybridization of old and new technologies, genres, practices and norms. To better understand political journalism in the digital age, we conducted a case study of the practices of parliamentary journalists of the National Assembly Press Gallery in Quebec. We developed an innovating mixed methods design which includes a quantitative content analysis of the messages posted by the parliamentary correspondents, on the microblogging site Twitter, and a series of 28 semi-structured interviews with these journalists. Based on these observations, we draw an overall picture of the parliamentary journalists’ uses of internet and social networking sites. Then, we examine in closer details a few dimensions of their practice online, paying specific attention to their uses of Twitter. First, we analyze how and to what extent they convey information in real time. We also investigated the reasons that motivate them to do so. Our data reveals that instantaneity is not only the result of technological affordances. Intense competition in the media industry, a constant quest for visibility and organizational pressures were cited as key motivations to convey information immediately, which became the norm. Second, we studied journalists’ openness to public participation in the construction of political news. More specifically, we looked for elements of transparency, dialog and gatekeeping sharing in the messages conveyed by Quebec political journalists on Twitter. Except for transparency, these elements were rare. The specificity of parliamentary journalism and the way journalists conceived their audience were cited as barriers to the public’s participation in the construction of political news. Finally, we examined political journalists’ relationship with the normative ideal of objectivity, a central norm of North American journalism. We observed the presence of self-promotion and, to a lesser extent, opinion and humour in the messages published by parliamentary journalists on Twitter. This thesis documents an emerging practice during its development. It presents original data on Quebec political journalists’ practice on social networking sites. It describes the complex and hybrid character of their practice. It also shows how economic and organizational factors contribute to shape the uses of technological tools. In a context of crisis in the media industry, competition and organizational pressures encourage practices of immediacy and self-promotion. Despite the interactive potential of social networking sites, journalists’ attitude toward public participation in the construction of political news remains relatively closed, with a few individual exceptions. Political journalists are still attached to the norm of objectivity, but their online practices also shows elements of subjectivity. These continuities and transformations described by Quebec political correspondents are part of a broader debate in the journalistic community. Our work aims to contribute to this discussion by shedding light on a quickly evolving and highly uncertain context.

Full textSince 2002 in Asia, and 2005 in Europe and the United States, press editors and advertisers have offered access to digital content and services to readers that possess a smartphone. These new forms of communication blur the traditional relationships between press editors, advertisers and readers. To study the technical and political elements concerning these new communication services, we rely on the three-layer network approach: the physical, the logical and the content infrastructure layer. The physical layer is located between the sheet of paper and the electronic device that links the user to a network. The logical layer corresponds to the form (private or public) of what is printed on the page (i.e., human readable or machine language) and the software employed (i.e., local or distant reading), be it synchronously (augmented press) or asynchronously (graphic codes, image search or image identification). The third layer concerns the way the content from the printed page are presented on the screen of the smartphone. Our study equally aims to shed light on the current legal translations of software methods: when based on content, the methods are seen to concern intellectual property law; whereas when based on computer language they concern the laws on hyperlinks. With smartphones, a printed edition evolves from an information medium to an electronic communication channel where the context and the identity of the user play an innovative role in the transmission and access to information

Full textThe emergence of digital networks within professional environment continues to provoke some questions with regards to the functioning of press corporations. Journalists, who meet with technological changes, are not the only ones whose prerogatives are the production and broadcasting of the media. Their professional identity is put to the test when applied to the context of the social and economic environments, thus they are seeking solutions to the globalization of the media. Senegal is no exception to this process of digital media with the coming out of the on-line newspapers which try to adapt to the on-line publication and therefore are based on the social and economic environment of Senegal and the demands of the modern world. Discussions about information and communication technologies are subject to divided opinions, particulary between the optimistic view which perpetuates the ideology of the liberal capitalistic system and the pessimistic view emphasizing social and cultural aspects. The understanding and meanings of social actions are the main objectives of this thesis, the aim of which is to analyse the representations and theories of the Senegalese on-line press within a socio-discursive scope. Based on this comprehensive Weberian sociology, the on-line press in Senegal will be studied through economics and politics in order to reveal the local cultural experiments at work. Through the everyday life of social actors we will try to emphasize their appropriation and use of the media. Based on the intention to understand how regional journalism is configured in its printed and online interface regarding news quality and the public interest, this research establishes a semiodiscursive analysis of the newspaper O Popular, considering its physical and digital versions. The study starts from the perspective that journalism is related to ideas of truth, public interest and citizenship and is justified by the limited bibliography on regional journalism and an urgent need to understand the practices adopted by the newspapers at the transitory moment in which it lives. A moment that Charron and Bonville (2016) consider a paradigmatic transition from information journalism to communication one. After the popularization of the Internet, there is a definition lack of journalism place. In addition, there is no knowledge about how to finance journalistic practices. It is believed, according to Charaudeau (2015), that the media maintains a space of citizenship essential for democracy. Thus, it is investigated how this commitment to offer quality information remains active in the face of the challenges with which newspapers live in the network society. To do so, the research was developed between 2016 and 2018, with three specific periods of data collection: August 21 to 24, October 25 to 31 and November 6 to 12, all in 2017. In the analysis, it is possible to perceive that the practices adopted for the printed version of the journal have more traditional characteristics and are directly related to the legitimating discourse of journalism, while the practices adopted for the online version show less commitment with ideas of public interest and citizenship, presenting subjects in a hurried and incomplete way, which reduces the reliability and credibility of the media, as well as diminishing the true effect of the journalism practiced. We can see the distance between the two points of the interface analyzed, with the predisposition of the digital newspaper to "sensationalism" and the nonthematic focus on the "exercise of power" in the printed version. It attends to the public interest in subjects, but not in deepening and contextualization, which occurs to the detriment of the quality of the newspaper and impedes the access of the reader to information that helps in the process of construction of reality and in the capacity to self-govern socially and politically.

Full textOur work has the objective of studying the function of die Neue Rheinische Zeitung during the German revolution in 1848. Our work is based on a corpus that consists of all the numbers of the journal that comprise of special editions and supplements. Our study analyses the conception of the newspaper as imagined by its founders, its journalistic creation as well as the evolution of its political direction. The basis of our analysis is the notion of public sphere, notably the bourgeois public sphere conceived by Jürgen Habermas in 1961 but also the notions of the plebeian public sphere and the proletarian public sphere. These notions had been developped by the research in the meantime. After having studied the situation of the public sphere in Germany and the evolution of the labour movement that already existed at the start of the revolution and the beginnings of die Neue Rheinische Zeitung, we developped the hypothesis that the journal was an independent project conceived for the bourgeois public sphere in parallel with the project of the Communist League, which was created for the attention of the labour movement and the emerging proletarian public sphere. The conception of the Neue Rheinische Zeitung takes its inspiration from his founders, namely chief contributor Karl Marx and his analyses about the situation in Germany and in Europe. According to his analysis, the newspaper had an impact on the course of the revolution. The first idea behind it is to put the progressive parties under pressure. Consequently, his strategy is to enter the democratic movement in order to push its members towards a political confrontation with the monarchy. At the start of its existence, it adapted itself to the criteria of the bourgeois public sphere and therefore matched the criteria and the political standards of journalism at that time in terms of writing skills, organization, production and distribution. Our statistics of the articles dealing with Germany and other foreign countries show that it is about a Prussian newspaper, which benefited from a wide network of correspondents in the regions and states in Germany as well as Europe. Information coming from European countries is extremely important, certainly because of the European conception which the journal developed of the revolution in 1848. A particular feature of the journal is that it followed all the changes of the public sphere during the revolution. Its politics was characterized by the defence of the revolution ad in the first instance of the Freedom of the Press. Confronted by a splitting up and a partial destruction of the bourgeois public sphere, the political movement started moving from a critic of the Parliaments in Frankfurt and Berlin into a more and more insurrectional direction against the government. During the crises of September and November 1848, its influence on the democrats is notable without being completely imposing. In reaction to the negative results of the democratic political movement, the contributors started quitting the leadership in Rhineland in spring 1849 to integrate die Allgemeine Deutsche Arbeiterverbrüderung of Leipzig. The decision corresponded to a changing direction towards the proletarian public sphere whose progress had been interrupted by the end of the revolution and could not be realized

The present project aims to reflect the contemporary role of the journalist in face of the advent of the impact the internet and answer questions about how the media trade should structured themselves, since the power of digital technologies can transform anyone into 'occasional reporter' or exclusive source of information. The project also suggests the increseament of the increseament of the debate about the possibility to take advantage of these participators, transforming them into partners, not competitors. To what extent these participations are beneficial? How they are actually useful to journalism? The technologies of the Web 2.0 are useful when they collaborate with the process of the notice confection as information source. However, the contribution cannot be the end, only the primary source. Inside of this context of contribution and sharing online, we have the social networks especially as potential help, for the journalists who work with entertainnment and world of the celebrities. Finally, the project draws consideration abouto the link between twitter and conventional media, from the identification and analysis of specific cases extracted from microblog, materials published in several media or even space for reverberation of published contents

Full textThe general aim of this work is to study the manifest of dramatic narratives and their signification in the news portals. Specifically, it queries how the new information flows distribute their content in virtual environments and how this composition interferes in the signification of the reported facts. Our hypothesis suggests the online mosaics add a second level to the texts, reaffirming stereotypes, starting from the verbal and visual composition of their homepages. The investigation focuses on the observation of fait divers , whose signification is supported by the mix of fictional narratives with the reality and the relationship of these with serials, nineteenth-century genre that reappears, compressed, in the portals footers. The research corpus is composed of free and open websites, G1 and UOL, selected between 2012 and 2014. The methodology is based on the understanding of the syncretic object from the perspective of Discursive Semiotics, preceded by a bibliographical and documental survey, with systematic monitoring of those medias. Theoretically, we have adopted the A. J. Greimas Semiotic models, the classic work developed for the press by Roland Barthes, especially his ideas on the narrative movement of the news when dealing with the fait divers and myth , and the Marshall McLuhan s interpretation for the media organization as a mosaic. We also bring along the concept of journalistic field, defined by Pierre Bourdieu, to analyze the struggles it accomplishes to acquire visibility

The purpose of this work is to analyze the conceptual and historical quality of on-line materials from some websites belonging to scientific dissemination magazines, in which the criteria is that created from the review literature relevant to the topic of nuclear energy. To do this, we needed initially, a large literary revision regarding the topic and its nuances, looking for informations about scientists and journalists, providing us an accurate guide on the quality, of the didactic potential and deficiency in disclosure considered scientific research. We also made an investigation about fundamental historical aspects necessary to fomentation that would give us a consolidation on this subject, delimiting between events that led to the discovery of nuclear fission and the production of the first atomic bombs. We delimit our methodology within a qualitative approach, seeking to explore and describe all topics related to this topic, which are published in four magazine websites, Galileu, Superinteressante, Ciência Hoje and Scientific American Brasil. After analyzing strictly the subject of the cited journals, our results point to conceptual and historical errors and corrections, deficiencies in relation to sources from the used research, the need for cooperation between academic and journalistic professionals, fanciful disclosures on the subject, without a total concern about the reader's profile.

Abstract: In modern society, the media play a central role in different sectors, since they appear as a fundamental tool for the exercise of citizenship and the dissemination of knowledge - a situation that is also verified in the fields of alimentation and nutrition . The topic of alimentation and nutrition is increasingly noticeable in various media: this presence has been valued for its potential to contribute to the promotion of healthy nutrition and health in general; however, it has also been questioned as to its credibility and adequacy which are often compromised by market influences (determined by the esthetic industry, for instance). Given these issues, this dissertation sought to analyze the quality of the content related to the topic of alimentation and nutrition in two online teen magazines - Todateen and Capricho. A qualitative research was performed using the Content Analysis method in combination with theoretical and conceptual frameworks of the Cultural Studies. The corpus for analysis consisted of 111 texts (68 texts of the online magazine Capricho and 43 texts of the online magazine Todateen). The corpus was selected by searching in the websites of the magazines Capricho and Todateen using keywords related to the topics of alimentation and nutrition, and we selected the time frame of one year (year 2012). The main results and analysis of the texts in the corpus were: celebrities were always the preferred sources of information; the main role of the sources was to report personal experiences; the approach was predominantly factual; the use of linguistic terms was inadequate and presented a loss of meaning; the occurrence of information promoting healthy nutrition practices was reduced; issues of public interest hardly entered on the agenda; the framework was characterized by the prevalence of a biological dimension for alimentation and nutrition with a focus on esthetics, and the concepts of alimentation and nutrition were more based on the idea of a restrictive diet than on healthy eating. These results allow us to affirm that the contents of the magazines analyzed do not present satisfactory quality and potential to contribute to alimentation and nutrition safety of adolescents

Full textThe Masters degree dissertation is a research about weblog and the way the journalistic firms use it. In the first part, we did an historical and etymological examination to understand this concept of hypertext page, as well as we look for convergences between the two forms. For that purpose we search, in the blogs lexical ambiguity meanings, the confluent definitions, discovering the most usual way as a column, particularly in the form of digest. After that we watch, in the Brazilian press available samples, those that evaluate, as a kind of media criticism, the meaning and the action of journalistic procedures, choosing by the detailed examination of two cases: the Blog do Observatório da Imprensa (Bloi) and the No Mínimo Weblog, examining quantitatively the production, available in the Annex A, as well as qualitatively, by hermeneutics and the Discourse Analysis. To make familiar those that are unaware of the concepts of this methodology, was enclosed a glossary. In the verification of the results, we conclude that the publications, choosing the journalism as protagonist of its narratives, value the activity and sends, by the argumentative texture, to the tradition of journalistic praxis.
