Abstract:
The article discusses the concept of journalistic ethics in the PRC, documents codifying ethical norms, as well as the basic principles that guide Chinese journalists in their professional activities. The authors identify principles of the ethics of journalists in the modern PRC: conducting professional work in the interests and in accordance with the values of the CPC; perceiving information as something to be given, as news to be reliably told to the general public. The journalist must be an exemplary representative of Chinese society who is able to inspire and lead the people of the PRC. This statement, according to the analyzed survey, is supported by the majority of journalists in China. Less attention is paid to practical recommendations for the work of journalists than to ideological postulates from both the government, the controlling organization, and the journalistic community.

Abstract:
Ethical principles refer to a system that guides and dictates journalistic work, media laws and legislation, which determines actions in a particular situation. It is based on personal, professional, social and ethical values and investment in building a system of ethical principles aimed at protecting the integrity of journalists is an investment of great importance. It can contribute to improving the image of journalists and contribute to increasing the chances of success of their press institutions and increase public respect for the profession. At the same time, these standards define the legal responsibilities and duties imposed on journalists, because the purpose of journalism is to achieve respect for human dignity of persons with full and responsible respect for their values, diversity and privacy, and respect for all the requirements of protecting public order. On the other hand, national legislation requires a journalist to adhere to the ethical principles governing the conduct of journalists, and it is obvious that these principles are behaviors that characterize a journalist

Abstract:
Ethics in Journalism as a Basis for the Journalistic Profession Ethically tense situations which include a conflict of values or various natures or principles commonly appear in the media, as well as within the journalistic profession. In such cases it is very difficult to find ideal solutions. The role of the journalist is to seek solutions that are in the spirit of truth, objectivity, impartiality and at the same time provide a public service. Journalists must act socially responsibly on a whole range of issues, but also remain loyal to their employers. In this context, it is necessary to distinguish between the ethics of journalists of the public service and those of the tabloid media.

Abstract:
It is impossible to imagine journalism without ethical norms and rules. All journalists, regardless of the field in which they work, must always adhere to these norms. This is primarily due to the nature, function and scope of the media. The audience meets any article in the media with great sensitivity. The journalist must thoroughly investigate the facts and events and not make mistakes. The journalist must be especially careful in his statements and examples. Thus, touching a person's reputation is unaccepted not only in society, but also in journalism in general. The journalist must distinguish between criticism and insult and see these differences. A journalist's professional ethics and professional duties are in harmony with each other. In the context of professional ethics, debt is considered an important quality. The professional ethics of a journalist regulates his responsibility to the public - readers, listeners, viewers for accurate, objective information. Professional ethics has emerged in the form of historically unwritten "laws". In general, a person based on the voice of conscience, justice and socially accepted rules in any field of activity has two main goals: to raise the level of necessity and appropriateness of the profession in addition to the executor of this profession; awareness of responsibility to society and people. As journalism serves people and society as a public institution, it can face a variety of challenges on a daily basis. One of these problems is ethical principles. The article discusses how sports journalists follow these principles.

This article aims to describe in detail the social media influence on a shift towards journalistic practices in Malang Raya. Through observation and in-depth interviews to journalists of Malang Voice, Surya Malang, Times Indonesia, and Campus Info, this study has concluded that there has been a shift in journalistic activities resulted from the rapid growth of social media, namely the way of news production and news dissemination, the way of understanding journalistic principles, and gatekeeping role. In this regards, social media has become a highly important part of newsgathering as a wider range of sources, references, ideas, and issues, as well as channels for disseminating news. With regard to the changes of journalistic principle meaning, journalistic objectivity has referred to authentication, verification has shifted to transparency, and gatekeeping role has changed to collaborative practices.

Abstract:
The digital evolution in the journalistic arena forces journalists to adapt their practices to the rules that come from the economic arena associated with commercialization. Reduced advertising revenue has resulted in the media tending to prioritize financial survival over journalistic principles or ethics. This research aims to describe how journalists struggle to define journalistic practices amidst the pressure of commercialization, using Bourdieu's theoretical perspective. The method used is metajournalistic discourse, using metajournalistic documents in the form of scripts written by digital journalists who broadcast on Remotivi. Metajournalistic discourse is a textual analysis method that focuses on how journalists tell stories about their journalistic practices, and these stories are assumed to shape the journalistic arena they inhabit. The findings show that journalists experience a paradox in defining and carrying out journalistic practices that are considered ideal. On the one hand, journalists appear to carry out journalistic practices in a situation with a high degree of heteronomy. On the other hand, journalists also seek to develop resistance by maintaining or developing definitions of journalistic practices or norms that are close to the autonomy pole, for example, by defining their journalistic practice with the term "journalistic jihad.” These idealized journalistic definitions or norms (which prioritize verification, accuracy, and adherence to journalistic firewalls) are shared and circulated through discourse texts to become resistance narratives.

Abstract:
The professional ethics of journalists stands out as a pressing issue in contemporary public opinion. This article delves into the impact of the national mentality on journalists’ ethical norms and positions, as endorsed by global journalistic associations. “Journalistic ethics is a pivotal aspect of a journalist’s work. The in-depth reading, comprehensive understanding, and exploration of this represent one of the significant challenges in Kazakh journalism. This complex issue, often overlooked, remains insufficiently acknowledged in both scholarly and professional domains,” the study thoroughly examines within the context of the national mentality. The research provides a scholarly understanding of the continuity of traditions, customs, life positions, and perspectives of the Kazakh people in today’s national journalism. The investigation scrutinizes the extent to which national manners shape journalistic ethics. Many media outlets have exceeded boundaries to boost viewership or readership, exaggerating with high ratings and disseminating misinformation, thereby shaping a contemporary model of journalistic culture. The authors highlight the challenging conditions for information dissemination influenced by such factors. In the final conclusion, the study establishes that scrutinizing ethical principles in the media aids in predicting developmental processes in the state and society, facilitating the formulation of strategies to transform social communication and media culture into a beneficial channel for society.

Abstract:
This article aims to study the urgency of applying journalistic ethics in online Islamic media activities. The study focuses on analyzing the seven standards of Islamic Media Literacy from Indonesian Ministry of Religion, namely (1) principles of online news production, (2) news distribution ethics, (3) accuracy and anti hoax, (4) the spirit of amar ma'ruf nahyi munkar, (5) principle of wisdom in da'wah, (6) principles in digital interaction, and 7) principle of press freedom. By using the qualitative method of library research, we argue that these seven principles could be said as journalistic ethics that must be applied in Islamic media reporting activities. These values are extremely important for Islamic media activities because the credibility of journalists and media institutions is related to public assessment which is quite determining the continuity of media life. The news in online Islamic media has different characteristics from other media. Online Islamic media cannot avoid how a text or symbol is presented in the category of fundamentalism-radicalism or moderate Islamic ideology. Problems arise when the radical Islamic ideology is more dominant than moderate Islamic ideology so that it is not uncommon for the Islamic media to get caught up in provocative actions which in some limits create disharmony for people's lives. If that is the case, the application of peaceful journalistic values becomes important to display Islamic da'wah of rahmatan li alamin.

Journalists&rsquo
commitment to an objective, impartial, balanced way of reporting and their respect for ethical norms are considered a vital prerequisite for democracy to be carried out. The general purpose of this thesis is to reveal whether established journalistic practices in Turkey are shaped through commonly acknowledged professional principles in a way that is compatible with democratic expectancies. In order to achieve this goal, a group of journalists were interviewed in the summer of 2003 who worked as parliament journalists at some time in their careers. They were asked several questions mainly concerning the factors that might have influence on the processes of news making with a special emphasis on the negative consequences of the complex structure of media-politics relationships. The analysis of the interviews reveals Turkish journalists&rsquo
views that journalism in Turkey is faced with serious problems and even may be characterized by a high degree of &ldquo

Abstract:
This dissertation questions whether the current system of journalistic self-regulation in Australia can give effect to ethical journalism given the conceptual paradigms that have informed its understanding of journalism and journalism ethics. It argues the ideological focus of journalistic self-regulation has constrained the current system's ability to encourage ethical journalism. By taking a grounded theory approach to developing an alternative theory of journalism, this study attempts to fill a void in the reform of journalistic self-regulation in Australia by first highlighting the shortfall in recent reviews. It then argues reform must address the ideological focus of the journalism industry. This means looking at the ideologies espoused in the industry codes. It also means looking at the ideologies that frame how values reflected in the codes are interpreted. In summary, my aim in this dissertation is to articulate a praxis-driven theory of journalism by which to examine the suitability of the Australian self-regulatory environment to give effect to ethical journalism. This will be done by: mapping the current system of journalistic self-regulation; distilling the ideological foci of contemporary interpretations of journalism and journalism ethics; postulating an alternative theory of journalism as practice; evaluating the current system of self-regulation in light of the theory of journalism as practice; and recommending an alternative model of self-regulation that takes account of the theory of journalism as practice. The grounded theory approach to this study involves a textual analysis of a representative sample of self-regulatory codes to identify deficiencies in the way philosophical understandings of identity and ethics have been applied to journalism. By highlighting the gaps in the conceptual paradigm that frames the current theories of journalism and journalism ethics, I offer insights into key problems facing industry self-regulation. Given its grounding in substantive data analysis, the theory developed in this study is able to offer significant insights into ways of improving journalistic self-regulation to encourage ethical journalism. By categorising the self-regulatory codes according to ideology, I aim to explain how core journalistic values can be marginalized. Thus, this study aims to reveal problems with the way in which journalism self-regulation has been conceptualised and operationalised. In this way, it uses the tools of meta-ethics and normative ethics to analyse an ethical problem. Thus the grounded theory emerging from this study falls into the conceptual category of applied ethics. This approach offers a flexible methodology that allows the development of an emergent theory based on raw data derived from the various codes that operate within the journalistic self-regulatory environment. The research problem starts broadly, looking at the ability of the current system of journalistic self-regulation to encourage ethical journalism. The focus of the study is on organizational ideology and conceptions of journalism, rather than individual values of journalists. Through a process of constant comparison I will focus the research problem, constructing a theoretical framework to evaluate whether the current system of journalistic self-regulation can encourage ethical journalism. To achieve these objectives, the study will canvass both process (the ability of self-regulation to give effect to ethical journalism) and action (building a theoretical framework for conceptualising reform). A grounded theory approach offers a way of categorising conceptions of journalism and self-regulation allowing me to develop an alternative theory of journalism that promotes a holistic approach to journalism ethics. This study does not purport to offer final solutions to the ethical problems within Australian journalism. It does, however, aim to present an alternative pathway towards reform of journalistic self-regulation in Australia that focuses on encouraging ethical journalism and expanding the theoretical paradigms that shape current approaches to ethics.

Abstract:
This research aims to assess the degree of compliance of |Jornal Nacional| TV News, with the requirements of plurality ensured in the document |Editorial Principles of Globo Organizations|, on the cover of the preparations for the FIFA World Cup and Confederations Cup events. The work is divided into two parts: In the first, it is discussed the concept of plurality in journalism; how this value is related to the pluralist model of democratic theories; in which political circumstances this requirement of the journalistic activity helps to legitimize the journalism as a mediation forum of antagonistics and various positions. In parallel, we identified the editorial guidance document of |Rede Globo| Network as a tool for accountability processes, which enables the monitoring of journalistic content on the part of users, in order to check if the company delivers what ensures produce. The oriented devices to charge the journalistic processes for advertising and responsability of those who produce a public service are understood as a way of strengthening the producer-audience relationship, which competes for the extension of the social responsibility´s activity. In the second part, it´s presented the evaluation of plurality, in which was employed a methodology, developed in the framework of |Program of Research on Quality, Innovation and Technology Applied to Journalism| (Qualijor), which evaluated two aspects of the company: the editorial principles document of Globo Organizations; And the coverage of Jornal Nacional| TV News on the preparations of the mentioned events, with regard to compliance with the requirements for a plural coverage: 1) media autonomy in relation to the parties; 2) debate accessibility by agents potentially involved and 3) balance in the involved participation. The |Rede Globo| Network, as a FIFA´s partner and promoter of the World Cup, hosts the debate about the event in its TV News, but it is also interested party, setting up as well, a situation of conflict of interest that puts into question the basic condition for promotion of a plural coverage, contradicting guarantees provided in its document. In this scenario, this search looks for signs of asymmetry between what is guaranteed and what, in fact, is offered by the journalism of the broadcaster in relation to the plurality; suggesting as well, the increase in the debate on supervision mechanisms of journalistic content, in reason of the quality desired by its producers.

Abstract:
Spurred by the rapid influence of social media in the news industry, an increased number of TV news stations have started assigning dedicated social media journalists (SMJ) in newsrooms to monitor, gather, verify, share news, and engage with audiences on the streams of social media. Consequently, drawing on the diffusion of innovation theory, the present study probes into TV journalists’ perceptions of the implications of the role of this new type of TV professionals in the identity and profession of journalism, the quality of news pertaining to the verification of misinformation, and the news audiences’ attractions and viewership by capitalizing on audience engagement affordances. Moreover, based on an online survey delivered primarily via LinkedIn to a broad spectrum of TV journalists consisting of broadcast, website, and social media journalists in three varied regions of the world—the U.S, Western Europe, and the Middle East—the study demonstrates some concerns about the effects on the code of ethics of journalism. However, most of the surveyed journalists believed that the role of social media journalists SMJ is consistent with the general principles tethered to the professional identity of journalists. Additionally, the study underlines the weight of this role to verify information gleaned from social media before being used in TV news and asserts the significance of engaging with TV audiences to increase the news viewership and enhance their attractions. Accordingly, the study argues that espousing the role of SMJ has become an inevitable fashion in social media-embedded newsrooms. However, the research documents that many TV news channels have broadcast misinformation spread on social media. Furthermore, it unfolds that far less attention has been paid in many TV newsrooms to the potentially positive and beneficial utility of the role of SMJ concerning audience engagement. It signals that a lack of time, tools, strategy, and training causes the dilution of the role quality of SMJ, thereby suggesting that news channels can aggressively tap into this role if these obstacles are conquered. Finally, since research on this concern is still scant at its initial stage, the study shows some venues for future studies in this direction.

Abstract:
Sport journalists are said to be ‘supporter journalists’. They are supposed to be emotional and then barely closed from the detachment required by professional excellence. This dissertation uses cross materials (archives, interviews, ethnography, and content analysis) to give a broader picture of this occupation. It shows that sport journalism’s history has to do with sport business and the legitimization of a market driven journalism. However, such a market driven conception makes do with - sometimes critical - proximity with its object. Such a mass media conception of the sports news is reproduced via schools of journalism. It is all the more efficient since this schools’ teaching fit the economical reality and students’ expectations toward their future work as a “universe of consolation” to pursue their passion for sport. Sport journalism is still regarded from a legitimist point of view as a low-grade journalism, it occupies nowadays a very central position in the professional hierarchy. Then, once should reconsider dominant norms of journalism. Furthermore, the specialists feels “on their place” as they consider their work as a “universe of consolation” to pursue their passion for sport

Abstract:

You could say that the Swedish artist Felix Gmelin in his art uses media to get closer or further away from what we consider to be the reality and also truth. The purpose of this study is to discuss what this means for the intention of his art works. The starting point is my own aesthetic experience of his painting and the installations A Gentleman’s agreement (1996), Farbtest, Die Rothe Fahne II (2003) and Tools and Grammar 2.5 (2007). Each of these works of art consists of different kinds of prefabricated material such as articles, films and documents. These kinds of material are often considered to stand in the way of the aesthetic experience, maybe because they are supposed to be closer to reality and therefore to truth. The thesis of this study is that the truth in art is inscribed in the aesthetic framework of each art piece and also in the technical support it uses. If for example the support consists of an investigative journalist’s documentary research, in Rosalind Krauss’ description, the truth might be found in the authenticity of the documentary material. If the technical support has to do with sampling instead, as in the re-use of existing materials to create new works of art, the truth can probably not be found in the different pieces of material but in the work ofart in itself. It does not matter then if the different pieces of material it consists of is traditionally considered unaesthetic. The conclusion of this study is that Gmelin’s Gentleman’s agreement, Farbtest, Die Rothe Fahne II and Tools and Grammar 2.5 actually discuss what truth is and if there is an aesthetic truth.

Abstract:
The present master's thesis tackles the position of vulgarisms within the system of language as used in texts published in Czech and French weekly opinion magazines. The thesis takes a theoretic and empiric approach, the first part dealing with the definition of the term of vulgarism in Czech and French stylistics and the delimitation of its role in the style of journalistic texts. The second part of the thesis describes the practical approach of Czech and French weeklies to vulgarisms in their texts based on a survey among editing staff of the major publishing houses both in France and in the Czech Republic. The outcomes of the survey were compared to the analysis results conveyed on a corpus built out of texts published in Le Point and Respekt weeklies. Based on the contrastive analysis of vulgarisms used in Czech and French language corpus, following the critical criteria as outlined in the first part of the thesis, several recommendations are made about French-Czech translations of vulgarisms in journalistic texts. Abstract:
AbstractDisinformation poses a significant challenge to epistemic rights globally, but the phenomenon manifests differently and is promoted by different actors in different countries and regions. The capture of legacy journalistic outlets and the creation of journalism-like sites without journalistic principles and ethics by commercial and political actors have resulted in the significant erosion of epistemic rights in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). Based on three mapping projects created by the Media and Journalism Research Centre, formerly the Centre for Media, Data and Society, at Central European University, this chapter showcases shifts in economic and political conditions of epistemic rights in CEE by focusing on entities that violate epistemic rights by deliberately promoting disinformation in the region.

Abstract:
AbstractThis chapter deals with the analysis of Julian Assange as a public figure through the use of three perspective angles. In the first part, Assange’ history is briefly outlined, tracing it back to the systems of thought of authors such as Norbert Elias and Pierre Bourdieu, with the aim of highlighting how the Australian journalist’s biography helps to illuminate his (and our) historical time and, vice versa, how historical time helps to depict his biography and his courageous journalistic campaigns more precisely. The second part shows how the apparently subversive aspects of Assange’s activity in fact need to be analysed within the web of social control and the subsequent fight between rulers and outsiders. The criminalisation of Julian Assange is, by this token, a consequence of the reaction enacted by power against militant practice aimed at claiming an alternative use of the web. The third paragraph examines three basic principles of Enlightenment which are apparent in the WikiLeaks approach and explicitly recalled by Assange: the connection between the duty to improve knowledge and the right to communicate, publicity as a test to reveal injustice and the understanding of freedom of the press as an antitotalitarian device.

Abstract:
AbstractMédecins Sans Frontières (MSF), or Doctors without Borders, was started by a few doctors and journalists in the 1970s. Today, MSF is a humanitarian actor to be reckoned with, with its emergency medicine expertise and its unique interpretation of the neutrality and independence principles. The organization has acted unconventionally in numerous humanitarian crises and criticized peer organizations in the sector. This nonconformity has never harmed MSF; the organization is highly respected by the general public. This chapter analyzes how MSF as a principled provocateur could evolve into a public guardian of humanitarian values. We posit that MSF’s controversial acts have become an integral part of its reputation; it is expected to go against the grain. However, in order to be credible, the organization works hard to uphold its ‘volunteer and humanitarian spirit’ and strives to be an effective and professional organization.

Abstract:
In 2014, Republic of Serbia was hit by severe flooding causing death to fifty-seven civilians, evacuation of 31,879, and the damage greater then 1.7 billion euros. It has been determined that during these floods significant number of journalists and media hasn't been reporting accordingly to the ethical working principle in the crises. Main misuse and the breach of ethics was done towards the children and the minors whose faces weren't pixelated. Analyzing media work in Serbia it has been ascertained that journalist need additional education and training in the field of crises reporting, due to a high possibility of these crises repetition (floods, fires, earthquakes, migrant and any other disasters) in the territory of the Republic of Serbia. The piece brings out research that analyses relationship and interest of the journalist students- journalist to be for different e-education and e-trainings on the crises situation subject. We have examined whether respondents, which count 50 ( IV year journalist students at the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad), are interested to use Moodle in the their education, digital platforms, also Skype as a form of lecturing attendance. Would they prefer e-education and e-training in their training of the crises situation, what kind of e-training, which social media would be most valuable during the crises, and are they familiar enough with English language to participate in the e-training. The main focus of this research is to determine whether the future journalist generations are capable to be educated by this new digital technology forms. Students were attending traditional courses and training in this media reporting in crises situation classes, but in Serbia until now there hasn't been many courses that includes e-education and e-training. By establishing this new elements of education not only great savings would be benefited, but also faster and productive training of the students in media work in the crises situations field.

Abstract:
The paper dwells on Latvian terminology of the 21st century. It is coined mostly on the basis of English counterparts. There are many sources of this new terminology: Latvian branch and domain experts, professional EU institutions’ Brussels and Luxembourg based translators and terminologists, professional Latvia based translators and terminologists. But numerous terms are coined by random translators, journalists, media representatives, tradespeople, e. g. small shop owners, car dealers, etc. Finally, numerous new nonce terms are coined on the spur of the moment by interpreters, some of which are picked up by their audience and thus gain currency. This leads to a very chaotic terminology scene: often one English term has many established Latvian counterparts (available in official databases), while some terms have none and the English term is used in a grammatically changed or even unchanged form. Still other terms have ‘established’ Latvian counterparts in the shape of overextended definitions. These terms often breach basic principles of term-formation and contribute to terminological chaos, ambiguity and legal uncertainty. It also makes the work of lexicographers most complicated: dictionaries and databases could standardize terminology, but the descriptive approach to lexicography presumes reflecting lexis that is being used. A ray of hope can be seen in a gradual acceptance of metaphorical terminology.

Abstract:
The fact that progressive theologians and Marxist-humanist sociologists of religion had publicly displayed a significant level of mutual understanding and reached notably similar conclusions regarding Church-state relations by the early 1990s cannot obfuscate the controversies within the sphere of societal life in Yugoslavia that remained least affected by the principles of socialist self-management democracy. On the surface, the relationship between the Catholic Church and the state authorities in Slovenia, the northernmost and predominantly Catholic republic of Yugoslavia, appeared fairly peaceful and cooperative throughout the late socialist period. Furthermore, as this paper illustrates, Slovenian religious policy was proposed as a sophisticated model for the inclusive life of believers in a modern socialist society and presented to Vatican diplomats, international experts, and foreign journalists. Nonetheless, during that period, the more independent intellectuals, Catholic and Marxist alike, who warned that the Slovenian Catholic Church was departing from the course of the Second Vatican Council and that the Communist Party should abandon its orthodox Marxist-Leninist understanding of religion to foster genuine dialogue, were marginalised. Instead, there were lengthy debates focusing on whether certain social activities of the Catholic Church encroached on the domain designated for initiatives of the League of Communists and the Socialist Alliance of Working People. With a mounting crisis and increasing public pressure, some public religious manifestations were allowed in the second half of the 1980s, but the fundamental problems remained unaddressed. Although the liberalization of public discourse in Yugoslavia’s final years brought to the fore issues such as freedom of religion and freedom from religion ‒ both of which were integral to the contested programme of the ruling Communist Party and the type of socialist secular society the Slovenian reformed Communists sought to establish ‒, there was not enough time to rework the entrenched religious policy that had alienated many religious citizens.

Abstract:
This paper presents the stages of preparation of the C4D software user manual. This software has been developed by PhDsoft and is intended to be used in connection with complex tasks such as the management of the integrity of the structures of offshore platforms, FPSOs and vessels, by providing repair and maintenance services such as sizing and placing of anodes, assessment of paint deterioration, among others. Oil companies tend to be huge in size and number of employees with different skills, psychological and behavior profiles. Considering that the software also serves as an interface with service providers, many other professionals were added, thereby greatly increasing this diversity. Therefore, meeting the needs of such heterogeneous expectations is the challenge faced by the author of the user manual. The purpose of the software manual is to facilitate the transfer of information and knowledge so as to develop the user’s skills and competencies. Since the software is an engineering tool, it is not enough to present the directions and the steps of the software’s specific tasks and procedures. It is necessary to provide the users with the technical principles used in the software functions. The manual must also be integrated to the company’s strategy by adding value to the product so as to be perceived by the stakeholders as a strong aspect as regards the competitors, being also an effective instrument for establishing closer ties. This paper presents the experience of using a journalist to draft an essentially technical text, in an attempt to unite the attractiveness of the text to the accuracy necessary for its effective use, by following the best practices recommended for documentation and establishing metrics to check the efficacy of same, especially in accordance with norm IEE 1063 — Standard for Software User Documentation.

Rudyk, Myroslava. JOURNALISM STANDARDS AND BLOGGING: PROFESSIONAL PRINCIPLES OF WORKING WITH INFORMATION IN THE BLOGOSPHERE. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, February 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2022.51.11398.

Full text
Abstract:
The article is devoted to the study of journalistic standards in the blogosphere, i.e. the extent to which bloggers adhere to professional principles in their work with information. The popularity of the blogosphere has spread not only to journalists but also to influential people, as well as amateur bloggers, who have created their own platforms to distribute useful or entertaining content. However, not all bloggers work on a professional basis, which creates many opportunities to spread misinformation and manipulate consciousness. Standard approaches to working with information, which have historically been developed in journalism, help to avoid hassles, create professional principles, which ultimately distinguishes journalism from amateur media. In total, researchers distinguish 6 standards of journalism: accuracy, promptness, reliability, completeness of information, the balance of opinions, separation of facts from comments. In the modern world, the approach to defining the concept of “media” has changed significantly. At one time, only professional communicators and traditional media could apply for this status. However, with the development of democratic processes, pluralism of opinion, mass internetization, globalization, and the spread of information beyond the borders of a particular country or locality, alternative sources of information began to appear. Domestic processes of media privatization and oligarchization also contributed to this, when the media became not only repeaters of information, but also a component of the media business and big politics, thus losing the trust of the audience. That is why the popularity of bloggers as independent communicators, opinion leaders, experts in various fields has grown. This was facilitated by the rapid development of information technology, the ability to quickly transmit information of any content, as well as no need for professional training in the field of media. The popularity of the blogosphere is due to the fact that with the new role of a blogger, everyone is given the opportunity to communicate publicly through the use of previously unknown and inaccessible tools. As for professional standards of working with information, bloggers mostly lack the reliability of the information, the balance of opinions and judgments, the separation of facts from comments. And the subjective author’s position is an advantage, giving the blogger an individual way of self-expression.

Abstract:
The article reveals and characterizes the methodological features of teaching the discipline «Intellectual and Psychological Foundations of Mass Media Functioning» on the third year of the Faculty of Journalism at Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. The focus is on the principles, functions, and standards of journalistic creativity during the full-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. As the Russian genocidal, terrorist, and ecocidal war has posed acute challenges to the education and upbringing of student youth. A young person is called not only to acquire knowledge but to receive them simultaneously with comprehensive national, civic, and moral-spiritual upbringing. Teaching and educating students, the future journalists, on Ukrainian-centric, nation-building principles ensure a sense of unity between current socio-political processes and historical past, and open an intellectual window to Ukraine’s future. The teaching of the course ‘Intellectual-Psychological Foundations of Mass Media Functioning’ (lectures and practical classes, creative written assignments) is grounded in the philosophy of national education and upbringing, aimed at shaping a citizen-patriot and a knight, as only such a citizen is capable of selfless service to their own people, heroic struggle for freedom, and the united Ukrainian national state. The article presents student creative works, the aim of which is to develop historical national memory in students, promote the ideals of spiritual unity and integrity of Ukrainian identity, nurture the life-sustaining values of the Ukrainian language and culture, perpetuate the symbols of statehood, and strengthen the moral dignity and greatness of Ukrainian heroism. A methodology for assessing students’ pedagogical-professional competence and the fairness of teachers who deliver lectures and conduct practical classes has been summarized. The survey questions allow students to express their attitudes towards the content, methods, and forms of the educational process, which involves the application of experience from European and American countries, but the main emphasis is on the application of Ukrainian ethnopedagogy. Its defining ideas are democracy, populism, and patriotism, enriched with a distinct nation-building potential, which instills among students a unique culture of genuine Ukrainian history, the Ukrainian language and literature, national culture, and high journalistic professionalism. The search for meaning has been debated for centuries by orators, philosophers, psychologists, writers, sociologists, historians, journalists, and so on. In addition to other factors, a combination of the principles of worldview journalism and conceptual humanitarianism gives effective results. The author explores the acute problem of the effectiveness of a journalistic text through the prism of knowing the truth, meaning, since this is precisely where the source of wisdom is found; we are talking about spirituality, culture, historical memory. As influental authors proved with their arguments, the collection of facts is not enough, it is important to find the meaning of the existence of the individual, communities, and humanity. A number of examples show how the speakers of worldview journalism use all texts, not only from the archives: we are talking about poetry, art, in general, about literature, which revealed the most truth. Figuratively speaking, it is not only about the world of borders, it is important to consider horizons. Turning information into a commodity, focusing on “seasonal” interest based on the materialism of facts, or the inadequacy of many concepts and categories, the faking of media, relativity, obscurity of texts, anti-culture, in other words, the revolution of nihilism inevitably relativizes the very essence of journalism. If creative life is a manifestation of the freedom of the spirit, based on authentic truth, then we should strive to achieve the “extension of vision”, to master combinatorial (combinative) thinking. The ability to think in this way differs from ordinary logic in which the main universal thing remains in the center of attention, and the personality is not lost in individual details. Consequently, we can build a genealogy of ordered things and concepts, feel their inner relationship. Key words: meaning, worldview, journalism, argument, influence, moral principles, creativity.

Melnyk, Olesia. MEDIA DISCOURSE AROUND THE FIGURE OF ORIANA FALLACHI AND HER JOURNALISM DURING 2017–2020. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, March 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2021.50.11114.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the media discourse around the figure of Oriana Fallachi and her journalistic work during 2017-2020. The actual media image of the figure of Fallachi is highlighted, examples of positive and negative statements are given. It is substantiated why her journalism should be researched in various ways, taking into account other aspects of her work that are not related to Islamophobia. The subject of the study is critical texts in modern foreign media dedicated to the author’s work. The objective of the study is to outline the media discourse around the figure of Oriana Fallaci and her journalism during 2017-2020. The methodology. The following methods have been used in the process of scientific research: historical, comparative, systems analysis, content synthesis, and others. The main results. In total, we have analyzed eight materials in foreign publications, published over the past 3 years, as well as the two most famous biographies of Oriana Fallaci. Some of the most recent reviewed texts have been published in the last few months, reflecting the interest in the author’s journalism, her writing, and reporting. Therefore, we see the need for further tracking and analysis of this body of texts. Conclusions. Critics of Fallaci express polar views that are not all negative. Authors recommend quite cautiously her texts for reading, emphasizing their positive aspects. Both Fallaci’s biographies are also not entirely complementary: some aspects of her work are glorified, others are condemned. We managed to find general tendencies in the criticism of Oriana Fallaci’s journalism. These include accusations of xenophobia and Islamophobia, uncompromisingness, lack of political correctness, and moral value. The authors emphasize, at the same time, the openness and directness that bribe the reader, patriotism and honesty, strength of spirit and firmness of position. Significance of the research. The analysis of the latest criticism reveals what kind of media image Fallachi’s figure has today, and gives the possibility to research it for demonization and one-sided coverage. This is important not only for thorough research of the author’s work but also for understanding how the modern world perceives journalism, which is contrary to the generally accepted principles of political correctness, journalistic ethics, and humanity.

Yatsymirska, Mariya. SOCIAL EXPRESSION IN MULTIMEDIA TEXTS. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, February 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2021.49.11072.

Full text
Abstract:
The article investigates functional techniques of extralinguistic expression in multimedia texts; the effectiveness of figurative expressions as a reaction to modern events in Ukraine and their influence on the formation of public opinion is shown. Publications of journalists, broadcasts of media resonators, experts, public figures, politicians, readers are analyzed. The language of the media plays a key role in shaping the worldview of the young political elite in the first place. The essence of each statement is a focused thought that reacts to events in the world or in one’s own country. The most popular platform for mass information and social interaction is, first of all, network journalism, which is characterized by mobility and unlimited time and space. Authors have complete freedom to express their views in direct language, including their own word formation. Phonetic, lexical, phraseological and stylistic means of speech create expression of the text. A figurative word, a good aphorism or proverb, a paraphrased expression, etc. enhance the effectiveness of a multimedia text. This is especially important for headlines that simultaneously inform and influence the views of millions of readers. Given the wide range of issues raised by the Internet as a medium, research in this area is interdisciplinary. The science of information, combining language and social communication, is at the forefront of global interactions. The Internet is an effective source of knowledge and a forum for free thought. Nonlinear texts (hypertexts) – «branching texts or texts that perform actions on request», multimedia texts change the principles of information collection, storage and dissemination, involving billions of readers in the discussion of global issues. Mastering the word is not an easy task if the author of the publication is not well-read, is not deep in the topic, does not know the psychology of the audience for which he writes. Therefore, the study of media broadcasting is an important component of the professional training of future journalists. The functions of the language of the media require the authors to make the right statements and convincing arguments in the text. Journalism education is not only knowledge of imperative and dispositive norms, but also apodictic ones. In practice, this means that there are rules in media creativity that are based on logical necessity. Apodicticity is the first sign of impressive language on the platform of print or electronic media. Social expression is a combination of creative abilities and linguistic competencies that a journalist realizes in his activity. Creative self-expression is realized in a set of many important factors in the media: the choice of topic, convincing arguments, logical presentation of ideas and deep philological education. Linguistic art, in contrast to painting, music, sculpture, accumulates all visual, auditory, tactile and empathic sensations in a universal sign – the word. The choice of the word for the reproduction of sensory and semantic meanings, its competent use in the appropriate context distinguishes the journalist-intellectual from other participants in forums, round tables, analytical or entertainment programs. Expressive speech in the media is a product of the intellect (ability to think) of all those who write on socio-political or economic topics. In the same plane with him – intelligence (awareness, prudence), the first sign of which (according to Ivan Ogienko) is a good knowledge of the language. Intellectual language is an important means of organizing a journalistic text. It, on the one hand, logically conveys the author’s thoughts, and on the other – encourages the reader to reflect and comprehend what is read. The richness of language is accumulated through continuous self-education and interesting communication. Studies of social expression as an important factor influencing the formation of public consciousness should open up new facets of rational and emotional media broadcasting; to trace physical and psychological reactions to communicative mimicry in the media. Speech mimicry as one of the methods of disguise is increasingly becoming a dangerous factor in manipulating the media. Mimicry is an unprincipled adaptation to the surrounding social conditions; one of the most famous examples of an animal characterized by mimicry (change of protective color and shape) is a chameleon. In a figurative sense, chameleons are called adaptive journalists. Observations show that mimicry in politics is to some extent a kind of game that, like every game, is always conditional and artificial.

Abstract:
The literature review collected and systematized existing knowledge and experience of effective communication in media outlets about traumatic events with people, guided by the principle of “do no harm”. The essence of this efficiency is that journalists, communicating with respondents, in particular military and civilian, did not injure the heroes of their journalistic materials and the audience. It is also about avoiding stigmatization and re-traumatization during media coverage of traumatic events. The high prevalence and profound effects of PTSD among civilians and journalists in conflict zones alike underscore the need for a conscious approach to the subject and trauma-related events by media outlets. Research has shown, however, that increased and improved knowledge about mental health plays a crucial role in its de-stigmatization. Despite the negative consequences of the influence, the media have the potential to develop appropriate professional recommendations for overcoming the trauma of war based on the experience of covering war events in Ukraine. Key words: communication, traumatic event, re-traumatization, de-stigmatization, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), media coverage.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the peculiarities of coverage of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in the online-versions of leading Spanish print media. While studying the materials published in the “Opinión” section on the websites of such Spanish newspapers as La Razón, 20 minutos, El Periódico, El País, El Diario, El Correo, El Mundo, ABC and La Vanguardia from February to October 2022, the main attention was paid to narratives, which are related to the war in Ukraine and which are shaping public opinion about it in Spanish society. The methods used in the article include content analysys, comparative analysis and generalization. The publications were selected by searching the keywords “Ucrania”, and phrases “La Guerra en Ucrania”, “La Guerra en Europa” in the column “Opinión”. By using the methods of comparative analysys and generalization we outlined the main narratives and general trends of coverage of the full-scale war in Ukraine in Spanish newspapers. Conclusions of the research: almostly in all newspapers there is the presence of double standards when neutral, pro-Ukrainian and pro-Russian narratives intersect with each other. We found out that combination of these narratives sometimes can be traced not only in a certain edition, but also in a single journalistic text. The research is relevant because the war in Ukraine is still going on. War, which is not only on the battlefield, but also in the information front still continuing. So, it’s important to know which media are spreading pro-russian narratives and which media conversely are supporting Ukraine. The study could help Ukrainian government to understand the features of these narratives and to form the main principles of international information policy in order to resist the pro-russian ideas in the world press.
