Abstract:
Media convergence has ushered in salient modifications to the functions and operation of journalists, and the journalism profession at large. Although media convergence is, to a large extent, beneficial to media organizations and their users, it challenges the operations of journalist and their functions. The history of media evolution has constantly shown that the introduction of new technology into the media landscape does not signal an end to the prevailing journalistic practices, rather it fosters the evolution and adaptation of the existing media while contributing to the development of the successor. The research utilized the qualitative research method and made use of the explorative approach, with secondary data, to ascertain the issues and challenges confronting journalism practice in Nigeria in the age of media convergence. Findings revealed time pressure, professional competencies, the question of quality, internal competition, the rise of user-created content, poor remuneration and the welfare of the Journalist as major convergence challenges facing journalism in Nigeria. The paper, therefore, concluded that technology has come to merge the different roles of the journalist and media institutions to create multimedia outlets for news gathering, processing and dissemination. Hence, the need for journalists to be versatile in their operations, adhere to the journalistic code of ethics and professional conduct and be properly motivated by their employers to drive optimal performance.

The scientific aspect of A. Nurshaykov's journalistic activity, which had a large impact on public opinion and played an essential role in the development of humanistic concepts, is discussed. The study's goal is to describe the author's concept in journalistic works based on personal experience, perspectives, feelings, analysis and evaluation. The primary focus of the research is the author's publicistic works, which contain the author's thoughts and opinions. The author's perspectives and approaches to public and societal issues are taken into account in the journalist's profession. The author's notion will be acknowledged in philosophical, social, cultural, personal, and other aspects depending on the work's subject and genre. The study examines theoretical and empirical methodologies, as well as contextually analyzing essential characteristics of authorship that contribute to the integrity and uniqueness of a journalist's work and determine individual style. This helps readers comprehend the concept of authorship in a journalist's work. The paper investigates the journalistic laboratory he worked in for nearly two decades and analyzes his perspectives on the concept of journalist. A writer-journalist's viewpoint based on life experience is critical for developing journalists' professionalism and competency. The study's relevance and innovation stem from the development of contextual analyses that connect the author's subjectivity in journalism with the stylistic-genre, creative, and poetic characteristics of A. Nurshaykov's works. The article's value is additionally boosted by providing theoretical explanations of features of authorial subjectivity of international and domestic journalists, including the role of journalistic texts in content production and their influence on reader perception.

Abstract:
The article discusses an important part of the professional culture of a journalist – legal culture, which is based on knowledge of legal norms and journalists’ attitude to the law, manifested in their lawful behavior and, in general, in the activities of modern Russian mass media. As part of the research project of the Department of Theory of Journalism and Mass Communications at St. Petersburg State University, Professional Ideology of Journalism, a pilot study of the normative-legal discourse of journalists’ professional culture was conducted. The empirical basis for the study was expert interviews with representatives of print media who have extensive experience in journalism, including the position of editor-in-chief. The purpose of the research is to reveal how sectoral legislation determines the content of journalists’ activities; how journalists feel about the Russian On the Mass Media law and the normative regulation of media activities in general; and, ultimately, how journalistic activities embody the three structural components of a journalist’s legal culture: 1) cognitive; 2) motivational-refl exive and 3) activity-practical. The results of the processing of expert interviews show that, in general, journalists have a respectful attitude toward industry-specifi c legislation and consider the current law On Mass Media to be a basic document regulating freedom of expression and many other issues of media activity. Although the freedom of speech, which was enshrined in the Russian law on mass media and later in the Constitution of the Russian Federation, has not become a tradition, a norm of life, creativity and professional culture of journalists. Abstract:
AbstractThis report presents a portrait of contemporary liberal Chinese journalists. Compared with the national average ten years ago, a typical journalist in Guangzhou is younger, better-educated and more likely to be female, and less likely to be a Communist Party member. The survey shows that the literati value coexists with both the modern professional and Party journalism value during the current journalistic professionalization. Such coexistence results in a complexity in journalists' attitude and behaviour. Journalists tend to be inactively liberal: possessing liberal attitudes but not engaging themselves in action. The survey also reports evidence on the contingency of journalistic behaviour logic. Professional logic shows its popularity when journalists encounter conflicts involving legal, economic and political concerns, but not in cases involving moral or cultural conflicts. Neither professional nor commercial logic is strong enough to oppose political logic when journalists are handling severe political issues.

Ethics in Journalism as a Basis for the Journalistic Profession Ethically tense situations which include a conflict of values or various natures or principles commonly appear in the media, as well as within the journalistic profession. In such cases it is very difficult to find ideal solutions. The role of the journalist is to seek solutions that are in the spirit of truth, objectivity, impartiality and at the same time provide a public service. Journalists must act socially responsibly on a whole range of issues, but also remain loyal to their employers. In this context, it is necessary to distinguish between the ethics of journalists of the public service and those of the tabloid media.

Abstract:
Although it looks like a mainly peacetime, journalism seems to be on the front lines of a war, struggling to survive in the new communication environment. Journalists work in a strongly polarized political and media scene, which obscures the basic principles of the profession. While losing its ideological concept, the profession is on a socio-economic seesaw: for journalists it is precarious profession, and for editors and top menagement it strives to be an elite comfort zone. There are frequent calls on journalists to get out of the grip of media conglomerates and start doing business as entrepreneurs, although such an attitude often seems utopian. The aim of the paper is to critically analyse the role of the journalist in the new environment. The author will try to define how the role of the journalists has been redefined in the new media, social and political environment, trying to determine how these changes have affected the basic principles of the journalist's profession. The article is based on conceptual analysis of the role of journalists and principles of journalism, following these three issues/segments: in the first part, the paper will discuss on the role of the journalist through the concept of a new social stratification; in the following segment, the author will try to analyze new shape of journalism through the business model of entrepreneur journalism. In the last part, the analysis will be based on the discussion of the conceptual framework of the occupational ideology of journalism, from watchdog to opiniondog role.

Abstract:
Integration and efforts to include women journalists are increasing as a result of advocating for a more inclusive media, including in sports desk. However sports journalist broadcasters are limited, as seen from the way women athletes are covered at various levels, the representation of athletes who get the spotlight as well as the focus on sports industry issues that get coverage priority. This literature review uses the scoping literature review method - a literature discussion on women sports journalists - and Bourdieu's framework to understand sports journalism as doxa and its influence on women journalists and other women workers in sports journalism. Experiences and decision making of women journalists were analyzed with the perspective of Gender Psychology based on previous researches from Journalism, Communication, Sports and Media Studies. The literature analysis resulted in a mapping of the various issues faced by women sports journalists, as well as describing the dynamics and identity negotiations that were experienced. The existence of women sports journalists influences the way sports desk works, the issues and focus of their work, their writing styles, and their strategies in the workplace and sports media as institutions. Women sports journalists create a space to work through their daily lives.

Abstract:
The article examines some elements of the objective side of the composition of the criminal offense provided for in Part 1 of Art. 171 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which describes the obstruction of the legitimate professional activity of journalists. Three forms of obstruction of journalistic activity were considered: 1) intentional obstruction of the legitimate professional activity of journalists, including in one of the ways described in the criminal law (Part 1 of Article 171 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine); 2) influencing a journalist to prevent him from fulfilling his professional duties (part 2 of Article 171 of Ukraine); 3) persecution of a journalist in connection with his legitimate professional activity (Part 2 of Article 171 of Ukraine). It is emphasized that the objective side of the investigated criminal offense consists of socially dangerous actions (actions or inactions), which limit the possibility or even make it impossible for journalists to fulfill their professional. Three main methods of criminally unlawful obstruction of a journalist’s activity, which is prescribed in Part 1 of Art. 171 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, are considered: 1) illegal seizure of materials and technical means collected, processed, and prepared by a journalist, which the journalist uses in connection with his professional activity; 2) illegal denial of journalist’s access to information; 3) illegal prohibition of coverage of certain topics, showing of certain persons, criticism of the subject of authority. It is emphasized that the current criminal law enshrines a wide list of actions that can be considered obstruction, taking into account the wording “any other intentional obstruction.” This makes it possible to cover various practical situations in which obstacles are created for journalists in the performance of their professional duties. The article separately analyzes the normative definitions governing the confiscation of property and the specifics of denial of access to information, as well as examples of judicial practice illustrating the illegal seizure of materials and other restrictions on the professional activities of journalists. Special attention is paid to the interpretation of concepts related to the ban on coverage of certain topics or criticism of subjects of authority; situations, where such prohibitions may manifest themselves in the form of state censorship or other illegal influences, are also described. The author substantiates the need to optimize the norms of the law and exclude unnecessary repetitions, such as the use of the term “illegal”, in order to avoid tautology and improve guidelines for law enforcement. The conclusions emphasize the importance of improving the practice of applying criminal law and the possible directions of such improvement in order to ensure the protection of journalists’ rights and freedom of speech in Ukraine.

Abstract:
Introduction: Datafication still plagues Indonesian journalists, especially local ones, skewing news validity and neutrality. Indonesian journalists from 13 local media were surveyed and interviewed for this study. This study relied on several studies that suggest journalists may deliver more accurate, objective, and unbiased news by expanding their datafication capacity. As digital technology advances and social media spreads misinformation, it becomes critical. Methods: Mixed-methods experimentation and triangulation. Indonesia has 13 native media representing its diversity. Using regional media, this study can illustrate data journalism literacy levels in different locations, including those with differing technology and education. We chose material based on data journalism approaches including data visualization, infographics, and data-driven reporting. This ensures study-relevant respondents. Findings: Indonesian media's poor data literacy has a big impact. Data-driven journalism in local media is poor due to data analysis incompetence. Access and chances for journalists to develop data skills are major issues. Clearly, formal training is needed. Another factor is local media's focus on reporting speed over data analysis. Lack of technology and institutional support hinders local journalist data literacy projects. Originality: Previous studies on Indonesian journalists' datafication knowledge and abilities are scarce and fragmented. Despite data journalism's growing popularity in newsrooms and academic status, comprehensive study is needed to define it.

Abstract:
The rise of citizen journalism has transformed the media landscape, posing significant challenges to traditional news objectivity. This study aims to investigate the impact of citizen journalism on news objectivity by exploring issues, challenges, and potential solutions. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the research combines qualitative content analysis of citizen-generated news reports with quantitative surveys of professional journalists and citizen journalists. The data collection involved analyzing a sample of news stories from various online platforms and conducting interviews with key stakeholders. Results reveal that while citizen journalism democratizes information dissemination, it often struggles with issues of accuracy and bias, leading to concerns about objectivity. Challenges include the lack of formal training, editorial oversight, and the influence of personal or ideological agendas. However, the study also identifies potential solutions such as promoting media literacy, encouraging collaboration between professional and citizen journalists, and implementing fact-checking mechanisms. In conclusion, while citizen journalism contributes valuable perspectives and diversity to news reporting, addressing its challenges is crucial for maintaining journalistic standards. Ensuring objectivity in this evolving media environment requires a collaborative approach and the integration of rigorous verification processes.

Abstract:
In 2014, President Barack Obama made history by only calling upon women journalists during a domestic news conference with the White House press corps. To capitalize on and examine this critical first in journalism, this study analyzed the potential influence of a journalist’s gender in White House press corps news conferences with President Obama a year before and a year after the all-female conference. The content analysis examined what political issues journalists emphasized in presidential news conferences and whether these issue emphases varied (a) by journalists’ gender and (b) before and after the all-female conference. Results revealed that, to some extent, men and women emphasized different issues. Furthermore, there were marked shifts after the all-female conference. First, women were called upon more often. Second, women emphasized several issues more than men. In particular, women became predominant on questions dealing with so-called ‘masculine’ or ‘hard news’ issues, for example, macroeconomics and foreign trade. This work suggests that gender, in all of its permutations – be it the journalist’s gender, the gendering of issues, or the gendering of occupational spaces – matters and may affect journalists’ lines of questioning.

Abstract:
Independent journalism on social media networks appears to be changing the world of journalism. Building on Bourdieu’s field theory, the present study looked at journalists’ perceptions of values expressed in their online activities as compared to traditional news values. In-depth interviews were conducted with leading journalists active on traditional and online platforms in Israel in order to better understand journalists’ perceptions of the journalistic culture on the two kinds of platforms. The study found that by strongly emphasizing autonomy, online platforms empower journalists to embrace new values, including public service and immediacy. A public service ideology has expanded into online efforts to actively promote diverse issues that are not necessarily covered by traditional media. Immediacy is now dictated by the features of social media, which force journalists to respond in real time to all events relevant to their cause. Two values in the model of journalistic culture were found to be incompatible with the features of journalists’ online operations, and the ethics and objectivity of traditional journalism have been completely replaced by the online journalists’ orientation towards promoting their personal opinions, ideologies and agendas.

The study is dependence of self-censorship, especially in authoritarian regimes. The crucial role that journalism plays in influencing public opinion and its consequences for democratic processes are also covered in this essay. It also draws attention to the difficulties that journalists encounter in politically delicate situations, such as censorship, physical threats, and legal constraints. The results highlight the necessity for journalistic independence and integrity to support democratic processes, as well as the dual role that media plays as a safeguard for democracy and a possible conduit for political influence. The study highlights the role that independent journalism plays in defending democratic norms in Nepal and notes the challenges that journalists confront in upholding impartiality and moral standards in the face of political polarization.

A narrative analysis was conducted of news media coverage of the Academy Award-winning movie Spotlight from January 1, 2015, until June 1, 2016, with a focus on how journalists, film critics, and commentators invoked the history of investigative reporting—and of investigative reporting on film—in evaluating Spotlight and the significance of the journalism-related issues it raised. Even as the narrative asks the reader to revisit the “heroic journalist” myth, its elements mitigate against endorsement: the field’s financial distress, the focus on “grunt work,” the desire of the film’s creators to honor journalism’s past, the impression that journalists had been cordoned off somewhere until the film reintroduced us to them, and the Spotlight team begrudgingly accepting Hollywood’s demands—even the repeated comparisons to All the President’s Men—coalesce to negate the film’s potential to remind us of the need for aggressive, uncompromising investigative reporting and to affirm the myth of the dogged investigative journalist.

This paper tackles theoretical and methodological issues of a comparative research in three countries of different journalistic cultures (UK, Sweden and Greece) that contributes to an explanation of news judgement, called 'journalistic gut feeling' by journalists, as implemented in varying social contexts. A thesis of this investigation is that the combined consideration of the theoretical domains of news values, news practice and journalistic professionalism is required so that an adequate explanation of the dynamics of news evaluation is produced. The theoretical approach adopted is Bourdieu’s 'field' perspective as applied in journalism research by Benson, while the methodological one is a comparative, mixed methods design that pays attention to contextual factors, drawing on suggestions by Bryman, Hantrais and Hanitzsch. The methods applied are a questionnaire survey of journalists and focus groups simulating editorial meetings.

Abstract:
A journalistic paradigm defines what journalism is, and what journalists should do, in relation to reporting news. Drawing from desk research and in-depth interviews with eighteen data journalists and experts in the United Kingdom, this article discusses the recent development and practices of data journalism in the United Kingdom and their implications for the journalistic paradigm, which involves the substantial use of interviewing. Embracing the opportunities provided by the datafication of society and the British government's open data initiative, UK news organizations have institutionalized and incorporated data journalism into their organizational structure. However, difficulties in practice have emerged, resulting from new, mostly ethically grounded issues surrounding data. Traditional journalistic practices, in particular interviewing and cross-checking, provide a useful, practical guide to solving related problems. The institutionalization of data journalism, as well as traditional journalistic methods and skills coming as a solution, assimilate data journalism into conventional journalistic practices, reinforcing – rather than undermining – the journalistic paradigm.

Abstract:
This exploratory and analytical research examines secondary sources to propose a résumé of professional roles for journalists to revitalize their roles within social and political coexistence. It aims to bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and practical applications, enhancing journalists’ impact on public discourse and informed decision-making. Empirical research will guide these roles’ implementation in real-world journalistic practices. Twelve explanatory and constructive journalistic roles are formulated, whose relevance and application are enhanced in societies undergoing crisis situations or serious difficulties and are at risk of rupture in coexistence. In conclusion, the role of journalists in the current circumstances of crises in democratic societies requires them to not only report on events but also provide context, analysis, and solutions to the complex issues faced by society. Journalistic functions such as contextualization, public interest promotion, dialogue, and motivation are considered fundamental beyond constructive journalism or solutions journalism.

The study aimed to explore TV News Journalists’ perspectives regarding freedom of expression and social responsibility in Pakistan and how these journalists practice it in their profession. Moreover, factors influencing these practices were also inquired. Employing an exploratory research design, 10 semi-structured interviews with TV News Journalists were conducted. Thematic analysis of interviews revealed that TV News Journalists are well aware of the role of freedom of expression and social responsibility in coverage of socio-political issues. In the present situation, they are unable to practice journalism with responsibility as News Channels compete with TRP and Breaking News. Authentication of news suffers in this context. Journalists are unable to practice their freedom of expression and social responsibility as they cannot go against organizational policies. It seems as if they are doing jobs only without fulfilling their journalistic responsibilities in true spirit. They face certain pressures while covering socio-political issues. These pressures are organizational policies, political parties, religious groups, personal political and religious affiliations and the financial status of Journalists. Government and state institutions also try to influence the freedom of expression and social responsibility of media. Resultantly the objectivity of News content gets compromised. The development of investigative journalism exposes various irregularities or hidden issues covered up by state officials or authorities entrusted with the responsibility to manage and control various resources for the public's benefit. Additionally, investigative journalism is a methodological discipline, requiring opportunities to be understood and mastered. Thus, aspiring journalists need intelligence and agility to examine, research, and deconstruct journalistic knowledge to reveal hidden cases, prepared to face resistance, challenges, and threats. The purpose of this investigative journalism training for prospective journalists is to enable students to fully understand investigative reporting, which demands mental resilience and courage to disclose cases deliberately concealed. The benefit of this activity is to inspire students, as future journalists, to engage critically and insightfully with information evolving across various channels. As aspiring journalists, critical thinking is essential in addressing rumors, emerging public issues, and a skeptical stance toward information disseminated by certain parties, emphasizing the need for thorough verification. The direction and objective of this training for prospective journalists are to foster understanding and the ability to think critically in investigating and researching events or cases suspected of irregularities. This training employs lecture and discussion methods. The outcomes for aspiring journalists are to inspire, motivate, and express their investigative journalism work, serving as a medium to report events or cases suspected of anomalies to the public. Consequently, media users can better understand news or rumors constructed by aspiring journalists, which is then widely disseminated to the public.

Abstract:
Despite the widespread concepts of “civic journalism”, “social journalism”, “community-centered journalism”, “citizens journalism”, social projects implemented by the local media remain insufficiently studied. Journalists initiate and organize public discussions on hot issues, defend the rights of low-income families and World War II veterans, raise money for operations. The current research conducted at the School of Journalism at Lomonosov Moscow State University examined the phenomenon of journalists’ participation in solving social issues of local communities. We analyzed the descriptions of 126 social projects by local media and 25 questionnaires. The article discusses the factors that influence decision-making on the implementation of social projects. The authors present the themes, aims of social projects, and 15 types of initiation of social projects, give examples of constructive and nonconstructive relations between journalists and representatives of authorities, business, NGOs in initiation and implementation of social projects. The authors noted that journalists and citizens, to a greater extent than representatives of local authorities, business, NGOs, are initiators of solving social problems and developing the local community. The findings appear to demonstrate that by initiating and realizing social projects, local media are fulfilling the meta-function of the development of civil society. The authors highlight the necessity of supporting journalistic initiatives.

Abstract:
The field of journalism has not been spared from the rapid development of technology. With the development of communication technologies, traditional journalism has been transformed. In the past, news was produced by media and consumed by the masses. However, the advent of drones has led to the emergence of citizen journalism as an alternative source of information in the news gathering process. Considered the «eyes in the air» of journalists, drones are offering new opportunities for both citizen journalists and large media companies. Drones have a great physical advantage in that they can display the area of damage spread in disasters such as fires, earthquakes, floods, the scale of events on battlefields, sporting events and concerts. It also creates conditions for quick access to the journalist's news and informative publication. However, the dangers posed by drone technology in areas such as national security, public health and safety, personal life and public safety, as well as legal and ethical issues, cannot be ignored in addition to expanding the possibilities of journalistic reporting. This article analyzes the new breath and contribution that the use of drones has brought to journalism, as well as its possibilities and limitations

Abstract:
Researchers have extensively documented the issues in quantity and quality of media coverage of the Paralympic Games. The lack of coverage and stereotypical representations can be attributed to a variety of structural and cultural factors, notably including journalistic norms and values. This scholarly commentary proposes a reconsideration of journalistic values in order to argue that sports journalists have a professional responsibility to cover the Paralympics and issues of disability for at least three reasons: (a) The Paralympics are an elite-level, international sporting event and thus merit sport-focused coverage, (b) sport journalists have an ethical obligation to include diverse perspectives in reporting and to challenge stereotypes, and (c) sport is intertwined with social issues and requires contextualized reporting. The commentary concludes with recommendations for sport communication and journalism education.

Abstract:
Every profession needs professional ethics, but some occupations, such as journalism, have special importance and a wide relationship with many people in society, so professional ethics is essential in this case. When the journalists income is at stake, what will their professional ethics be like? The Covid-19 pandemic 2020 is threatening the existence of journalism and the news. Journalists are having a hard time reporting on the pandemic. Between the issue of safety of the journalists, and the implementation of responsibility for reporting, journalists must put ethical issues at the top.
This article analyzes the impact of fake news on the press and the ethical responsibility of journalists when reporting on the Covid-19 epidemic. Ethical behavior and social responsibility of journalists arise in professional journalism. A conflict may occur between professional obligations and basic human impulses of a journalist. They can fight to maintain their sense of fairness, balance, and objectivity. At the same time, they may be asked to lie. Their actions can cause real harm to the public, which in turn causes ethical dilemmas.

Abstract:
What are the ethical obligations of a fashion journalist? We argue fashion journalists have a central role to play in addressing the industry’s most pressing issues, including but not limited to environmental degradation, worker exploitation and social justice. Moreover, we argue fashion journalists are in a unique position to help co-constitute the ‘good life’ as it pertains to our fashionable selves and societies. However, without a clearly articulated ethic of fashion journalism, we cannot hope to have an ethical and responsible fashion industry with which to build such a life. We contend that this must be done not through prioritizing a consumer identity for readership – the default subject position in lifestyle journalism – but through the readership’s subject position as citizen and moral agent. In the broadest critique we offer here, we posit that fashion journalism and journalists have been exempted from the traditional ethical obligation of a press responsible to a public, and we seek to recentre the fashion journalist as a key agent in the work towards a more just and caring society.

Abstract:
Media is one of the platforms for delivering information to an audience. The role of media plays in framing issues is very important when it can impact how an audience thinks. Therefore, this article analyses frame construction by focusing on by-election news. The study using semi-structured interviews with journalists was done to explain how the internal and external factors affecting journalists in the newsroom affected the framing of the by-elections news in Malaysia. The informants for this face-to-face interview are Malaysian media practitioners, print journalists (Utusan Malaysia and Daily News) from different backgrounds, roles, and experiences in political journalism. Three informants from Daily News and three informants from Utusan Malaysia. The interviewer is an experienced journalist who reports on the news of a by-election or general election has been interviewed. The results show that there are internal and external factors that influence journalists in the construction of news frames. However, there is a dominant factor affecting the framing of the by-elections in Malaysia, namely journalist education. Journalist education plays an important role in providing insight into delivering news reports to audiences. Specializing in the field of journalism, it has an impact on news writing as well as brings journalist thinking into the selection of themes, news directions, and resources, although internal organizational factors and external factors influence news production.

Abstract:
In todays world, the social media play an important role in shaping reality. In democratic societies, they also act as a kind of controller of public life. The journalists primary task is to serve society and the state. Journalists have a special duty to act in accordance with professional ethics and the rules of social interaction, in line with the rules prescribed by law.In the performance of their profession, journalists enjoy legal protection designed to ensure that citizens may exercise their constitutional right of access to information and public criticism. However, the right to freedom of expression, including freedom to hold opinions and to receive and impart information and ideas without interference by public authority in accordancewith European standards, is not absolute in nature. An important factor contributing to the freedom of expression and independence of the press, which makes journalism to be perceived as a profession of public trust by the society, is the legal protection of the journalist professional privilege. This article attempts to present the current views of the doctrine and jurisprudence on the adopted principles of protection of the journalist privilege in the Polish legal order, with a particular emphasis put on inadmissibility in evidence arising from the legal standards defined in Article 180 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

Abstract:
This paper points out the importance of a sociological approach to the study of journalism and media. The focus is on the sociological view of the news production process. How do organizational and professional requirements shape and limit journalistic work in news production? Some of the main concepts and interests of the sociological approach are presented, such as gatekeeping, personal characteristics of journalists, social control in newsrooms, relations between journalists and their sources, the issue of journalistic paraideology, and then these issues are discussed in the context of current journalism and media in BiH. The findings of this paper suggest that the meaning of the concept of gatekeeping in light of the dominance of Internet platforms needs to be explored; that we still don’t have a good enough picture of the people who produce the news in BiH; that the issue of social control in newsrooms should be reconsidered in the light of newsroom cutbacks. In addition, research is needed on the nature of the links between journalists and their sources, and the issue of journalistic paraideology in BiH should be examined in the context of reducing the gap between professional journalism and other forms of content production, but also through examination of inherited forms of patriotic journalism.

Abstract:
The Social Journalism Awards (SJA) is a journalism exchange programme providing Papua New Guinean journalists with opportunities to report on development issues. This article draws on information collected from SJA participants, and analysis of the media content they produced, to gather insights into development journalism in Papua New Guinea. The study found that Papua New Guinean journalists are interested in reporting on development issues but they lack appropriate opportunities to do so. The main issues facing Papua New Guinean journalists include few opportunities to report on issues outside the national capital; few professional development or training opportunities; few opportunities to report on development issues, particularly those affecting the rural poor; conflicts of interest for media owners including the government and foreign corporations with mining interests; and low pay within the industry. The study showed that when given appropriate opportunities, PNG journalists can contribute to development and democracy in meaningful ways. The article concludes that it is important for media indices to go beyond procedural freedoms and to measure substantive freedoms, or opportunities, available to journalists.

Abstract:
The paper studies the main aspects of creative work of Oleksandr Kovalevskyi (1890-1940?), a journalist, public and political figure, cooperative movement’s activist. Archival documents, particularly correspondence with Volodymyr Koroliv-Staryi, M.Yeremijiv, V. Pisniachevskyi, A.Nikovskyi revealed numerous facts about his cooperation with periodicals. The author of the article estimates his judgements on journalism, its role and tasks as well as the features of regional press as notably actual. The author analyses the way Kovalevskyi treated periodicals’ content, way of providing discussions in press, and how to illuminate the key issues of the day. The autobiographical component is being prized as the main feature of Kovalevskyi’ publications. His writings on social and political topics were enriched with bygone parallels illustrating his political views’ transformation, his established feelings on certain life conflicts. The past was strongly incorporated into his memory. The author found out that journalistic heritage of Oleksandr Kovalevsky had never been accumulated and analyzed, especially his journalistic skills and features of texts architectonics etc. A complex study of journalist’s activity, especially his talent after observing problems that persecuted the Ukrainians to single out the main one and explainit in details, would help future journalists in forming their professional skills and restoring historical events. Besides, it would assist deep understanding of current social and political processes and upheavals. Keywords: Oleksandr Kovalevskyi, journalism, editor, publicist, Ukrainian press.

Abstract:
The standards and practices in journalism that best serve democratic deliberation remain a matter of intense scrutiny in the digital age. The United States has a long history of journalists exposing self-interested behaviors of political or corporate elites with investigative journalism. With online media, journalistic practices encompass fact-checking against a variety of sources, and countering the claims of other journalists from competing outlets. This article aims at delimiting the rhetorical properties of an emerging genre of YouTube counter-journalism. The study reports on a rhetorical and eristic analysis of the main patterns of countering in a sample of videos posted on YouTube on the subject of the US presidential campaign in spring 2020. The analysis reveals some ways in which YouTube journalists break down the dominant media narratives and present counterclaims and critiques, which is usually accompanied by fact-checking, showcasing evidence and providing alternative explanations or counterarguments. However, counter-journalism is not free from eristic devices that may misrepresent political issues for the subscribers.

Abstract:
FR. Until 2016, journalistic investigations on sexual violence committed by a political figure had never been published in France. With the publication of the“Baupin affair” on May 9, 2016, Mediapart and France Inter inaugurated a new area of investigation. A total of sixteen women testified in the press about sexual harassment and assaults committed by Denis Baupin, then vice-president of the National Assembly and Green Party MP for Paris's 10th constituency. While sexual violence perpetrated by political figures has long been ignored, or even invisibilized by journalists, how did it become a legitimate subject of investigation in political journalism? What “trials” (de Blic and Lemieux, 2005) have women political journalists overcome to incorporate such violence into the concerns of political journalism, to the extent that a press investigation into Denis Baupin could emerge? This article addresses these questions based on a series of semi-structured interviews conducted between 2020 and 2023 with the journalists behind the investigation, as well as those who covered the “Baupin affair”. These interviews enable us to identify the adjustments made, in terms of journalistic culture, between the “DSK affair”and the “Baupin affair”. We begin by outlining the media framings long favored by political journalists with regard to “sexual issues” (Fassin, 2009), before looking at how the experience of violence within a professional space can lead to the constitution of a community. This group, made up of feminist political journalists, circulated a set of discourses that will encourage the renewal of journalistic practices on gender violence and open up new investigative horizons, enabling the emergence of the “Baupin affair” and serving the credibility of media accounts of violence. *** PT. *** ES. Abstract:
Journalists had to deal with varying information from government entities with power in the disaster sector when covering the 2018 Sunda Strait tsunami. Indonesian catastrophe journalism now faces new difficulties as a result of unequal and shifting information. This is especially true when it comes to respecting the rule that information should be presented quickly and accurately in order to mitigate disasters. This study aims to learn more about the journalism practices at KompasTV, CNN Indonesia, MetroTV, and Trans7 in the news production process as well as how journalists select news sources in emergency situations, particularly when a tsunami strikes the Sunda Strait. According to this study's findings, Indonesia's four top mass media outlets place a high value on issues including validating catastrophe information, upholding a journalistic code of ethics, and the skill of journalists covering disasters. Journalists rely on and trust information obtained from government organizations with power over disasters and other mass media. Because it is impossible to ensure the accuracy of the material posted on social media, journalists avoid and do not utilize it.

Abstract:
The rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI) technology has significantly influenced various sectors, including journalism. AI presents opportunities such as automating routine tasks, analyzing complex data, personalizing content, and increasing efficiency in news production. However, it also introduces challenges, particularly concerning news credibility, such as algorithm bias, accuracy issues, loss of human touch, and diminished public trust in automated news. In Indonesia, the adoption of AI in journalism is still in its infancy, with limited regulatory frameworks and insufficient awareness of its implications. This research aims to identify the challenges and opportunities faced by journalists in the AI era and examine the impact of AI on news credibility. Employing an exploratory qualitative method, the research incorporates in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation studies conducted within Indonesian media organizations. The findings reveal that collaboration between AI and journalists can enhance efficiency while maintaining journalistic integrity. However, the research underscores the necessity for adaptive regulations and improved technological literacy among journalists to ensure ethical and productive AI utilization. This research contributes to understanding the interplay between technology and journalistic values, offering valuable insights for media organizations and policymakers to navigate the AI-driven future of journalism.

Abstract:
“Citizen journalism” is a term used to refer to ordinary individuals who act as journalists during some part of the process of creating content for mainstream journalism coverage. In China, besides ordinary citizen journalists, some professional journalists have been regarded as citizen journalists if they write stories online that would otherwise not be publishable in traditional media. Unfortunately, since the real name registration system was launched on the Internet in 2012, the activities of both professionals and average citizens in China are frequently limited. So, is citizen journalism a role that can only be practiced in very limited ways in China? This article adopts a broader definition of citizen journalism, in which, through the use of social media to discuss and comment on news and social issues, ordinary citizens in China act as collective citizen journalists, which insulates them against individually targeted criticism for their opinions. We applied agenda-setting theory to explain citizen journalist contributions to the content of traditional media and the policymaking process in China. Using several forms of Chinese media and rank-order cross-lagged correlations, we found that online public opinions in social media influenced the agenda of traditional commercially oriented media, but not the agenda of traditional government-sponsored media. The policy agenda was partially influenced by the online public. The online public acted collectively to influence and contribute to the content of the traditional media and policies the government considers, thus changing the nature of journalism and public sphere.

Abstract:
This article explores how emotional attachment and a sense of morality often drive journalists to produce great work in areas of conflict, particularly those solo video journalists who produce long format current affairs. But it also questions if a sense of engagement can impede journalist’s ability to report objectively? And how relevant is this ideal today? Former BBC war correspondent Martin Bell changed his view on objectivity after covering the Balkans War. He advocated for a journalism of attachment especially in war zones and amid human suffering. There are some Australian video journalists whose sense of engagement has defined outstanding bodies of work. However, some practices in the field often defy concepts of impartiality. Issues of, if, or when, to put down the camera and give assistance; or how to remain fair and honest to the story while gaining the long term trust of sources, sometimes challenges journalists.

Abstract:
The article substantiates the use of serious games for training in the specialty 061 Journalism. Serious games are viewed as information and communication technologies for training journalists. Well-known serious games of journalistic direction are analyzed. The role of serious games in the courses «Internet Journalism», «Blogging», «International Journalism», «Fact-Checking», «Art Journalism», etc. is determined. The project of a serious game «J-chess» for journalists using the universal modeling language (UML) is described. It identified the benefits of serious games for learning journalists: work the principles of active- and problem-based learning, a pleasant and deep immersion in professional issues and educational topics. Serious games are also a basis for strengthening the interdisciplinary links between mandatory and selective disciplines of journalists’ professional training. The content and principles of serious games contribute to reaching learning outcomes defined in the Higher Education Standard in journalism. It confirmed this by the four-year results of students' surveys. Problematic issues for the practice of serious games in the educational process are shown: digital inequality, availability of video games, lack of integration of serious games with electronic learning systems, students’ readiness to play, the didactic impact of the game, and ethical dilemmas. Emphasis is placed on the need to create methodological aids for serious games, determine their role and place in the discipline’s structure, formulate the principles and algorithms for pedagogical support of serious games. Solving these problems will promote the academic and practical training of future journalists through serious games, intensify the development of serious games, bring together the gaming industry and education. Integrating serious games with online learning will be the basis for trans-media learning. And this will increase the quality of education and the level of satisfaction of graduates and stakeholders.

Abstract:
Solution journalism originates in the «peace journalism» of the 1960s and 1970s and the «public journalism» of the 1990s. At the current stage of development, international experts in the media sphere advise separating journalistic materials from solution journalism according to clear criteria. Solution journalism in Ukraine is a new trend in journalism that arose due to global changes in the communication environment and its direct impact on the role of journalism in the lives of citizens, including Ukrainians, especially during the active development and availability of social networks. There is no universally accepted definition of solution journalism. Most revolve around the idea of linking a description of a problem with an overview of possible or existing solutions. Solution journalism can raise public issues by highlighting local public education issues, but it can also highlight issues on a national scale. Journalists often reach out to audiences to gauge their awareness of an issue or to gather their experiences on how to respond to it. It can make the story more appealing to readers. Solution journalism can also be a good tool for increasing audience engagement, even if only used once or twice, suggesting that it can be–at least in part–a solution to struggling journalism itself. The obvious danger in solutions journalism is not to stop at advocacy and start supporting individuals or organizations. In this article, based on foreign experience, the main criteria for the correspondence of Ukrainian journalistic materials to solutions journalism are analyzed using the comparison method. By monitoring key Ukrainian mass media and analyzing the compliance criteria of publications belonging to solution journalism, a list of recommendations for Ukrainian journalists and students of specialized faculties for creating materials on solution journalism was formed. We see the prospects for further research in forming a clear scientific term, «solutions journalism» in view of both the scientific discourse and the practical experience of journalists. Separately, it is worth paying attention to the presentation of solution journalism materials on various platforms (websites, social networks, messengers) and their visual support in the Ukrainian information space. The effectiveness of solution journalism materials on forming public opinion remains unexplored.
